Running feet. A door slammed shut.

`When will this stop' she thought.

"Mommy"

~Yukimi~

She got used to her cries a long time ago. However, she could always stop her cries by either feeding her, washing her, or just by giving her the love she needed. But nowadays, she couldn't make her stop. Of course, her daughter had grown stronger, but still she came home every two or three days in a state like this. And she simply couldn't do anything, unless she hurt Yukimi more by telling her the truth.

"Mommy!"

"I'm here Yuki, in the kitchen."

Footsteps running to the kitchen.

"Mommy…" a bit whining now, hesitating at the doorstep.

Finally, she stepped inside: her clothes torn, her hand an face stained, her hair a large fuzz of green strings stuck together with whatever goo the other children had thrown to her.

"Oh, sweety. What happened?"

"The other children laughed at my green hair… they think I'm weird. And the big washing lady said it green as a punishment, because I don't have a daddy, like the others… Is that true?"

She looked her daughter in her big, begging eyes, which were filled with tears.

"Honey, you shouldn't listen to the things the other children are saying. Now dry your tears, and let us clean you a bit up."

The rest of the afternoon and the beginning of the evening went by peacefully. With lots of hot water and soap she had bathed her daughter. Then she dried her in a giant towel, and helped her putting on her pyjamas. Now she was playing with her dolls, while her mother cooked dinner and thought some things over.

Was it true? Did Yukimi have green hair because she didn't have a father? No, of course not! That would be ridiculous. The hair was one of the few things he had given her.
Roronoa Zoro.
She didn't mind the fact he had left them; she hadn't even expected him to stay with her from the beginning.
No, she didn't feel sorry for herself, but she did for Yukimi.
