For the next week, Fiona and Rain worked after school on Fiona's walking. It wasn't long before she was finally using her legs on her own...and packing her things.
"You're really going back home?" Rain asked, not bother to hide his disappointment.
"Yeah. You guys need the extra room back. And I've worn out my welcome. I paid another months worth of rent to make up for some of the trouble. I'll be going back to school now so I'll see you there." She grabbed her suitcase and put it by the door. "I really wish...I could help more. But I honestly don't think your mother would accept more. Though I don't think it will stop me from asking her if you guys would like to come stay in my mansion. You know I have the room. Lots of room. It's rather boring there."
"You know, instead you could always just stay here," he offered. "Mom's really liked having you here and so have I."
"Why when I have all that room at my place? You could live comfortably. You would have everything you need...your own room and plenty of room for anything you want."
"Yeah, but mom would feel that we'd be taking advantage of your generosity. Also, she'd be embarrassed whenever your parents come back."
"My parents don't come back, Rain...that place is my place. They have a house in Paris."
"I know that, but mom doesn't. Maybe if she did she would consider your offer." He grinned at the thought. "She couldn't stand the thought of you being home alone by yourself with a crazy killer on the loose."
"Your mother thinks my parents are flowers and sunshine. I've lied my ass of this whole time. I highly doubt she would forgive me if she found that I was lying." She picked up her suitcase. "I'll see you at school."
Reaching out, he took her hand and stopped her. "Stay, Fiona. You like us. You know that you do," he teased.
"I'm not staying. There isn't room. No offence...but I miss my things."
He sighed and nodded. "Okay, Fiona. It's been...nice having you here. Even if it wasn't under the best of circumstances."
She opened the door, but then turned to him. Leaning over she pressed her lips to his. After a moment of kissing she pulled back with a smirk. "For the road." She walked out and went to her limo.
Rain was frozen from her kiss, a wide grin on his face as he watched her leave. Inside the seat of her limo was a picture in a frame with a note from his mother. 'Loved having you here. You're welcome here anytime you want. You're part of the family.' The picture was the three of them, laughing and smiling as Rain wiggled his fingers once his cast was taken off.
She picked up the picture with a soft smile. She had never been part of a family before. The limo drove off and for a long time, she stared out the back window, watching Rain at the door. When she got home, she took the picture up to her room and set it on her bedside table.
The next day at school, Rain was anxious. It was her first day back, and last night was the first night he'd goten to sleep in his bed. It still smelled like her, and it made it hard for him to get to sleep. He sat on the steps of the school, yawning as he leaned back and closed his eyes.
"Falling asleep?" she asked as she stood over him.
"Huh? What?" He yawned and opened up his eyes, smiling when he saw her. "Sorry. I didn't sleep much last night."
"I can tell."
"How was your first night back home?"
"Odd. I forgot how big my bed was."
"Hey, my bed isn't that bad," he smirked.
She smirked and started up the stairs to the class. He quickly got up and followed after her. Everyone was staring at she entered. Their eyes shifted between the two of them as they immediately began gossiping.
"Nothing changes in this school."
"Nope."
"Yo! Fiona, about time your sweet ass got back," Clay said, slipping between her and Rain to hug her, his hands sliding down to grab her ass.
She elbowed him hard in the chest. "Hands off the goods."
He doubled over and groaned. "Oh come on. You've been at his house for a month. You must be dying to be filled."
"Not for five more months."
"Oh come on. You should be healed by now."
"She can't do anything like that for five months," Rain said with narrowed eyes as he moved back in between them.
"Maybe I'll be able to fool around without your little buddy in a month or so," she winked.
"Little buddy? You're joking, right? I dare you to find one bigger than mine," he smirked.
She turned to him. "I was talking about using your fingers dumb ass," she groaned. Rolling her eyes she started to class.
"Oh come on. Where's the fun in that? You still have lips right?"
"I don't do that crap when told to. And when I have sex, it's not about the other player, it's about me." She waved him off as she walked in class.
Rain followed in behind her, looking back as Clay flicked him off. "Be careful, Fiona. You're not to your normal butt kicking level."
