"When were you last intimate with him?"
"Um...I...I can't remember what...what times were real and what...were not." She glanced at her doctor who pointed to the judge. The judge was looking through her doctor's studies on her fragile mind.
The lawyer smiled at this. "So what you're saying is that you have a hard time distinguishing between what's real and not?"
"Only before...I was with Mr. Sinclair...he told me all the time that there was no one but him, everything else was all made up in my head..."
"That's funny, because I have a signed doctor's report talking about you being traumatized a year ago, talking about your mental state slowly deteriorating after your rape." With this he presented the document to the judge.
"The defense hasn't had access to this document!" Ryan argued.
"You're getting it now," the lawyer smirked.
"That's...not fair. I went to therapy...and they said I was fine after two months. That's why I was able to move here."
"Yes, they said you were fine to your face, but they had you taking anti psychotic meds along with your prenatal care. They were worried about your mental care and that you might have a psychotic break down."
"Giving her that stuff without her knowing is illegal," Gabby said to Ryan.
"You're the one who had her pills," Ryan whispered. "Didn't you notice they had other drugs mixed in?"
"It was one damn pill. I've never seen a prenatal pill before. How the hell am I suppose to know it was doctored. It's illegal and it can't be used if it's illegal. We both know that."
"Yeah, but that's not my father's fault it's the psychiatrist fault. I can't hold it against them all I can do is get it scratched from the record, not that it will mean much the jury has already heard it."
"You are representing her. Fix it or I'm fucking killing you," she snapped coldly.
He sighed and stood. "I want that scratched from the record. She was prescribed medicine under false pretensesShe was taking pills which weren't even the legitimate ones. That's against the law, which under section 32 of Sven vs Marker, made it inadmissible since they're declaring knowledge of criminal activity."
The judge looked at the lawyer and nodded. "He's right. I want the jury to scratch that from their record."
"I don't understand...does this mean...does this mean I'm losing?" Danny asked. She glanced over at Mr. Sinclair, not really meaning to.
Mr. Sinclair smirked and rubbed his ring finger and blew her a kiss.
Danny paled. Her body shook. "Please don't make me go! I don't want to go! I'll do anything! I don't want to get hurt anymore!" she cried.
"Tell them the truth. You liked it at my house didn't you? You love me don't you?"
"Objection! He's out of line! Danny shouldn't be forced to be subjected to this."
"One more outburst Mr. Sinclair and I'll hold you in contempt," the judge snapped.
"I'm sorry your honor," he smirked.
Danny's buried her face in her hands. She was so confused. What was she suppose to say? Was she suppose to answer him because he demanded it from her? What if she didn't? Would she get hit again?
"I'm through."
"My witnesses," Ryan said quickly as he moved to the stand. "Ms. Long, do you love Mr. Sinclair?"
Did she? She wasn't sure. He told her she did. He told her she was only ever allowed to love him.
"Ms. Long?" Ryan moved between her and his father so that she couldn't see him. All s he could see was Ryan standing before her. "Please answer the question."
Gabby hit her hand on the desk. Danny jumped and snapped her head to her sister. Gabby held out her hand then smiled. Danny slowly looked down at her own hand at the ring on her finger. Her thumb ran over it. "...no..."
Ryan let out a small breath as he heard this. "You said that you promised yourself to me. Is that correct?"
"Yes."
"So if you had promised yourself to me, why on earth would you go with Mr. Sinclair to his house if you had a choice?"
"I...wouldn't..."
"Then you didn't have a choice to go with him? Was it because your parents made you?"
"I'm underage...I had no choice but to do what my father said..."
"So you were a young girl forced to go with this man, and then he forced you to be intimate with him. Correct?"
"Yes..."
Ryan nodded. The rest of the court session went about with facts and trying to discredit one another. Finally at the end of the day it was over and the jury went to deliberate, leaving them to worry about the outcome. "You did wonderfully," Ryan told Danny as he pulled her against him.
Danny closed her eyes as Gabby wiped her tears. "It's almost over."
"I think that we have a really good chance to win this," Ryan said.
"Here's hoping we do. If dad is unable to oversee his estate, control falls to me," Nick smirked. "He forgot to change his will because he didn't think there was any way for him to lose."
"Well Danny and I will be taken care of. I sold that necklace to the museum for a lot of millions."
Ryan nodded. "Good. It belongs in a museum. It's too good for this family," he muttered. His hand reached out and caressed Danny's cheek as he kissed her forehead. "When this is through we'll go out to eat and celebrate."
"Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Let's take this one step at a time."
"I know, but at least one of us needs to be optimistic."
"Hey, even if we lose, she's not obligated to go back to him. She didn't marry him so she can leave him."
"Yes, at least she's away from that bastard." He looked up as the verdict came in. The jury passed the vote to the judge.
"In the case of the rape of a minor the jury finds the defendant not guilty. In the case of endangering the well fair of a minor, the jury finds him guilty. In the case of abuse the jury finds him guilty."
The judge nodded. "You will be sentenced to seven years," the judge said as she slammed her gavel.
Danny glanced over at Mr. Sinclair as he was put in handcuffs.
"This is an outrage!" he yelled. He glared at the kids. "You'll regret this!"
Ryan pulled Danny to him.
"Oh sure we will. Blah blah, old man. See you in hell."
"Actually...we should be careful. Dad has contacts that can make our lives hell...or end them."
"Money goes a long way. I have connections too."
"Gabby....don't call them..." Danny begged.
"It's only a last resort."
"Why don't we go home? I'd really like to get a good night's sleep on a nice soft bed rather than a cockroach infested floor," Ryan said with a smile.
"Sure, but we won't be going to my father's house. We are going to my new house."
"You...have a new house?" Ryan asked. When did this happen?
"I told you, I prepared for the worst. Even after I sold the necklace, I took a shit load of money from my parents. Mostly to piss them off and because money makes me happy," she smirked.
He smirked and nodded. "Good. As long as it has a comfy bed I'll be good."
Gabby watched Danny as they took Mr. Sinclair away. Her face was pale and her eyes wide. Even though he was being put away, her fear was still present. Gabby took her hand and pulled her close. After a moment to think, Danny started to the car. They sat in the limo after wading through the press and crowds. Danny stared out the window.
“They gave me crazy pills…am…am I really…that messed up?” she whispered.
“You are just fragile, Danny. You don’t need medication. Those bastards don’t know what the hell they were talking about. They don’t know you like I know you.”
Danny looked over at her as her lip quivered. “Maybe…maybe I do need help.”
Gabby’s eyes hardened. “No you don’t. You don’t need anyone but me.”
Ryan leaned back in his seat and watched as Gabby tried to comfort her. He should resent her words, but honestly he was past all that for the moment. Right now all he wanted to do was to relax and put this behind him. He watched as Nick sat on the phone arranging things. Their father was in jail, Nick was trying his best to put things into motion to gain full access of the estate.
It wasn't long before they pulled up to Gabby and Danny's new manor. Movers were still moving things. It was a private estate and it wasn't as big as their father's England home, but it was enough for them and then some. Gabby had hired those that were working in her father's house so Danny wouldn't have to adjust. They got out of the limo and Gabby took Danny's hand.
"You can have any room you want. This is your house too. As soon as you are ready, we can shop for a new wardrobe and new things."
As soon as Nick got out to go inside, Ryan stopped him. "What are you doing? Don't you have your own place to go to?"
Nick looked at him, slightly shocked. "Yeah...but I figured that with everything that has happened.... I mean.... Haven't I redeemed myself any?"
Ryan frowned and sighed. "Yeah... I guess so. But this is their house. You should at least ask them if you can crash here."
"Shouldn't you too?"
Ryan hesitated, but did nod after a moment. "Yeah. I just assumed it would be okay...but after all this, I really don't know."
Gabby watched at Danny ran her fingers over artwork and furniture while the workers put things in their place. Gabby had bought things that reminded her and Danny of better times. Like art work from the summer they spent together in Italy or furniture they had seen in Paris. She had been planning this since Danny was first taken from her. Danny looked over at her as she picked up a vase.
"The winter in Greenland..."
"You made a big deal about this vase...I never thought you would go back for it..."
"Well, I always get what I want."
"Yes, you are rather stubborn at times," Ryan said from behind her. "Gabby, may I speak with you for a moment?"
"Yeah." She looked at Danny. "Go pick out a room and tell the workers where you want your bed and stuff." She walked into the large kitchen with Ryan.
"Listen, this is your new home and a new chance with Danny. I'll understand if you don't want me and my free loader brother staying here."
"Are you saying you and Nick don't want to stay? I just assumed we were like family now. I mean, I don't want to get mushy and all but I know Danny will want you close and I got use to having Nick eat my food."
