Branslav pulled his black SUV to a stop in front of the hotel and Robert walked out from behind one of the pillars that lined the driveway, pulling his rolling suitcase behind him. He was dressed in black sweater, a leather motorcycle jacket, had on black knit gloves and rather worn looking jeans as well as a pair of black motorcycle boots. He looked at Betty and gave her a tiny smile when she waved at him. Branslav waved as well as his friend approached.
Betty couldn't help but notice, in spite of the smile, Robert looked very troubled. His face was blotchy like he had been crying and the way he carried himself made her wonder if he was upset. She then noticed his hands, her thoughts changing direction. They were bandaged and wondered what had happened.
" Let him sit up front, " Branslav's voice brought her back to reality. " He hates the backseat. "
" Sure, " Betty said, surprised he had asked her to change seats though she was his date. She felt a bit hurt by the request but decided she didn't want to cause a fuss so she opened the door and got out. She stopped when she felt a hand on her back as she bent over to grab her purse. She straightened then shivered when she realized Robert was right behind her.
" Where are you going? " He asked.
" I was getting in the back, " Betty turned to face him. " Branslav said you hate the backseat. "
Robert smiled, " I was going to sit there unless you don't mind being back there. "
" I don't, " Betty said. " I'd rather you be comfortable. "
" That's so sweet of you, " He smiled. Robert looked at her attire. He was unable to control himself when he commented, " You look hot. "
" Thanks, " Betty blushed a little. She thought she smelled alcohol on his breath but it was mixed with the smell of mint. She wasn't for sure if it was just mouthwash or if he was trying to cover something up.
" I don't know if I mentioned it the other night but you looked pretty good then too, " Robert said. He gazed at her, trying to memorize every line of her face.
" Thank you, " Betty said, his scrutiny making her a little uneasy. " You looked pretty nice after the game once you got dressed. "
" You're welcome, " Robert brought his hand up and put it on Betty's shoulder " And thank you. "
" You're welcome as well, " Betty said quietly.
" So you ready to go out and have some fun? " Robert arched an eyebrow. He noticed Betty was acting rather shy and he found it cute.
" Hey, " Branslav said when he saw Robert was touching Betty. He had heard them talking but he didn't catch much since they were on the other side of the car and were speaking quietly. " Would you two just get in? "
" Okay, " Robert sighed as he took his hand off of Betty's shoulder.
" Sure, " Betty slipped past Robert and got into the back. Her heart raced from his touch and it left her feeling unsettled. The way he had behaved made her wonder if he had been drinking.
" Could you lean the seat forward so I can put my suitcase in the back? " Robert rolled his suitcase to Betty's door.
" No problem, " Betty found the way to unhook the seat and leaned it forward. Robert hoisted his suitcase up and shoved it in the back. She then put the seat back up and Robert shut her door.
Robert jumped in the front and shut his door before fastening his seatbelt. He glanced at Betty then at Branslav. " Sorry if I'm intruding on your plans for this afternoon. "
" Not at all, " Branslav said though he didn't mean it. He sniffed the air then looked at Robert. He could detect the smell of alcohol.
" What? " Robert arched an eyebrow. He could tell by the look on Branslav's face he had been found out. He had to have a drink or three to help him wear a brave face for the world but tried to play it off.
Branslav shook his head as another car pulled in front of him and blocked his way out. He waited for it to move, " Nothing. "
" So where are we going? " Robert looked at Branslav then at Betty. ~Damn. She's so pretty today, ~ He thought, as he looked at her again.
" I got reservations at that steakhouse we used to go to when you were with the team, " Branslav started. He glanced over to see Robert staring a bit too long at Betty. He wondered what was going on but decided that Robert had also noticed how nice Betty looked.
" Awesome, " Robert smiled as he looked at Branslav. " We had a lot of good times there. "
" Yeah, " Branslav agreed as the other car finally moved.
" Then where? " Robert arched an eyebrow.
Branslav pulled out of the driveway of the hotel and headed for the road. He glanced at Betty in the rear view mirror, " I was going to take her to 'Fixation'. "
" Oh really? " Robert glanced at Betty. " I hear that's an awesome club. Lots of hot chicks hang out there. Are you sure you want to take her there? "
Branslav cut his eyes towards Robert as he wondered what he was trying to say, " Yes. "
" Settle down boy, " Robert put his hand up. He realized that Branslav was taking his comment entirely the wrong way. " I was just scared if you took her there, the other girls would get jealous. "
Betty felt herself blush again as she smiled at Robert's words and decided to reply to it so she didn't seem too nervous. " Flattery will get you everywhere, " She smiled.
