Ch. 1 Enter the Slow

Silence overcame the room. Hearing only the scratching of lead against paper and people moving in their seat. Eight small school desks were lined up in front of a much larger desk. The room was small and would have been cramped if their were any more desks in the room. Each desk was occupied by an adolescent. Working hard on the small paper atop their desk. Behind the large desk in the front of the classroom was a young man. His arms crossed and leaning against his chair as he eyed each student with a bored expression. He held in a yawn. His eyes continued to scan each student until he stopped on a certain adolescent female. Who was biting down on her lower lip and scribbling like mad onto the paper. She seemed so concentrated on what she was doing that she didn't notice him watching her.

She had short mahogany colored hair and large emerald eyes. She seemed a lot younger then she really was. The girl stopped suddenly and looked up from the paper. Meeting eyes with the man that sat at the large desk in the front. Before he could look away she gave him a warm smile and just went back on what she was doing. The man felt relief overwhelm him. He sighed and got up, walking to the door.

I'll be right back. I expect you all to be quiet. Eloin, write any names of the people talking.” At hearing her name the red headed girl looked up. Hearing her command she smiled confidently and gave a small salute.

Yes sir!” she replied. All the other students grumbled in annoyance. The man gave a small shy smile to Eloin before leaving the room. Eloin went right to work. She grabbed an extra piece of paper and anyone that dared whisper had their name permanently on the paper. She didn't really care about the other people around her. They were here because they got in trouble. She was here because she was beginning to fail.

This was detention.

The man sighed as he walked down the hallway of the school. Pushing a door open on the side of the hallway and entering the teachers lounge. He would soon be rid of this school. He tried to smile with the thought but their was something painful when he thought of leaving. He bit his lip in thought. He couldn't believe, after a week of being the substitute for detention, he already had a favorite student. And he thought about how the student really didn't deserve detention. He sighed again. This was none of his business, he might as well not think about it at all. The man glanced around, noticing that there was one more person in the room.

Hey Giddy, already getting tired?” asked the young adolescent. He was still a teen and went to class like the others. But he was also the hall monitor at this period so he had permission into the teacher lounge. The man glared at him for a second before just deciding to ignore the adolescent. The young teen had dark brown hair with black highlights. It was gelled and stood up in the normal bad boy hair style. Wearing baggy navy pants and a loose shirt with the words `beat it' highlighted in yellow since the shirt itself was black. His eyes were a light brown.

That's Gideon.” Growled the man, correcting the way the student had said his name. Gideon really didn't like this student. He did not trust the young teen enough for him to be hall monitor. And mostly, being in the teachers' lounge was something he shouldn't be doing at the moment. He should be out there, well, hall monitoring. Gideon decided just to ignore him. Taking out a dollar from his pocket he inserted it into the coke machine and soon had a diet coke in his hand.

Are you trying to lose weight Gideon?” the young adolescent asked. Grimacing on purpose when Gideon's name rolled off his tongue as he pointed at the diet coke in his hand. Gideon ignored him and just opened the cap on the soda bottle and took in big gulps. Walking out of the teachers lounge without giving any recognition to the teen. He glared at the floor as he walked. Fuming inside from trying not to strangle that student. He would go to jail if he ever tried anything like that. Finally the anger left as he opened the detention door. He was met with silence and students scuffling about. He looked to each student warily before walking to his desk. Soon Eloin was standing in front of his desk and handed him a piece of paper. He read over it. Finding the names of every student in the class room, even Eloin's. Gideon looked up confusingly at Eloin.

You wrote your own name?” Gideon asked. Eloin laughed nervously. Scratching the top of her head with her hand.

Well, I spoke to ask a guy what his name was so I could write it down.” She replied honestly. Behind her a young man cursed under his breath. Gideon smiled up at Eloin.

Well, thank you.” He nodded his head. Eloin smiled and went back to her seat. Ignoring the glares she was getting from the others around her.

The bell rang an hour later and Eloin jumped form her seat, grabbed her stuff and practically ran out the door. Making Gideon curious as to her sudden departure.

