Monkey D. Garp was surprised to find his grandson was up before him that morning. Luffy was at the kitchen table, eating the last of his breakfast. Garp noticed he was dressed in his new school uniform, clean, and his school things were beside him on the table. Blinking, the old man walked into the kitchen, still in his bathrobe. “You're up early today, Luffy.”
Luffy smiled after swallowing the last bit of breakfast food in his mouth. “I'm leaving early to meet up with Zoro and his friends. They're gonna help me settle into Eichiiro Oda High before classes start.”
Garp smiled. It sounded like his youngest grandson would make some new friends early. “Good to hear! Also, I had a talk with Principal Shanks last night. He's looking forward to having you attend his school.”

Shanks had been a close family friend since before Luffy had been born. He had been friends to Luffy's parents, and when they died in a plane crash, he helped out Garp in any way with raising Luffy and in the boy's education. Garp considered the man to be like a second son to him, and to Luffy he was like an uncle. And now, he was going to be his new principal as of today.
“Here, let me take care of the dishes,” Garp said, taking Luffy's empty plate and silverware away. “You should go meet with Zoro and his buddies as soon as possible.”
“Thanks, Gramps! By the way, Ace called this morning to wish me luck at school.”
“Did he now? That was good of him to call all the way from Loguetown University for just that.”
Portgas D. Ace, who had kept his mother's maiden name after she died in accordance to her will, was currently a junior in college. Luffy and Garp rarely saw him except on certain holidays as Ace lived in an apartment near campus and had a regular job there.

Grabbing his bag, Luffy got up from his chair, gave his grandfather a quick salute, and then headed for the garage. “I'm off!”
“Bye, Luffy; have a good first day at school! And I'll want a full report when you come home!”
The garage door opened and Luffy slung his schoolbag onto his back before he strapped on a helmet. He walked his motorcycle out of the garage before mounting it and revving it up enough to get it started. The bike had originally belonged to Ace, but he gave it to Luffy as an early 17th birthday present. Luffy accepted it with love and pride, and took great care of the vehicle as if it was originally his own. Now, he would use it as his main transportation to his new school.

Riding off, he failed to notice he had been watched by the girl next door as she walked out from her home, waved goodbye to her foster mother, and paused to watch him exit the garage and start his motor.
“Who was that masked rider?” she asked herself, unaware she had made a joke about an old action hero TV show. Shrugging, the girl resumed her walk to school, a gym bag slung over one arm and her schoolbag in her free fist.
I'll find out about my new neighbors soon enough, knowing Bellemere. In the meantime, this Queen has her third day as a senior to dominate.

