Chapter Two
Old Memories: Returned

Kirk woke up in the middle of the night, to footsteps outside his bedroom window. He got up, got dressed and looked outside.
He just barely saw Rebecca run by, but he reacted quickly. He ran to his front door and chased after Rebecca.

‘Where is she going this late at night?’ Kirk thought questioningly. He kept running after Rebecca until she stopped at the Rock River Bridge.
Kirk did his best to follow her down under the bridge and when he got down, he was shocked to say the least. A pure gold carriage was under the bridge. It seemed to be waiting for something or someone. The horse pulling the carriage was a silver stallion and the design of the carriage was just breathtaking. Kirk watched in amazement as Rebecca stepped into the carriage.

“To Novus Vita Medius.” Were the words Kirk heard her say. And after she said them, the carriage took off; into the sky. Kirk exhaled a breath he did not know he was holding.

“What just happened? Where did Rebecca go?” Kirk asked himself. The love of his life had just left him and he had no idea if she was going to come back.
Kirk chose not to worry and headed back home, but the haunting dreams just wouldn’t leave him alone.

----/The Next Morning With Kirk\----

Kirk woke up to the smell of food. But surprisingly, he wasn’t hungry. He was still too worried about Rebecca to think about anything else.
His door opened and in came Katie.

“Hey KJ, it’s time to get up. Breakfast is ready.” He didn’t move “KJ! Breakfast time!” Katie screamed. Kirk still made no move to get up. Katie seethed with anger.
That was it; she was bringing in the dog.

“Oh Kringle!” Katie hollered. And soon a black Pomeranian ran into Kirk’s room. Kringle jumped onto Kirk’s bed and licked all over his face.
Kirk’s eyes shot open and he leaped out of bed.

“Katie, out of my room!” Kirk shouted. Katie stuck her tongue out at him and he slammed the door after she left.
But the peace was soon disturbed. Kirk heard a knock at his door.

“Hey KJ, are you ok?” Tori asked through the door.

“No Tori, I’m not. Just go away.” Kirk whispered gloomily. But Tori went in anyway.
She saw the defeat in her brother’s eyes and felt sympathy for him.

“KJ, what happened?” Tori asked sitting down on his bed. She patted the seat next to her and he sat down next to Tori.

“Becca, she’s…….. gone.” Kirk replied. Tori’s eyes widened. Rebecca had left?

“Did she say goodbye?” Tori wondered. Kirk shook his head and let go of a shaky breath.

“I saw her run by our house last night and followed her. She ran all the way to the Rock River Bridge and then got into a carriage.
The carriage then took off to the sky without leaving a trace.” Kirk said truthfully.

“Are you sure it wasn’t just a dream?” Tori asked. A tear fell from Kirk’s eye. Tori hugged Kirk and rocked him back and forth.

“KJ, this came in the mail for you, it’s from Becca.” Tori said. She handed him a letter in which he took hurriedly.
Kirk ripped the envelope open and pulled out the letter. The letter said:

Dear Kirk,
I wanted to write you this letter so you wouldn’t worry about me. But now I’ve chosen to tell you why I left, and I mean everything from the beginning to the end.
It all started when I was 11 years old, I witnessed a brutal crime. And now two people are after me. They want to kidnap and kill me. But that’s not the point.
The point is, for the past three years, I’ve been on the run constantly. And this is the best year so far. What made it the best was, you.
Honestly, if you want to know how I really felt about you, I fell in love with you. This was totally against the rules.
My parents had totally forbidden me to have any feelings for any guy I met; it would make leaving that much harder. But I couldn’t help my feelings Kirk; I love you and always will.
But last night, they came after me again and I had one choice. I had to go to a new school where I wouldn’t be found. I want to let you know, I’ll never forget you; in fact I don’t know how I could forget you.
Just remember, I’ll always love you and you’ll always be in my memory. And if you hear anything on the news about two people being shot, it will be my parents. The people after me, they shot my parents.
Don’t tell the police anything! If they find out what happened, they’ll start a nationwide search for me. And I can’t have that happen, and then they’ll ask you a lot of questions.
Ones that you won’t know the answers to. I’m sorry, after this….. we can have no contact what so ever. Here, maybe this will explain a few things…