Eloin walked as fast as she could, actually walking, and not getting in trouble with the teachers. She smiled happily as she opened the large gym doors and entered the gym. No one was here yet but, that was only because she was early. The large gym was like any other. Built to be a basketball court, but easily used for other things. On the side were the dark blue plastic bleachers that were attached to the wall. Eloin ran with her things into a door beside the bleachers, down a hallway, and into the girls' locker room.

As you can probably notice…Eloin likes gym.

Sweet little bumblebee, I know what you want from me,” she began to sing and hum as she got undressed and opened her small box locker and took out her gym uniform. “Sweet little bumblebee, more then just a fantasy,” Soon other girls were joining her into the locker room. Not minding Eloin singing since she sang every single day when in the locker room. No one had a day when Eloin was quiet. “My heart skips a beat when you walk in the room, I go boom, boom, boom, you go zoom, zoom, zoom,” girls that knew the song started to hum it. It was rather catchy after all. “You're my playboy, play toy, love and my friend; I wanna be with you until the end.”

Eloin jumped as the coach peaked into the locker room. “Hurry up!” she barked, before leaving the girls to change once again. Eloin didn't dare open her mouth again as she pushed her sneakers on and ran out the locker room, sitting on the first row on the bleachers. Soon she was waiting for the others to join her. She was getting too bored and she still had the song stuck in her head so she sang it in a whisper. “I give my heart and my soul to you, to make you see it's true, I'm so confused baby can't you see, please come rescue me,” Eloin stopped as the other girls sat beside and behind her on the bleachers. Eloin was rather jumpy and excited as her best friend Ria sat beside her.

Ria was a cute young girl like Eloin. She had long black hair and some were tied back into a ponytail that had a yellow bow attached to it. Her eyes were a dark brown and she was the perfect description of cute. Sometimes Eloin could have gotten jealous over Ria's looks but, she really didn't care for such things.

What was that song you were singing earlier?” she asked. Eloin grinned.

Bumble bee. Just go on You Tube and put in bumble bee. I'd suggest putting a hyphen and Furuba.” Eloin replied. Ria smiled in return but was still curious. “Oh, okay…what's Furuba?” Ria asked as a second thought. Eloin giggled and was about to reply when the coach blew her whistle.

Today we will be playing volley ball.” Stated their coach. Everyone grumbled in annoyance as Eloin squealed in excitement. Ria sighed and shook her head at Eloin's antics. But couldn't hold in a small smile. Nothing was boring with Eloin around. Never knew what she was going to do next.

Soon they were all situated on the court. Volley ball net set and ready. One girl served and the game began. Eloin was ready for it to come to her. Ria expected Eloin to get hit in the head or something. That was just the way clumsy Eloin was. But she was surprised to see that Eloin seemed to have a knack for it. Eloin linked her hands together and hit the ball upward with her upper arms.

Have you played volleyball before?” Ria asked. Being cautious of the ball since the game was still on. Eloin glanced behind her and at Ria before back on the net.

Nah, I just seem to have a knack for anything sports related.” She replied. Half-way gloating in a sense. Ria looked at her confusingly before going back to the game.

It was too late though, the ball was zooming right at her and she had no time to think as it smacked her right in the face. She fell backwards and onto her rump where she just stared into space. Her mind not clicking on what had just happened, as the ball bounced away.

Eloin held back her laughter as she stood beside Ria. Her pointing finger wagging down at Ria as she sat there.

Sheesh Ria, you should pay attention more.” Eloin said with a teasing smirk. Ria blinked up at Eloin before sending her a glare. Eloin laughed nervously and hurriedly walked away. Ria got up and ran to catch up to her. Planning to let out her anger of her humiliation out on Eloin. Soon Eloin was running around screaming as Ria followed right behind her.

Stop now!!” Eloin and Ria stopped in there tracks and glanced fearfully at there gym teacher. She glared at the both of them as she walked forward and in front of there faces. Eloin and Ria gulped in unison, expecting the worst. The coach stopped in front of the two and brought her eyes on Eloin. Her mood suddenly changed from angry to excited.