“Well, gentlemen,” Principal Shanks said with a smirk as he approached five seniors outside the main entrance to school. “I doubt I need to guess why you're all out here, do I?”
“Good morning, Principal Shanks,” the five said in semi-unison.
Shanks eyed them carefully, recalling their names from memory: Takeru Kaku, Victor Franky, Usagi Usopp, Ryo Koza, and Roronoa Zoro. They weren't the best students as far as sports or grades went (except for Zoro as he was the third smartest in the school, though the Royalty denied this), but they at least respected the Faculty and most of their classmates.
“We're just waiting for a friend of Zoro's, sir,” Koza explained. “He's just starting here at Oda High.”
“He knows all about it, guys,” Zoro said, leaning against the brick wall of the side of the school. “Principal Shanks knows Luffy; he's known him longer than I have, actually.”
“He knows all about it, guys,” Zoro said, leaning against the brick wall of the side of the school. “Principal Shanks knows Luffy; he's known him longer than I have, actually.”
“Guilty as charged,” Shanks grinned. He then turns his head at the approaching sounds of a motorcycle engine. “I wonder if… yes, here he is now.”
The six watch as a black motorcycle comes to a stop right in front of them, and the rider removes his helmet. The rider shakes his short black hair a little, trying to shake off the little traces of sweat built up form the helmet, before facing them, smiling. “Hey, Zoro! Shanks!”
“Luffy!” Both cry happily as they approach. Luffy had dismounted from his ride to shake hands or high-five with his old friends.
“Good to have you here, my boy,” Shanks stated happily. “Too bad it's only for this school year, but it could be worse.”
“Looking good, Luffy,” Zoro remarked with a grin. “Ace's old bike really suits you better than it did him. Come over here and meet the guys.”
“Shouldn't I park my bike first?”
“There's plenty of time yet before class, Luffy. Go and introduce yourself,” Shanks urged.
And so Luffy walked over with Zoro as the four other guys came up to meet him and vice-versa. Zoro acted as the go-between, pointing out who was who. “Luffy, these are my friends who are also my group I hang out with in and out of school. This is Franky, Kaku, Usopp, and Koza. Boys, meet my surrogate brother, Monkey D. Luffy.”
“What's up, dudes?” Luffy said, smiling and giving a little wave.
“Hiya!” “How do?” “Nice to meet you.” “Yo, dude.”
Zoro slung a friendly arm around Luffy. “We five make up a sort of resistance group who stand up to the Royalty when need be. That also makes us the usual targets of those seven. But if you ever get into any trouble, you come see us. Got it?”
“No problem. And if you guys ever need anything, just look my way.”
“No problem. And if you guys ever need anything, just look my way.”
After shaking hands with the guys, Luffy excused himself to move his bike and park it, with Zoro tagging along. Once this was done, they walked their way into the side entrance of the building and wandered the hallways to the principal's office, where Shanks and the others were waiting. Shanks handed Luffy the necessary papers given to every student at the beginning of the year: school handbook, a class schedule complete with homeroom, teachers' names, classroom numbers, and lunch break time; a map of the school's layout and classrooms, a list of active clubs approved by the school and looking for new members, and a lunch menu for the month. Luffy was also given a slip of paper with a locker number, location, and combination.
Immediately, Zoro and the others got out their schedules to compare with Luffy's. He wrote down which classes he had with which person, and jotted down on the copy of Zoro's email about the Royalty which classes he had with any of the Kings and/or Queens. Luckily, according to the group and even Shanks, any classes he had with any of the Royalty were also with one or more of Zoro's group.
“Good thinking,” Shanks told Zoro, “sending Luffy the info on the Royalty.” While Shanks didn't appreciate some of the attitudes of the Kings and Queens, his hands were tied due to their academic levels and, in the case of Sanji and his two friends, athletic skills. Not to mention some of their parents were members of the school board, like Nefertiri Cobra (Vivi's father).
“How about you five show Luffy around before homeroom starts?” Shanks suggested. He took out several slips of papers, hall passes, and quickly filled them out for each of them. “Just in case you run into overtime. I'll go talk to Aokiji-sensei to let him know about his new student for homeroom. And Luffy? We're big time rivals with Mocktown, so… be prepared if any old “friends” suddenly show up unannounced.”
Luffy gave Shanks a thumbs-up sign before he followed the others out into the hallways to begin his tour.

No sooner had Nami, Vivi, Tashigi, and Robin entered the bustling hallways of the school, they were greeted by their counterparts, the Three Kings. Nami gave a slight frown at the way Sanji looked at her; she tolerated him as a friend, but she knew he wanted them to be more, but she couldn't see that happening ever.
“Good morning, my queens,” Sanji said with a polite bow. “How are you four doing today?” Despite his words, his question was directed solely at Nami.
“We're fine, thank you,” Robin replied for the four of them. She knew Nami didn't like the attention Sanji gave her friend. “What about you boys?”
Fullbody ignored Robin; he was busy with Tashigi, who smiled at him and him, her.
“I am fine as well,” Helmeppo replied, but the girls seemed to ignore him completely. That is, until he said, “There's buzz about a new student who just transferred here from Mocktown.”
Nami turned to look at him. “New Student?” Was this the guy she had seen leaving the house next door earlier?
Sanji was more interested in the name of the school the transfer had been from. “Mocktown? What's one of their losers doing here?”
“Maybe he got tired of the place and got out when he could?” Vivi suggested. “So, any solid info on this student?”
“He's currently being showed around,” Fullbody said, his eyes never leaving Tashigi's. “That's all we know, and we have yet to see him.”
“If he's from Mocktown, then we shouldn't concern ourselves with him,” Tashigi said. “It may hurt our reputations if we're seen associating with such riff-raff.”

