Angler Path

George wasn't graceful when it came swimming. It felt like being on a ship during a storm. Vivian clung the walls.

“Why is it so rocky?” she asked.

“He's scared,” Patel said. “Can't you feel him trembling?” Vivian frowned.

“I hate this!” she complained.

“It's not that bad,” Anna Jane said. “I kind of like it.” The water rushed around them. The little girl laid back and closed her eyes.

“Mmm. I could go to sleep to this,” she said.

“Where are we going?” Logan asked.

“No idea,” Ripley admitted. Vivian looked up at her wide-eyed.

“You can't be serious,” she said. She threw back her head and groaned.

“Not much we can do,” Patel said. “It can't be helped.” The geisha groaned again.

“Relax,” Anna Jane said. “It's fine.” Vivian wrinkled her nose.

“You've got to be joking,” she said. No one said anything in response. Anna Jane was already falling asleep. The sergeants plotted the next course of action. Logan was falling asleep. The bears looked asleep. No one was paying attention anymore. The geisha sighed.

“Oh boy…” she mumbled.

Where were they going to go? How long were they going to be underwater? They needed some new directions.

Linda knew this. Anna Jane knew this. But what were they going to do? The water might be some help to them. So calming. So relaxing. Such beautiful murmuring. And… singing?

Mmm. So peaceful. And the whispering too.

Hm?

Anna Jane slowly opened one eye. When did the walls turn blue? She breathed out and saw her own breath. Her mind hadn't had time to adjust. But she knew she wasn't alone. The same went for George. His movements became gentler. He wasn't panicking. In fact, it felt like he was going to sleep.

“Come on,” Anna Jane whispered. “Don't go to sleep out here. You'll drown.” She didn't have the energy to get up. George was slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Everyone else had gone to sleep as well. Was this how it ended? Sleeping at the bottom of the ocean? Somehow, that didn't sound too bad.

Anna Jane!

The girl opened her eyes. Linda? Anna Jane looked up to see small bright pink lights floating above her.

You have to listen to me. Get George out of here! The sprites are trying to kill you! You have to get up!

Anna Jane blinked. “What?”

Grab my hand! A small pink hand reached down to the girl. It took effort, but Anna Jane grabbed the spectral hand. A white light surrounded them.

And then there was silence.
