The night was humid, the moon more radiant then usual to the point the grass seemed to glow like the brightest stars. The tip of every blade of grass looked like the deadliest sword, light bouncing off the tips and creating magnifying sparkles. Damien sat on the wooden bench, smoothed out without a splinter or rot anywhere in it's construction. There had been a slight downpour of rain a few hours before but the bench had dried by then. Damien lifted his head up, Karaka coming his way. Damien was taken aback by how skimpy Karaka's outfit was, going so far as to show her midriff. He himself was dressed in a simple purple tanktop and black shorts with sandles. Karaka wore a black top that covered just a little more then her breast area, and skimpy jean shorts with black sandles. Karaka noticed the way he was looking at her.

"It's hot out, allright? If I came in anything more then this I'd collapse. So what did you want to talk about?" asked Karaka with annoyance. "Beth and I talked while waiting for your detention to end. She told me some details. Specifically, about you running away to become a Mercenary when you graduated" said Damien.

"What about it?" asked Karaka defensively. She shook her feet out, her feet becoming soaked by the moist grass.

"Listen, there are two mercenary groups in this region, and one of them is on the look out for a fourth member" said Damien. Karaka looked Damien over to make sure it was him. "I don't think you'll make it at all and will be running back in no time, but, you might as well learn first hand and close by. The Mahados is the name of the group" said Damien.

There was no immediate response other then the clenching of Karaka's fists. Damien looked up as if to check if she heard him. "I met those guys the other night, no way would I join them! Especially after that asshole Rivora hurt Beth like that!" said Karaka.

"If by some miracle you actually made it in, then you could start earning their respect, and if you can gain the respect of people of whom you can't stand, then I'd say you'd be one step closer to achieving your goal, wouldn't you?" asked Damien. Karaka sat at the bench beside him, lifting her legs up to keep them out of the grass. She began regretting she came out, her soaked feet, even in such humidity, nothing but an annoyance.

"I don't know" said Karaka. "It would probably annoy the hell out of them if they were given no choice but to accept you" said Damien.

"True" said Karaka.

"Listen, I have it on good authority they're going to be scouring the town on the night after your graduation looking for a fourth member. Show them your stuff, if you think you can truly make it" said Damien.

Which you won't. However you'll need to be faced with reality before you can accept it. I'll give them a mission to meet a friend of mine who needs help. Karaka will undoubtedly attempt to join them, then she'll fail. Then she will be vulnerable.

"Okay, I'll try it" said Karaka. She said and did nothing immidiately after, taking off her sandles and shaking them off quickly, then wiping them on the bench before butting them back on. "Hey, did you ever have a girlfriend before?" asked Karaka.

Damien was noticeably caught off guard by Karaka's question, fidgeting around a bit. "Well, no, but I used to have a friend who did. Unfortunately it was love at first sight, and it ended up being his last sight. When they broke up, she went ballistic and went as far as to accuse him of raping her. Sure, tests showed he was innocent, but, he might as well have been declared guilty. Lost all of his friends, except for me, and overall no one esle really wanted to be around him. He commited suicide about a couple weeks later" said Damien.

He recieved an uneasy glance from Karaka. She was sweating profusely in the humid night. Damien sweated but only a little, and he barely even noticed he was sweating. He waited in anticipation for Karaka's response.

"Why, would you tell me something like that?" asked Karaka. Damien shrugged.

"Well, I guess it goes to show sexism works both ways Karaka. If this, ahem, suicidal mission of yours were to be a success, you could be starting a slow process of removing the kind of advantages you have now. You girls really need more foresight" said Damien.

"Shut up! I don't want us to have advantages like that, that's the point! First you call me over, then you leer at me like a pervert, then you tell me this crap that happened with your friend, now you're trying to tell me what everyone else has been trying to tell me!" yelled Karaka standing up. Damien remained sitting.

"So Karaka, you asked me a question about my fidelity, let me extend the same question to you. Have you ever had a boyfriend?" asked Damien.

She calmed down, this time ignoring the prospect of her feet getting soaked.

"Yeah, a few years back. I thought he thought the same way I did, about girls. I didn't notice it then, but, he kind of rushed the relationship. Three weeks after we first met, he invited me over to his house. His parents weren't home. He didn't even waste time. He tried offering me a drink, I refused. He asked me to take off my clothes, I refused. Then he started yelling and screaming at me for not doing what I was supposed to. I left him after that, and he moved onto six other girls that I've heard of. Ironic, if I had went through six other guys, they'd be calling me a whore, but he's considered a stud" said Karaka.

"That's life for ya, Karaka. Trust me, neither side has it easy, but they both think they do" said Damien.

" You talk like some motivation speaker" mutterd Karaka.

"Well you sound like a boy when you talk. Oop, hope that didn't offend you" said Damien. Karaka just shook her head. "Now you're just doing to tease me, aren't you?" asked Karaka. Damien shrugged, Karaka pouncing on him like a rabid animal. Damien made a swift motion to avoid her, but she sropped on him towards the ground, flicking him in the nose, which stung vastly. Karaka got up.

"That was my way of teasing you. Well, good night, and thanks for the talk" said Karaka. She walked away, Damien getting to his feet, holding his nose.

That very much hurt you know.....
