Aidan awoke with a start when the realization of what he agreed to the previous night filtered into his mind. He sat up and checked his pants. They were still intact. Kei had kept to his promise. He then glanced beside him for Kei then heaved a sigh of relief when he found the other half of the bed unoccupied. Perhaps it had all been a nightmare. Maybe he had just dreamed it all. He had, after all, just come off of a twelve hour plane ride. He stood up and shivered slightly then removed his pants.

Aidan made his way to the bath and frowned. It had been recently cleaned. Had Kei cleaned it? Maybe he did actually sleep with Kei. Maybe it wasn't just a horrible nightmare. Maybe Kei had used the bath and he cleaned the room up a bit. He shrugged his shoulders as he took off his shorts and turned on the tap for the bath. He paused for a moment, wondering if he still had some scented bath oil left. Aidan turned and checked a small shelf that hung over the towel rack then pulled out a small bottle. He put a few drops into the bath then climbed in. He breathed in the vanilla scent and sighed. He was not one of those types of men that liked to smell of flowers. He loved men but he wasn't one of those guys that liked taking on female attributes. He would rather have nothing to do with women but they seemed to be everywhere.

He sighed as warm water met his skin and picked up a bar of soap. Baths used to be extremely enjoyable for him, Aidan noted as he began cleaning himself and it had been Nikki that had introduced him to the sensual side of taking a bath. He had never even considered making love in the bath before. He owed a lot to Nikki, even though he didn't want to admit it and he supposed that was why the grudge ran so deep.

Aidan shook his head as he tried to think about something else. He didn't want to think about Nikki. Nikki was no longer intimately involved in his life. He submerged his head into the water then resurfaced. He shook his head then searched around for a towel. Usually there was a small hand towel or washcloth close by...

“Here you are,” Nikki said as he pushed back the shower curtain. Aidan took it and wiped his face. He then paused when he realized what had just happened then stared at Nikki.

“What the hell are you doing in here?!” he demanded and Nikki grinned.

“I came to tell you breakfast is ready. I brought you fresh food and cleaned out your refrigerator.”

“Where's Kei?”

“Off doing business. I wasn't sure when you would get up. It's not like you to sleep so late.”

“What time is it?”

“A little after twelve.”

“Why aren't you with Skye?” Aidan asked as he grabbed onto the shower curtain in an effort to hide his body.

“I was worried about you. Why are you trying to hide from me? I've already seen everything you have. I've also tasted all you have to offer,” Nikki said then glanced at the bath. “Such a waste of space. We used to have so much fun in the bath, didn't we?”

“Why do you keep going on about the past?”

“Maybe one day we can make it the present again. Are you going to get out? Your food is getting cold.”

“I don't want to get out with you there,” Aidan said and Nikki grinned.

“How ironic. An ex-stripper being shy,” Nikki commented and Aidan angrily stood up. Nikki gazed at Aidan's crotch then shook his head.

“You really need to get laid again,” he said as Aidan grabbed the bath towel from his arm.

“I knew you'd look at it,” Aidan grumbled as he wrapped the towel about his waist.

“Skye doesn't have that much. You know his illness really limits what we can do in bed. I miss those wild nights we used to have.”

He helped Aidan out of the bath then tightly hugged him. Aidan resisted, not sure whether he wanted to encourage or discourage Nikki then drew away.

“What are you trying to do?” Aidan asked and Nikki shrugged his shoulders.

“I'm trying to get past that wall you've built up,” Nikki replied as he followed Aidan out of the bathroom. “You smell really sexy.”

“Would you leave?”

“Why? Are you afraid you might show some affection?”

Aidan said nothing as he walked over to his closet and opened it. Nikki sat on the bed and watched him for a moment then lay down on the mattress. He ran a hand over the sheet and laughed slightly. Aidan glanced back at him then turned his attention back to his clothes.

“I can tell you've had a lot of fun on this bed,” Nikki commented as he picked up a small pillow. “You seemed to have preferred this side. It feels more worn than the other side. We broke our bed once, didn't we?”

“I don't know,” Aidan replied and Nikki tossed the pillow at him.

“Yes you do. Why is it so hard for you to talk about the past? We both enjoyed what we had, didn't we? I really do wish I hadn't called it off but I was feeling so neglected. You practically lived at the studio. I couldn't take the lack of intimacy. You seemed so far away then and I didn't like being shut out of your life. I had needs too but you ignored them.”

“I was only doing what I thought was right. At least if I get pressured into recording a song this time around, I won't hurt anyone. No one will get that close again. Singing is all I have now.”

“No one? Not even the one who taught you so much about sex?”

Aidan paused and Nikki sat up. He watched Aidan, hoping to see some sort of dent in his defenses. Aidan lay a hand on his towel and Nikki thought about how he had loved to suck on Aidan's body. Aidan glanced back at him and folded his arms.

“Go bother Jett,” Aidan said as Nikki stood up.

