Chapter 22: When the Shit Hits the Fan
Kel's P.O.V
The room remained silent as Scar and Chase stood toe-to-toe. Chase couldn't seem to keep the shit-eating grin off his face. He was enjoying pissing these demons off way too much.
“Forgive my brother,” Kel stated casually, clearly his throat. “He was dropped on his head as a child.”
Kai gazed intensely at Kel, his cold expression unfazed by the commotion. “Stand down, Scar.”
“What?” Scar spat over his shoulder in disbelief.
“Now.” he ordered.
The dog demon shot Chase another glower before shoving him back against the wall and slowly stepping back in line beside his brother.
“Geezz,” Chase drawled. “Can't you guys take a joke?” A chorus of arrogant scoffs echoed through the room.
“Real smooth, jackass,” Kel hissed telepathically.
“I'm only playing along cause I don't wanna deal with your bitch-face. I still say we handle this now,” Chase insisted.
“No, I think there's something else going on in this world and I'm not in the mood for anymore surprises.”
“Well we can't lie, so how we gonna bullshit our way outta this one?” Chase questioned, sparing his brother a quick glance.
“Well?” Kai spoke waiting for a reply. “I don't like repeating myself.”
“I'm sorry, what was the question?” Chase quip, smiling sheepishly. Kel released an irritated sigh at his brother's antics as several growls sounded throughout the room.
“The truth is,” Kel intervened. “My brother and I are merely passing through. We have no intention of staying in this town much longer.”
“Well, it's not a complete lie…” Chase mused to himself.
“That wasn't the question,” came the demon's even reply. “Who are you?”
“I thought you didn't like repeating yourself?”
“Chase!” Kel scolded.
“What? That's what he said!” he shot back in defense, smirk still in place.
Scar swiftly shot forward, his claws wrapping around Chase's throat before slamming him into the wall. “I've had enough of you!” he growled menacingly, eyes flashing red.
Kel didn't flinch from his position, but rather kept his gaze locked on the boss.
“You think you're such a fucking tough guy, don't you? Well let's see how long you last against me,” Scar seethed through clenched teeth, his fangs extending to overlap his bottom lip. The smirk dropped from Chase's face the second his back collided with the wall.
“I don't like being man-handled by other dudes,” he deadpanned, his voice quiet. “Take your hands off me.”
“Is this how you welcome new comers into your town, through harassment and intimidation?” Kel asked dryly arching an eyebrow. Several demons stood, crowding around behind Kai in a protective stance. “You invite us into your home and request our presence. Then your brother pins my brother to a wall? Not very courteous.”
“Courteous?” Kai replied, his deadly calm tone reflecting Kel's. “You have yet to answer a question I've now asked of you twice. You take up residence in my territory without my permission for weeks. You assault one of my men and disrespect both me and my brother within the time frame of 10 minutes. Yet, you dare speak of courtesy to me?” The demon ducked his head, a smile tugging the corner of his lips as he adjusted his tie.
Kel's fists clenched at his sides, a sign of him struggling to keep his own temper in check.
“Insignificant maggots…” he seethed to himself.
Chase had yet to make a move against Scar, who still had him pinned to the wall. He watched as Kel's hair shadowed over his eyes. His brother despised being talked down to like a child, and by a weaker being no less.
“Well boo-fucking-woo for you,” Chase laughed outright, looking past Scar to gaze at Kai. “We're so sorry we hurt your feelings, princess—
Kel's head snapped up as a loud thud silenced his brother. He turned in time to see Chase's face turned inward toward the wall, his check slightly red. Scar punched him.
Chase's P.O.V
“Don't snap, don't snap, don't snap…” he chanted to himself, trying desperately to tamper down the surge of rage and power threatening to break free.
“I think it's about time you learned some respect, boy!” Scar snarled in his face.
Chase slowly turned his head to look at the creature in front of him, his expression a mask of indifference.
“I think you both owe Kai an apology,” Stefan added in a matter of fact tone, one of the few demons who had yet to rise from their seats.
Chase shot Kel a knowing look, who then nodded in reply.
