Chapter 2: June 25, 2010
An alarm clock crackled, and a hand slapped it silent. Katie Katzen was a twenty three year old girl who worked as first mate on a large Amazon tour boat aptly named the Amazon King. She sat up and stretched, her naked body jiggled slightly. Katie was decently tall with long blonde hair that extended to the small of her back, her bangs were cut short. She was a big girl; well you couldn’t call her fat. She had a tummy that hung over her waist band a little bit, her breasts were firm D-cups, however she was wide hipped, and she had a rotund firm ass and thick legs. She put her circular framed glasses on, Katie was farsighted. Her eyes besides having vision problems were two different colors; green and brown respectively. She was of full German descent; her Grandfather who’d raised her was a former SS lieutenant and a veteran of Stalingrad, and a deserter. She had his uniforms and his old Kar-98k Mauser and his Luger P-08.
Katie slid her pants on, a pair of baggy blue jeans. Her wide ass made finding pants that fit hard, but she managed. She slipped her belt on and hooked her knives to it; the Mauser bayonet, and a folding knife. Then she put on a black tee-shirt with a KoRn logo on it, her breasts stretched the fabric tight. Then from the desk in her cramped room she grabbed up her Colt Python and its shoulder holster, quickly put it on. Then she grabbed her Grandpa’s uniform jacket, the combat grey drab one, not the black SS one which she had as well but never wore. She didn’t button it either, not that she could. Lastly she put the old Nazi fatigue hat on; it was black with the death’s head on it and a pin that she’d added herself, a bright yellow smiley face that had ‘have a nice day’ written on it. She slipped her converse high tops on.
She and two of the other crew members were going to pick up their charters at the airport, a large family that wanted to see the rainforest, without getting too dirty. Exactly what their boat was for, it was too big to go down the small rivers or any shallow areas but they could get around and they always had smaller boats on board. The Amazon King was actually a sea worthy vessel with a lot of space on board. Granted Katie’s room was just a little bit bigger than the size of a large walk in closet. But she made the most use of the space; with a dresser, a bed, a laptop computer, a PS1, a small TV, posters and printed out porn, her rifle, her kitten, its litter box and food, dirty clothes spread across the floor, empty candy wrappers, and her collection of playboy magazine’s there really wasn’t any proof that she actually had a floor or walls. But she liked it; it was home, her home.
“Hey, Katie you ready yet? Jean at the store called to, he’s got your stuff in.” Jamal called out from the other side of the door. Jamal was a 6’ 7” hulking tank of a south African man, he put the hulk to shame with his muscles; his real name wasn’t Jamal, but no one could pronounce it so he just went by Jamal. Although he was an intimidating man, he was actually really friendly and extremely smart; when he took an IQ test he scored a 210. Katie liked to call him ‘Big Brother Bear’, and he treated her like his little sister. He’d lost his whole family to the diamond wars in his homeland and had moved to Brazil and was hired by Jack to be a deck hand on the Amazon King.
“Ja klar, Ich komme mit!” Katie shook her head. She’d been raised speaking German by her Grandfather, and hence spoke several broken languages due to her work. At times Katie spoke almost complete gibberish, especially if she got angry. However, Big Brother Bear would always understand her, just like Captain Jack.
“Ok Katie, we’re leaving in ten, be there.”
“Jawohl!” Katie smiled. She taught about Jack, their captain. Katie’s father had never been in the picture while she was growing up, and her mother died when she was thirteen from malaria, then when she turned eighteen her Grandfather died from old age. She was alone until she found Jack Kirk three weeks later they started the business together, he was just out of the US Army and had decided to settle in Brazil. Both of them didn’t have any family, then slowly they put a crew together and with it they formed a kind of family. She looked to him as a father, the one she never had. He was old enough to be her father and she always thought she got her strength from her unknown father. And Jack was strong, even at sixty he had the same strength she imagined he’d always had.
She walked out into the hallway, leaving her door open so Schrodinger could venture around. Katie breathed in deeply and thought to herself; this is going to be a good day!
Katie saw Diego walking towards her. He was another deck hand, a local. He was the picturesque Latino boy toy; long black hair, a handsome cleanly shaven face, tall tone sexy body, a deep tan, and a sexy voice. Jack often joked that he hired him to be eye candy for the ladies who come with their husbands onboard; however, Katie knew that Jack hired him because he’s a hard working guy and knows what he’s doing. No one got anything from Jack for free, never.
“Good morning Katie.” Diego gave her a quick hug, a friendly hug. They weren’t lovers, nor would they ever be, Katie had no interest in men sexually. One look at the porn that covered her walls would tell you that she was a full out lesbian, and a furry. Diego patted her lightly on the head after he broke their quick hug, he smiled and said, “Wow, you look awake today Katie.”
Katie nodded and stepped into the morning sunlight; momentary blindness struck her as her eyes adjusted from the dark cavern that was her room. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, a beautiful hot day in the rainforest like every other day in Brazil. The little town was a dump, but the people were mostly nice but they got a few crazies every once in a blue moon so Katie always kept a pistol on herself. She stepped out onto the dock and walked down its rotting wood planks towards the town’s street toward where Jamal was waiting. Diego caught up with them and they headed toward the small airport.