Robert turned to look at her, " Oh really now? "
Betty nodded, " But at least you're safe. "
" Safe? " Robert looked puzzled. He wondered if Betty meant his straight-laced reputation.
" You're married and can't do anything but flirt, " Betty replied.
Robert let out a strained chuckle. He realized she didn't know what had happened after he went home and decided not to let on. " That's right. Don't get offended then if I flirt with you some then. "
" I won't, " Betty nodded. " As long as it's just flirting. "
Branslav sighed at the exchange and got out his cell phone. " I need to call the steakhouse and make sure they can add you on, Robert. "
" Go ahead, " Robert said as Branslav pulled to a stop at a red light. He gave Betty a mischievous look then unbuckled his seatbelt. He wanted to get in the back with her since he was getting a crick in his neck from looking at her over his shoulder so much.
" What are you doing? " Branslav asked as he stopped dialing the number for the steakhouse. He watched as Robert unlocked the doors, " We're in traffic. "
Robert didn't reply as he got out of the car and got into the back with Betty. " Hey there, " Betty giggled as he reached over the passenger seat to re-lock the doors. He sat down and smirked. " What's up? "
" What did you do that for? " Betty couldn't help but ask.
" I wanted to sit back here with you. My neck is starting to hurt from looking back here all the time, " Robert said. " This way, it'll be easier for us to talk. "
" Oh, " Betty said. " So you don't mind sitting back here if it's with me? "
" Yeah, " Robert smirked. " Pretty much. "
Branslav glared at Robert in the rear view then continued to dial the number for the steakhouse. The line was busy and the light changed so he put down his phone. " I couldn't get through. We'll just take our chances. "
" Sure, " Robert waved his hand. " Don't worry about it. I'm sure they'll be able to work me in. "
Betty was quiet as she tried to think of something to say. She hadn't expected him to change seats on account of her and found it a little crazy but charming. She then remembered something she was curious about. " So how did the other night go? "
" The other night? " Robert furrowed his brow. He then realized what Betty was talking about and frowned. " Oh. That. "
" I guess it didn't go well then? " Betty shrank back from his reaction. " I didn't mean to cause trouble. "
" You didn't and I told you then you didn't cause any trouble, " Robert took Betty's hand in his. " Don't think for one minute you were. "
" But I... " Betty started but Robert silenced her with a fingertip.
Robert shivered inwardly at the softness of her lips but tried not to let on to Betty he had a reaction. " No, " Robert said. " You had nothing to do with it. You were a bystander like the rest of the guys. Understand? "
Betty nodded and Robert took his finger from her lips slowly, surprised when she shivered. She blushed, " Sorry. Someone just walked over my grave when you did that, " She stammered as she looked away.
Robert scooted closer to the door to give her some space, " Oh. "
Branslav glanced up in the rear view mirror when he realized he had missed something. He noted Betty looked a little red. " Is everything okay back there? "
" Yes, " Betty and Robert said in unison.
Branslav arched an eyebrow, " Okay. Hey Robert? "
" Yeah man? " Robert said.
" Why do you have your suitcase? " Branslav was curious. He hadn't remembered any discussion about Robert staying over.
Robert furrowed his brow then said, " Oh. I just wanted to be prepared in case we ended up staying out too late. That way I can just crash at your place if we do. "
Branslav frowned but didn't say anything else because he was getting close to the steakhouse. He had to concentrate on getting through the traffic and decided to discuss things with Robert later.
**
Betty, Branslav and Robert were having a fantastic time at the steakhouse. It seemed Betty had finally relaxed enough to enjoy herself. The three of them had talked about all sorts of stuff and Robert found out he had a lot more in common with Betty than he had even imagined. Branslav had a few things in common with her too but it seemed Robert had the most.
Branslav and Betty both had been shocked when Robert took off his gloves, revealing his bandaged hands. When questioned, Robert told them he had an accident and not to worry. He avoided any more questions about the subject so they moved on, discussing other things. Most of the conversing was going on between Betty and Robert with Branslav jumping in every so once in awhile to agree or disagree.