He smirked down at Scar. “You're right” he admitted before violently head-butting the dog demon, sending him crashing to the ground.
“We are sorry, aren't we Kel?” Chase said strengthening out the crinkles in his jacket from the rough treatment it just received. Kai remained seated as his little minions rushed forward, but froze mid-step before reaching Scar.
“Yes, we're sorry this couldn't go more smoothly. But I'm afraid we simply can not cooperate with your kind,” Kel continued, his gaze never leaving Kai's golden orbs.
The demon glanced around at his men, irritation seeping into his stoic expression. “What are you doing? Attack them!” he ordered as the others remained frozen where they stood. Scar lifted his head from the floor, blood pouring from his nose.
“You fucking bastard!” he spat. “You broke my nose!”
Chase walked forward, staring blankly down at the demon. “Don't be ridiculous,” he scoffed before landing a swift kick towards Scar's face, sending him flying past his comrades, crashing through the table and into the far wall.
Chase flashed a cocky grin. “Now it's broken.”
“W-we can't move…” Shawn muttered, his panic gaze reaching Kia and Stefan.
“What the hell are you?!” the snake demon, Python, demanded straining against his invisible restraints, causing his veins to bulge beneath his skin.
Kai finally stood, looking back at his brother struggling to regain his balance, pushing away debris from the now shattered table.
Chase winced mockingly. “I hope that wasn't expensive.”
“Kai…” Scar heaved coughing up blood.
“I gotta say, if these guys are your body guards you should really look into firing them,” Chase mused leaning his arm against Kel's shoulder.
“Impressive,” Kai replied calmly. What are you?”
“Out of your league,” Kel replied confidently, lifting all eight demons into the air and slamming them into the wall behind Scar. More debris drifted down from the cracks.
“W-what the fuck?” Nas choked out as the air left his lungs.
“How is this possible?” Ray growled trying in vein to regain the freedom to move his own body parts. “How are they doing this?”
“Enough!” Kai growled. His eyes turning crimson red as his face half morphed, taking on the appearance of a savage dog.
“State your business!” he demanded, his voice dropping a few octaves.
Chase looked at the demon as if he were retarded. “I thought I already did. We're higher beings from another world here to destroy you.”
Kai's claws extended, taking on the form of a whip, dripping green with poison. He swung his hand back and lashed it towards both brothers. Chase held his arm out to shield his face, allowing the whip to wrap around his forearm. His skin sizzled as the poison burned its way through his arm. The smell of his burning flesh assaulted his nose.
“Son of a bitch—” he growl snaking his arm around to grab the whip, yanking Kai towards him.
Kel turned his head in time to see Scar lunge at him, sending them both barreling through the door and into the hallway. The music downstairs was too loud to draw anyone's attention. The other demons continued struggling against the wall to no avail.
Chase palmed a large fire ball in his hand, hurling it towards Kai, but he swiftly side-stepped the attack and landed a clean punch to Chase's jaw, the blow sending him crashing into a glass cabinet. The demon hovered over him, his face contorted. Kai pulled back his jagged claws, readying to deliver the final blow when Chase held up his right hand, sending a streak of lightening into his opponent's chest. Kai grunted as the blue lightening engulfed his entire body and sent him soaring through the 5-story window. Chase teleported from the room, reappearing in the backyard below Kai, who was currently falling mid-air. People screamed and scattered away from the falling glass. As he continued falling, the demon's eyes snapped open and caught himself before hitting the ground, doing a back flip away from Chase. Demons and humans stood off to the side to watch the scene unfold. Kai landed in a crouched position a few yards away from Chase.
“There's no need to make this difficult,” Chase offered loud enough for him to hear. “Just surrender and hear what we have to say and maybe we won't kill you all.”
“I'd like to see you try,” Kai snarled as his body began to shift and change. Chase watched the demon with intense curiosity. More people cleared the area, as if anticipating what was about to happen. Chase bounced with excitement. The thrill of battle always enticed him like a drug. He was feeling giddy already. He watched with fascination as Kai transformed into a monstrous, giant white dog.
“Holy shit…” he stared wide-eyed at the creature that now towered over the mansion.
