In front of a burning oil factory was a male with black hair, grinning with sick pleasure as he saw he flames he created consuming neighboring houses. He was pleased with his success. In the distance, was a woman in a short, black leather jacket, watching him, she felt secure when he begun to walk away, secure enough to pull out her cell phone and dial a number—she was calling a business partner. She and her partner, Zane, functioned like bounty hunters, only there was something far off from what they hunted and she believed this man was one of them.
"Yes?" Asked a calm voice. Zane's voice.
"Zane, I think we got ourselves a pyromaniac."
"A pyromaniac? What kind are we talking about?"
"I think a demo—Shit!" She felt someone snatch her phone away and turned around to see who the culprit was—the same male she saw just moments ago, smiling as pressed the end button. She glared at him with cold eyes and asked, "Who are you and why are you here?"
The man chuckled, "I could ask you the same question! 'Why are you here?' or 'Why are you reporting what you've seen and not keep your little mouth shut?'""I don't like keeping my mouth shut," Anita replied, trying to keep her ground though the deadly look in his violet eyes made her shudder, making her feel like she should back away and run.
"Perhaps you should start." The man held out a palm and flames formed. He closed his palm for one moment, to form it into a chain. Anita begun to back away, yes, running away the the best option, she thought. She decided to try sprint away as fast as she could but this only caused the man to smirk, sending this flaming chain towards her, and moving his hand for it to tighten around her, causing her to fall flat onto the ground. His smirk only deeped as he watched her scream and struggle, trying to free herself from the burning chain.
He moved his head just a bit when the bullet came flying towards him and he begun to slowly turning his head to see the cause: a blond male in a brown jacket. The man glared, moving away as the blond man walked into the scene, pointing the gun at the sadistic man. He held out his free hand towards Anita, making the chains vanish.
The man begun to laugh which only caused the blond male to glare at him.
"It's been a long time, Damari!" he said.
"You can act calm, Valentino but I know you better than anyone else, and I know you are scared," Damari replied.
Valentino's expression changed just for a brief moment before he covered it up with another sick smile, "Me, scared? Only in your dreams."
"I'm not having this, Valentino. Get out."
"You're so soft! How'd you get yourself in this department?" Valentino asked, amused.
"Get. Out." Damari threatened. All sense of amusement left Valentino's face as he replied:
"All right then, I'll listen but a suggestion so this does not happen again: if you're going to report, make sure I'm long gone," He was staring at Anita, smiling at her. She shuddered again as she tried to stand up.
He begun to walk away, only to stop and whisper something to Damari.
Damari pulled out his gun away, firing at Valentino but... there was no success.
Damari sighed and turned towards Anita, "Are you alright?" he asked her.
She brushed off her pants and discarded her burnt jacket before looking up at him, "How do you know him?" she asked.
Damari's pale green eyes grew cold as they narrowed in a threatening manner and this startled her, for as long as she knew Damari, she never saw him look at someone that coldly.
He turned away swiftly, changing the topic, "Zane called me here because he had gotten worried when you mysteriously hung up on him."
Anita seethed, her brown hair flowing behind her as she walked faster behind him, yelling: "Bastard! Don't you dare change the topic on me! What is your connection to that Valentino!?"
"I don't want to talk about it!" he shouted. He looked behind him and saw a shocked Anita. Sighing, he decided to speak in a calmer manner now as he turned his back away from her, "It's none of your business."
"Damari..." She whispered.
"No. End of conversation!"
Anita sighed. This wasn't like him. "Da—"
He shook his head; he really didn't want to continue on with this conversation.
They stopped when they spotted Zane's old, black Ford, and the dirty-blond hair man, wearing a tan shirt with rolled up sleeves, leaning against it. He perked up when he heard their footsteps and faced them, relieved.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Let's just say we're not just dealing with a pyromaniac, but one who can control fire!" Anita replied.
Zane raised an eyebrow, "Control fire, you say...?"
Damari nodded, "He manipulated the fire into a chain," he confirmed. He tightened his hand into a fist as he continued, "He let it wrap around her... He watched her scream! He enjoyed it!"
"Damari, calm yourself," Zane ordered. He was not going to have Damari pull out another temper tantrum like he did last week when an Incubus went after Anita.
Sometimes he wondered if Damari was even cut out for this type of job with all his temper tantrums. "Anita can handle herself, don't forget."Damari lowered his head, "Yes. I know."
A woman, in a low-cut pink top with light brown hair, came out of the truck and walked over to Damari, patting him on the head, "You're still the newbie here, don't forget," she smiled.
"Yeah..." Damari replied, feeling a bit embarrassed at the parental affection Sienna, the woman, gave him.
"Well, Let's head back to the office," Zane suggested, directing his thumb towards his truck. "I need to hear more about this man that you encountered Anita, and then we can move onto the next step."
"What did he look like?" Zane inquired, his hands linked together. Anita was sitting in front of his desk and looked away as she replied, "He had black hair and violet eyes. Olive-skinned." She placed a finger on her chin, trying to think of more details. Come to think of it, Damari has olive-skin, too..., she thought and looked over at Damari, who was thinking to himself. She shook her head and focused back at Zane, "If I recall correctly, I think he wore a lot of black. A black shirt, black pants... and a dark trench-coat."
"Age?"
"Not too old. He looked like he was twenty-two."
Zane nodded, "Thank you."
Anita stood up and bowed slightly, "I apologize for being a burden again. I'm usually better than this but–" Zane interrupted her again, "Don't worry about it," he smiled and continued, "these two incidents are not your fault."
"Thank you, Zane." She replied though she was distracted. She was looking over at Damari, whom seemed to be in his own little world. She walked over to him, seating herself right beside him and asking:
"What has gotten into you? Ever since we met that Valentin–" She stopped when she saw that familiar cold look he gave her earlier and she begun to speak in a quieter tone, "What's wrong?" she asked. Damari looked away, causing her to frown once more. She almost felt like she had to slap him across the head, hoping that it would knock some sense into him.
Before she could do anything (or before anyone could stop her from doing it), the door opened, revealing a male with wavy light-brown hair. He looked around and then walked towards Zane's desk, placiing his hands on the desk and pleasently smiling, "Hello. May I request a job?"
Zane nodded and the man continued, "Thank you." He pulled out a small picture, "I am looking for this man. His name is Valentino."
The group perked up.
"I see you know him?"
"Yes. He attacked one of my partners earlier," Zane nodded towards Anita's direction, "How do you know of him?"
"He has killed all in my family with his strange power... I wish I could avenge them myself but I do not dare as he has much more power than I. Will you please grant me my request?"
Zane took the picture, "Yes, we will. I'm sorry about your family."
"It is no worry." The male looked over at Damari and smiled lightly.
Damari glared back at him. Arius, he thought. Bastard.
"What is your name?" Zane asked Arius.
"Jasper Mason."
"Thank you, Mr. Mason. We will grant it."
Arius smiled.