Nami scoffed at this. “Let's meet with this guy first, and then make a decision, Tashigi.”
“Oh come on, Nami! We're the Royalty; we're above the norm of this school, and we can't lower ourselves to associating with anybody who doesn't meet our standards. I mean, we're already at risk by dealing with Zoro and his losers.”
Robin hid her displeasure of Tashigi's tone very well; an art she had mastered since they were freshmen. She had kept a secret form her friends in the Royalty - she was smitten with Zoro. The only reason she butted heads with him at times was only so she could talk to him somewhat, and still keep her friends. However, she was growing tempted to up and leave behind her status as a Queen to follow her heart.

“Flattery, Tenchi Tashigi, will get you absolutely nowhere with me or my friends.”
The Royalty turned at the source of the voice, and most of them scowled or frowned; Zoro was standing some feet from them, returning with his own frown at them.

“And what do you want?” Sanji growled.
“As much as it disgusts me to be so close to any of you, especially in a full group like now,” Zoro stated, “I came to give you all ample warning: the new kid that just transferred here? He's off limits you all seven of you, especially you four.” He referred to the Four Queens with his last comment.
“And what is this new student to you, Roronoa?” wondered Robin, slightly annoyed, or appearing to be.
Zoro looked her right in the eye. “He's a good friend of mine, that's why. And if I find out any of you pulls something on him… well, it'll be worth getting expelled.”
Nami raised an eyebrow at the comment. “Really? This guy means that much to you? I never figured you to swing that way.”
“I could say something similar about you given how you're single, Hayabusa… but I won't sink to your level.”
“Watch it,” Nami and Sanji said angrily.

Just then, the bell rang, signaling homeroom would begin shortly. Still frowning, Zoro said, “Remember; the new guy is with me,” and then walked away with books in hand. Robin watched him go, hiding her smile behind her face. It touched her how Zoro cared about his friends and would do anything for them and their safety.
“Robin, Vivi,” Nami said, pushing her way past Sanji. “Let's get to homeroom. Later, Tashigi.”
“Whatever,” Tashigi replied emotionlessly as she followed Fullbody down the hallway to their homeroom. This left Sanji and Helmeppo to head to their homerooms by themselves.

“Whoever this new guy is,” Sanji told Helmeppo, “let's keep our eyes on him. If he is a friend of Zoro's, I dunno if we should leave him be.”

“Quiet,” Aokiji said aloud to his homeroom class. “Quiet, everybody.” While soft-spoken, Aokiji's giant-like size was his advantage in keeping all of his classes under control. “Thank you,” he said once the students had silenced themselves. “Now… we have a new student joining us for the rest of the school year. He's from Mocktown High, originally…”
There was a long hush over the room.
There was a long hush over the room.
“…You were supposed to either cry “boo” or “hiss” or something right there,” Aokiji said, and then shrugged. “Well, can't say I didn't give the opportunity. Anyway, despite he's from Mocktown, he is now attending school here, so let's make him feel welcome. He'll be along shortly, as he's being given a quick tour of the school…”
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and then it opened and in stepped Koza. “Sorry I'm late, sensei,” he said as he approached Aokiji. “Here's my pass.” He hands Aokiji the paper Shanks had given him earlier.

