Entry the 6th
At that time nobody had really noticed it, not even me. not the most perceptive of us all had noticed, but AA didn't sleep much, yet he retained more energy than anyone. He was taking the night shift on guard, yet still remained highly active throughout the day.
Most of us had expected someone like Koswald to develop a power. He was the single most skilled in hand to hand techniques, had a rather decent knowledge of firearms(and how to shoot with them), though Tarius still knew more about guns.
Koswald was the one who had been leading the nightshift, and was the only one among us(who had no noticeable power) that had taken on one of the false reptiles unarmed and won. Quite the feat. He was giving lessons in “self offense” instead of self “defense” because the term was just more appropriate. Still basically the same thing. AA was the closest to being any form of “prize” pupil, though Kevin tended to look on most everyone with the same level of contempt.
I honestly never liked Koswald, but I couldn't deny he was good at some of the things he did. At least in comparison to me. I had never had a master, or proper instruction of any kind in fighting. I was running off of raw talent and stuff I picked up from books and movies. AA had prior training, just not as good or as much as Kevin, but he still did better than anyone at a lot of things. Like I said, nobody really noticed his insane stamina though. He showed it most at night, and people were too tired to take note.
There was this one night though. The first of several events that night that hold significance, nick's bequeath.
“please Stone, can you at least try to fix it? I can't do anything with it like this. Please!”
“I don't know if I can do anything for something that already healed, I'm still not even sure how to fix what hasn't.”
“please, can you just try? It got busted ages ago, and I haven't been able to use swords or anything since! If you fix it, maybe I can help in the fighting!” he was on his knees now, tears in his eyes. “please, try, just try.”
Stone put a hand on his shoulder, and smiled. “alright, I'll try.” She put a hand on his leg, around the knee and the shins, and willed her power to fix properly what had not healed right. Somehow, or other, she felt that it worked, and certainly the glow appeared. The warmth spread through to him. “how does it feel?”
Nick did a jump kick, and ran at the wall, did a flip off it. “amazing! Amazing!” Nick hugged stone and dashed off. It wouldn't be long before problems developed though.
Many things happened that night though, aside from this. That night I talked to I talked to Tarius about constructing a vehicle for my personal use. I was being rather selfish about it, but I knew he'd love the idea of making what I had in mind.
After I spoke with him, I went to sleep, as I had morning watch. AA had the night watch, like usual. I was informed afterwards that things were essentially normal most of the night, but there were more howls and growls that usual. We later learned the ominous ness of that. Because everything went completely silent right before things went nuts.
“Corben! Corben! Wake up, something weirder than hell is going on! Get up! Danny, go get Reggie. Now! AA said get Corben, this is beyond us. Come on Corben, get up!”
I was being violently shaken awake by Eagle. The Principle was hurrying over, with the SC chairman. Reggie was up. I stood up. “What's happening?” people all over the gym, where we had decided to make the sleeping quarters for security reasons, were waking up from the noise.
“something is happening outside. AA said to get you.” I nodded, comprehending Eagle was trying not to freak out everyone who had woken up by now. Telling them something is extremely horrible was happening wouldn't go over well. People were already tense, the smokers, most of them, were going through at least a pack a day. Oh yeah, we had smokes. Chubbs nabbed them every chance he got on forage raids. And then traded them at exorbitant rates for a couple “extra” pleasures.
Hopping back to the story, I dashed outside to the most freakin scary thing I had yet seen. Two of the giant tunneler creatures were out there… with a horde of raptors, crocs, and even flying things. Yes, flyers. But the worst part was what was at the center. At the center was a komoto dragonish creature, very powerful looking. It was larger than the raptors or crocs, but smaller than the two giants that flanked it. But the truly freakish part was what sat, or perhaps stood, I could not tell, atop it. It reminded me of a Reptildra. But Stanetly and Recus(the other surviving Reptildra) were staying out of site in the school.
“YAHAHAHAHA! Have you brought out your leaders little puny humans?”
“isn't that a bit repetitive?”
“yeah, I think it is.”
“HEY! I'm talking here! how dare you disrespect the great Unari! I wills someday be the great Tokage-ou!”
“hey, isn't that Japanese?”
“yeah I think it is. Why the hell are these freaks speaking Japanese?”
“excuse me! someone with the power to destroy you all is here! don't you even care?”
I chuckled, and winked at Reggie, we seemed to be annoying him, which typically makes a being dumber. “alright, fine. My name is Corben Cypher. You may speak your piece to me. I won't interrupt further.”
“Good! Now as I was preparing to say, I, Urani, the Great future Tokage-ou, have been sent here to inform you of your only option of continued survival. If you do not,”
“hey, that name sounds really pompous. What's a tokage-ou anyways?”