I know you hate to see me cry
I hate to leave you alone like this
I watch the stars at night
Remembering what used to be…
The stars call out to me
They tell me to return
I look in the mirror
And watch my tears fall
They fall for you
In your memory
You’re all I want to remember
At this point I cry tonight
Memories of what used to be
As the rain falls on the window pain
The tears fall in its rhythm
The rhythm of the rain
I know you hate to see me cry
I hate to leave you alone like this
I watch the stars at night
Remembering what used to be…
The stars call out to me
They tell me to return
I look in the mirror
And watch my tears fall
I watch the sky
The shooting stars go in steady beat
The beating of my heart
Slowly fades to nothingness
As I cry out
For what used to be
I miss what are now memories
I want to return to….
What used to be…
~Becca

Kirk put the letter down as his tears fell ten times over. By the time that Kirk had to leave for school, the letter was soaked in tears.
Kirk got ready for school and left to go to his bus stop.

----/Rebecca\----

Rebecca was sitting in the carriage awaiting her arrival at her new school. She could feel the wind blowing through her hair.

‘I hate this.’ Just then, she saw her new school ‘Well here I am.’ Rebecca sorrowfully thought.
She landed on the ground and got out of the carriage. She stepped on a cobble stone path and sighed.
She looked around and saw her headmaster, or at least what seemed to be her headmaster. A tall, thin man walked up to Rebecca.

“Hello, you must be Rebecca Bailey. We have been expecting you. Welcome, I am Headmaster Raven. I will do the honors of showing you to your cabin and giving you your class schedule.” Headmaster Raven said. Rebecca nodded with a smile and followed Headmaster Raven to an ancient looking building.

“This is the admissions cabin. Here you will find all the information on anything you need.” Headmaster Raven explained.
Headmaster Raven motioned for Rebecca to follow him. Rebecca walked behind him to a center square.
It had a huge fountain in the middle and the fountain had gilt edges, gold. The middle of the fountain was a sculpture of a death fairy.

“This is Cabin Square, if you go West; you’ll find your cabin.” The Headmaster said.

“I thought I had three classes all together?” Rebecca asked.

“You do, but your first class is the cabin you will be staying in. Like for you, your first class is Japanese Poetry, so you will be staying in the poetry cabin.” Headmaster Raven explained.
Rebecca mouthed an ‘oh’ and followed the Headmaster to the West where her cabin was.
A few minutes passed and Rebecca gasped at the place she’d be staying. It wasn’t your ordinary cabin.
The cabin has a huge glass roof. But if you walked onto a small bridge, you would see that the center of the cabin was practically dug out.
In the middle of, what looked to be rooms, there was a tranquil garden. It had pure silver benches with silk cushions, and plants that inspired beautiful things.
Of course Rebecca had heard of the beauty of the Poetry cabin, but had never experienced it firsthand. Even in the letter she received from the school, the details weren’t this great.

‘Maybe this won’t be so bad at all. Oh who am I kidding, as long as Kirk isn’t here; things will just continue to get worse.’ Rebecca ruefully thought.
Her eyes saddened and she continued to follow the Headmaster to her room of the Poetry Cabin.

“You will be staying in the Northeast room of this cabin. Feel free to fix it up as you like. You could re-design it or you could just leave it how it is.
And if you wish, we could get an expert to design it like your old bedroom or even someone else’s who is close to you.” Raven said.

“You mean I could…” Rebecca trailed off and walked to her room. It was utterly beautiful when she opened the door.
Rebecca stepped in and put her things on her queen size, four poster bed. The walls were a deep maroon with a black vine design.
The room had an ancient Roman style, chandelier. The four poster bed had a sort of rusted style to it and was a deep black metal twisting around each other.
The comforter was black silk and the pillows were maroon silk. The Headmaster watched in amusement as Rebecca walked around the room.

“I take it you’re happy with your room. Well your private bathroom is over here, your walk in closet is right over there and I see you’ve already found the bed.” Raven pointed out.
Rebecca had dive bombed onto the bed and was rolling around. The Headmaster left the room and left Rebecca to herself.

‘Ok this will get better, all I have to do is make new friends. And forget my old ones.’ At this thought, Rebecca broke down crying into her silk pillows.
All you could hear throughout the cabin was Rebecca’s crying. Suddenly Rebecca heard a knock on her door and she got up to answer it.

“Hello?” Rebecca said as she opened the door. She saw a boy about her age standing in front of her.

“Hi, I’m Drake; I heard you crying and wanted to know if everything was alright?” Drake asked. Rebecca stood there stunned.
She immediately stopped crying and wiped her tears away.