Branslav was starting to feel a little left out though. He felt Robert wasn't giving him much of a chance to talk to Betty at all. He was certain they had just as much in common but when he'd think of something, Robert would think of something too and say it first. What irked him even more was the fact that it seemed Betty was hanging on Robert's every word.
Betty finished her glass of tea and narrowed her eyes. “ Robert? “ She asked as she held the glass. “ I distinctly remember ordering tea. “
Robert smirked, “ And that’s what you got. “
“ I don’t think so, “ Betty said as she set the glass down. She also recalled Robert getting up after they placed the drink orders but, since her back was to the bar, she didn’t know what he had done after he left her line of sight. “ Tea doesn’t make me feel funny. “
" Funny? How? " Branslav asked.
" I don't know. I feel kind of loose, " Betty said. A slow silly grin spread across her lips " Like I'm relaxed and happy for no reason whatsoever. "
“ Well regular iced tea doesn't do that to you but Long Island Iced Tea does, “ Robert replied with a sly grin.
Branslav looked at Robert, " What did you do to her drink? "
“ Nothing. I just changed her drink order, “ Robert motioned to the waiter. " She needed to loosen up a bit and have some fun. Let me order her another one. "
“ No, “ Betty sat back in the chair. She couldn't recall if she had even mentioned the fact she didn't drink to either man. " One's enough for me. "
“ Oh? You can’t hold you liquor? “ Robert asked playfully.
Betty shook her head, “ That's not it. “
" Then what is it? " Robert asked.
" I don't drink that often, " Betty said. She didn't drink at all but she didn't want to look awkward in front of the guys by admitting it.
" Oh then you should be a cheap drunk then, " Robert smiled. He gave her the sweetest smile " Get your feet wet girl. You only live once. "
Betty thought about it and he was right. She decided it wouldn't hurt to have a little fun. " Okay then. Maybe just this once. "
" No, " Branslav said sharply. He wasn't too hot on the idea of Robert getting Betty drunk when he had planned to ease her into it slowly with much weaker drinks. Robert was wrecking another thing he had planned out for the evening.
" Why not? " Robert glared at Branslav.
" Don't make her drink more if she doesn't want to, " Branslav stepped in. Though he had intended to get her a little drunk, he hoped his bid at chivalry would make a good impression on Betty. " Let her make up her own mind and don't talk her into it either. "
Robert sighed then looked at Betty, " When you want another one, let me know and I'll order it for you. "
" Okay, " Betty nodded. She hated to admit it but she kind of liked the way the drink had made her feel. She had liked the way it tasted and wondered if she could handle another one.
Robert motioned to the waiter again and ordered another rum and coke. It was going to be his third and Branslav frowned, unsure of how much Robert had drunk before he left the hotel. " Maybe you should hold off until we get the food, " He suggested.
" Nah, " Robert waved his hand. " I can handle another one of these. The ones here are weak. You know that. "
" Are those good? " Betty asked as she pointed to the empty glass. .
" What? Rum and coke? " Robert furrowed his brow. " Yeah. Why? Haven't you had one before? "
" No, " Betty said. She looked embarrassed as she pointed to her empty glass. She decided to bite the bullet and tell the truth, " That was my first Long Island Iced Tea. "
" Ever? " Robert furrowed his brow.
Betty nodded, " Yes. "
" It is good, " Robert smiled at Branslav then looked at Betty. " I'll order you one if you want to try it for yourself. "
" Only if they're weak like you say, " Betty said. She figured a little rum and coke wouldn't hurt since Robert said they weren't potent.
" You can't even taste the booze at all, " Robert said. " You could probably drink two and still feel okay. "
" Hey, " Branslav said sharply. " That one drink she just had was equal to the strength of three. "
" Really? " Betty was surprised. " It was that strong? "
Branslav nodded, " Yes. You should be careful with hard liquor. It'll knock you on your ass if you're not used to it. "
" I won't let her get too drunk, " Robert reached over and patted Branslav's shoulder. " Just let her have some fun. You should get a drink too and stop being such choir boy. I remember back in the day, I used to have to drag your drunk ass out of here more than once. "
Betty looked at Branslav in surprise, " Really now? "
Branslav looked away, " Yeah. It was just a few times though. "
" Bullshit, " Robert said. " I had to keep my drinking down so I could get your ass home. "
Branslav glared at Robert. He had wanted to give Betty a good impression but Robert was ruining it. " Well I don't drink like that any more, " Branslav looked at Betty. " I was young and stupid. "
" No. It's okay if you drink, " Betty put her hand up. " I just don't... normally. "
The waiter returned with Robert's drink. " Thanks, " Robert looked at the waiter then at Branslav. " Could you bring two more for my friends? "
" Two more rum and cokes coming up, " The waiter said and left.
