She would see people that others couldn't. When she tried to tell her mother, she brushed then off as imaginary friend. My sister told her she would outgrow it soon enough. It annoyed that no one wanted to listen to her. Not even her father; even though she was the apple of his eyes. The few friends she played with avoided her; she didn't mind. She usual played with some of the kids she met. She never noticed her mother's strange looks whenever she tried to introduce her new playmates to her mother.
She was seven when she felt she was different.
She tried to explain it anyone who was listening. She saw people who looked like they needed to go to the hospital. These often resulted in her parents looking embarrassed and her sister telling her that she need help for making up stories like that. She could tell, without anyone telling her, that her parents' relationship was suffering. Her mother blamed their daughters' behavior on her father. Her father blamed her mother. They never listened to what their daughter's had to say. She wasn't the apple of her father's eyes anymore; instead she was the troublemaker. Throughout the whole thing, her sister never forgot to remind her younger sibling how much this was her fault.

They pulled at her hair, hit her, pulled the sheets off her bed, threated her brother, and screamed curse words at her. The night light never help; instead, they made the shadows seem far more menacing than what they were. She had trouble sleeping in her room; they always appeared in her room the most. She usual slept in her sister's room, much to her sister's displeasure. When she was forced to sleep in her room, she had horrible nightmares and her screams carried throughout the house.
