Anna Jane's Trial Pt. 2

Around noon, he teddy guard walked into the infirmary. He made his way to Anna Jane's bed. The little girl watched as he came by her side. He stared at her with his cold button eyes. Anna Jane became serious. She held out her wrists at the guard's silent command. The bear walked up and cuffed her wrists together. Anna Jane got out of bed. The guard led her out of the infirmary.

Teddy sat in the courtroom waiting. White Bear said she would help. He hoped she would pull through. Just in case, he needed a back-up plan.

Teddy looked up when he heard the doors open. A sea of teddy bears walked into the room. Everyone was dressed nice. They all took their seats. Teddy watch all of them. The jury box filled up in seconds. Teddy watched the doorway. He didn't know why he should be getting his hopes up at all. Maybe he should form a plan B.

That's when he looked up and saw her. White Bear walked into the room in a black dress suit. She held a file in her hand. Well, okay. She's here. But will she pull through?

The judge walked into the room. Everyone stood up. The judge motioned everyone to sit down. The teddy bailiff walked over and rang a gong. The bears turned to the back door. Two guards pushed it open. Teddy leapt to his feet.

There was Anna Jane. Her wrists were cuffed together as she was led into the room. She kept her head down as she walked down to the defendant's chair. Teddy felt himself die a little inside. Anna Jane and the guards sat down. The judge hammered his gavel. The room became still. The judge began his speech. All eyes fell on Anna Jane. The prisoner could feel the icy in the room. White Bear sat next to her. She put her hand on the child's. Anna Jane turned her head. The White Bear stared at her. It didn't look like it but Anna Jane could see traces of warmth in the little bear's black button eyes.

The judge called the prisoner to stand. Anna Jane rose to her feet. The bailiff read off the charges. Anna Jane had a confused look on her face.

“What?” she asked. The judge hammered his gavel. Anna Jane sat quiet. White Bear placed her hand on hers. The child turned to her. Her lawyer shook her head. Anna Jane closed her mouth. The judge spoke up again.

“I'm innocent,” the child said. Silent murmured filled the court. The judge slammed down his gavel. Anna Jane didn't flinch. Teddy stood up. He raised his hand. All eyes fell on him. The judge turned his focus on him. He asked Teddy to speak. The small bear approached the bench. All three started talking. Anna Jane stood waiting. The judge listened. Everyone watched intently. Finally the judge stood up. He gave a short speech and disappeared to his chambers. Anna Jane held her breath.

Now what?

Moments later, the judged returned. So quiet that many pins could drop. Anna Jane stood. The teddy judge held out a piece of paper. The jury stood up. The little girl held her breath.

Pop!

Everyone looked around.

Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!

Everyone ran around in a panic. Anna Jane whipped her head around.

“What? What's happening?” she asked. Suddenly, her wrists came loose. Someone grabbed her by the hands. Anna Jane only got a glance of the bear leading her out of the chaos. A puzzled look came over her face.

“Teddy?” she asked. Her ears picked up someone running behind her. Anna Jane turned her head. White Bear ran behind her.

“You?” the girl asked. The white teddy bear pushed her along. The firecrackers and running increased. Teddy pushed his way through the crowd. The trio made it out to the narrow hallway and kept on running.

And just like that, they were gone.