“He's not here. Jade picked him up about an hour ago. It's just you and me,” he replied.

“Why did I get stuck with you?”

“Kei thought it might help.”

“Help? Help what?”

“You.”

“I don't need help,” Aidan said as he allowed the towel to fall to the floor.

“I bet your ass is tight again, isn't it?” Nikki asked as he walked up to Aidan.

“Don't touch me.”

“You're a male, Aidan. You need these emotions. We all need to feel sexually charged.”

“What did you cook?”

“What?”

“What did you cook?”

“Nothing special. I made some crepes filled with ham and some vegetables. I can warm them up again if I have to.”

“I've got to be dreaming this.”

“Why?”

“It's the only thing that makes sense.”

“This is real, love.”

“Nikki....”

Nikki kissed Aidan's neck and brought his hands down to his waist. Aidan's eyes grew wide when he felt Nikki's hands move lower then pulled away. Nikki looked shocked as Aidan pulled on his shirt.

“Why are you resisting? I'd like to swallow your cream again,” Nikki said and Aidan folded his arms.

“I can't do anything with the knowledge that you'll be going home to him,” he replied.

“Can't we still have a little fun?”

“Did you do this sort of thing when we were together?”

“Of course not. I was completely faithful to you. When I played at the club, I got lots of offers but I turned them all down. You were such a cute stray.”

“I thought you said...”

“Of course. I've never treated you like a stray, have I? Besides, you're too cute for a stray.”

“Why are you doing this?” Aidan asked as he walked over to his dresser.

“I still really care for you. Why are you denying me satisfaction?” Nikki inquired.

“It just doesn't seem right. If you were single then maybe...”

“Aidan, I know you need to get laid. I can tell you need it. You know, when you kissed me outside that supermarket, I felt the fire that I used to feel. I couldn't forget it. I love Skye, I really do but I lack something with him. I miss your love, Aidan.”

Aidan smiled slightly as he pulled on a black g-string. Nikki licked his lips and Aidan shook his head.

“I had forgotten that look,” he commented.

“You're starting to sound like you used to. It's going to be fun working with you again,” Nikki said as Aidan unfolded a pair of dark jeans. “Are they tight? I'd like to be able to see it since you won't let me touch it.”

“God, you're going to be just as bad as Kei, aren't you?”

“Kei doesn't know you like I do. Did you really sleep with him last night?”

“I was so tired that I didn't know what I was doing. I must admit that I awoke in a cold sweat this morning when I realized just what I had done.”

“Kei thought the night was exquisite. He told me it was heaven lying next to you. Of course, that didn't impress me at all. I woke up to you on top of me plenty of times in the past. You are absolutely beautiful when you're asleep.”

“Would you shut up?” Aidan asked as he picked up his shoes.

“It's true. Did Brett ever say things like that?” Nikki asked and Aidan paused.

“All of his songs were directed at me. He put his soul in those songs.”

“Well I know that but did he ever just come up and satisfy you? Did he ever make love to you in a public area just for the hell of it?”

“No. You know how he felt about public places.”

“How did you manage to meet him then?”

“We met in a club but that was before fame hit him. I think it really shocked him.”

“He seemed a little odd to me. Hey, do you remember when we did it in the park? That was an electrifying evening.”

“It was,” Aidan agreed as he walked out of the bedroom. “Out of curiosity, what do you think of Jett?”

“As what?” Nikki asked.

“Well Kei said the tabloids might make us lovers.”

“No way. I could never see him sharing your bed. Do you...do you think of him like that?”

“Of course not. I find him attractive but not enough to sleep with him. It wouldn't work anyway. He goes after women.”

“He can change. It's happened before. I don't want him to change though. I don't want him to have access to your bed.”

“Why are you sounding jealous? He's not sharing my room.”

“He's living with you.”

“Kei made me do it.”

“I heard that you offered him a place to stay the night you met him.”

“I only did it because he looked so pathetic. I felt sorry for him.”

“Like a stray?” Nikki asked as Aidan took a seat at the table.

“Not like a stray. You're the one with an obsession for strays,” Aidan said as Nikki set a plate in front of him.

“I don't have an obsession with strays. I don't collect poor, defenseless animals, do I? What would you like to drink?”

“What did you bring? I have no idea what's in my kitchen anymore.”

“Shall I give you a tour later?”

“Of the kitchen?”

“Why not? We could get lost if we got creative.”

“You're weird, Nikki.”

“I'm sorry but something about you has turned me on. I think seeing your bare ass excited me.”

“Did you bring some juice? I think I'll have that.”

“Do I get a tip for bringing it to you?” Nikki inquired as Aidan picked up his fork.

“No. With the way you're acting, I don't trust you,” Aidan replied and Nikki grinned.

“Where's your sense of adventure?”

“I have none.”

“You used to.”

