Chapter 19
Homecoming Chaos II
Chase's P.O.V
Chase's eyes scanned the crowded room in search of his brother. “Kel, what the fuck is taking you so long?” Chase sent opening the mental link between them. But, once again, he received no reply. He'd been trying to reach Kel for the last hour, and his brother had yet to respond to his mental call. Chase wasn't worried though. If Kel was hurt or in any kind of danger he would of sensed it immediately. He was sure that whatever was keeping his brother, he could handle it on his own.
“Probably just fighting with his girlfriend,” Chase thought humorously. He then turned his attention to the couple trying to waltz on the dance floor. Chase watched as the witch and her boy-toy swayed back and forth to the music before turning his attention to the others dancing around them. None of these creatures knew how to waltz, with the exception of Scar and two of his goons, Stefan and Shawn, who seemed to actually know what they were doing with their women. Chase assumed it had something to do with the fact that those particular demons were older then the others. Demons that have been around a while tend to be more cultured when it comes to the finer things in life.
The snow leopard demon, on the other hand, was prancing around the frigging dance floor like a mentally challenged child, twirling around in repeated circles like a dumbass. Many of the others were dancing in a similar fashion, which is what Chase perceived to be the typical, teenager, way to slow dance in this realm.
Chase rolled his eyes and chugged the rest of his punch before making his way over to the witch.
“May I cut in?” he asked with a devilish smile. Sage shot him a surprised look before masking it.
“The song's not finished,” she said blankly.
“If it was, that would take the meaning out of cutting in, now wouldn't it?” Chase retorted sarcastically. “Besides, Dick looks tired—”
“It's Dyne,” the demon corrected irately.
“I don't care, go sit down,” Chase replied turning his gaze to meet Dyne's, his pupils dilating as he spoke. A blank expression came over Dyne's face as he nodded his head dumbly. Without uttering a word to Sage, he turned and made his way back to the table.
“Damnit Chase!” she hissed lowly to not draw attention. “What the hell is your problem?”
“I have no idea what you're talking about,” he replied innocently, stepping into her personal space. “What's wrong, don't wanna dance with me?” he snaked his right arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his body as he gripped her right hand in his left. He then smirked charmingly down at her.
“You confuse me,” she said, her eyes narrowing skeptically.
“I've heard worst,” he replied as the two began to move. He began to glide with her all over the dance floor, stopping to spin or twirl her every so often. He danced with a certain air of elegance and grace, a skill she was unaware he possessed. Sage wore a mixed look of shock and amazement as she danced with him. In his arms, she felt as though she was gilding on air. Their eyes remained locked throughout the dance as if trapped in a trance, completely oblivious to the crowd forming around them.
“I didn't know you could dance,” she said softly as if afraid speaking would somehow ruin the moment.
“There's a lot you don't know about me, witch,” he replied in a similar tone. The corners of her mouth tugged up into a smile and as the two continued to waltz. When the song ended, he stood with her still in his arms. The two gazed at each other, and just as Sage was about to open her mouth to speak she was interrupted by a sea of applause.
“So much for lying low…” Chase thought with a sigh. Sage blushed; embarrassed by the attention they were receiving. Chase grinned and bowed, like the cocky bastard that he was, before dragging her off the dance floor. The crowd calmed down and went about their business when a faster song played.
Chase suddenly felt the need to be alone with the witch as he led her out of the gym and into the hallway. Since it was night, the corridor was poorly lit with the generator lights. Sage snatched her hand away from Chase before he could take her any further.
“I have a date to get back to Chase, but thank you for the dance,” she murmured, turning to return the way they came. Chase stepped into her path and backed her into the locker, cutting off her escape.
“Don't worry about your “date”; he's still under my compulsion. He won't come looking for you or anything,” he informed with his trademark smirk. The color suddenly drained from the witch's face after hearing his words.
“Chase…not now okay. I'll let you feed after the dance,” she said, her eyes pleading.
Chase began to laugh. “I'm not hungry.”
“Then what do you want?” she asked arching a brow.