“Dude, you're totally like your own mountain!” Chase mused up at the demon, who roared in reply. He jumped back out of the way when a giant paw tried to squash him. He repeatedly dodged attacks left and right, all a mixture of fangs and claws. Hell, even the bastard's tail was pretty fucking lethal. Chase flew into the sky to avoid anymore more attacks, grinning in triumph as the giant mutt stared up at him with blazing red eyes. But his grin fell when the creature decided to join him up in the clouds.
“A flying dog…where's a camera when you need it,” he chuckled dodging another attack from a now pissed off dog demon.
“C'mere Lassie!” Chase whistled mockingly with a foolish grin, allowing the demon to follow him through the sky. He then came to an abrupt halt, turning to face the mutt. Chase's eyes were now pitch black with red and purple veins pulsing under his skin. His face held a twisted smile as he flicked his wrist, emitting a blast of invisible force that sent the dog spiraling down towards the lake beneath them. Kai hit the water, the splash creating a small tsunami. Chase hovered far above the lake and held out both hands, shooting a mixture of lightening and energy balls down below. The energy balls penetrated the water, hitting its target, while the lightening charged the surface.
The water crackled with electric energy. Moments later, the demon slowly crawled out onto the shore. Chase enforced a barrier around the beast, restricting its movements. It struggled for a while with what little energy it had left before falling to the ground in exhaustion. Chase flew down onto the ground. He stood with his arms crossed, staring pointedly at the demon.
“Well, now that we've established who the top dog is, you ready to listen, boy?”
The dog growled but made no move to retaliate.
“Good doggy.”
Kel's P.O.V
“You'll pay for this…” Scar wheezed out between clenched teeth.
“Is that right?” Kel replied dryly, tightening his hold around the demon's neck.
“Yeah, Kai probably already killed your brother, and then you're fucking next!”
“Wrong again,” Kel deadpanned catching the demon's gaze. Suddenly, Scar screamed out in agony as an excruciating pain erupted in his head.
“What are you doing to him!?” Shawn yelled from his position against the wall. Kel whipped his head around to lock his penetrating black gaze onto the other demon.
“Aggghhhh!” Shawn screamed throwing his head back against the wall in pain, instantly breaking out into a cold sweat.
“Stop it! He's just a child! I'm the one you want, you dick!” Scar yelled.
Kel tortured Shawn a while longer before turning his attention back to the demon in his grasp. “First of all, I don't want any of you and second,” he glanced back at Shawn. “A child? Really? He's fucking bigger then the rest of you,” he scoffed slightly amused.
“I eat my vegetables,” Shawn retorted between breaths.
“Not the time to be a smartass,” Nas hissed nervously at the younger demon.
“I agree,” Kel added before tossing Scar to the ground near the others.
“What the hell do you want?” Stefan asked with narrowed eyes.
“World peace,” he deadpanned taking a seat in one of the chairs, propping his feet up on what little was left of the table.
“Listen here you sonofva—”
“Silence!” Kel demanded in a firm voice. All nine demons now found they were unable to speak as a chorus of “hmm's” echoed through the room.
“So I just fought a giant flying mutt, how bout you?”
Kel turned to see Chase floating in through the broken window with a burned Kai close behind, trapped within a barrier.
“Just waiting on you,” he replied in a bored tone.
Chase grinned sheepishly before dropping Kai beside his brother, the electricity around the barrier shocking both of them slightly. The demons stared in disbelief at their captured leader.
“Now that we've got everyone's attention,” Chase piped cheerfully. “Let's get down to it, shall we?”
Sage's P.O.V
“So, you're a senior?” the blue-eyed blonde asked with a dimpled smile.
“Yes”, Sage blushed taking a sip of her coffee. She glanced at Mia over the rim of her cup, sitting in the lap of a smoking hot fox demon with the most gorgeous deep green eyes she had ever seen.
“Whose idea was this…?” she thought before realizing it was her idea to find Mia a distraction from Kel. Little did she know that distraction would come in identical, muscular, 6 foot 4 packages.