" I said I didn't want one, " Branslav said.
" Oh come on, " Robert said. " Stop being such a pussy. "
" I'm not being a pussy, " Branslav glared at Robert.
" Please? " Betty put her hands on his when she noticed the look he was giving Robert. " Let's just have fun. I thought that's why you asked me out in the first place. "
Branslav thought about it. She was right and he really didn't want to ruin the night by fighting with Robert. He sighed in resignation, " Okay. We'll have fun. "
" That's a boy, " Robert smiled. " This will be a night we wish we could remember. "
**
Betty thought as she looked at the GPS in Branslav’s car, trying to figure out the thing. She had never driven anything as big as the SUV and her nervousness was making it hard to concentrate on the task at hand, getting the guys home safely. She had sobered up enough to drive before Branslav and Robert so she was the designated driver. After much encouraging, Branslav had given in and drank almost as much as Robert and was passed out in the passenger seat with his face pressed up against the window.
Robert had passed out shortly after crawling into the backseat, snoring gently. He had danced rather energetically at the club in addition to putting away a few more drinks so it didn't surprise Betty he was so exhausted. Most of his dancing involved bumping and grinding against her but she was having fun and dancing didn't mean anything. Branslav had even gotten into it, dancing behind her as Robert danced in front.
Betty had drank only one rum and coke in addition to her Long Island Iced Tea, the effects of the alcohol making her feel a little more daring. If she hadn't been drunk, she wouldn't have even been on the dance floor. The booze made her feel like having fun though and she did have fun. Now, that it was wearing off, she was feeling impatient and easily frustrated.
Betty took a deep breath and started pushing the most logical buttons until she got the directions to Branslav’s house to come onto the screen. “ Excellent, “ She muttered.
She heard a snort from the backseat and felt a hand fall on her shoulder. “ What’s excellent baby? “ Robert said as he tried to pull himself forward.
“I just figured out how to recall previous trips on the GPS. I’m taking Branslav and you home, “ Betty said. She shrugged Robert’s hand off, " You're pulling my shoulder over the back of the seat. "
“ Sorry. What time is it? “ Robert had a little more luck pulling up once he had a hold of the seat. He hooked his chin over Betty's shoulder as he strained to see the clock. “ Tell me what it says. I can't see it. “
“ It’s two, “ Betty said. " You want go back to the hotel? "
" No hotel, " Robert said. " I'm crashing at Branslav's. "
“ Oh. Okay, “ Betty said as she guided the car onto the street. “ Now, I just got my driver's license about a year ago... “
Robert sat straight up, “ What? “ He almost shouted. Branslav didn’t stir though. He was out like a light.
“ Calm down, “ Betty replied calmly. “ I'm a good driver but I've never driven anything like this. My car is really small compared to this beast. “
" Oh, " Robert said. " You scared me for a minute. "
" Sorry, " Betty sighed.
There was a long silence then Robert put his chin on Betty's shoulder again, " So did you have fun tonight? "
Betty nodded, “ Yeah I guess so. "
" You guess? " Robert said. " I don't want you guessing if you had a good time. I want to know if you did or if you didn't. "
" Oh okay then, " Betty said and thought about it. " The dancing was fun but you practically were molesting me out there and making me think things I didn’t want to think about you. “
“ Oh really? “ Robert arched an eyebrow.
" Yeah, " Betty nodded.
She had piqued Robert's interest. He gave her a seductive grin, “ Tell me more. “
“ No way. I don't want to get you all excited for nothing. It'd be wrong. You’ve got a wife and a kid, “ Betty shook her head, regretting she had been so truthful. “ I don’t want to be a home wrecker. “
“ Come on, “ Robert said. He was very curious to find out what she had thought about him. He moved closer to her ear before he whispered, “ You can tell me. What did you think about me? “
“ No way, “ Betty shivered from his breath on her ear. Betty had kind of enjoyed the dancing but knew that it couldn’t go any further. She didn't want to sleep with someone else's husband because it caused nothing but trouble. “ You’re married. That’s the end of the story. “
Robert smirked at her in the rear view as he pointed to Branslav, “ He was dancing with you too. Tell me what you were thinking about him then. “
“ Probably the same stuff I was thinking about you, “ Betty said. Branslav hadn't touched her nearly as much as Robert had. It was like he was almost afraid to touch her while Robert had his hands all over her, something else Betty attributed to the booze.
