Chapter 7

Samantha opened her eyes and saw that she was looking up at the sky. She was a little confused so she tilted her head to the side and sat up. She looked around the beach and remembered why she was here. She was hanging out with Jamie and Mina of course. But Samantha couldn't help but let her eye's drop to the towel under her. She felt bad and hoped that she wouldn't almost lose her friend again like she did that one night.
Samantha looked down at her watch to see that it was already 3:00 in the afternoon. She gave a sigh and stood up. Jamie noticed and was confused, was Samantha ready to leave already? They had only been there for two hours. “Hey you okay?” Came Jamie's voice. Samantha just nodded and looked around the beach. Her eyes opened wide when she saw Tony. She quickly sat back down and gave another sigh. She couldn't go anywhere now that he was there.
Back when Tony had broken up with Amy two days she had seen Megan and Tony smiling at each other. So she thought that they must like each other. And she didn't want to hurt Megan by hanging around Tony so much. But then again Tony would have been the one to know that Megan was hurt and not John. Boy, was Samantha really confused now! She couldn't understand her friend anymore. She didn't know what was wrong with her or who she liked. Samantha and Megan really needed to talk now.

Megan and John were done helping Bryan unpack. So they thought of going to get something to drink. But before they left John turned around and faced Bryan who was going to see them out. “You wanna come with us?” John asked. Bryan thought about this for a moment as he looked over at Megan who was leaning over on the railing. He gave John a smile and just nodded. He grabbed his room key and left with them.
Megan was a little behind John and Bryan as they walked to the smoothie place on campus. Bryan took a glance back at Megan, who was looking down at the grounded and not paying any attention to them. “So is this girl who you had to take care of last night?” Bryan asked John in a whisper so that Megan couldn't hear him. John just nodded as his response. “Well she is cute I can tell you that much.” Bryan was smiling at this and John just frowned. “Yeah she really is.” John said a grin creeping up on his face. He couldn't help but smile. Megan really was beautiful not matter how you looked at it.
Megan was busy in her own world as the two boys whispered and talked in front of her. She gave a silent sigh as they passed the beach. She hadn't visited there for awhile. And she thought that she might just sneak out there tonight for the sun set or just to feel the water on her feet. She loved the ocean or even just the water. It was the one thing that could and would calm her, and the one thing that her father couldn't take away from her.
She gave another sigh when she saw Mina and Tom holding hands and laughing as they splashed through the water. She knew then that Jamie, Lenny, and Samantha were near. She didn't feel like seeing them at all right now. Jamie might have been John's sister, but she didn't really like her that much. It just seemed like Samantha had replaced her already with Jamie. That Jamie was Samantha's new friend and Megan meant nothing to her at all.
When Megan had come back to reality she was standing at the entrance of Smoothie Time Palace. John and Bryan had already gone in and it looked like they were about to order. So Megan pushed open the doors and no one noticed as always. She went over to stand next to John. Bryan had already ordered and took a seat at a table by himself.
“Go ahead and order what you want.” John said without really thinking then it hit him. “Or just write it down.” He added quickly. Megan smiled like she was laughing and wrote down that she wanted a strawberry smoothie. John nodded and ordered, “One strawberry smoothie and one banana smoothie please.” He told the cashier. “Go on over and sit with Bryan while I pay.” Megan nodded and did as she was told.
When Megan got to the table that Bryan was at, Bryan gave her a warm smile. Megan smiled back and just took a seat across from him. A few minutes later John was at the table with all of their drinks. “Hey mate you didn't have to get mine as well.” Bryan told him.
“I didn't really mind. I was already up there waiting for Megan's and mine so I thought why not bring you your's.” John replied. Bryan gave him a shake of the head and just started to drink his smoothie. Megan was half way done with hers when she stood up and roamed around the place. She came to stop at a fighting game in there. So she put her finished smoothie down and just started to play the game.
John just watched Megan walk away and Bryan noticed. “You really like her huh?” He asked. John snapped back to reality and just nodded.
“Yeah for awhile actually. I guess I just didn't really notice it that much.” John said starting to mumble a bit so no one, but Bryan could hear. Some of John's friends and classmates from his old schools were here before. And he knew how must of them were, stealing the girls he liked was one way to get him really mad.
Bryan just nodded and they talked for a bit until it got really dark. So they decided on heading back to the dorms. Megan was done playing her games as well so she left with them. John and Bryan went their way to their dorms and Megan headed off by herself to her dorm.
When she got there she saw that Samantha wasn't back yet, which sort of disappointed her a bit. She really didn't like how her best friend was acting right now. So Megan went ahead and got ready for bed. It would be a weekend tomorrow so maybe she would be able to talk with Samantha then.
