Der Panzer Jager
The panzershreck flashed and roared, but its 88 Millimeter rocket did less than dent the Russian made T34's armor. Like a maddened beast the T34 charged the ditch. One man rose to run. “Halt Halt!”
Suddenly a burst of gun fire dropped the man back into the ditch. The loader rose and attempted to run but was grabbed by his wounded friend. “Nicht gehen!
Over come by panic the young soldier bolted leaving his friend to certain death. Not a minute later he heard the scream of his comrade. He dove head first into his commanders trench. “wo kommst du?”
A witness to the act of cowardness answered. “Der wenig mann link seins Kameraden zu sein gestampft in der schlamm durch das zinn dose.”
“deine öffnung schließen! Du wurdst de gleiche sache getan Kaben!”
“Gunter andere panzer!”
“Entdeckung shutz!”
Gunter snatched up the panzershreck. The tank turned and he fired into the lightly armored side of the T34. As the tank started to burn the remainder of the crew climbed out. “Feuer!” A hail 0f bullets hammered the tank crew. Even as the last man fell it began to rain. As they looked at the map a piercing wail cut through the sound of the rain. The loader had gone to the edge of the ditch and looked down at the crumpled body of his friend he left to die. “Ich gelassen er gestorben.”
“Dummkomf entdeckung shutz!”
Gunter tackled the man as an explosion went off. Snatching him by the shirt collar Gunter screamed into the mans face. “Blick du dummkomf! Du ar lebindig, du kanne gehen auf!”
Nein! Ich kanne nicht!”
“dann du wille sterben! Sein dein wahl!
For a moment they just stared at each other neither saying anything. Then Gunter let go of him and he motioned to follow him back to the ditch. Suddenly the young man bolted away.
“Du Halt!”
"Nein gelassen er gehen. Er ist von wenig gebrauch zu wir.”
They were on their own nobody else was left Fritz loaded Gunter's panzersheck.- Wrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee- “mörser!”
Suddenly there was an absence of sound and Gunter was being thrown through the air. He landed and went unconscious. What woke him up was the constant drumming of the rain against his face. “Fritz!” he looked around and his gaze fell upon the hole he had shared with him. Gunter quickly crawled to the hole. “Mein Gott.” He whispered. Through the trickle of blood in his eyes he could see Fritz. His legs were gone glazed unseeing eyes stared blankly at the sky. Cause of death was loss of blood. “Nien. Nein!”
Clank, clank, clank. A tank approached. Thinking quickly he grabbed the panzershreck and rolled into the ditch. Pulling Fritz's mutilated body over him. The tank stopped and he could hear voices. Russian voices. He peered over the top and was amazed to see the young soldier who had run away. He had been taken prisoner. As the Russian guard led him away he made a sudden turn around and grabbed the guard's rifle. Startled he didn't react and was shot by the young soldier. Taking notice the guards comrades grabbed up their rifles. But Gunter had his Mp40 ready. Providing covering fire to the soldier as he grabbed a magnetic mine and stuck it to the tank it slid right off. Cursing he picked it up and slammed it on the tank. And that was the last Gunter ever saw of the soldier as a tremendous explosion rocked the ground and the tank's side exploded. Gunter stared his eyes where the soldier should have been. Suddenly feeling sick. “Gunter Vas ar du denken. es ar offensive weider.”
Gunter pulled back and prepared for what would become the soviet unions spring offensive that would smash the Germans and push them all the way back to Berlin.