The GPS told her to turn so she did. “ G-Forces pulling, “ Robert said as he grabbed onto the seat. “ Must hold on… “
“ I warned you I couldn't drive something this big, “ Betty said once the turn was over.
“ Just take it a little easier. This thing has good steering. You drive this like it’s a go-cart, “ Robert narrowed his eyes.
Betty smiled, “ Funny. That’s what I have the most experience with. “
Robert looked curious, “ How come? "
“ I liked to hang out at the go-cart track and drive the cars around when I was a teenager. I even worked down there one summer before I got on at the hotel, “ Betty said.
“ Really? “ Robert became interested. “ What did you do there? "
Betty started to feel more comfortable with the direction the conversation was taking. Betty liked talking about the time she had spent at the cart park and she hoped it would get Robert's mind onto better subjects. “ I did all kinds of things. I kept the parking lot clean, worked the ticket booths and finally ended up being a track attendant. "
“ Oh. You were one of those people out on the track yelling at people? “ He said, knowing what she was talking about.
“ Yeah, “ Betty nodded.
“ Wow. I used to aim for them when I lived here “ Robert said.
Betty narrowed her eyes as the GPS said to make another turn. She watched as Robert braced himself but she eased into the turn. “ I hated the ones who aimed. I got clipped by quite a few. “
“ Oh. Sorry, “ Robert said. He then looked around, “ We should be getting close to Branslav’s place. “
The GPS indicated that Robert was indeed correct and Betty pulled into the drive a few moments later, easing the car around the house to the garage. Robert tapped Branslav on the shoulder, “ Huh? “ Branslav opened his eyes a little bit. “ Are we home? “
“ Yeah, “ Robert said.
" Great, " Branslav yawned as he sat up straight. " Damn. I hope I'm not going to be too hungover to play tomorrow. "
" Oh don't be a pussy, " Robert said. " You'll be fine. You didn't drink that much. "
Branslav narrowed his eyes at Robert then looked at Betty. " Thanks for driving us home. I would have gotten pulled over. "
" No problem, " Betty said.
" Let's go inside, " Robert said. " I'm tired. "
" Me too, " Branslav said then yawned.
" Wait, " Betty looked at them. " How am I supposed to get home tonight? "
Branslav looked at Robert then at Betty. " I had planned take you home after the club but I'm in no shape to drive and neither is Robert. "
" Just stay here baby, " Robert put his hand on her shoulder again. " We'll be good. "
Betty bit her lip then said, " What do I do about clothes to sleep in? "
" I'll lend you one of my shirts and a pair of shorts, " Branslav said. He realized he had messed up by drinking too much. He hadn't meant for the night to turn it out the way it had. He had planned on having a good time with Betty at the club and then he was going to take her home.
He had intended for the whole thing to be fairly innocent because he just wanted to get to know her a little better. He didn't want to make her uncomfortable but it seemed that was the way the night was heading. With Robert along, it made the situation that much more awkward. He wanted to scream because it hadn't gone the way he had hoped at all.
" Uh thanks, " Betty said. She could tell by the way Branslav and Robert looked at each other they knew she was uncomfortable with the idea of staying. She had never slept over at a guy's house before and found the idea unsettling.
Robert patted her on the shoulder, " Calm down honey. Everything will be all right. "
" Yeah, " Branslav said. " It's my fault. I shouldn't have drunk so much. It's the least I can do for you. "
Betty took the keys out of the ignition and held them out to Branslav. She sighed, " I guess I'll just have to make the best of it huh? "
Branslav took the keys, " Yeah. It won't be so bad. You can stay in my guest room and I'll get breakfast in the morning. "
" Think of it like a slumber party, " Robert added. He smirked, " With guys. "
Betty nodded, " Okay. "
" Let get inside, " Branslav said. " I'll get the guest room ready for you and Robert can sleep on the couch. "
" Great, I'll feel right at home there, " Robert got out and shut his door as Branslav shut the passenger side. Betty got out and shut her door before meeting the guys behind the car. Robert noticed Betty rubbing her hands together and put his arm around her shoulders. " Cold? "
" A bit, " Betty replied. She leaned against him because he was pulling her to him. He felt very warm and she was drawn to his heat in spite of the fact he smelled like booze.