"I'm not afraid of Clay, Rain," she said as she sat down.
"I wouldn't be so certain. He said a lot of badabout you while you were gone. A lot of people seem to think that...you deserve...what happened to you."
"They say that every time I get fucked up by James or...fall down the stairs."
He looked over at her. "Do you fall down the stairs often?"
"Sometimes."
"You don't really strike me as the clumsy type."
"Not normally."
"I see... And do these clumsy trips...happen when your parents are home?"
"Shut up, Rain," she said calmly and put her headphones in.
He frowned and looked back at his book. People had been talking a lot since she'd been gone. He'd heard whispers and rumors.
The day went on as normal...until she got that random call about her mother showing up. She stood in class and straightened her clothes. Part of her blamed Rain because maybe if he didn't say anything about her parents, they wouldn't have shown up. It always amazed her that her parents only came while she was in school and never visited her house.
Going outside she glanced at the school as the kids gathered by the windows.
"What's going on?" He followed everyone to the windows, seeing Fiona walk out to a woman who looked like her...just older. Was that her mother?
"What the hell is this?" her mother snapped and handed her Fiona's card bill.
"I didn't go over my allowance. I've been saving my allowance for months. I had more than enough to-"
"Paying for some fucking freeloader's bills?!? We don't give you money to give out, Fiona!" she screamed.
"I wasn't giving it out. They let me stay at their place. I couldn't walk, mother. I tried to call and-"
She was cut off when her mother back handed her. Fiona hit the ground, spitting out blood. "Get up. You are embarrassing me." Fiona struggled and stood. "Stop making a fool of yourself and grow up. You are always getting into fucking trouble! Can't you just for once fade into the fucking background and stay quiet!?"
"I'm trying!" Fiona yelled. That earned her another hit but before she could hit the ground her mother grabbed her and threw her in the car.
It was nearly thirty minutes later when the car came back from a trip around the block. Fiona stepped out and a compact mirror was throw and her. The car spun off. Fiona looked at the mirror and held it up so she could cover the bruises and wounds with makeup.
"Fiona!" Rain quickly stood from the steps and rushed to her. As he drew closer, he saw all the bruises on her. "Your mother did this to you?" What kind of parent could hit their kids like this?
"Those stairs are a bitch," she said while she put the makeup on.
"You should get that looked at. That can't be good after you're just recovering."
"I'll be fine. I got a first aid kit at home." Just as she closed the compact, her limo pulled up. "I'll see you later."
"Let me come with you. You shouldn't go home to an empty house after that."
"It's not that big of a deal. Think of it...as my punishment, my mother's 'grounding,'" she smirked and crawled in the limo.
Biting his lip, he quickly crawled into the limo beside her and pulled the door shut. "No, that's beating...."
"I'm not a charity case."
"Neither am I. Neither is my mother. Yet you took a beating because of us."
"You have no idea why she did what she did," she said as the limo took off. "Should you call your mother?"
"I'll call her from your house if it's okay. And your mother wasn't exactly...quiet when she was yelling at you."
"She has a big mouth," she admitted. They were silent for a while before the limo pulled up to her house. She opened the door and walked inside her house.
He joined her inside, forgetting just how large it truly was. His entire house could fit inside her entrance area. Tossing her bag down, she pulled off her school jacket then her tie as she climbed the stairs and went to her room. Following her upstairs, he took her phone and called his mother. Letting her know that he went over to Fiona's house, but leaving out the part where she was beaten by her mother. Fiona pulled her shirt off in her room then moved to her bathroom. The first aid kit was set up on the table like always. She washed the makeup off her and pulled out the pads to put alcohol on her cuts.
He was blushing as he entered her bathroom, his eyes covered by his hand. "Do you want me to help you with that?"
"I'm in my bra, Rain, you can look," she said while she worked. Slowly he peeked through his fingers. He was still blushing, but at least he was staring at her now. Taking the pad from her hands, he moved beside her and began to tend to her wounds. "You don't have to. I'm use to doing it myself."
"Yes, well you don't have to do to it by yourself anymore."
"You really like having someone to take care of don't you?"