“Okay, Mr. Ryo. Is he outside?”
“Hai.”
“Hai.”
“Very well, take your seat.” Aokiji then moved to the open door and started talking softly to someone outside the room while Koza went to his desk and sat down.
Nami, Vivi, and Robin exchanged looks quickly. They were curious as to what this new student, Zoro's friend, looked like.
Then, Aokiji said aloud, “Please come in and introduce yourself, son.” He walked back to his desk, and in stepped a teen with short black hair and a skinny physique.
His eyes quickly glanced about the room, and he recognized the three girls sitting in close proximity of each other; they were three of the Four Queens. Yet he kept his expression neutral so as to not appear suspicious. Moving to stand aside of Aokiji's desk, he faced the class and gave a polite bow.
“Hello. My name is Monkey D. Luffy, and I just transferred here. I'm pleased to be here, and to meet you all.”
Not bad, Vivi thought, but so not my type.
Nami's eyes seemed to be locked onto Luffy. She couldn't explain it, but one thought popped into her head after seeing him finally, and hearing his voice for the first time: This guy is cute.
So this is Zoro's friend, Robin mentally mused. She then noticed through the corner of her eye how Nami looked at him, and gave a half smile. Interesting; very interesting indeed.
“Thank you, Mr. Monkey,” Aokiji said suddenly. “Now, please take the seat next to Miss Hayabusa there, the girl with the orange hair. Don't worry, she doesn't bite. Much.”
This caused some of the students to laugh a little. Ignoring this, Luffy moved to his desk and sat down while Aokiji took attendance. He looked back at Koza's desk, who gave a quick wink and smile, signaling he'd have Luffy's back. He then pulled out his schedule again to look over again when his next class was and where. However, he was unaware that the three Queens kept sneaking looks at him, Robin especially as she also copied down his schedule so she would compare it with hers and also Nami's.
Despite the warning Zoro gave us, I'd really like to have a talk with this friend of his. Maybe he can tell me more about Zoro that I don't know right now. Also… he may be the one…
Robin glanced over at Nami, who quickly turned away as Robin had caught her sneaking a look at Luffy. A soft giggle escaped her closed lips. Her eyes quickly dart towards Vivi, seeing if Vivi, too, had caught Nami in the act. However, the bell suddenly rang, signaling the end of homeroom. All of the students rose up, and then gave a collective bow to Aokiji.
As expected by the Queens, Koza and Luffy were quick to gather their things and exit the room together. They gathered their things as well and left together.
“Even Koza's in on keeping that new guy away from us, it seems,” Vivi commented as they strode down the crowded hallways. “How rude.”
“Zoro's probably warned the new guy about us already, no doubt,” Nami added. “Just because we're three of the Royalty doesn't mean we're all that bad as Zoro makes us out to be. Then again, if it weren't for Sanji, Helmeppo and Fullbody, we'd probably have a nicer reputation than we do now. And Tashigi doesn't make it any better, either, with her acting like she's a goddess or something and everybody else is just scum of the earth. And what are you looking at, Robin?”
“Oh, just my copy of Luffy's schedule.” Robin tears out the paper and holds it out for Nami and Vivi to see. “He never noticed me doing it, too.”
Vivi flashed a grin. “Nice work, Robin. Hey, he's in our next class, Nami - English.”
“Yes, he is,” Nami agreed. “But so is Sanji, remember?”
“And also Franky,” Robin added, “which means Luffy is already covered in case of trouble.”
“Maybe from Sanji or, dare I say, us, Robin… but not from Ms. Valentine. She's possibly the worst female teacher of this school.”
Robin smiled at Nami. “Well… perhaps you should go warn him. As for me, I have French class. Later.” And so Robin walked off into a nearby classroom while Vivi and Nami continued on their way.

“…What's with her? It's not like I care if that guy gets in trouble with Valentine or Sanji.”
“Well, you were sneaking looks at him during homeroom, Nami.”
“O-Only because I was figuring out exactly why Zoro gives a damn about him. He's nothing special.”

