Serena Hunter walked off school campus growling under her breath. Serena was sixteen years old with black hair and amethyst purple eyes. She was wearing a pair of black baggy jeans, a black t-shirt, and a pair of combat boots. The reason she was growling was because of a recent school assignment. She had to write a report on her favorite mythical creature. 'I don't want to write about a mythical creature. I live with two of them.'
Serena was half way home when she ran into somebody. She looked up at the person from her place on the ground. She instantly recognized him. "Lucius Blood, the one who killed my parents," she thought. Lucius was a man of 6' 5". He had dark brown hair and his eyes were so dark they were almost black. "I'm sorry sir," she said, "I wasn't watching where I was going."
"It's quite alright miss." Lucius replied.
Serena stood up and brushed herself off and walking around Lucius. As soon as she reached the crosswalk she started running. "I have to tell Desmond and dad," she thought. She ran the rest of the way home and into the door. "Dad, we've got trouble!" She yelled. Virgil Hunter, her adoptive father walked into the front room. He and Desmond were werewolves who had been watching over Serena since she was five. Virgil had dirty blonde hair and blue eyes while Desmond had black hair and crimson eyes. They were both about 6' 10".
"What do you mean we've got trouble Serena?" Virgil asked. Desmond had walked into the room and was watching Serena.
"I just ran into Lucius Blood on my way home." Serena replied.
Desmond growled and walked upstairs. Serena watched him and sighed.
"Serena, go upstairs and pack a weeks worth of clothes into a duffel bag. We leave this house in half an hour whether you're ready or not." Virgil said. Serena nodded and ran upstairs to her room. Desmond was leaving his room and joined her.
"Are you alright Serena?" He asked.
"No not really. I didn't think I would ever see him again." Serena replied as she zipped her duffel bag closed. She suddenly turned and looked at Desmond.
"He's on this block. We have to go now." Serena whispered.
Desmond picked her up and grabbed her duffel bag. He ran down the stairs as he yelled, "Virgil we need to get out of here now! She can sense him!"
Desmond, still carrying Serena, ran outside with Virgil. Desmond climbed into the back of their van as Virgil got into the driver's seat and started the car. Desmond pulled Serena closer to his chest as he sat down on the floor of the car. Virgil started the car and they drove off the block at a normal speed. Right as they got off the block Lucius was walking up to the house. "So they've run. They won't be able to elude me for long." He thought.
Desmond climbed up onto the seats as they reached the interstate. He was still holding Serena to his chest. "Where are we going Virgil?" Desmond asked.
"We're going to our cabin. We'll probably have a few days before he finds us there. By then though we won't be there anymore, our final destination is an old friend's house," Virgil replied. Desmond set Serena on the seat next to him and looked her in the eye. Serena looked down at her lap, but Desmond pulled her face up so she was looking at him again. "I won't let anything happen to Serena. Virgil won't let anything happen either." He said.
"Yeah I know, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm scared. He killed my parents Desmond, and now he's after me." Serena replied. Desmond wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on her head. Serena began crying and latched onto Desmond's shirt. For hours Desmond watched the landscape pass by while Serena kept her face buried into his shirt. "How much more time do we have until we reach the cabin Virgil?" Desmond asked.
"We've still got half a day to go, so just sit tight will you." Virgil replied. Desmond shut his mouth after that. Serena let go of his shirt and looked out of the window. Desmond wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his lap.
"Are you feeling any better Serena?" Desmond asked.
"Not really. If anything I feel even worse than I did." Serena replied as she rested her head on his shoulder. Desmond kissed her right temple and rested his chin on her shoulder. It was 6:00 a.m. by the time they reached the cabin. Serena walked inside, half asleep on her feet. When she tripped over her own feet, Desmond caught her and carried her to her bedroom. He laid her down on the bed and tucked her in. He kissed her forehead before leaving the room and shutting the door behind him. Desmond sighed as he walked to the living room to sit with Virgil. "How long are we staying here Virgil? Don't give me a lie saying we're going to an old friend's house." Desmond said.
"We're here for as long as we can be here. I don't know how easily Lucius is going to find this place." Virgil replied. Desmond nodded and looked back towards Serena's room.
"Serena is really scared. She tries to hide it but I can see through the façade." Desmond whispered.
"When you've seen the vampire that killed your entire family before your very eyes when you were just seven years old, you're going to be scared. She's hiding because she doesn't want us to worry about her." Virgil replied. Desmond just nodded. As the night progressed Desmond and Virgil began to play card games to pass the time. Desmond froze as Serena's scream pierced the silence. He was up in a flash running to her room. When he opened her door he found her sitting on her bed with her arms wrapped around her waist. Desmond walked into the room and Serena spotted him. She got up and ran to him, throwing her arms around his torso. Desmond sighed and picked her up. Serena rested her head on his shoulder and watched the door. Desmond sat down on her bed and set her in his lap. He wrapped a blanket around them and kissed Serena's temple. "What happened love?" He asked.
"I saw my family's murder again. Only it had a different ending. Lucius killed me." Serena replied.
"Sleep now love, I'll be here for you."
Serena nodded and drifted back to sleep. Virgil walked into the room and looked for an explanation from Desmond. "She had a nightmare, about that day." Desmond said. Virgil nodded and left the room. It was the next morning and Desmond and Virgil had gone to get groceries. Serena was alone in the cabin reading a graphic novel. She looked up from her book when she heard a knock on the door. She walked towards the door and screamed when it was kicked in. Lucius walked into the cabin and grabbed her by the arm before dragging her outside. When he was a short distance away from the house he lashed out at Serena with his claws leaving five long gashes across her stomach. Serena screamed in pain as he pushed her to the ground. "You'll join your family soon. Give them my regards," he said as he began walking away. Serena curled up into a ball on the ground. "Desmond, Virgil, I'll miss you guys." She whispered to no one. Desmond and Virgil had just gotten back to the cabin when they heard Serena's scream. Desmond ran towards the source and soon found Serena. He gently picked her up and cradled her to his chest. Virgil growled and turned into a large wolf. He picked up the scent trail Lucius had left behind and followed it. Meanwhile Desmond was trying to get Serena to open her eyes. "Come on love, you need to wake up. Come on." He whispered as he rocked back and forth. Serena's eyes opened slowly and she tried to focus on Desmond. "Desmond?" She asked.
"Yes love, it's me. Listen closely, alright love. I'm going to bite you and it's going to hurt a lot. However it's going to turn you into a werewolf. Do you understand love?" He asked. Serena nodded. Desmond lifted her so she was sitting in his lap and licked her neck before sinking his fangs into her neck. Serena screamed in pain and struggled to get away, but Desmond only held her tighter. He released her neck and licked the wound clean. He watched as it closed up and the gashes on her stomach healed. He sighed when her scent changed slightly, showing that she was werewolf. Serena was asleep with her head leaning on his shoulder. Desmond stood up and followed after Virgil. As he neared a clearing he heard Lucius's final scream of pain as Virgil ripped him to shreds. Virgil left the clearing as a human and looked a Serena. "How is she doing?" He asked.
"I changed her, she'll be fine." Desmond replied.
"Get her to the van, I'll grab our things and we'll go home."
Desmond nodded and carried Serena to the van. She opened her eyes and looked up at Desmond. "We're going home love. Lucius is dead and won't bother you again." He said. Serena nodded then asked, "Is it okay to sleep."
"Yes love, it's okay to sleep."
Serena's eyes slid shut and Desmond climbed into the van. Not ten minutes later they were all on their way home.
