A Seer's Tears—

The cushioned chair seamed to be trying to swallow her as the girl squirmed uncomfortably. It was a comfortable chair to be assured but it was far to big for her. She shivered a little it was always so cold in that room. The girl could sense the guard that stood outside the door to her chamber, could tell that he was tired. Then the door opened and someone walked in. She knew that it was EAtherin before he even spoke.

EAtherin was the elfin lord that had taken her from her mother. He had told her that her daughter would be in the finest of care. Once it was discovered that the girls mother had gone infertile after that pregnancy the lord had ordered that the village be burned to the ground and all the occupants the be massacred. The lord had taken the woman's infertility to mean that only a select few could see the girl. As such he had kept her locked up in this room with all its comforts for 20 years. He was her only visitor, and he only came when he wanted information on his enemy's or allies. Through her gift he had managed to advance to the level of count. The man was aiming for kingship. And as a king he decided that he needed a queen and had chosen this sedated little girl that had no idea of anything of the outer world.

“My lady I trust you are well.” EAtherin spoke. His voice always sent a shiver of fear down her spine.

Feyoura woke suddenly from the nightmare of her past and for a minute she thought that she was back in that old castle bed that begged her to sleep forever.
It had been this way for the past three months. A soft feather bed and fur blankets that wrapped her in a cocoon of warmth and protection. The last of her pain riddled dreams seamed to evaporate as the warm sun reached out and touched her face.
“Good morning, my Lady.” A friendly and warm female voice greeted her as she started to stir. “I've brought you breakfast.” Feyoura smiled “Good morning to you as well my friend. The food smells delicious. What is it?” this was a seen that she was not yet used to. “It's called hash browns, my Lady.” The woman replied, and set the platter in front of her. Feyoura smiled up at the place were the voice was coming from. She really is too kind to me.
After the two had eaten the woman helped Feyoura out of bed and to get dressed. Her coarse hands as gentle as a mother's led her to her robes and helped her in them. After that was finished they went for a walk through the village were they were staying and the surrounding forest area.
The people of the village came out of there homes to talk to the seer and ask general advice on question that they seamed very worried about. “Will it be a good harvest this year? How bad of a winter can we expect? Is Timo going to grow up big and strong like his papa?” Feyoura smiled and answered all of there questions happily. The people were very kind but the woman that she was traveling with kept them at a respectful distance.
Once they reached the forest a choirs of bird song assaulted their ears. Feyora turned the direction that she thought that her guard might be. “Sadmadus? What do they look like?” the seer asked quietly. She had heard one of the children ask his mother why the birds were not all the same color, and she was curious as to what birds looked like now that she knew they were different colors. Not that she had ever seen colors. In fact the only thing she knew about colors is that their isn't any way to describe them. “What do what look like, my Lady?” Sadmadus replied curious. Feyoura leased a sigh. Of course she doesn't know what I'm talking about. She's seen birds her whole life she probably doesn't even know how to describe them. And she's STILL refusing to use my name! I don't understand why people wont use my name, it's such a pretty name. The two continued to walk in silence for some time.
They didn't really need words. They were bonded far deeper then words could allow. They had talked frequently at first, Feyoura having never had anyone but that horrible elfin lord to speak with and Sadmadus having never seen a seer. Sadmadus had asked so many question and Feyoura had been more then happy to give her the answers. Towards the end, when the questions had turned to her Feyoura had been shocked. She didn't understand why her guard wanted to know so much about her. But they were happy now and that was all that mattered. Now they knew everything of each other. Just holding her hand, as Sadmadus led her, brought Feyoura and unspeakable joy.
They walked together in peace through the forest. Happy for the warm breeze that told of the summer to come, and each others company.
After a while Feyoura stopped as she realized that it was far to quite for the active forest that they had just entered. “What is it, my Lady?” Sadmadus asked promptly on guard. “Is it a vision?” The silence had an overpowering effect on the young seer. She stumbled over to a tree. She felt like she had to swim to get to it, as though the silence were trying to drown her. Feyoura clutched at the tree trying to get away from her guard so that she wouldn't get hurt. Something wet and warm ran under then over the woman's fingers. “my Lady your bleeding!” Sadmadus startled. “Blood? The blood is not mine.” The seer said weekly. At that point the guard scoped up the seer to carry her back to the inn.
At that moment they heard it. The sound that meant another drastic change for the young seer. A blood curdling scream penetrated the fog of silence that surrounded them. It was that of a child. Feyoura groaned “Blood… Blood… Blood… Their coming, and they'll kill everyone… Everything…” she wept quietly saying this into Sadmadus chest. The seer clutched at the tunic that her guard was wearing as she ran back to the village. “Hush my Lady. Don't say such things.” Sadmadus sounded strong but Feyoura knew different. Sadmadus's grip had tightened and their was a faint trembling in her normally steady arms.