As Megan was buttoning the top of her pajamas she looked out the window. It was another full moon. She sighed as she remembered her mother. She soon began to cry, she moved backwards toward her bed. She got into her bed and fell asleep crying. And not to long after she had fallen asleep Samantha had come back from the beach in hope to see if Megan was still awake. She had no luck seeing her best friend fast asleep already. She gave a sigh and as well as got ready for bed. A few minutes later she was the one who was fast asleep too.

A month passed and Samantha and Megan still didn't have time to talk. Every morning was the same. Megan would get up before Samantha did and would be off somewhere with someone. And when Samantha would get up and see that Megan was gone. She would get herself ready and go and try and find her to speak to her in private, but when she got to the door Jamie was standing right there waiting. Samantha didn't want to make Jamie feel bad so she would let Jamie drag her where ever she wanted to go. And a few times she would see Tony there as well which made her feel kind of weird. She still hadn't spoken to Megan about it either so she really didn't know what was up. And when Samantha did have the chance to talk to Megan she was with John or someone else. So it was a complicated month for her. And it was about to get more complicated since it was almost Megan's birthday. And she didn't know what to get or do for her birthday. “Two more weeks and it's her birthday this isn't good.” Samantha said to herself. She was in the dorm room by herself since Megan had gone down to the beach with some new guy. Samantha would sure like to get to know him, but he seemed more interesting in Megan like every guy was. Samantha sighed seeing that everything was being flipped. Back when they were living back home, Samantha was the one who got all the guys' attention. She was every guy's dream, but now here at this boarding school Megan was the one who got every guy's attention. Samantha smiled a little as she wrote these thoughts in her diary.
As Samantha finished up her diary entry she heard a knock on her door. She quickly closed her book and put it in her desk drawer. She stood up and opened the door. The sun light was a bit blinding so she couldn't see who it was right away. “Come on in.” She said squinting her eyes so that she wasn't blinded. The boy nodded and stepped inside as soon as Samantha had moved out of the way. She closed the door behind him and now her eyes had to get use to the dark for a bit. She blinked a few times until she could tell who it was. She looked very surprised to see him again.
Megan was down on the beach with Bryan, John, and some others. She was happy to be down there for once in a long while. John had some of his old classmates with him and they were asking him how he got a girl like that. “She's not my girlfriend you guys. She's only a friend.” He explained.
“Yeah right, like we would believe that you could only be a friend with her.” They all said.
“What will it take for you guys to believe that she's just a friend?”
“Umm… her telling us that she is.”
“She can't talk.” Bryan told them so that John didn't have to. “So she can't tell you guys that she's just John's friend.”
“And who might you be?” One guy who was a football player asked.
“Names Bryan,” He answered smiling holding out his hand.
“Mine's Scott,” the football player replied not taking Bryan's hand. So Bryan brought his hand back to his side. They were all watching Megan from that one spot, well except for Bryan. Yeah he had a small crush on her, but he sure didn't want to break John's heart. Speaking of John well he wasn't quite paying much attention to anyone. He was just looking up at the sky thinking of something or someone. Then he sat up right away.
“Hey has anyone seen Kevin around?” He asked unexpected. Bryan looked confused and so did everyone else. Megan didn't pay any attention, plus she couldn't hear them.
John just looked around the place to see if Kevin was any where to be seen, but sadly he wasn't. His best friend wasn't any where. Best friend? Yeah right, I don't think he thinks of me that way anymore. Well ever since he moved out of my dorm anyways. John thought to himself. He felt bad for just remembering his friend. He had barley even seen him at school. John gave a sigh and just stood up to actually see Kevin talking with some girl that he had never seen before. John decided on walking up to them.
“Hey Kevin,” John said to him with a smile. Megan could hear them so she tilted her head back to see them.
“Hey John,” Kevin replied in a not so interesting voice. He looked pretty annoyed with John.
“Hey is there a problem between us or something?” John sounded very confused for he never had his best friend this mad at him before.
Kevin just shook his head, “No there isn't.” He said lying. John nodded and just walked away. He didn't head by to his friends he actually went over and sat next to Megan. Megan gave him a smile and turned around back to facing the ocean. She smiled and sat back so that she was putting her weight on her hands. John looked over at her and smiled, lightly blushing a bit. Kevin noticed John smiling at Megan and his temper was rising, “Come on Tiffany lets go,” Kevin said as he took Tiffany by the arm and took her away from the beach.
No one else noticed that Kevin seemed mad, besides Bryan. He noticed big time, because he understood how he felt. Megan was beautiful, but who knew who she liked. And Bryan knew that John really liked her so he stayed away. He didn't feel like losing John as a friend right now, and it was Kevin's loss for choosing a girl over a friend.