He smirked at that and nodded. "No...we want to stay. I just wanted to make certain that it was okay with you." He thought about what she had said. A family, huh?
"Just don't get my sister pregnant. Having a kid taken from her and then an abortion from you're potential brother or sister is enough," she said and walked out.
Danny was upstairs looking at all the room. None of them really caught her eye until she found one with large windows and a small balcony. After being shut up in a room for so long, windows were nice. She walked over to the balcony and opened the doors, letting the spring air in. She motioned to the movers and they started putting her things in her room.
Ryan found himself following the movers to Danny's new room. As soon as he saw the room in question, he knew that it was hers. "Aw, you took my room," he teased softly as he walked up behind her.
She looked back at him and closed the balcony doors. "Oh...did you want this room?"
He shook his head. "I was just joking."
"Oh...right..."
He reached up and gently caressed her face. "If you want me to quit bothering you just say so, silly."
"I'm still adjusting....I just...need some time."
"Of course." His hand fell from her cheek as he turned and started to leave.
She turned back to the balcony. The movers started hanging curtains and she pulled them down harshly. Ryan looked back at her as she snapped. Biting his lip, he looked away and continued through the house to find his room.
Gabby leaned against the door in the hall watching everyone and signing things on clipboards. She looked up as Nick nervously moved about. "Find a room yet? This house has ten so I'm sure there is one you might like."
"Yeah, I'm just waiting for Ryan to pick one. I haven't decided if I want one close to his or as far away as possible...."
Gabby pointed to the room to her left. "This one is mine. It's not far from Danny's." She pointed to Danny's. "If I know your brother, he will pick the room next to hers."
He smirked and nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he won't want to leave her side," he sighed. "Well, since everyone is so packed together I guess I'll take the room next to yours."
"Suit yourself," she said and sighed another document. Her eyes narrowed at the movers. "Break anything and I break legs."
Nick smirked at that and shook his head. "Chop chop," he said to the workers, loving the way they picked up their pace and started to bustle about for fear of having appendages broken.
Gabby smirked at him before walking into her room. There was something about a guy that didn't take shit from anyone that really turned her on.
He whistled as he went to his room and tossed his stuff on the floor, growling when he realized he didn't have any furniture yet. "Hey! You" he said as he glared at one of the workers, "where's my bed?"
The worker shrugged and Nick smiled as he took a step toward him. "You've got five minutes to get it up here now or I promise you terrible, terrible things will happen. Got it?"
The worker paled and quickly scampered off. Nick just sighed in contentment. "I've still got it."
It was late at night when everything was finally moved in. They all sat on the floor in Danny's room eating take out since Danny wasn't ready to be alone yet. Gabby looked around the room. The only thing in it was a bed and a dresser. "We really need to get you some more stuff. All your crap is still at the Sinclair manor and I think it's best to just let it stay there. It's already tainted."
"Does...that mean I'm tainted?" Danny asked as she looked up from her plate.
"No of course not. Just everything else that man touched."
"Yep. He's a bonafide bastard," Ryan said as he used chopsticks to pick at his food.
"I hate to say it, but I have to agree." Ryan was using his chopsticks to pick at Gabby's food, yanking pieces of food off her plate.
Gabby smacked him upside the head. Danny jumped at the sound.
Ryan placed a hand on Danny's shoulder, gently stroking it to comfort her.
Nick growled at her. "It's just food. Hardly worth losing a hand over," he stated.
"If it's mine, it's worth killing over," she hissed.
He just laughed and pinched her cheek. "Aw, it's like having a rowdy little kitten."
She bit his hand.
He growled as she bit it, but quickly smirked. "Kinky. Just how I like it."
"I'm going to make you eat those words."
"I would like to see you try," he whispered.
"Gabby...do I have to sleep in this room alone?"
Gabby's face softened. "No, Danny. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. This is your home. You are allowed to do what you want when you want to."
"If you want, I can sleep on the floor by your bed," Ryan offered even though he desperately wanted to be able to sleep in a bed.
Danny pushed at her food. "Please eat something, Danny. You don't have to worry. He's in jail now."
"Can I...sleep with Ryan?"
Ryan's eyes widened at that. He looked over at Gabby before nodding slowly. "If you want to, of course you can."
Gabby looked at Ryan then at Danny. "I can have a door installed in your room that will connect you to his like we use to have in Dad's house. You can leave the door open so you don't feel so alone."
Danny nodded.
