Chapter 2

It's been six years to the day. Six years since Kira's life changed. It was a warm day in Sintia and Kira was ten years old. She was in her room reading up on how to summon Demons.
"Kira?" her father called to her from downstairs and Kira looked up.
"Yes?"
"Your mother and I are going out for a bit. I trust you can keep out of trouble?"
"Of course,"
The door opened and Kira's mother walked in. She sat next to Kira and said, "Remember this, my little Kira. The world is a good place. Don't forget that okay, honey?"
"Yes, mother." Kira smiled. Mr. and Mrs. Yatikana left the two-story house and Kira's smile melted into a smirk.
She picked up the book she was reading and looked for a spell. Finding the Summoning Spell she was looking for, she said the Words of Command. A blinding white light told Kira two things. One, she was successful and two, it was an Ice Demon. The light dimmed and Kira uncovered her eyes and clapped her hands over her mouth.
"Ye-es! Finally! I can summon Demons!"
"What ya mean? You're just a kid!"
Kira wasn't paying the Ice Demon any mind. She was reading on the Dismiss Spell. Upon finding it, she spoke the words and the Ice Demon vanished. Kira couldn't believe it. She had done it!
'I have to be the youngest person to ever summon an Ice Demon!' She looked down, eyebrows furrowed, 'But now...I'm so freakin' bored. I wonder if the T.V. will help for once? And when are mom and dad gonna get back?'
Kira put the summoning book back on its shelf and raced down the stairs, taking two at a time. After three hours of watching T.V., Kira looked at her wristwatch and read the time. 6:00 P.M. She picked up the remote and began to surf through the channels. She finally settled on the News Station. She got up and went about making popcorn.
"Well," Kira said to herself, "this is no movie but oh well."
She put some of the popcorn in her mouth and walked back to the couch and sat down just as the news started. The lady on the T.V. read her report.
"Today was a huge tragedy. A bomb exploded in the park. Police officials say that it was hidden in one of the trees and went off about a half an hour ago. Around twenty people were injured and some people are now, sadly, deceased. Mr. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Satoma and Mr. and Mrs. Yatikana are among those who were killed. The--"
Kira didn't hear anything after that. She just stared unseeing, at the T.V. Kira was shocked out of her daze by a knock at the door. Kira stood up and without thinking opened the front door.
"Are you Kira Yatikana?"
"Y-Yes. I know about the bomb."
The police stared at her for a second.
"Ok, well, I have to take you to the orphanage..."
Kira's crimson eyes grew bigger. "No!" Kira shouted.
"Now see here..."
"Ice Storm!" Kira yelled, sweeping her hands in a cyclone like motion. Hail came down and pelted the police officer. He threw his arms up in a defense but the hail didn't cease.
"Later loser!" Kira yelled, running past him.
She sprinted down the street and ran into an abandoned building. Kira scrambled up some old stairs and into a dusty bedroom. She crawled under the bed and coughed some dust out of her lungs. She whimpered and closed her crimson eyes.
What happened flashed before her closed eyelids.
T.V. News. Demon. Ice. Popcorn. Bomb. Police. Orphanage. Mom. Dad. DEAD. Alone.
Her eyes snapped open and she cried softly. "Mom...Dad. Help me. I'm scared."
With that, Kira fell into a fitful sleep.
So Kira Yatikana lived in that old house for four years. On the start of the fifth year she was caught. She had made herself look different so the police wouldn't find her as easily. She had cut her long black hair so it was a little shorter. Today, she was walking slowly down the streets of Sintia.
"Hey, you!" she heard a voice yell. Kira shrugged and ignored it, thinking that the hail wasn't meant for her. Kira heard a curse and then a spell.
"Paralysis Circle!"
Kira chuckled. "Some loser must be trying to outrun the--ne?"
It was then when Kira realized that she couldn't move. "Crap. Crap, crap, crap, crap, CRAP!" 'That idiot was talking to me! Shoot.'
"Hey, didn't you hear me, kid?"
The man moved in front of Kira and she saw that it was a police officer.
"Get this mister. First off, I'm not a kid. I'm fifteen and two, yes I did hear you but I thought that you were yelling, "Hey you!" to someone else."
"So what is your name?"
Sadly at that second, Kira had a brain fart.
"Kira." The man raised an eyebrow in interest. That's when Kira realized her mistake. Her eyes widened in panic and she mentally slapped herself. "Awwww...crap. Well, looks like I've been found out." Kira said, sighing.
"Yes. We've been looking for you, Kira Yatikana. I'm afraid I'll have to take you in."
"Hehe, if you can catch me! Now!"
Kira muttered a Release Spell and the Paralysis Circle broke. Kira ducked as a vine came at her.
'Ah-ha!' she thought, looking for an escape rout, 'A Plant Magician.'
Kira ducked as another vine came at her and when she stood up, she thrust her hands forward. "Right there!" she yelled. "Fire Storm!"
A red cloud appeared over the Master and fire came down and pelted him. He screamed in pain.
"Nyah! That was only level two Fire Magic!" Kira ran down a dark back alley. She came to an intersection and turned left.
The Master had recovered by then and pulled out a communicator.
"I've found Kira Yatikana." he said, "She ran down a back alley. She's pretty clever. I think she uses Fire Magic."
"Ok. Don't worry, I'll get her." came a fuzzy voice from the other end.
Kira stopped and rested her hands on her knees.
"Haha! I lost him." she panted. She was tired from all the running, but pleased with herself.
Little did she know, a Psychic Magician was a little way behind her.
"Sleep." he whispered and watched in satisfaction as Kira fell over onto her side, fast asleep.
------------------
"Ungh." Kira slowly opened her crimson eyes, "No! Wh-where am I? I was caught?"
"Yes."
Kira's head snapped up and she growled at whom she saw.
"The Plant Master." she snarled. "So, how are the burns?" she asked, smirking.
Ignoring the taunt, he said, "Oh shut up and listen. Luckily for you, you are too old to be put into an orphanage. So you will have to be made an apprentice to another magician. Doesn't matter if you say no. You'll have to be one anyway."
Knowing that there was no way out of it, Kira sighed. "Ugh, fine. Who's my mentor?"
"Here she is."
Kira looked up and saw a woman. She was tall, had blonde hair that was in a bun, earrings, and looked...
'Creepy.' Kira thought. She mentally gulped.
So that is how Kira, a girl of fifteen and parents who were killed, came to live with such a creepy woman.
