Joshua W. Circlebrain
Josh’s eyes are a novel in Greek
And the eighth sea
They are sharper than the knives I feel
When they pass me by
Josh’s eyes are Tartarus, Elysian, and Cerebrus’ leash
A poisoned wolf trap
And a carrot lured by lies on a growing nose
Josh’s eyes are the warmth of a pillow after the dreamer has gone
They are the cool of fresh sheets, not yet touched by sleepy feet
And the Honduran maid that makes the bed
Josh’s eyes are the envy of the foxes
And dropping beads on the abacus
Josh’s eyes are every Fall Out Boy lyric
A bee sting that closes my throat
Josh’s eyes are the color of birth
And the shape of a happy death
Josh’s eyes are a bed-headed brunette boy
And his mouth the tomboy best friend next door
The sheep leaping the nocturnal fence
The psycopomp to my internal hell
And no more appreciative
Than a sated Sphinx seated on riddles
Josh’s eyes are a crisp hundred-dollar bill
To a lean courtesan
Josh’s eyes are Mona Lisa’s lips
And Neko Case’s voice
Josh’s eyes are the Knowledge of Good and Evil
And the Metatron
Josh’s legs are the empire state building
The paws of a sinning fox
Who can hear the hounds of death coming
And the helicopter ski, running down the wolf
Josh’s hands are long like eternity
And the wages of the devil
Far behind on his payments
Josh’s laugh is the wing of Seraphim
Enough to strike a human soul down
Josh’s smile is the silver bullet
And the bezoar for the heart
Josh’s stride is a smash hit riff
And God’s gift to my enemies
Josh’s mind is the printing press
Versailles
And the colored lights
Josh is what I name my first born child
And the cardiac arrest
Josh is my words
And they are slipping away from me