Chase paused for a moment. What did he want? Then it occurred to him and he smiled wickedly down at her.
“I want to rip your boyfriend's throat out,” he admitted seriously.
“What? No!” she yelled outraged. “And he's not my boyfriend…”
“Do you like him?” Chase asked, the humor gone from his tone.
“How is that any of your business?” she glared at him, folding her arms across her chest.
“I'm making it my business, now answer the question bitch,” he snapped.
“Fuck you,” she said with a satisfied little smile.
“Fine,” Chase said stepping away from her. “Guess you won't mind if I haul his ass outside and slaughter him then.”
Sage grabbed his hand before he could leave. “Don't you have something more important to do? Involving your mission or Scar and the others?”
“That's what the after party's for,” he grinned. “Besides, Kel would be pissed if I made a move without him, and he's not here yet. This leaves me bored with nothing to occupy my time.”
“And your only option is to torment me?” she asked, clearly annoyed by his attitude.
“Yes,” he admitted with a cocky grin.
“You know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were jealous of my date,” she pointed out smugly.
“Don't flatter yourself,” Chase rolled his eyes. “Why would I be jealous of Divan—?”
“Dyne,” she corrected.
“Whatever, I'm not jealous.”
“Uh huh,” she replied doubtfully.
“I'm not,” he growled, losing his patience.
“No need to get defensive,” she replied. “Can we go back inside now?”
“No, it's boring,” was his only answer.
“Chase, you're ruing my night.”
“You mistake me for someone who cares.”
“Urg! You're so infuriating!” she yelled, causing the generator lights to flicker.
Chase glanced at the flickering lights. “I see you're still the worst witch ever,” he remarked snidely.
“That's it! I'm going back inside,” she declared, pushing past him.
“Oh no your not,” he said before roughly yanking her back into his chest.
“Chase, Dyne is waiting for me!” she argued as she tried in vein to escape his tight grip.
“Remember when I told him to sit down? Well lover-boy will remain sitting down right where he planted his ass until I tell him he can move,” he explained, outwardly pleased with himself.
“So what, you expect me to stay with you out here all night?!” she asked incredulously.
“Not necessarily,” his smile widened. “We can always go for a walk.”
“A walk?” she repeated, shooting him with an “are you an idiot” look. “It's frigging cold outside! Do you see what I'm wearing?”
Chase allowed his eyes to roam shameless up and down her body, taking in every inch of exposed flesh.
“I am well aware of what you are, and are not, wearing little witch,” he replied with an impish grin, causing Sage to blush. Chase was very conscious of the fact that he was flirting with her, but couldn't bring himself to stop. “C'mon,” he insisted. “I'll keep you warm, I promise.”
Sage looked at him as if he had just sprouted a disfigured penis on his forehead.
“What?” he asked when she continued to stare at him.
“Nothing…” she said hesitantly looking away. “Fine, let's go.”
Chase smirked as he vanished with her into thin air.
Kel's P.O.V
“Why the fuck did I agree to this?” Kel muttered to himself as he tried to calm his breathing. He didn't know what had possessed him to kiss her, but after he did there was no going back. Everything was going fine until he started to feel light-headed, and basically every other feeling that Chase had experienced after his first encounter with Sage. At first, Kel had thought that his brother was exaggerating when he described the symptoms, but now he was experiencing the same goddamn thing. After kissing Mia, he felt a powerful force drawing them together. It was overwhelming and addictive at the same time. He suddenly felt the urge to take her in every possible way, whether she was willing or not. To quote Chase's words…it was as if his entire world had just shifted to center around her and no one else. He only bit her because he wanted to be closer to her somehow, but her response was what surprised him the most. Most people, whether human or demon, didn't react so well to being bitten like that, but she sounded as though she enjoyed it.
He found that the further he got away from her, the more his mind cleared. “Who are these bitches?” he thought turning to glance in the direction of the car. During their little make-out session, he felt a mental tug in his mind, but was unable to respond. He knew that Chase was trying to contact him, but he couldn't bring himself to focus enough to send back a reply. Kel heard the car door open and close gently, indicating that Mia had stepped outside. She began to walk towards him cautiously, which was a bad move on her part.