Aidan said nothing as he took a bite of Nikki's cooking and slowly chewed it. He had forgotten how good Nikki's dishes could be. He felt more in sync with Nikki now than when they had first met but perhaps it was all in his imagination. Nikki returned with two small glasses filled with orange juice. He set a glass down in front of Aidan then walked around to the other side of the table and set his glass beside his plate.

“How long are you planning on staying?” Aidan asked and Nikki shrugged his shoulders.

“I don't know. Why? Do you have plans?” he inquired.

“No. I just have some cleaning up to do.”

“I'll help you.”

“What if Skye needs you?”

“He'll call me. I'm helping you right now and he understands that. He actually insisted that I come over here. Does that put your mind at ease?”

“No.”

“Kei said you might redecorate. Got any ideas?”

“I haven't had time to think about that.”

“Well I've got my car down in the garage so we can go shopping. We could check out some furniture stores. At least you'll get out of the house.”

“I don't know...”

“What, are you afraid to be seen with me?”

“It's not that...”

“Do you like it? I can't cook like this at home. Skye has a very strict diet.”

“Sounds like you've got a real winner.”

“Don't make fun of him. You know he's deathly ill. So, do you want to go looking around stores?” Nikki asked as Aidan picked up his glass.

“Being seen in a public place with you might be safer,” Aidan replied.

“You sound like Jett. I don't think I deserve that.”

“Sorry but I can't do anything even if I wanted to. You're living with someone. I can't forget that. That's why I'd rather be out in public with you.”

“Why don't we just have fun today? We'll go look at shops and maybe see some old acquaintances. Does that sound all right?”

“I guess. I really don't want to be here all day with the memories.”

“I'll call Kei and tell him what's going on. Oh I'll need to call Jade and tell him as well. I guess the first thing we need to do is stop at a place and get some keys made. Jett's going to need one.”

“Just as long as he doesn't bring home any women.”

“Why can't he have some fun?”

“He can do that in a hotel,” Aidan said as he stood up.

“So can you,” Nikki said and Aidan folded his arms.

“I own this place. Why would I need to go somewhere else?”

“Jett's going to be living with you. You should let him have some freedom.”

“Just a minute ago you were throwing a fit about Jett living with me. Now you're telling me about freedom. What are you trying to be? My conscience?”

“Sometimes I think you need an extra one.”

“Well you're not it. Let me take care of the dishes then I'll get my keys.”

“I'll do the dishes. After all, I did cook the meal.”

“If you want to then I won't stop you.”

“Gee you're so friendly. It's no wonder everyone loves you.”

“Shut up,” Aidan said as he walked out of the dining room. Nikki grinned as he picked up Aidan's plate and carried it into the kitchen. Extreme sarcasm was one of Aidan's defenses and he had forgotten how difficult it was to break past it. He scraped the plates then set them in the kitchen sink and turned the tap on.

Nikki was certain that something in Aidan's past had made him this way but he didn't know what. Whatever it was had happened before Nikki knew him. They barely knew anything about each other when they had first hooked up but it hadn't mattered. There had been a chemistry between them and things such as family and origin seemed so trivial He frowned as he set a plate into the drainer. Actually, he knew extremely little about Aidan's past. Granted, he knew a lot about Aidan's personality, his likes and dislikes, even the general area he came from but he didn't know anything about Aidan's past.

“It looks so natural with you at the sink,” Aidan said as he stepped into the kitchen. Nikki grinned as he wiped his hands on a towel then turned around.

“We could go to a hotel out of town for a night. No one would have to know,” he said then paused. “You came from the north, right?”

“Close. Northwest. Didn't I tell you that in the beginning?”

“You barely told me anything about yourself.”

“You said it didn't matter.”

“Let's just go. We can talk in the car. It's just like when we first met, isn't it?”

“No. You weren't seeing anyone when we first met.”

“I didn't mean that. We've known each other for almost three years but we don't know anything about each other. I have no real idea what part of the country you come from. The Northwest has a lot of towns.”

“The past doesn't matter.”

“Not even our past?”

Aidan didn't respond as he walked out of the kitchen. Nikki followed him wondering why communication was so difficult for Aidan. Well, he reflected, the band was never a difficult subject for Aidan but everything else he refused to talk about. He pondered this mystery for a moment as Aidan switched the lights off and opened the front door.

“Let's go,” Aidan said as he glanced at Nikki. “Knowing Kei, this may be out last chance of doing what we want to do for awhile.”

“Kei isn't that bad,” Nikki said as he closed the door behind him.

“In any event, let's get going. If I'm going to change this place, I'd better start now,” Aidan replied and Nikki shrugged his shoulders. Trying to figure Aidan out was a full time job. All he could do was make sure that Aidan kept things in perspective. Anything else would just have to fall on Aidan's shoulders.

“You're quiet. That's odd for you,” Aidan commented and Nikki glanced at him.

“I was just thinking. Where do you want to go first?” Nikki asked.

“I don't know. You make the call.”

“All right. Why don't we go downtown and check out the furniture stores?”

“Fine. That might take my mind off of things and people.”

“Then let's go.”
