Chapter 2: The letter

People dressed in black walked around the cemetery talking in low whispers, giving sad faces and lonely words. A young man around 17 years old sat at the base of a tomb, he had dark short hair and his bangs were hiding his eyes. Tears kept coming from behind his hair and his breathing was slow and uneasy.

Rain started to pour form the sky, people could be heard scrambling to get to their cars and out of the cemetery. The only one left was the young man sitting there, his hair soaked but still he didn't move. How could he? Life had taken a sharp turn, and it was not going to change. His father, his tutor had died; the last person he had…. death.

He remembered returning form school and finding a cop on his door. He had looked at him with such sadness, it hurt from just remembering. The horrible news had been told to him after he had reached the door. Now he was here, after his father's funeral, in a black suit, sitting in the dirt, drenched by the rain, and salty tears coming down from his blue eyes.

“Why father?”, “Why did you leave me alone?” he thought while more tears fell on his lap.

“Are you Marcus Rendel?” a voice said, turning the young man found the cop that had gone to his house before, but now he was wearing a black suit.

“This is for you young man, I'm sorry about this, but here, we found this on your father's belongings.” With that he took a letter from his left pocket, and gave it to Marcus.

Marcus gave the cop a strange confused look, and took the letter before it got wet.
“Thank you sir” he said with a small voice, after he had deposit the letter inside his coat. “Good bye” said the cop giving a low bow and retreating to his car. Marcus looked once more to his father's tomb, before he got up and walked to his car.

He came to a halt in front of a small black car he opened his side door with a soft sight and got in. He didn't feel ok at that moment; his head was spinning like crazy. He took a look at his reflection on his car mirror, and made a hurt face when he saw the reality: he was a mess. His hair wet and sticking out in various places, patches of dirt and a couple of bruises on his face, and a small cut on his forehead, that had been made when he had accidentally dropped a glass bottle making a peace of glass jump to his head.

He didn't want to think about it anymore, so he got ready and sped off to the streets. After ten minutes of driving a thought came to him, “Wait a minute… the letter” he raised his eyebrows and remembered the letter that was now on his coat the same on the cop had given him earlier. He felt unsure if to open it, he would deal with that later, first he had to pick some groceries at the store.

“Thank you for buying here” a lady said giving Marcus a big bag with food, he just nodded, no being avail to find his voice. He got out of the store an walked to his apartment, it was not so far away, so he had left his car on his parking space, because he knew it was a waste of time to bring it to the store being just around the next corner of the street were he lived.

He walked silently to his apartment, and having a hard time opening his door because the groceries bag was threatening to brake. When he entered, he saw everything looked abnormally dark, “Of course, what did I expect knowing father isn't here”, he thought looking at the dark marble floor. He turned all the lights and started to cook dinner. When he had finish eating, he realized he had forgotten something. He stood up from the counter, and walked to the perch where he had put his coat. He took out the letter and with a shaking hand opened it slowly.

It was a conversation between to people. He looked at the words written on the paper, but there was something strange about it, his father was on it but it wasn't his father's writing:

“I don't care as long as my project succeeds!

“With all do respect I think what you are doing is wrong

“This is live Dr. Rendel, she chose this future!”

“But this is unfair! She is...”

“Shut up, and start working, I will get really pissed if you keep bugging me with stupid questions”

“You don't know the pain she is going through”

“I suggest you do your work and keep your nose out of my problems”

“You may be the one controlling the situation, but I know you are just creating your own downfall”

“Keep saying these things and I promise those will be your last words”

“Kira needs to be free you must consider, she has rights”

“I never have heard of a monster having rights…”

“You are the monster!!!”

“You don't understand is for the benefit of humanity”

“A mass weapon of destruction, how can you say that?”

“We haven't discussed this since we sealed her, why have you brought it now?”

“Because I'm planning on telling the government about this”

“Where do you think you are going, stop!!!”
“Kira will be free!!! I will give what I took”

“No, don't! Stop him”

“Wha…”

“Kill him if you must, but he can't get away!!!”

“No, I have to… free her”

“DO IT NOW!”

“No, you won't get away with this”

“You are wrong, once you are dead, I will be safe”

“You! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!”

“So long my old friend”

Marcus stood rigid as he saw these words; he had just witness the murder of his father.