The plane had arrived on time and soon their charters got out. The McManus family, the one who’d bought the charter was the father of the family Dirk McManus. When Katie saw him she instantly thought of him as a batterer; he was tall with well kept short graying hair, he wore an expensive looking light tan suit, his face was that of a ruthless business man, he was obviously in great physical shape, to Katie he looked like a control freak. It was men like him who kept Jack’s operation in business, middle age business men who wanted to drag their families to see the beauty of the Amazon. Dirk walked over to them.
“Who is in charge of you three?” He said
“I’m the second mate, Katie.” Katie held her hand out, “Nice to meet you, I’m also the resident survival expert.”
“Well you sure look like you have no trouble finding food.” Dirk’s second eldest child said from behind him. She was Mary, a sixteen year old Paris Hilton wanna-be skinny slut, the type of girl who made Katie’s stomach churn. She really did pull off the Paris look, she even had a useless yipper dog in her purse; the dog couldn’t be much bigger then Katie’s kitten.
“Mary! Show some respect, I raised you better then that!” Dirk looked harshly at his daughter, who quickly looked away.
The eldest of Dirk’s kids walked up carrying a large suitcase. Her name was Sabrina she was eighteen, and she was dressed in all black; black torn jeans, a black tank top with a skull and rose print, a spiked collar, her nails were painted black, and she had black eyeliner. Katie liked the purple highlights in her black hair, Sabrina was also very thin. Katie knew just by looking at Sabrina that they could get along, maybe even become friends. But she could probably use a little more sense when dressing for the weather then all black.
Then the rest of the family came running up; two eight year-old twin boys with twin flat top haircuts, the tired looking mother, and Mary’s boy friend. Mary’s boyfriend, James as he introduced himself was the star linebacker at his high school; he was tall, wore a varsity jacket, dark skinned, and blond. He looked just like the stereotypical dumb jock from every American teen movie Katie had ever seen, he held a football.
“Hey, tubs!” James cocked his arm back and threw the football right at Katie’s face, “Catch!”
Katie raised her arms to block, but someone caught the football, Katie looked up to see one of her best friends standing in front of her holding the football.
“That wasn’t very nice, tell me what did little Katie ever do to you?” He spoke. His name was Kuroudo Itachi; he was of medium height with long black hair with trimmed bangs and red high lights, he wore a plain black shirt and fatigue pants with big black combat boots, he also carried a pistol on his belt. Kuroudo threw the ball back to James and turned to Katie; his face was clean shaven and almost girlish looking, he was smiling and wearing glasses. “Look Katie, I finally got to the eye doctor, you were right I did need glasses.”
“Aw, you’re welcome sweetie.” Katie smiled at him. Kuroudo worked as a rescuer for a new anti-terrorist team being set up by the UN using mercenaries, the promise of steady pay had attracted many like Kuroudo to their ranks. Kuroudo himself was a natural born killer, born to be on the field of battle. Unfortunate for him he was born in the wrong century; his homeland of Japan had no need of a samurai like him anymore. He’d left Japan and went to South America working for whoever would pay for his services; he was one of the few true mercenaries left in the world, the last wolf with fangs. He was nice to Katie, definitely one of her true friends.
“You need any help with your gear?” Kuroudo looked at the assembled group, “I’ll be glad to help you out; I don’t have anything else to do today.”
“Why are you even here?”Mary said with a scowl
“Because I saw Katie walking this way and I wanted to chat with her, she’s my friend we do stuff like communicate with one another.” Kuroudo raised a brow, “And where I came from if I would have talked to an adult like that my father would have punched me in the mouth. You should try being more nice to people, especially Katie. Because that big black guy next to her is her big brother, and you don’t want him straightening you out.”
“Can we just get to the boat?” Sabrina was panting and struggling to lift her suitcase. Kuroudo walked over to her and took the suit case.
“Just hand me whatever is heavy.” Jamal said as he slung a duffle bag over his shoulder.
After they got all of the luggage together they started towards the boat.
-Somewhere deep in the jungle-
Alex looked around, he was lost. The whole world around him seemed to have gained accusing eyes and was staring into his soul. The fear was maddening; he’d been running for hours from invisible demons and unseen predators. His mind was beginning to falter, the heat and lack of sleep was getting to him. He stumbled around, then he something caught his footing and he fell.
“God MOTHER FUCKING DAMN IT!” He grabbed the offending object and looked at it.
“What the fuck is this doing here?” Alex was holding an old radio that had large claw marks in it. Still lying on the ground he scanned the surrounding soil for any more clues, to his right he saw what looked like a stick, but it was too straight. He grabbed and pulled out a very rusted bolt action rifle, it was far too rusted to be able to fire but he opened the bolt, which amazingly still moved. The gun wasn’t loaded, but he noted the same deep claw marks in its wood furniture as the radio did. “What in all the Hells could have done this?”
“Alex! Where are you Alex!?” Alex heard several voices call to him.
“I’m over here!” Alex stood up and screamed, he could see them now, “You guys have to see what I found!”
It smiled down on the young male’s fortune to be leave. If he was not get rescued, It would be eat him. It sifted it’s weight slightly in the high canopy.