It was about 30 minutes later that Tony came along near the beach. He was looking for Samantha. Hoping to get back together with her, but he couldn't see her at the beach. But instead he spotted Megan laying there. So he went down and sat down next to her. Megan saw him and tilted her head towards him in confusion. “Do you know where Samantha is, Meg?” He asked her. Megan shook her head then sat up straight and looked through her bag. She got her note pad out and started writing:
Haven't seen her all month. Well not that much at least. Only in the morning and before I go to bed. Oh and at school. That's it really. Sorry, Tony.
Tony read the note and gave Megan a nod. “I understand. I'm guessing you guys haven't talked much?” He asked her. Megan nodded with a frown on her face. She really, really missed Samantha right now. The only thing Megan didn't know was that Samantha was feeling the same way.
Samantha sat at a café with Jamie and Mina. They were trying to find her a boyfriend. And so far weren't being successful. “Come on Sam, there has got to be a guy out there right for you,” Mina said with a sigh. Samantha just shook her head. There was a guy out there and it was Tony. And she didn't really want to be here with Jamie and Mina. She wanted to go find Megan and talk to her. She didn't really want to hurt Jamie and Mina's feelings, but she really had to find Megan… now.
“Hey guys, do you mind if I go find a friend of mine?” She asked them. Jamie and Mina looked over at Samantha. They gave her a nod and a smile.
“Is it Megan?” Jamie asked her. Samantha smiled and gave her a nod this time.
“I really need to talk to her. No offense, but I've been spending so much time with you two that I haven't been with her at all. So I need to talk to her and make sure everything is cool with us okay?” Jamie and Mina nodded and told her to go and find her.
Samantha thanked them then stood up and walked off, but before she left Jamie told her to check the beach. She was already headed there anyways. So when she left the café she took a deep breath and walked off to the beach. “I have to talk to her. I just have to. No matter what happens, no matter who gets in the way. I'll talk to her. I have to make sure she doesn't go and hurt herself again! I can't let that happen. If she does I just couldn't live with the guilt!” Samantha whispered harshly to herself. And it was true. If Megan died, she just couldn't live with it. They had been friends since, well, who knows when. But it was for a long time. And Samantha looked at Megan like a sister. And she always would.
Samantha got to the beach in a couple minutes to see the football players and Bryan on one side. And they weren't to far from Megan and, not to her surprise, John. From Samantha's view, John seemed to be talking to Megan, but that wasn't happening. Megan was only looking out to the ocean admiring it's beauty. And John, well he was just acting like a normal 15-year-old boy acts. He was just starring at her, admiring her beauty.
Samantha gave both of them a smile then walked over and sat next to Megan. “We need to talk,” She whispered to her friend. John looked up from Megan, and Megan turned her attention from the ocean to Megan. Both of them were very surprised to see her there. Megan titled her head to the side in confusion. Like she was asking Samantha what she was talking about. Which Megan knew was a stupid question. She knew exactly what Samantha wanted to talk about. Megan gave her friend a nod and stood up. She turned to John and nodded at him like she was telling him she was sorry that she had to leave.
“You go ahead. You guys need some girl time. Really you do. I shouldn't be stopping you,” John said and he kept talking while Samantha and Megan got up and left. Megan smiled like she wanted to laugh. Like she did before she wanted to go mute. She missed her laugh and she could tell Samantha did as well.
“I'm really sorry we haven't been talking in months. Really I am. I didn't mean for it to happen at all. I guess I just got so caught up with what happened with Kevin. Then Jamie and Mina wanted me to feel better. And I never asked you to join and they never asked me if you wanted to come along. So I didn't bother. And then you and John were hanging out so much. Then what happened with Tony and Amy. And he was with you so much. I guess I didn't know who you were anymore. And I miss the old Megan I use to stay up all night with. I miss her voice. I miss you, Megan.” Samantha said almost in tears. If it weren't for the fact they were mainly surrounded by the majority of the student body, then she would have bust into tears. And what she had said was the truth. She really did miss Megan. And Megan really missed Samantha. Megan have Samantha a weak smile and gave her a hug. Before she had decided to become mute she would have whispered she was sorry and felt the same way, but she just couldn't. She couldn't find her voice after these many years with out it. So she pulled back and looked at Samantha and mouthed the words, “I missed you more then ever, Sam.” They embraced once again and walked back to their dorm. The best friends were back together and no one would break them apart again. And if someone were to break them apart, well lets just say they would have to take both of them even in sports.
And it was like that for about two months. The only time they were really apart was for school and to go to the bathroom, but other then that they stuck together like glue. They didn't want to lose each other at all. John and Samantha got to know each other better. And Megan, with John's help, introduced Samantha and Bryan. Megan tried to not let Samantha fall in love with him, cuz she knew that Tony needed to tell her that he loved her. And that he always had. He had never stopped thinking about her. Megan couldn't just tell Samantha this she needed to hear it from him personally. So keeping Samantha from falling in love would be a little hard for now.