“H-hi, yea I’m ok. And my name is Rebecca by the way.” She replied “Are you in the Poetry Cabin too?” Rebecca asked confused.
Drake chuckled, “No, I’m in the Armor and Weaponry Cabin. The one right next to here.” Drake smiled. Rebecca blushed, ‘Was I really crying that loud?’ she all of a sudden felt a shudder throughout her body.
As if her heart was mending.

“Well I’m new here, I could use some help finding my way around.” Rebecca said with a pleasant smile.

“I would be glad to show you around Becca.” Drake replied holding out his hand. Drake had black skater hair and bright green eyes.
There was a scar going diagonal across his right eye and he had good muscles for a 13 year old. They left Rebecca’s cabin and walked next door to the Weaponry and Armor Cabin.
Drake opened the door and walked in dragging Rebecca along with him.

“This is my Cabin. Pretty basic really, here; I have someone I want you to meet.” He said.

“Ok.” Rebecca replied. Drake pulled her over to a door and stepped through. Rebecca gasped, it was a fighting arena.

“Hey Alex! Get your ass over here!” Drake shouted. Rebecca chuckled and Drake looked down at her and smiled that charming smile.
A tall boy ran over to them; his semi-long blonde hair bouncing up and down.

“Yea, what is it Drake?” Alex asked. Drake nodded to Rebecca and Alex grinned.

“Well hello, who might you be?” Alex asked taking Rebecca’s hand; he kissed the top of it. Rebecca mentally grimaced and smiled on the outside, “I’m Rebecca… Rebecca Bailey.” Rebecca replied.

“Well it’s a pleasure Rebecca.” Alex said. Rebecca smiled and then something clicked.

‘I have to write the letter to Kirk!’ she thought hurriedly. “Well I have to go write a letter! So I’ll talk to you later! Bye, bye!” Rebecca shouted as she ran back to her cabin.
She sat at the desk that was in the room and set to work on writing her letter to Kirk. Once she was done, Rebecca mailed the letter and set off for her first class.

----/Kirk – At School\----

Kirk got off the bus straining to keep the tears at bay. He walked over to the usual corner where his friends where.

“Guys..." Kirk began still fighting tears “Becca left last night…” he finished, the tears now falling freely. Ulduz was completely shocked, as were the rest of his friends.

“Are you sure she left? Like for good?” Laura asked. Kirk nodded and looked up, his face red from crying. Ulduz walked up to Kirk and hugged him tightly.

“Don’t worry, we’ll get her back.” Ulduz said.

“Yea, we just can’t keep going without her to help us. I mean we could, but we’d be all sad… and that’s beside the point!” Evan said.
Ulduz let go of Kirk and stood beside him, “Now, guys… I have a plan.” Ulduz said.

“And what would that be?” Alyssa asked.

“Well, we would have to skip school.” Ulduz started “Now Kirk, do you know how to get to where she is? *Kirk nods*, ok good… well, we skip school and go to where she is.
Then we bring her back here.” Ulduz finished. Ian clapped, “That’s a good plan.” Everyone looked at Ian with a look of disgust on their face.

“What? Who’s to say I don’t miss her too?” he asked completely confused. Everyone rolled their eyes and got ready to leave school.

During 1st Hour

Ulduz gave Kirk a note in band, it was Friday so they had full band. The note read:

Kirk, we need to get outta here. Get out your cell phone and crash the camera system. I’ll tell Laura.

Kirk got out his cell phone and got to work on crashing the camera system. Ulduz wrote Laura a note and sent across the room to her.
Once the note got to Laura, she looked up to Ulduz and saw her nod. Laura read the note; it said:

Laura, Kirk is working on crashing the camera system. Be ready to leave when the end of 1st hour is signaled.

Laura looked up at Ulduz again and nodded when she made eye contact with her. Ulduz wrote another note that said the same thing and gave it to Megan.
Megan read it and looked back to Ulduz and nodded. Kirk wrote a note to Ulduz; she took it and it said:

Ulduz, I crashed the system. All we need to do now is; wait. I’ll meet you outside by the parking lot.
Make sure you bring Laura and Megan. I’ll get Alyssa, Evan, Nathan and Ian.

Ulduz nodded to Kirk and continued to play.

After 1st Hour

Kirk waited for Ulduz, Megan and Laura to catch up and then they walked out of the room together.