" I'll keep you warm, " Robert murmured. He noticed something was missing so he asked, " Where's your jacket baby? "
" I forgot it, " Betty said. " I didn't think I'd be staying all night. "
" We'll be inside soon enough, " Branslav strode ahead to get the back door. He had felt a little jealous that Robert had offered Betty his concern before he could. He had tried to ignore the fact Robert had been capitalizing Betty's attention for most of the night. He couldn't bring himself to say anything though because he didn't want to hurt Robert's feelings.
Branslav got the back door open and ushered Betty and Robert inside before shutting the door. " You two go on to the kitchen. I have to get some things from the laundry room, " He motioned towards the tiny room.
" Sure buddy, " Robert waved his hand. He then smiled at Betty, " Shall I show you the way? "
`" Sure, " Betty cracked a nervous smile. Robert had been holding her so long, it had started to feel a little awkward.
Branslav went into the laundry room and grabbed a clean white shirt and pair of black shorts for Betty. He also got some sheets for the guest bedroom and two blankets. When he came out, he found that Robert had taken off his jacket and Betty had sat down at the kitchen table. He tried not to look to relieved about Robert letting her go, " I think I got everything. "
" Great, " Robert smiled. " I'm ready to get some sleep. "
" Well you can do that after you help me get the guest room ready, " Branslav walked over. He offered the shirt and shorts to Betty. " You can change in the downstairs bathroom if you want and we'll come get you when the bedroom is ready. I have to make the bed up for you. "
" Oh. Okay, " Betty took the clothes and watched as Branslav and Robert went upstairs. She looked at the clothes as she stood up, wondering where the bathroom was exactly. She went through the dining room towards a hall that ran across the side of it. She found there was two doors there but one was locked. She tried the next door and found it was the bathroom Branslav spoke of.
She went in and shut the door, locking it behind her. She felt around for the light switch then flipped them on. She out the clothes down and started to unbutton her blouse. She slid it off when it was totally unbuttoned.
She reached for the four hooks that held her bra closed, wondering if what she was doing was a good idea. She was scared to death of sleeping in strange places and being in the house with two guys made it even worse. It was true that Branslav was too drunk to drive and so was Robert. She really couldn't think of a way out of the situation.
She analyzed it from every angle and decided that it was for the best, even if it was making her terribly nervous. ~Guess I'm stuck. Might as well try to make the best of it, ~ She told herself as she continued to undress.
**
" So what happened? " Branslav asked as they walked into the room and over to the bed. He set the bedclothes on the bedside table.
" What happened where? " Robert furrowed his brow as Branslav unfolded the sheets. He tried to remember if something happened when Branslav was sleeping or if Branslav had left him alone with Betty for any length of time. " What are you talking about? "
Branslav rolled his eyes. " To your hands. You haven't said yet. "
Robert looked at his bandaged hands. He had managed to cut his hands up pretty good as he trashed the hotel room. He had one of the trainers wrap them up before he left the hotel and wore gloves so he wouldn't scare Branslav or Betty. He had snuck his gloves off in the restaurant hoping they wouldn't notice but they still did.
" Things got a little rough this morning, " Robert replied quietly.
" Obviously, " Branslav said. " What did you do? "
Robert sat down on the bed, slumping his shoulders, " I lost it when the lab called me. I couldn't help it. It wasn't until I was washing the blood off of my hands when I realized what I had done. "
" Robert? " Branslav knelt down in front of his friend. " What did you do? "
" I just lost it, " Robert sighed. " I tore my hotel room apart. I didn't feel anything. I didn't realize I was even bleeding until it was all over. "
Branslav frowned, feeling terrible that he had resented Robert's presence. He felt selfish for putting a girl in front of his best friend when he needed him most. " I... I don't know what to say Robert. "
" It's okay buddy, " Robert said. " You've never been through this so I don't expect you to know what to say. I just have to get through it on my own. Just be here for me, okay? "
" I'll try, " Branslav said.
Robert stood up slowly, " I'll tell you everything while we make the bed. There's a lady downstairs waiting to get some sleep. "
" Yeah, " Branslav said. " What do you want me to do though? "
" Just listen to a drunk man ramble, " Robert sighed.
Branslav nodded, " I think I can do that. "
