"I have no idea what you're talking about..."

Fiona stepped out of the limo when it came to a stop. Walking inside she slammed the door and locked it. "Stalker."

James stopped as the door slammed in his face. "Bitch," he muttered, pulling his coat around him as he started walking back to the school.

Fiona loved the weekends. She didn't throw parties and she didn't normally invite people over. It was her mellow time. She read books and listened to good music. Went to museums or to the opera. It was the only two days out of the week where she could really loosen up and smile.

"Don't fuss, Rain," his mother said. "It's tradition to go to the opera."

"I'm not fussing because of the opera, mother. You know I love it," he said. "I'm upset because...we really don't have the money to do this."

His mother smiled and kissed his cheek. "It will be fine. Your dad is working extra so we can do this."

He sighed and nodded as he fixed his jacket.

Fiona smiled at the group she was with. It was some of the city’s finest and richest people. Of course, all of them were older than her, but she loved the company. They didn't talk about school but about real matters and they often enjoyed her company. She laughed at one of their jokes then thanked someone for the comment on her elegant sparkling white dress. Her eyes scanned the crowd and she stopped.

"Please excuse me," she said to the group then walked through the crowd. She stopped in front of Rain and his mother. "Hello. What a surprise seeing you here."

"It...is a surprise," Rain said with a smile. Despite the fact that she was wearing a dress, her wounds weren't visible. He was curious what she had done to hide them.

"A pleasant surprise," his mother corrected. "I wasn't aware that you were a fan of the opera, Fiona. Are your parents here with you?"

"No, I'm here with a few friends of my father's company. I come to the opera every other weekend. I would be honored if you joined my box. Without my family, it's rather empty. Please, you won't have to pay for seats. We own the box," she smiled.

"Well-"

"We'd love to," Rain said with a smile. He glanced at his mother. It would save them money.... With a nod, his mother smiled at her.

"Thank you dear, that is most generous of you."

"My parents never come. They don't like opera very much. So they bought the box for me." She looked over his tux and fixed his tie with her long white gloved hands. It was easy to see that their family didn't have money. "I would be very honored if you would allow me to let you have access to the box. You see...I am the only one using it and it's time goes to such a waste. I would love to put you and your family on the list to use it. Rain has been such a good friend to me, always helping me with my school work. It would make me feel so happy if you accepted the gift."

"Thank you dear," his mother said with a smile. "But that really is too kind of you."

"Even so, we are honored," Rain said. Looking from his mother to Fiona, he blushed as he took her gloved hand and kissed it. "Thank you."

"Oh please! It would me so very much to me!" she said with big eyes. "And I would love the company. My parents left last week for their travels so I'm rather lonely on the weekends."

It was clear that his mother was not accustomed to accepting charity, even if she didn't realize it was. Neither her nor Rain were, of course, they were both gracious about it. "Well, thank you, Fiona. We appreciate it."

"Wonderful!" she said. The lights flickered and she ushered them to follow her to the box. They had the perfect view of the opera, but even so, she handed them each a pair of fancy magnifying glasses. A butler came in and she ordered them so things in French then just before it started, the snacks and drinks came out.

With Rain in between his mother and Fiona, he was quite curious how the evening was going to fair. The opera was actually quite good, which surprised him. It had been a while since he'd been able to relax and truly enjoy one. Sipping some tea, he cast the occasional glance over at Fiona. Seeing her like this, dressed as a lady and such gave him a completely new perspective of her. Why couldn't she act like this all the time?

Fiona stood and clapped as the curtains were pulled.
"Beautiful..." she whispered as she smiled.

"That was magnificent," his mother agreed.

"It was...sad," Rain said softly as he stood with Fiona. "But beautiful."

"It always is beautiful," she said. She waved to some men in the box next to her and they bows. She curtsied and they left, their normal goodbye. She looked at Rain and his mother. "Thank you so much for sharing this evening with me."

"It was our pleasure, Fiona. I am so happy that Rain has met such a pleasant young lady such as yourself. If ever you wish for company to the opera we will be delighted to join you."

"I shall keep that in mind and hold you to it."

"I hope you do." After saying her goodbye, Rain looked at Fiona and bowed.

"Thankfor the wonderful evening, Fiona."

She smiled and curtsied. "You are very welcome. Good evening, Rain."

With a nod, Rain escorted his mother out to their car.A few seconds after their departure, a girl came up to Fiona and smirked. "Who was the cute one in your box?"

"Mine," she said and smiled before walking out.

"We shall see...." She grinned.

On Sunday, Fiona went to the aquarium. She loved it there. She knew most of the works and because of that she got to play with the animals. When Monday rolled around, Rain was at school at his average time. However, when he got there, he realized there was a girl sitting in his desk. A raven haired beauty which stared at him with interest.
"That's...my desk," he said slowly.

"Oh! I'm so sorry," she blushed. "I'm new to this class. I was trying to find my spot."

"It's okay," he smiled. "I'm Rain."

The girl smiled and curtsied. "Veronica. It's a pleasure Rain."

Fiona looked her up and down, said nothing and sat down.

"So you're new to this class?"

"Yes," she said, glancing over at Fiona and casting her a grin when he wasn't looking. "I heard that you got an excellent score on the test last week? Any chance...you might...help tutor me?" She looked at him innocently as she shifted before him.

Swallowing hard, he just nodded.
"Sure, I'd be happy to."

Fiona yawned. "It's not a race. You can have him if you want him that bad," she said without looking at them as she flipped a page in the book she was reading.

"Huh? Fiona, what are you talking about?" Rain asked as while he set his books down.