By the time everyone in class was in their seats, sans Luffy as he had no seat yet, a tall woman with blond hair and an outfit that looked like it was taken from the 1920's era America walked into the class. She eyed Luffy for a moment with an unhappy look before she then said, “Oh, yes… the new student, right?”
“Hai,” Luffy replied, bowing at the teacher. “I'm Monkey D. Luffy.”
“Hai,” Luffy replied, bowing at the teacher. “I'm Monkey D. Luffy.”
The lady bowed in kind, but still didn't look happy. “I am Valentine-sensei. Now, go take your seat. Just sit anywhere in the back, I don't care where. Now,” Ms. Valentine said whiel Luffy went to one of the empty desks in the rear of the class. “Books away and pencils out; we're having a quiz first thing-. YES, Mr. Victor?”
Franky lowered his hand a little due to the upset tone in the teacher's voice. “Er, Valentine-sensei… Luffy just started school today, so… shouldn't he… be excused from the quiz?”
“No excuses!” snapped Ms. Valentine. “New student or not, he has to take the quiz like everybody else. If he fails it, it's not my problem.”
Vivi shot up from her seat. “But what if he doesn't know what's on the quiz, sensei?”
“Miss Nefertari… you will sit down this minute, or you will serve detention the next three days!”
“I'll take the quiz.” All heads turned and looked over at Luffy, who had his hand raised. “As sensei said, if I fail then I fail.”
Oddly enough, Ms. Vaneltine smiled. “See? The new student knows his place. Now, let's get ready for the quiz.”
Vivi slowly sat back down before Ms. Valentine began passing out sheets of paper to each student, face down. “Do NOT turn them over until I say to begin, and also hands off your pencils until otherwise.” She saved Luffy for last. “I'll give you your textbook after the quiz, Mr. Monkey.” She then walked up to sit behind her desk.

“You have fifteen minutes; anything not answered by then will be automatically marked off as a zero. Begin!”
Each student flipped their quiz papers and began scribbling. Fifteen minutes later, Ms. Valentine ordered everyone to put their pencils down before she went around collecting each paper. Once she had them all, she sat back in her chair to grade them first thing.
“We'll start with Mr. Monkey D. Luffy,” she said, taking out her red marker. However, it never touched the paper for a good minute while her eyes slowly widened while she looked over the paper. Suddenly she stood up and spoke in pure, non-accented English towards Luffy. In kind, he stood up and answered her in the same language.
Sanji and Nami listened intently; they, too, understood the English language. Vivi tried to follow the conversation, but she wasn't as good as Nami or Sanji. Reading English was her forte, not speaking it. As for Franky, he had absolutely no idea what was going on.
And then, to everyone's surprise, Ms. Valentine smiled warmly. “Thank you, Mr. Monkey; you may be seated. Be careful, Mr. Ichida, Miss Hayabusa,” she then said towards Sanji and Nami. “It would seem you both have a string rival for top student in my class. Mr. Monkey here just got the first ever 100 percent score on one of my quizzes.”
Most of the class now looked at Luffy in disbelief as he sat back down. Franky's jaw hung open in shock; Zoro hadn't mentioned that Luffy spoke English fluently. Nami, Sanji, and Vivi were shocked, too, especially the first two. Sure, they never got perfect scores in English, but they had high marks regardless.
Mental note, Franky thought as he forced his mouth to close, make Luffy my study buddy for future English tests and such.
Shock was soon replaced by scorn as far as Sanji was concerned. To him, Luffy just became an unwanted rival. He'd better not try to butt in between Nami and me…
Nami, however, was becoming more and more interested in Luffy, more than she dared to admit. He's smarter than he seems to be… wonder if he's actually been to America or even England before now?
Vivi eyed Luffy for a brief moment before she turned away from him. Maybe we should invite him to join the Kings? If he's THAT good in this class that he makes Valentine-sensei smile, he may be equally good in other classes. …IF I can get the idea passed by Sanji and the other Kings first.
Once the quizzes were graded, Ms. Valentine got Luffy his book and began the lessons for the day.