“Ok, I’m gonna go get Evan, Nathan, Alyssa and you get Ian. His locker is closer.” Kirk said, all three of them nodded and they departed.
Laura walked up to Ian and told him to follow her. He did what he was told, for once in his life and followed Laura.
Ulduz met up with them and they walked to the stair well nearest to Mrs. Jernigan’s room.

Kirk walked with Nathan, Alyssa, Megan and Evan to the closest door and they left the building, surprisingly without any trouble from the security guards.
All of them walked outside and to the parking lot; there they saw Ulduz, Laura and Ian waiting for them.

“What took you guys so long?” Ian asked, annoyed.

“Well sorry, we kinda had to dodge all the cops in the halls.” Kirk replied, heatedly.

“Whatever, let’s just go. Come on, we have to get going!” Ulduz said hurriedly. Everyone followed her down the side path next to the school building.
They ducked while they ran.

“Ok, we have to cross the upcoming bridge in order to get to the place where she left.” Kirk recognized. Everyone nodded and ran down Spring Creek.

----/Headmaster Raven\----

The Headmaster was watching seven people run to ‘the destination’.

‘So they wish to come to this school. Well so be it.’ Raven thought. He called his assistant in the office and soon a short, petite woman came running into the room.

“Yes sir?” the woman asked.

“Find out any information on Kirk Anderson, Laura Lopez, Ulduz Daari, Nathan Bentley, Ian Richardson, Evan Ryder, Alyssa Licon and Megan Berg.
They will be coming to this school and I need their class schedules along with their likes and dislikes.” Raven said.

“Yes sir, I will get it done right away.” The woman replied. She ran out of the office and to the only online data base in the entire school.

----/Kirk and Friends\----

Kirk and everyone were under the Rock River Bridge by now.

“Ok everyone, we have to climb down to the bottom of the bridge. Be careful, it’s very steep… and whatever you do, don’t look down.” Kirk warned.
He went down first and Ulduz soon followed.

“Just follow where I’m going and you’ll be fine.” Kirk yelled it was starting to pour rain.
Everyone was soon on the cliff side and on their way down the steep slope. Ian was climbing very carefully, and yet he lost his footing and started to fall.

“I’m slipping!” he shouted over the rain, Ian soon found himself falling through the air.

“IAN!” Kirk yelled. As Ian fell past him, Kirk grabbed a hold of his ankle. He struggled to pull him back up, but Kirk managed to bring Ian back up.

“Now, get a better hold on the rock.” Kirk said. Ian nodded shakily and continued to climb down.
They reached the bottom, and when they got down they saw a pure gold carriage.

“Ok guys, follow me and just do what I do… except, don’t say what I say.” Kirk said. They all nodded and followed Kirk to the carriage.

“Everyone get in!’ Kirk yelled; he heard sirens getting closer. They all ran to the carriage and jumped in.

“To Novus Vita Medius.” Kirk said. The carriage took off to the sky without leaving behind any trace.

----/Novus Vita Medius\----

Rebecca was walking to her second class of the day: Greek Archery. When her Headmaster ran up to her.

“Rebecca! Some people are here who wish to see you!” he said hurriedly. Rebecca followed her Headmaster to the front entrance of the school.
When she got there, she was completely shocked.

Kirk looked up to see Rebecca. His eyes widened and he ran up to her.

“Becca!” he shouted. Rebecca looked at Kirk; tears brimming.

“Kirk.” Her voice cracked and she ran to him. They embraced each other, both of them crying into the other’s shirt.
Ulduz, along with everyone else, watched with smiles on their faces as the couple hugged each other.

“I never thought I’d see you again.” Rebecca sobbed.

“Me too Becca. But why did you have to leave so suddenly?” Kirk wondered. Rebecca pulled away from him and looked down at the ground.

“I had to, I had no other choice.” Rebecca began “It was either I leave or I get killed. And plus if I had stayed, I would’ve-.” Kirk interrupted her.

“Becca, I love you. You could’ve just come to me.” He said. Kirk put a finger under her chin and lifted her head so she had to look at him.

“I love you too.” With those words, Kirk gently kissed Rebecca. She closed her eyes, as did Kirk. He pulled away and took her hand.

“Well, I hate to stop this very touching moment… but I have all of your class schedules. If you will follow me, I shall show you all to your cabins.” Raven said.