"I'm just lucky you have no regard for your personal health," he said with a smile. Of course that smile was just for show, he was really worried about her. He saw all the bruises where her mother beat her. She was always protecting him from bullies, but what could he do to protect her? She watched him move the pad over her. After she was cleaned up, she started putting things away. "Does this happen a lot?"
"You ask too many questions."
"You've said that before, and yet I still haven't learned my lesson." His lips moved into a smirk.
She smiled. "You should learn." Moving from the bathroom, she went to the closet for some clothes.
While she moved to her closet, he sat down on her bed and toyed with one of her pillows, trying to figure out what they should do next. He had to do something. He couldn't just stand by and let this happen to her. She pulled out a dress and took off her skirt before putting it on. He blushed as he saw her panties. Quickly looking away, he cleared his throat. After putting her dress on, she pushed her long locks from her face and crawled on the bed, pulling him down to lay next to her. Laying down next to her, he felt his heart beat increase as their faces laid just inches from each other.
"You should go home. I don't honestly know what to do with you here."
"I believe...for once I know something you don't," he said, his arm slowly wrapping around her waist as he pulled her against him.
Her eyes scanned him. "What are you doing?" she asked as she stiffened.
"Holding you," he said as if that was obvious.
"I...don't cuddle."
"This isn't cuddling...I don't think. It's holding. There's a difference...I think."
"Well I don't do 'holding' either."
"You seem to be doing it now." She pulled from him. He sighed softly. "Okay...you don't do holding." He was disappointed. He was actually good at that, and he liked it.
She rolled on her back and looked at the ceiling. She had never had a boy lay in her bed without doing something with him. She honestly didn't know what she was suppose to do.
"So, now that you're better. Do you want to go to the opera this weekend?"
"I suppose we can."
"For someone who loves the opera, you don't seem all that enthused."
"I don't normally get enthused about much."
"Yeah, I've kind of noticed. You're the exact opposite of me. I can't help but get enthused and excited."
She turned to look at him and pushed some hair from his face. "I lost the excitement a long time ago."
"Why?"
"There is nothing to be excited about in my life."
"Well, there's nothing exactly spectacular about mine. That's why you have to appreciate the small things. Like being able to go to the opera with someone you care about."
"You shouldn't care about me so much, Rain. I'm not a good person," she smirked. "I'll only use and hurt you."
"I know," he admitted. "But I still think it's worth it."
"Then don't cry when it's over."
"I make no promises," he smirked.
She smiled then turned to look back at the ceiling. His hand slipped down and took her hand as he looked over at her. She wasn't into holding, but maybe he could get away with holding hands.
She pulled her hand from him almost instantly. "Stop trying to make me your girlfriend."
"I didn't realize that holding hands meant you were my girlfriend."
"What does it mean then? The holding and cuddling and the hand holding?"
"It means...." What did it mean exactly? "It means I care about you, and want to have you close."
"Girlfriend."
"No! Not entirely."
"You're a liar. I so am not taking credit for that."
He pouted as he closed his eyes. "You're going to end up growing bored with me. You know it and I know it. What would be the harm of trying the girlfriend thing if we both know it will only be for a little while?"
"Because Clay would kill you, or try to at least."
"I could live with that."
"And why would I be a girlfriend with you when I don't get any of the perks. I can just be plain Fiona and have sex with Clay whenever I want."
Why? Because he would treat her right. Not that she really cared about anything like that. No, she needed something else. Taking a deep breath, he tried not to fidget when he answered. "B-because you would have the perks if you were."
She turned to him and moved on her side so she could look at him. "No."
"What? Why?" he asked as his eyes opened and he looked at her.
"I don't do anything with anyone unless they want it. You don't want it. You would give yourself to me for what? Holding hands and cuddling? That's retarded and you should be little yourself like that."
"I wouldn't give myself to you for that. I'd give it for you because you've made a mark in my life." Her eyes hardened as he glared at him, trying to see if he was lying. He just stared at her with his normal wide eyed innocent expression.
"Alright. We can try it. But if I break up with you and you cry, I'm beating the hell out of you."
"You're really going back home?" Rain asked, not bother to hide his disappointment.