"You are so very dense," she said as she kept reading.

He frowned as he looked at her.
"Why can't you be nice like you were this weekend?"

"I am being nice. Lying is mean. Would you rather me lie to you and tell you that you are smart?"

"Honestly...yes," he admitted.

She put down her book and smiled at him. Reaching over she placed her hand on his cheek.
"You are so very smart, Rain."

His cheeks tinted, but he was smiling. "You're lying...but thank you."

"Sure. I'll lie to you more often if it makes you feel better."

"Well, not about important stuff. Lying about important stuff is bad...but if you're lying to be nice then that's okay."

"Yeah well I was lying when I said I wouldn't lie."

"I kind of figured. It's in your nature," he said with a smile.

Behind him Veronica rolled his eyes.

"You'll get use to it or you will move on," she said as she started reading again.

"Come on, Rain," Veronica said as she wrapped her arms around his and start tugging him out of the classroom. "We can go study!"

"B-but we have class."

"It's no big! I talked to the teacher, he said it was okay," she said with her sincerest smile even though she was lying straight through her teeth.

"Oh...well, alright then. I'll see you later, Fiona!"

"And you are going to believe her. Hate to be honest with you, but you are so very dense."

"What? Why would she lie?""I wouldn't," she said cheerfully, shooting Fiona a dark glare. "She's just jealous. Let's go."

"I don't do jealousy." She looked over at him. "What did I tell you when you first got here? This school will beat you. Don't trust anyone, Rain. Ask the teacher before you leave. Dumb ass."

He frowned and looked at Veronica. Slowly pulling from her, he waited for the teacher like Fiona said. Once he was there, he asked him, only to learn that what Veronica said had been a lie.... He looked back at her, but she was already gone. A sigh escaped his lips as he slid down at his seat. Of course. He should have known better. The first nice person he meets, a girl, one that seemed interested in him, and it was nothing more than a joke or something....

"You need to make your skin harder if you are going to stay in this school."

"I just...what's the point of being mean to someone? Why can't they just be nice? It's not that hard and no one gets hurt."

"I told you, everyone here are vacation kids. Their parents dump them here. Some are dumped for life because they are bastards or because their parents never wanted them. Some are dumped her for only a few months to a year. And some have lived here their whole lives all alone. Most of us are bitter about it. And most of us came here because we were trouble makers to begin with. A school full of trouble makers means you have to become one to survive." She looked at him. "You just have to know which of the badies that will help you out and which will break you down."

He thought about what she said. It made sense. It really did. Which meant he was doomed. Meeting her eyes, he smiled at her. "Then I guess I won't survive. I'm not a trouble maker and I don't like hurting people or seeing them sad. There's enough sadness in this world without me hurting people intentionally."

"Honestly, I think you are going to get murdered in the real world. Good luck with that."

"Thank you," he said sincerely. She nodded. "Oh! Right um...mom, wished to thank you for allowing us to join you at the opera. She wanted to take you out to dinner tonight...if that is alright."

"Sounds lovely. I'll have my driver drop me off at your place."

"Umm, no...that's...that's okay," he said slowly. "We'll pick you up."

"Ashamed of your home, Rain? You shouldn't be. You aren't the only one in this school that doesn't have money."

Rain blushed and looked down at his book. "It's not that. I just..." Slowly he looked up at her. "Is it really that obvious?"

"I'm observant. More than I should be. No, it's not obvious."

That was a relief. "If you really want to," he wrote down their address and handed it to her, "you're more than welcome to come over, Fiona.

She looked the address over and slipped it in her pocket. "Tell your mother we can stay in and eat. We don't have to go out."

He nodded. "I'll tell her...but it might be safer if we go out..." She smirked.

During break, he snuck into the office to call his mom and inform her of the change of plans. Of course after getting yelled out for revealing their secret, she finally consented that they would stay at home and eat to save money.

While he was walking back to Fiona, a hand suddenly slammed his back into the lockers, causing him to wince.
"Listen kid," James said as he glared at him. "Stay away from Fiona, got it?"

"What? But Fiona is my friend..."

"Heh, right. Fiona is no one's friend," he muttered. When the kid just stared at him with those wide eyes, he groaned and punched him in the stomach, causing him to double over. "God you're annoying. Just stay away from her." With that, he walked off. If he stayed around that kid any longer he might kill him. How could Fiona stand him?

Fiona looked down at Rain.
"You looked at someone wrong, right?" She took his hand and helped him up then handed him a chewable tablet. "Here, it helps with the pain."

"Thanks," he winced as he chewed the tablet and swallowed. "Um...Fiona, do you think you're a bad person if you hit someone if it's in self defense?"

She laughed. "In this school, everything is self defense. So no."

He nodded and looked down at his hands. Could he really hit someone? He didn't like being bullied, but he didn't actually want to hurt someone. Surely he could figure out some sort of medium....

She placed her hands on his.
"Look...just hang around with me and no one will mess with you, ok?"

He looked at her, a smile gracing his lips. "Okay," he said, not bothering to tell her about the threat. He didn't want her getting mad at whoever it was. "That will be easy. I like hanging out with you, Fiona."

"Do me a favor and don't say that again." She pushed him towards their next class.

"What? But it's the truth," he said while she tugged him along with her. Not even he would say it, but she was really nice when she wanted to be. He wondered why no one else could see it.

After school she watched him get into his car before getting in her limo. Getting home, she changed her clothes after a shower and left her hair down. Taking make up, she covered the marks on her body. Afterward, she got into her limo and started to the address on the paper.