After coming up with plan “Make Kel Jealous”, Sage watched as Mia took several more shots after poorly deciding she wasn't drunk enough. Sage had to, literally, pry the shot glass from her friend's hand and force her out the door, declaring the party over. On they're way out they bumped into this guy that took a shine to Mia and she, being as drunk as she was, immediately switched into flirt mode. So when Mr. tall, dark and handsome invited them to grab a bite to eat with him and his friend, Mia agreed before Sage could object to leaving the party with two strange demons. Now they were sitting in a diner on the outskirts of town, drinking coffee and eating pie with two guys who were under the impression that they were seniors…in college. Mia hadn't bothered to correct the mistake, so Sage just left it alone.
“What's your major?” the blue-eyed demon asked. Sage had yet to ask for his name, mainly because she didn't care. It wasn't like she planned on pursuing a relationship with Blondie anyways. She already had enough to deal with…
“Um, English,” She blurted hoping it was a “college” thing to say. Across from her, Mia giggled as the fox demon nibbled on her neck.
“Your friend seems to be having a good time,” he smirked nodding towards the couple in question. “You don't look like you're having a good time though.”
Sage forced a smile; something about these two didn't sit right with her. “Long day, I'm just tired.”
“Well if you girls are tired,” the green-eyed fox smirked. “We can always go back to my place.”
“Actually, I think we should get going soon…” Sage directed towards Mia, shooting her a serious look.
“Aww, why so soon?” Mia slurred with hooded red eyes, clearly still drunk.
“Yeah, why so soon?” the blonde repeated moving in closer to Sage, his hand resting on her thigh.
She scooted out of the booth as if it were on fire and tugged on her coat. “Because you're drunk and Chase and Kel are probably looking for us.”
Mia scrunched her face in digest. “Fuck them.”
“Yeah, fuck them,” green eyes replied relocating his spot on Mia's neck.
“Who are they, your boyfriends?” Blondie asked arching a brow.
“Yes—No.” Sage and Mia replied in union. Sage glowered down at the panther demon. She was making it really difficult for them to leave and it was almost 2 a.m.
“Tell your girl to stop being a buzz-kill,” the fox muttered into Mia's ear before nibbling on it.
“I am so about to go all Blaire Witch on his ass,” Sage thought on the verge of losing her patience.
“Why don't we just hang out for a little while longer,” Blondie insisted. “Maybe go for a walk?”
“I have a better idea,” Sage said with a bright smile before yanking Mia off the guy's lap. “We're leaving.”
“Okay,” Mia hiccupped too drunk to even protest.
“Hey, why don't you relax,” the fox demon snapped gripping Sage by the arm.
“Let go of me!” she yelled discharging a blast of power that sent the demon flying backwards into the booth. Both men stared back at her wide-eyed, along with everyone else in the diner.
Sage released a nervous laugh before storming out of the diner, dragging Mia along behind her. She pushed open the exist door and walked out into the crisp, cool night air.
Mia giggled. “That was awesome!”
Sage rolled her eyes, “I'm glad you think so, now how are we gonna get home? Those guys brought us here.”
“Oh, oh, I know!” Mia declared bouncing with excitement. “Let's go find a broom and you can make it fly!”
“Witches don't actually fly on brooms, Mia,” she sighed. She could feel her eyes burning from sheer exhaustion. Everything from feeding Chase this morning, going to the dance, dealing with Chase once again, going to the after party, and now this has left her completely drained. And, for some reason, she was feeling lightheaded, but blamed that on her current desperate need for sleep.
“God, I just want my bed…” she whined as they walked along the sidewalk looking for a gas station so she can call someone to come get them.
“You're more then welcome to use the bed at my place, baby.”
Sage whipped around only to come face to face with the two guys from the diner. A scowl appeared on her face. “What are you, following us now?”
“We're just looking for a good time,” the blonde answered with a secretive grin.
“Then go play with each other, we're not interested,” she retorted and turned to leave when the green eyed one moved to block her path.
“If you don't move I swear—”
“You'll what?” the demon grinned. “Use your little witchy powers?”
Sage glared heatedly back and forth between the two men. She wasn't surprised they knew she was a witch, since most demons could smell it a mile away. Plus, her little demonstration in the diner surely gave her anyway.
