Doll Village
The outside was so calm. Anna Jane felt like collapsing on the
ground. Teddy and White Bear looked at her.
“Yeah,” Anna Jane said. “Just give me a minute.” She fell to her
knees and then her side. This should be fine, right? The girl drew
her eyes closed. Just a quick nap. Should be fine, right?
----------
Moments later, Anna Jane awoke to humming.
“Hm?” she asked. The little girl sat up. She found herself in a
small room. The only things she could see was a small table and her
bed. A nurse doll was by her side, wetting a cold cloth. The nurse
looked up.
“Oh good, you're awake,” she said. “How are you feeling?” Anna Jane
sat blinking for a moment.
“Good…” she said slowly. “Where am I?”
“Oh,” the nurse said. “You're in my village.”
“Your village?” Anna Jane asked.
“Uh-huh,” the nurse said. “You're in the Doll Village.”
“Oh…” the patient said. “Where--?”
“They're fine,” the doll said. “They went down to see the baby in
the nursery.” Anna Jane's eyes widened.
“Wait… Did you say…?” she asked. The little girl struggled to
speak. Nurse Doll placed her hand on hers. Anna Jane turned to her.
He life-sized doll smiled.
“It's okay,” she said. “They are all okay.” The little girl could
relax.
“Have you eaten yet?” the nurse asked. Anna Jane shook her
head.
“Hold on,” the doll said. She walked out of the room. Anna Jane
just sat up in bed. She tried to piece it altogether. She still had
more questions. Anna Jane looked at the door. The little girl would
have to wait.
--------
Teddy and White Bear made it down to the nursery. He turned to her.
He only had one question for her. White Bear shook her head. Teddy
took her hand. She had a seemingly shocked look on her face. He
gave her a stitched smile before pushing open the door.
Three nurses stood over the baby's crib. They looked up at the
bears.
“You came back,” one of them said. Teddy walked over to the crib.
The baby cooed as they kicked about.
“She's a very healthy child,” the second nurse doll said. Teddy
tilted his head.
“Yes,” she said. “The baby is a girl.” The stuffed bear stood
eyeing her. White Bear stood off to the side. She worried about
what would happen next. There was probably a warrant out for their
arrest. They needed to clear this up before it was too late. She
looked over to Teddy. He focused on that little baby. Who were
these guys? Something told White Bear to turn and run. But she
couldn't figure out why she had to stick around. Teddy had a weird
charm to him like that. White Bear smiled to herself. What were
they going to do now?