Kel moved so quickly that her demonic sight was unable to detect him. He then appeared in front of her, causing her to back up into the hood of the car. When he saw the slight fear on her face, he realized that his eyes were still black and his fangs were bared at her. He slowly retracted his fangs and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they had returned to their normal ocean blue color.
“A-are you okay?” she asked in a quiet tone, cringing slightly when he glared at her. Kel quickly decided that it would be pointless to grill her for information on what had just transpired between them, since Sage wasn't much help to Chase after their encounter. So he invaded her mind to see if she was conscious of what she was doing to him, but came up empty. She seemed to be just as confused as he was; she was also a little scared.
“This doesn't make any sense…” he thought wreaking his brain for an explanation. “First Chase, now me…what the hell is going on?”
“Kel, you're kinda freaking me out here…what's going on?” Mia asked hesitantly, taking a step towards him.
“Stay away from me,” Kel snapped, making her jump as he took a few steps back. Mia started at him wide-eyed.
“W-why?” she asked, hurt evident in her voice.
“Did you feel anything? When we kissed?” he asked, his tone daring her to lie.
“Other then the usual things ever girl feels…no,” she answered carefully as if talking someone down from a ledge. “Sweetie, what's wrong—” she started to say as her hand reached up to touch his cheek.
“I said don't fucking touch me!” Kel growled, instinctively catching her hand in his and forcefully twisting it back at an odd angle before he could stop himself. Kel heard and felt the bone snap in his hand. Mia screamed out in pain and dropped to her knees. He released her hand as if it had burned him, his eyes widened in shock at what he had just done.
“Fuck…” he whispered. Guilt washed through him as he watched her cradle her broken hand to her chest. He didn't mean to hurt her…
Kel lowered himself to his knees in front of her. “Mia, I'm sorry…I didn't—” he suddenly froze when he caught sight of her watery gaze. She was crying. This was the first time Kel had ever seen Mia shed even a single tear, and it was because of him.
“What did I do?” she asked confused as tears streamed down her face. Guilt consumed Kel to his very core. He had never been in a situation like this before. He wasn't good when it came to dealing with the emotions of others, which is one of the reasons why he switched to drinking animal blood instead of human, so that he wouldn't have to deal with all the emotional baggage.
“You didn't…” He tried to say but found himself lost for words. Instead, he reached for her hand, but stopped when she flinched away from him in fear.
“I'm not gonna hurt you, I promise,” he reassured her in a soothing voice. “Lemme see.” Mia looked up at him, unsure of whether she should trust him or not. She then reluctantly showed him her broken hand. The bone was now sticking out at an odd angle, and the skin around it was already discolored with black and blue marks from his rough treatment.
“I'm gonna heal it, but first I need to snap it back into place, okay?” he told her softly.
Mia nodded and closed her eyes, readying herself for the pain as Kel snapped the bone back in place. She gritted her teeth and bared through the searing burn that shot through her hand like a knife, she refused to scream.
“I'm gonna heal it now,” he said before allowing his power to surge though the wound. Mia watched as a warm, red glow engulfed her hand. Within seconds, the pain was completely gone. Kel continued to hold Mia's hand as the two sat in the middle of the woods, silence settling between them.
He gently massaged her hand as if to ease away any lingering pain. He didn't understand why he was so ridden with guilt for hurting her when a few weeks ago he had pinned her to a classroom desk by her throat, kidnapped her and was ready to kill her entire family if need be. And he had done it all without batting an eye. So why did he care now all of a sudden? Her quiet sniffles interrupted his train of thought. She was no longer crying, though her face was stained with dried tears and her eyes were rimmed and puffy.
Kel felt his heart clench at the sight before him. He growled in annoyance of his own troublesome emotions. Mia glanced up at him with worried eyes. Kel closed his eyes in an attempt to calm himself, not wanting to frighten her again.