As they raced back to the village a few more screams were heard, but aside form that their was only the sound of Sadmadus's normally silent feet. They seamed to crunch ominously with every step she took. They reached the village quickly and Sadmadus gasped accidentally. Their was an acidic tang to the air. The guard set her charge down gently then drew her blade. The seer clutched a fighters staff that the warrior had been teaching her how to use these past months. They walked further into the village, treading carefully. Sadmadus led the seer with a firm hand to the town square. “We have to leave this town.” She said gently, firmly, and quietly. Feyoura just nodded her head. I never dreamed that this is how it would be. What happened? They headed back to the inn and picked up their few things. They decided that it would be best to make a break for the road as quietly as possible.
As they walked a sound caught their ears. Their was a rustle in the shrubs and then a voice spoke. It was smooth and calculating, to the unwary listener it sounded like the crash of a waterfall. “Ahh… Their you are my love! I have been looking for you for quite some time.” Feyoura froze in fear as a voice that she had hoped that she would only have to hear in her dreams now spoke in her ears. The voice rang in her ears as it continued to speak. “You shouldn't have run off like that you know. I've had to kill so many people. You know very well that only a few may look at you. Now come with me love, I don't want you to get this woman's blood on your beautiful white robes” It chilled Feyoura to her bones the way that he spoke of killing. Did he kill everyone that saw me! Everything! That monster! And he's not even sorry! You can hear it in his voice! She shrank away from him and clutched at Sadmadus's arm. “Run my Lady. I can hold them off.” she whispered quietly in the woman's ear. “and just where would I run, might I ask? No I'm not leaving you. Besides if you died I would never be whole again. My fate same as my sole is bound to you.” Feyoura didn't bother to lower her voice as she said it. Let him know! Let the world know! I cant stop the future from coming I just know it before it gets here!
“Don't be stupid!” the lord and the fighter yelled in union. “If you stay here they'll capture you again and lock you back up in that prison they call a castle.” Sadmadus told me desperately. “I know that but if I leave you'll die” Feyoura replied quietly and resigned. Sadmadus gulped then shook her head. “I am willing to make that sacrifice for your freedom, my Lady.” She said quietly. “Well I'm not going to let you make that choice” Feyoura spat venomously.
“This is all very touching,” EAtherin put in with a board tone “but shit is coming back with me. The farther she runs the more people will die. And you mademoiselle will die either way.” “If I come with you willingly will you let her live?” Feyoura asked then bit her lip as the answer came over her. “You know that I cant allow that. This woman, what did you call her Sodmusus, has seen you and must die for it.” he said speaking to Feyoura the way you would a child that couldn't possibly understand. Their was ice in his voice as though he hated this guard woman that had stolen HIS seer. “Her name is Sadmadus. And if she has to die then so do I.” The seer told EAtherin bluntly, and stepped in front of the guard. The lord surged his shoulders, “If that's the way you want it. GUARDS! Seize the seer and kill the other your orders stand!”
The fight that ensued was a long one. The seer and the warrior fought back to back with a nearly impenetrable line of defense. But Feyoura's in ability to see made Sadmadus nervous for her and she was guarding her more then herself. Feyoura heard a squelch that was to close by to be one of EAtherin's men. Sadmadus stiffened as the blade plunged into her front side. “no” Feyoura whispered quietly unable to believe the outcome. Feyoura who had battled with both energy and staff barely managed to erect a shield around them. Sadmadus sunk to her knees then her side and lay on the ground trying to ketch her breath. This cant be happening. I wont let it happen no No “NO!” Feyoura screamed and then felt around for where her friend now lay dieing.
Sadmadus's breath was shuddering as Feyoura placed her head on her lap. The seer didn't have the energy left to heal her friend though she tried. Feyoura felt something seep through her robes but she didn't care. The seer just sat their with her friends head in her lap gently stroking her hair, as the guard had done for her after so many nightmares, and begging her not to leave. Hours passed like this and all the seer could do was think.
All this because of sight, because she saw me. Is sight that important. I've never seen a thing in my life and yet now hundreds, no thousands, of people had died all for the simple reason that they might have seen me. People always tell me that my lack of sight is the sorce of my power. Now because of that power my best friend, no my only friend, is now DIEING! I don't want this any more! I never asked for any of this!
Sadmadus interrupted her thoughts “Feyoura.” She said then coughed. It was a horrored sound. A sound that only the dieing could make. It was the first time that she had ever called the seer by name. That broke a wall in the seer and she starting crying silently wetting her eye fold. “Feyoura theirs still time. Feyoura you can still run. Leave me while you still have the energy to keep this shield up and run.” The woman's breath was raspy and words were hard to grasp. Feyoura shook her head, “I could never leave you. I love you too much.” She said quietly. Sadmadus is dieing and I cant stop that. But I can put all this to a stop. All the killing could end. And I'm going to end it right now.
The seer bent down and gave Sadmadus a kiss on the forehead. “Sleep well my friend.” Then in a quick movement she removed her eye fold. “Feyoura! What are you doing?!” Sadmadus gasped shocked. The woman held her breath and whispered through her now unbridled tears, “I wish to see you before you die.” And she did.