“Hey! You said you wouldn't interrupt!”
“I didn't. but I never said anything about the others. AA, stop being so insulting to the poor witless idiotic lizard creature that thinks it's important.”
“Er, Ahem, thankyou… HEY!”
“sorry.”
“Now, as I was saying. You have one option. Hand over your leaders, those who have led you in this “resistance” pitiful as it is, to be sacrificed. The rest of you will be allowed to live as slaves, and perhaps, you may eventually earn your “freedom.” If you do not accept these terms, you will all be slaughtered. You cannot defeat us.”
“surrender and die or die huh? Not much of a choice there buddy. Well, as a leader that has to die no matter what, I really can't make the decision here. anybody else care to do the thinking on this one?”
All the visible guards looked around at each other, then at me, then Reggie, the principle, then laughed. “You're right, not much of a choice. But come on, did you really have to insult us by asking. A few of the others might think slavery is better than death, but we are here, they aren't, and we say it is death. Let's fight!”
“I think we should still ask the others. Hey Uranus or whatever, give us a few minutes. I'll be right back.”
“It's Urani! And no, you stay right here, somebody else can go in.”
AA didn't even wait for anyone else to volunteer. “I'm on it, just be a bit.”
About 3 minutes later, he walked out. He winked at me, and I knew everyone had been alerted to positions. Surrender into slavery? That was the oldest option in the book, and like hell we'd be playing by the book. “that's a no, Urine.”
“so you choose death, you insolent fools! And you insult me again! You I will kill personally.”
“Like hell. We choose to live.”
“Read? Field, DOWN!” I removed the bubble field surrounding the school and grounds, and placed one only over everything but one of the side doors, the gym exit, the whole in the wall, and the main exit. I complete enclosed the back of the school. It was like a second skin over the school, but only I could see it. I grinned.
As I said “DOWN!” a barrage of fire erupted from the students, lead by Eagle and Rugged, inside the school. Those outside raised guns and let loose. Surprisingly, I wasn't the only one charging forward. AA was too.
“AA what the hell are you doing?”
“I've been feeling some power lately, want to test it out.” I stared in astonishment for about .4 seconds as he dropped below the fire, popped back up, and gave an up kick to one of the raptors, knocking it onto its back, the brought his crossbow around and fired straight into the mouth of one of the crocs. I didn't have anymore time for it as I activated my blade and sliced off the head of a raptor. Focused beam fire lanced out at the eyes of the two giants, and one at the komoto thing.
I ducked under a swipe by a raptor, jumped on top of the croc, stabbed my blade down through its head, activated and detached the second blade, thus giving me two blades, similar to darth maul's dual bladed saber, except mine was the size of a regular saber. Also, I had two separate swords, inside of one combined contraption. I sliced up and cut the head and neck of the raptor in half, then jumped up, landed on a field, jumped again, and gave a double stab into the Komoto creature. Or meant to. Instead, reacting with speed greater than I anticipated, I nearly got swept aside. I activated a field, several actually, to stop it, but I still got hurt. I got up and backed away, my side bleeding.
That Urine creature, which I now saw was an essential man shaped being, with lizard like features, including teeth, scales, claws, and tail, was laughing and pointing and grinning. “get him Kogarasu! Eat him eat him!”
Then, out of the blue, or more accurately the black, I heard a whistle and a whine. I activated a field that encased me, and prayed it was exactly what I thought it was. I was rewarded. A rocket slammed into Kogarasu and nearly took off one of its 6 legs. It roared and hissed in pain and anguish. Just then, another rocket flew into it, followed by two rockets to the giant creature on my left. I removed my field and looked around. A Hum-V was driving up the road from the North, followed by a Silverado pickup. It was a Military Hum-V, and the truck had two guys with rocket launchers in it. The HV had a machine gun, my guess was a light machine gun. It aimed and started firing into the mass of the remaining reptilian creatures. Urani took a few bullets, but of them, only two penetrated, the rest bouncing off his surprisingly hard scales. Still, he clutched at the wounds, snarling.
“You won't get away with this! I will return, and you will be destroyed. You got us off guard with weapons we didn't know you had, but it won't happen again! You will DIE!” He gave a high pitched roar, and Kogarasu charged off, followed by one of the giants and a few remaining raptors and crocs that hadn't been mowed down in the crossfire of bullets and energy blasts. AA was standing amidst corpses, grinning. He wasn't sweating, he didn't look tired, he wasn't panting. He held one of the solid vibroswords the Reptildra had formerly carried. The other hand held is crossbow, intact. He was intact, hadn't even been scratched.
I heard a shout and looked over to the HV. And nearly fainted. The guy on the machine gun was of all things, my fellow senior and classmater, Walker.