Eloin, I couldn't help but notice your natural talent in volleyball, you should really think of joining the team.” She stated. Eloin looked nervously at Ria. Seeing she was as stunned as she was. Eloin gave a sad smile to her gym teacher.

I'm sorry Ms. Peterson, but I have other things I need to attend to, busy schedule ya know?” she flat out lied. She had nothing to do at all. Nothing school related at least. She just went home, got on the internet, read a few comic books, watched TV, eat…and sleep. That was it. But she'd rather not include volleyball practice to that schedule…she liked her schedule actually. Ria seemed to know that too as she looked at her with a accusing glare.

Ms. Peterson frowned but nodded her head. Seeming to understand. She was about to speak again but there was a sudden ruckus in the group of teen girls that were standing around. Eloin and Ria followed Ms. Peterson to the crowd. There curiosity getting a hold of them both. When they found their way through the crowd, they were shocked to see two girls fighting each other. One swiping at the air and, well, fighting like a girl and the other throwing in punches and some pushes too. Ms. Peterson didn't hesitate as she put herself between the two fighting girls and separated them with her hands holding their shoulders tightly.

What is going on here!?” asked the coach angrily.

That bitch was trying to pick a fight with me! Well, you got what you wanted stupid!” yelled the girl on the right. She had light brown hair tied up in a ponytail and had dark brown eyes. She glared at the other girl who seemed beaten up pretty bad.

Well then, you need to stay away from Yamamoto!!” yelled the other. This girl had long blonde hair and wore a blue bandana over her forehead. Blue eyes glaring angrily at the other girl. They continued to bicker as the coach led them away.

Yamamoto?” Eloin asked confusingly. Ria sighed in depression.

Yeah, Yamamoto is the last name of the new guy.” Ria explained. Eloin looked at her blankly for a while before looking away and shrugging.

Don't know him; do you know those two girls?” Eloin asked. Ria nodded her head. Ria was rather good at knowing who everyone was.

The one with the ponytail was Lillian, the other one was Brittney.” Eloin blinked in thought. This was all new to her.

Huh. I know Brittney. Isn't she the leader of the cheerleaders?” Ria nodded. Eloin was starting to make sense of everything had just happened. She furrowed her brows and patted her lower lip with her index finger.

Sooo, they were fighting over that Yamamoto new guy?” Ria nodded and sighed once again. Closing her eyes.

Yeah, that Koru had become rather popular with the ladies. But he isn't the only one-“
Eloin interrupted her, waving her hand as if to dismiss her. “Yeah, yeah, whatever I lost interest.” She yawned and began to walk away. Trying to not notice Ria glaring at her from behind. Eloin snickered and turned around, sticking her tongue out at Ria, and soon she was chasing Eloin around the gym, threatening her as she waved her fist in the air.

Eloin sighed as she walked to her next class. That was the most excitement she had all day at school since…forever. She walked into the classroom, sitting at her desk as she glanced around for her friend Ria who had the same class as her. Eloin leaned over to ask the girl behind Ria's desk.

Where's Ria?” she asked the girl. The girl snickered.

Probably in the closet with Synge.” Responded the girl, giggling madly. Eloin stared at the girl with her eyes wide. Mouth agape in a small o as she straightened herself in her desk.

Closet…?” she asked out loud. She looked out the class room door and into the hallway, noticing her detention teacher Gideon. She jumped out of her seat and ran out to catch up with him.

Gideon, I need to ask you something.” She called to him. Gideon stopped and turned to Eloin with a curious expression.

Yes Eloin, what is it?” he asked trying not to seem in a hurry but it was rather obvious.

What does it mean when two people go into a closet?” Silence. Complete and total silence as Gideon stared wide-eyed down at Eloin who was waiting patiently for an answer. A curious look on her face. So, he knew she was being serious. Gideon glanced around nervously. All the while pondering if he should really tell her or not.

Um…it means that they need to tell someone a secret and don't want anyone else to hear.” He lied. Blinking up at the ceiling in thought. Eloin looked at him curiously. Her brows furrowing together in thought before she nodded her head.

Well…that makes sense…” her teacher called for her so Eloin had to go. She waved goodbye to Gideon and ran back into the classroom before the bell rang.
