Playfulness

Running through the swings over the cedar chips elicits another squeal of giggles from the four year old boy I'm chasing.

Immediately, he does an about turn and takes off in the other direction to clamber up the slide.

Approaching him with my fingers at the ready, I wiggle them in the tickle motion that sets him into another fit of giggles.

Once I reach him, however, all I do is pretend to miss him by inches as he makes it to the top of the slide.

Now he stands in place showing off the most adorable set of dimples you've ever seen while I catch my breath.

Running over the solid bridge in the park, he comes to another slide and stands at the top of that one, giggling madly.

Taking the hint, I bring up the “tickle fingers” again and take my place at the bottom of the slide while he's on his way down.

He reaches me soon, and I attack. When he's worked up like this, I never have to do much tickling before he's laughing outright.

The cool evening air brushes by us with the few leaves left on the trees. It's getting late, but he won't want to leave, I know.

So I indulge him in another round of “giggle-monster defeats tickle-fingers” before announcing the need to leave.

As I knew he would, he doesn't want to leave. With puppy-faced coaxing and promises of a warm bath, I win the battle and he joins me for the trip back to the car.

Taking my place behind the wheel after he's strapped into the backseat, we leave the abandoned park being swallowed by the late hour.

I look back as I ready to leave the lot, he's already asleep.

Tickle-fingers wins.