“Better?” he asked gesturing to her hand.
“Yeah, it's fine,” she answered quickly pulling her hand out of his grip. “What the hells wrong with you?”
“That's a good question…” he muttered running a tired hand down his face.
“Yeah, it is, so how about you answer it,” she growled, her patience reaching its breaking point.
Kel's eyes slowly narrowed into slits, his guilt quickly fading away. “Watch your tone with me, bitch. I can always break that hand again.”
Mia's mouth dropped open in shock. “How dare you talk to me like that after what you just did?!”
“I said I was sorry and healed it, didn't I?” he growled standing to his feet. Mia stood to face him, her crimson eyes glowing in fury.
“You know Kel, I don't understand why you're so pissed off,” she continued. “I didn't force your tongue down my throat. You were the one that kissed me, remember?”
“I know that,” he growled taking a threatening step towards her, but she stood her ground. “You don't understand.”
“Then fucking explain it to me like I'm five!” she yelled now directly in his face.
Kel backed her into the passenger side door, his gaze reflecting a silent warning. “Don't push me Mia…”
“Or you'll what? Break my other hand?” she scoffed, her anger clouding her better judgment.
“This fucking girl…” he fumed glowering down at her. It was then it occurred to him that he shouldn't be standing so close to her when he suddenly felt the urge to kiss her again.
“Damnit Kel, answer me when I'm fucking—” he slammed his mouth down onto hers, cutting off her rant. The kiss was urgent and desperate as his mouth devoured hers for the second time that night.
Mia's P.O.V
She tried to push him away, but he overpowered her, keeping her firmly pressed against his hard body and the car door.
“What is wrong with you!” she protested mentally, knowing that he could hear her. “Kel, stop…”
In response to her thoughts, Kel slowed the kiss but didn't stop. His tongue ran across her bottom lip, seeking permission to enter. Mia released a sigh before giving in to him. She found that resisting him was very difficult to do. This kiss was different then the last one, it was slow and passionate. He deepened it as his tongue explored every inch of her mouth. God he was a good kisser! Mia felt her knees buckle, but his arms circled her waist and held her against his body before she could fall. No man has ever had such a strong effect on her from a mere kiss. Mia found herself kissing him back with the same burning passion and intensity. They continued for what felt like hours until Kel pulled away to let her breathe.
Mia panted, trying to catch her breath and calm her racing heart. When she looked up at him, she saw that his piercing blue eyes were glazed over and darkened with lust.
“Your not gonna go all psycho on me again, are you?” she whispered, dragging her finger down his swollen lip.
“No,” Kel replied, searching her face as if trying to uncover some sort of mystery.
“Good, then can we talk about this later and just go to the dance?” she asked hopefully and added, “Please?” when he didn't reply.
Kel started at her for another moment before nodding his head. He reached behind her and opened her door. She smiled up at him before stepping in. She watched as he closed the door and walked around to the driver's side. Although she was happy about the progress they've made, minus a few details, she knew that it was going to be a long night…
Sage's P.O.V
Sage had no idea where the fuck they were and Chase wasn't in a generous enough mood to give out the details either. After he had teleported them out of the school, they reappeared near what appeared to be the ocean. As she looked around, it became clear that there wasn't anything else for miles, including life forms.
“Great, once again I'm trapped and alone with him…” She whined trailing along behind him.
“You say that like it's a bad thing,” he shot over his shoulder with a smirk, reading her mind.
“I didn't say it, I thought it and stay the fuck outta my head,” she snapped throwing a fireball at his head, which he easily dodged.
His laughter annoyed her and she suddenly felt the urge to shove his head under water and never let go.
They walked along the shore in silence. She watched as the heavy tides rolled in, the smell of salt water assaulting her nose. The moon was full tonight; its radiant light illuminated the dark night sky. Although Sage wasn't too thrilled about being alone with Chase, she had to admit that the scenery was beautiful. The stars were visible and brighter here, wherever “here” was. The wind blew, causing shivers to rock through her body. She brought her hands up to rub her arms, attempting to recapture some warmth.
