Sleeper's Ballad
The shadows of my soul sway in the night, the light all but hidden in the darkness.
I lay in a listless sleep, and await my coming foe.
My eyes deceive; my ears hear what is not,
And deny what is. My heart abandons me,
And hope is but a fleeting whisper.
The water of my tears kisses my face.
Leaving behind the remnants of grief and shame,
It is like this that I go to meet my greatest peril.
I do not remember the tales of courage,
Nor the song of wisdom, I cannot fathom Joy's sighs, nor the welcoming arms of peace.
The call of honor has long been dead, and all
That is left to me is my anguish.
It is here, when fear tightens its grip, and I falter,
That the light of the rising sun touches death's cold,
Bringing life where there had been none.
It is then that I hear the song of salvation.
It's soft voice giving strength to the withering remains of my heart.
Its light driving away the darkness and restoring my sight.
My ears heard nothing but its glorious proclamation.
My feet found their footing, and my hands found promise.
I have awoken from my bitter slumber, casting away the broken pieces.
The darkness that was, can nevermore be.
For I have found hope, and have taken it captive.
Its feather light touch has given my heart wings, and destroyed the last vestige of my fears.
Freedom shines through my eyes and I know that I was meant to fly.
