Original Poetry Fan Fiction ❯ The Other ❯ The Other ( Chapter 1 )

I never thought I would enjoy being the other woman
Your way with words clouds my judgment and confuses my reasoning
They caress my skin like ghosts of breaths to replace the absent hands that
itch to make contact from distances too great to cross
The things you promise to do with that crafty appendage betray your intentions
But I am a tool of reprieve and tonight your head rests, not on my pillow...
not beside my own within range of my viewing so that my eyes may delight
in the angles and contours of your features
No...tonight your lashes fall peacefully against cheeks, and you come to
rest, legs intertwined with the one more worthy of sharing your
vulnerability
And I...I return you to her tonight as I will tommorrow and the night
after that, only moments before the light of a new day slips under
her eyelids to alert her to your absence
I return you to her
Even as the shadows chase themselves under the soles
of your shoes as you make your hasty retreat
I return you to her
Because you are not mine to keep
And as I watch your back, silhouette fading and distorted like drops
of water distort reflections, I tremble with the realization of what I
have become for the sake of the words that caress my skin like ghosts
of breaths to replace the words I truly long to hear
I never thought I would enjoy being the other woman...
Should we keep things this way?
You say you hope not forever, but maybe for now
You have yet to figure out that with you...now is eternal