“Chase, I'm cold,” she pouted in hope that he'll take her back to the dance.
“Sucks, I guess you should have put those fireballs to better use instead of wasting `em on me, huh?” came his arrogant reply.
Sage glared heatedly at him wishing she had the power to strangle him with her mind. She made a mental note to ask her Nana how to work a spell like that.
“Plotting my death?” he asked.
“Every goddamn day,” she deadpanned. “Are you gonna tell me where we are?”
“Iunno, somewhere off the eastern sea broad I think,” he replied nonchalantly.
“You think?” she said through gritted, and chattering, teeth. “What the hell did you do, close your eyes and picked a random part of the world to take me?”
“Yeah,” he admitted with a smile. “What's wrong, don't you like it?”
“Yeah, it's beautiful, but I really wanna go back now,” she said with a pleading look in her eyes.
“You mean get back to Dyne?” he asked, his voice dark and bitter as if the name had left a bad taste in his mouth. Sage stopped and stared at him with a stunned look.
“Is he really jealous?” She asked herself.
Chase's icy blue eyes peered intensely into her pale green ones. Suddenly, she burst out laughing. Chase seemed taken aback by her response for a moment before his gaze narrowed.
“What the fuck is so funny, bitch?” he scowled as she continued to laugh.
“Aw, that's so cute,” she said her tone mocking, “You're jealous.”
“Didn't we already have this conversation, woman?” he replied. “I'm not jealous of that little prick.”
“No, you're just pissed that I came with him to the dance,” she continued.
“Do I look like some little hormonal teenager to you?” he scoffed rolling his eyes.
“If you didn't want me to go with Dyne, all you had to do was ask me yourself,” she boldly stated before walking past him.
Chase arched an eyebrow and grabbed her arm, pulling her close. “Would you have said yes?” he asked his voice deepening into a husky tone.
Sage blushed a deep shade of red. “I-I…” she stuttered, suddenly nervous. She quickly turned her face away from his, regretting having ever opened her mouth in the first place. She didn't want to have these feelings for him, and was having enough trouble burying them without him making things more complicated.
She shivered again as the wind picked up. Suddenly, Chase stepped away from her, the warmth of his body lost as the cold assaulted her. She looked at him curiously, and was surprised to see him tug off his blazer and drape it around her shivering shoulders. Sage tugged the jacket closer to her body and blinked up at him as he turned his face.
She smiled at the simple gesture. “You know…you can be really sweet sometimes.”
“Don't get use to it,” he replied before causally grabbing her hand, tugging her along behind him. Sage smiled as she gazed down at their joined hands, curling her fingers around his. For some reason, it felt like it belonged there.
Chase's P.O.V
The only thing worse then acting like a pussy, is being aware that you are acting like pussy. Chase had no idea why he was acting so out of character tonight, but he couldn't help it. Every time he thought of some new and creative way to torment the witch, he ended up doing something nice. He had originally planned to teleport them somewhere that would piss her off, like Mt. Everest, but he ended up taking her to the fucking ocean. Which ocean, he wasn't sure, but that really didn't matter right now. When he was away from her, he felt like his normal, cocky self. But when he was around her, he felt like he did that night in the kitchen when this whole shit started. But that wasn't the worst part. No, the worst part was that he didn't really mind what he was feeling because it wasn't completely awful.
Truthfully, the only reason they were walking along some god awful beach, holding hands like some sappy couple, was simply because he didn't want Dyne's filthy hands touching what was his.
“Mine? Where the fuck did that come from…?” His thoughts drifted as he glanced at the witch from the corner of his eye. “I need to stop this shit before my dick falls off. She does look good in my jacket though…Fuck! Stop it!”
He snapped out of his thoughts when Sage snuggled closer to his side, wrapping her arm around his as they walked.
“Shouldn't you be meeting up with Kel soon?” she asked her tone light.
“Anxious to be rid of me, witch?” he said arching a brow. Sage rolled her eyes.