“You wanna know something interesting about you witches?” the blonde said stepping behind them, blocking any means to an escape. “Your powers become useless if you're too disorientated to call on them.”
“What are you—” she began to question when suddenly her head began to swing.
“Sage? What's wrong?” Mia asked with panic laced in her voice. She was far too drunk to fight off two demons on her own, and if something was wrong with Sage then they were really screwed.
“I-I don't know, I—” it became difficult to form words, suddenly she felt like the intoxicated one.
“I slipped something into your coffee when I brought it to you,” the blonde admitted with a digesting grin. “Don't worry; it's just a mild sedative.”
“Well I can just guess what his major is,” Sage thought sarcastically.
“Now, where were we…” the fox grinned as he advanced on Mia.
“Get away from me!” Mia shoved against him but lost her own balance in the process, tumbling to the ground. The demon crawled on top of her and grabbed her hands, pinning them above her head.
“Stop!” Sage yelled stumbling over to help her friend when a pair of arms encircled her waist.
“Me and you are gonna have some fun while they play,” the blonde chuckled darkly, locking her arms behind her back.
Sage tried to focus her power enough to conjure something, anything, but her mind wouldn't function properly. At this point, she couldn't bend a frigging spoon if her life depended on it. Her future rapist laughed at her struggles.
“Don't bother, it won't work. You don't even have the strength to scream.”
He was right. She couldn't bring herself to talk much less call for help, and who would hear them? Although she couldn't see her, she could hear Mia's protests, but the panther demon was so drunk she sounded like she might pass out soon.
“Fuck…” tears stung Sage's eyes as she felt the demon's grubby hands caress her thighs. “I'm about to get raped.” Suddenly Chase's face flashed through her mind. He's threatened to rape her countless times, yet she never felt this terrified before. Chase always managed to turn her on someone, even when he was being the rough asshole that he is. But she liked it…because she liked him. But this…
The demon began pushing her dress up with one hand while hastily unfastening his pants with the other. She felt dirty. Mia was so drunk she probably wouldn't remember any of this, but Sage would. The bastard grabbed her chin and forced his mouth onto hers, his tongue sliding down her throat. She nearly gagged in digest, resisting the urge to vomit. So she did the only thing she still had the power to do. She bit his tongue with all the strength she could muster, enough to draw blood. The blonde yelped in pain and spat the blood from his mouth.
“You bitch!” he snarled backhanding her across the face. She grunted has her head collided with the pavement. She glanced over at Mia to see the fox demon still struggling to take off her clothes.
“Humph,” Sage scoffed to herself. “Virgins. Can't fucking get laid any other way.”
She wanted to scream bloody murder when she felt his hand brush against the hem of her panties, but nothing louder then grunts of protest escaped her lips. Everything was spinning so fast, she knew she would lose consciousness any minute now…
Suddenly, the wind picked up and a distant howl echoed beyond the darkness. No one paid it any mind, taking it for a dog or wolf. But then the sound got louder and closer.
“Hey, you hear that?” the fox demon asked his friend, ceasing his assault on Mia.
“It's probably a dog or something?” the blonde replied slightly irritated by the interruption over something so trivial.
The wind picked up, blowing violently as if a hurricane was coming. It lashed against the trees, breaking branches as birds flew away.
Both men turned their faces to avoid the sea of leaves that whipped against their skin. “What the fuck, is the witch doing this?”
“No, I drugged her remember,” the blonde assured his friend. Both demons suddenly scanned their surroundings as if sensing something. Although Sage was drugged, she could feel a dark presence near by and it was approaching them fast. A part of her drugged induced brain prayed for it to be Chase, but what she was sensing didn't feel like him. She always knew when Chase was near and this wasn't one of those times.
Everything went by in slow motion. Sage didn't know whether it was real or not. She heard Mia scream as a ferocious growl ripped through the air.
“Ted!” the blonde screamed scrambling off of Sage at lightening speed. But as quickly as he left, she saw his body fly over hers followed by a black and red blur.
“Chase…” she whispered as her world went black.
