Quilted Soul's
Have you ever hugged your pillow at night wondering why you feel so alone? Curled up under the covers almost as if trying to bring some kind of warmth to yourself? Sat in one place long enough staring into space with a constant train of thoughts all relating to wondering where you went wrong? Felt tears fill your eyes but not really sure if the reason is because you feel lonely or because you feel rejected and betrayed by everyone you have ever met? If your answer to any of these questions is yes then I will say you are not alone. Not by a long shot.
Whenever you come across another person so desperate are you to feel some kind of connection to another person, to feel listened to, to feel cared for and even understood that you blank out the most obvious problem...connections must be made tentatively. You can't simply ask someone to love you and then be loved; you can't reach out and embrace a stranger. You certainly won't be accepted that way at all but you know that you don't have the time to wait for them to take all of your essence in and make a decision. You don't have the time because your already shattered heart is breaking again and again until all your left with is particles of dust, left out in the cold and forgotten.
Perhaps the soul is similar to your heart; it is torn up every day only to be patched together every night while you sleep, sleep as if you’re recovering from this damage to your soul but your heart is beyond repair until you cross someone who is the same as you. Someone who is as broken and as alone as you are, scrambling around society looking for a love that isn't even a perfect love but they know just a little taste of it will keep them going until they find potential love again.
Imagine if you will a star filled sky at midnight seen from the clearing of a wide but flourishing forest. In the middle of this clearing is what appears to be a tent of sorts. The shape matches that of a tent but instead of canvas it is made out of glass, not even complete sheets of glass but shards of glass all in different colours. You stand before this tent and a warmth draws you closer to its entrance and soon you are lured inside sitting there alone you look up at the roof of the glassy pieced together tent nervously knowing any moment this delicate structure could break. Just like your heart and soul. Soon another is stood outside this tent, seeing you inside their eyes fill with hope and they bite their lip almost bashfully but just as you were before they are lured inside the tent, perhaps even easier knowing you are already there.
So now there are two of you inside this fragile glass tent, the rays of moonlight streaming through the coloured glass bathing you both as well as the ground below you in colourful lights, you both are nervous but after small talk and a brush of skin again skin from a misplaced hand during a shift in position you are both glued to each other and taking each other’s breath away. Eyes taking in each other thankfully, hands caressing skin desperately, noises made wantonly until you are both connected completely and utterly together. Hearts slowly forming inside from previously decaying dust while your souls wind around each other, whisper through each other and remake each other for that brief moment in time when you are both feeling alive again.
Then just as soon as it all happens it all ends, the other now gone, leaving you naked as the day you were born alone again inside the tent, door left open bringing a draft through that chills you to the bone. They gained confidence from the moments connection they made with you and have gone in search of a larger much stronger connection without even as much as a "I loved you".
This is the reoccurring fate for most of us who are as I previously mentioned...broken and alone but for some of us there will be someone who with either an already shattered heart or with a damaged or complete one will come along and wrap a blanket around us to keep us just that bit warmer and stay with us even if the glass should shatter upon us. They will bare this for us as we will for them and when that day comes, if that day comes and you meet this beautifully souled person then you can finally start to heal and stop going to sleep so cold and alone.