“I never said that, don't be emotional.” Chase growled at the comment. As if it wasn't bad enough that he thought he had somehow, magically, developed a menstrual cycle, but now even the witch thought he was being emotional.
“Just figured he might be looking for you is all,” she continued, ignoring his obvious irritation.
“Kel would call if he needed me,” Chase replied just as the mental link he shared with his brother opened.
“Speak of the devil.” He thought. “Where the fuck has your head been all night, between Mia's legs?”
“Long story,” Kel replied purposely ignoring the jab. “Where are you?”
“Eastern sea broad,” Chase answered.
“Long story?” Kel sent back, filling in the blanks.
“Long story,” Chase confirmed.
“Well get back here, we got work to do.”
“On my way,” the link closed.
“C'mon, let's get back,” Chase said. Before Sage could reply, the two were already standing by the lockers they disappeared from. The music from the gym filled their ears. They walked back into the dance, spotting Kel and Mia sitting at the table with a stoic looking Dyne.
“Told you he wouldn't move,” Chase said to the witch, receiving a cold glare in return. After making their way towards the table, Chase took his seat between Kel and the Sage, who occupied herself with checking on Dyne, much to his distain.
“Why'd you compel him?” Kel asked.
“I don't like him,” Chase replied as if the answer should have been obvious. Kel nodded his head in understanding, not in the mood to question his brother's ethnics. It was then Chase noticed something off about his brother. His eyes searched Kel's face as if trying to deceiver something. Kel kept fidgeting and glancing around the room as if expecting to be ambushed by Martians.
“What's crawled up your ass this time? Chase questioned. Kel seemed slightly taken aback by the question as he regarded his older brother.
“What? Nothing,” he replied, though his uneasiness told Chase otherwise. Chase's eyes widened in realization.
“It happened to you too, didn't it?” he hissed, his gaze narrowing in suspicion.
“Well…” Kel drawled slowly. Chase cocked an eyebrow as if urging him to continue. “Kinda.”
“I knew it!” Chase exclaimed, earning him a hard punch in the arm. “Ow, Bitch!”
“Keep your voice down!” Kel whispered in a hushed tone.
“I told your punk-ass that I wasn't fucking crazy!” Chase continued to gloat.
“Well, good for you! Got any bright ideas as to why this is happening, oh genius brother of mine?”
“Hey I'm just glad I'm not the only one it's happening to,” Chase declared with a grin, earning him another hard blow, this time to his kneecap. His leg jolted from the pain, slamming into the bottom of the table and causing it to rock.
“Stop hitting me!”
“Stop being a dick!”
“Will you two shut up!” Sage intervened. “And can someone please fix my date?”
“No.”
“Chase!”
“Fine,” Chase rolled his eyes before snapping his fingers. Dyne instantly snapped out of his trance, his attention falling on Sage.
“Hey, want some punch?” he asked with a bright smile as if nothing had transpired earlier.
Sage blinked. “Um, sure.” As Dyne made his way over to the buffet table, Chase chuckled softly to himself, but stopped when he felt a sting in his side. The witch burned him from the inside.
“Alright, the next person who tries to physically hurt me is getting punched in their fucking face!” he growled, pinning both Sage and Kel with a hard look, and Mia just to be safe. All three of them rolled their eyes at him.
“What took you guys so long anyways?” Sage asked turning her attention to Mia, who blushed profusely. Chase smirked as Kel remained passive with his eyes closed and arms crossed over his chest.
“I gotta go to the bathroom,” Mia announced before springing to her feet and grabbing Sage's hand, dragging her along. Chase raised a brow.
“What is that, girl code?”
“Seems like,” Kel deadpanned, his eyes scanning the room until landing on the two hell-spawns standing off to the side of the dance floor. “We should mingle.”
Chase followed his brother's gaze until he spotted Ace and Tage. They had two girls with them, both appearing to be humans. “Great, I'll check in on dumb and dumber, you take the dog-squad.” Kel nodded as they both stood and made a beeline towards the two separate groups.
It was going to be a very long night…
