Kitan had woke to find his head was pounding. Whatever he did last night he wanted never to do it again. He hoped that nobody would try and speak to him for a while, at least until his head stopped wanting to explode.
"Hey Kitan, you awake?" Rebecca called from outside his room.
Looks like he had his hopes too high. Gripping his head he gave a faint "Yes, whats up?"
She opened the door slowly, then walked in. "I was wondering if yoou wanted some breakfast, I also thought you might need some medicine for your head." She had a tray with a small assortment of food and an odd looking drink.
"I already mixed the medicine with your drink, so just be sure to drink it all and your head should be fine. Did you have a good time last night?" She asked lowering her tone to make it easier on him.
"Yes that is the most fun I have had in years."
"Good" she said with a smile. "Well, I will leave you to yourself for a bit, I have to do go see the chief so pplease don't leave without me."
He nodded and then she left. He ate his food in silence and drank the awful drink mixed with the medicine. Surprisingly the drink tasted great but it had that horrible medicine after-taste. Once he finished eating he cleaned up the room, stretched, got dressed, and went downstairs. He saw that both Jim and Rebecca had already left. He washed his plate and put it with the other dishes then went outside. He decided to go see the chief as well, he needed to see if he could do anything to repay such great hospitality. On his way Rebecca was walking back towards the house when she spotted Kitan. She waved and started walking faster.
"Hey you're up, thats good. Were you going to see the chief?"
He nodded "Oh ok then. I have something to ask you, can you meet me after you talk to the chief?"
He nodded again and smiled. She seemed concerned about something. "Sure."
She smiled and went on her way. He watched her for a short time then resumed what he was doing. When he got to the chief's house he walked up to the door and knocked. He waited for a response.
"Yes, please enter" came from inside.
He entered and found Jim was there.
"Hey Kitan, hows the head? I heard from Rebecca about it and I hoped my hangover cure helped a bit. It always does for me."
As a matter of fact he had forgotten about his head, I guess it actually worked he thought positively.
"Yes I feel much better. I was actually looking to see if there was something I could do for such great hospitality?"
"Nah, if you always wanted to repay someones hospitality than everyone would be doing something for someone else for being such great people" Jim said with a laugh.
"Yes he has a point" chief Harr said "I can think of nothing I am afraid, Jim do you have anything for him?" He said turning to Jim.
"Nope I--" Jim said stopping mid sentence, he had remembered something. "Rebecca said she wanted to speak to you right. Why don't you see if you can't find her and see what she wanted to talk to you about."
He nodded. He said his goodbyes and left the building. He returned to Jim to the house and found she wasn't in the kitchen. He checked up stair in his room, to see if she hadn't tried tidying up behind him. Every woman he knew thought a man couldn't clean a room properly. He then checked her room, knocking softly, then walked in. He saw her window was open so he walked over to it and looked out. The sight was amazing. The trees blowing with the wind, the flowers on the hills just blooming those red, pinks, and light purples that were common near here. The clouds covered the sun just right so most of the sun was hidden and only a few of its rays shone through and lit up the hilltop making the flowers bloom even more brightly.
"Oh Kitan, I didn't see you there" a familiar voice said
He turned slightly and saw Rebecca, sitting on the side of the rooftop. She had a large pad with some painting brushes and something that looked like a painting pad with several colors on it.
"Oh hey. You paint?" He said crawling onto the rooftop and carefully made his way to sit next to her. She had started to paint the scene before them. She was very good.
"I like to come up here to paint. It helps me relax" She said. He was right something was bothering her.
"So whats on your mind thats troubling you?"
Wh-what did chief Harr have to say?"
"Nothing, he and Jim both said that they had nothing for me to help with. So I guess I will get my stuff and be on my way to Dralgo" He said
"O-oh, thats good...I hope you travel safe then" she said.
He waited for more than went back to his room. After he gathered his belongings he left the house. Outside he walked a few paces from the house when he heard a shout from behind him. Rebecca was trying to get his attention from her window. She seemed to have something strapped to one of her shoulders.
"What!" he yelled back trying to understand what she was trying to say.
I-i-i-t" She yelled again a little louder than before.
It? what could she mean he thought?
She ducked inside and a few moments later she came running out to him from the front the door. He waited for her to catch her breath when she reached him.
"Is...this how...we are going to be like...all the way to...Dralgo?" she asked sarcastically still a little out of breath.
He laughed "Nah thats just how I treat you" he said
She gave him one of those looks women are so good at and slapped him with some force on the shoulder. He ignored it.
"I wanted to ask you if I could come with you to Dralgo" she asked dropping her gaze to the ground.
"I...guess. I wouldn't mind the company. To be honest I would feel better if I was traveling with someone" he said "I'm kinda glad that you have travelled so much, its such a big place comapared to Thirsh. I probably would get lost."
Yeah! Alright you want to go to Dralgo right" he nodded. "Then we can go two ways, we can travel the mountains of Lir to the west, or we can take the the path to the south that loops around Thirsh and comes up the East of Dralgo."
He thought about it. He had swore he wouldn't return to Thirsh until he had avenged Gnal. "Lets go up the mountain of Lir."
"Then its decided. lets get ready and be off. I can't wait, I have never been to the mountains of Lir, they say that a great battle was waged there. Nothing on the scale of the Great Divide, just a major battle between each side's generals." She went on like this the whole day. Once they got the supplies they needed, she continued to spout history information. She probably thinks I don't know anything about the world outside of Thirsh Kitan thought. In truth she was right, he just dind't want anyone else to know. As they walked the path leading to Lir they spotted an inn not far from them.
"Lets turn in for the night" she said "if I remember right, theres no more inns or taverns that have rooms. Once we leave here we will have to camp out"
"Alright lets get a room."
They came to the front of the inn and over the door swung the sign 'Dancing Stallion' with a wood carving of three horses standing on their hind legs. They walked in and talked to the innkeeper. they had to share a room because they had already been rented to someone else. Kitan felt a little out of his element. While they were relaxing at the tavern at the far end of the inn, he noticed that she had quite a bit of drinks. So to try and ease the pain she would probably feel in the morning he persuaded her to turn in early. He had never shared anything with a woman, let alone a room. He had told her she could have the bed, he would sleep on the floor. they were getting ready for bed when he was just coming back from outside and he walked in on her in the middle of changing. He quickly turned around.
"S-sorry, I thought you were done."
"O-oh thats a-alright" she said blushing and quickly finished changing "I was just changing my top, you can turn around now, I am finished"
He slowly turned around making sure she was really decent. She was giggling. She was wearing long, light blue baggy shorts and a nice teal top.
"you sure are uncomfortable around women huh?"
"No! I just haven't spent a lot of time around them" he said trying to defend himself.
She laughed then moved a little closer. He grew nervous and moved back towards the door. She stopped and laughed even harder. "I can see we are going to have lots of fun together" she yawned then "oh well, I am going to bed." Quickly moving towards him, she gave him a hug and as she moved away from him, she shot a wink in his direction. She turned the light out and left him standing there. He was sure she could have seen his face, it was so red. He finally regained his composure and pulled out his sleeping bag then went to sleep. The next day they resumed their trek. She was definately feeling what he had felt after the village festival.
"Oh...my head" she said holding her head, trying to walk off the pounding headache, throbbing pain in her temples, and the searing pain she got when trying to look at bright things. He had taken the liberty of making that drink.
"Thanks again for the drink. I've never drank before, I had seen my father drink lots of time but he never seemed to be phased by it" she said slowly walking beside him.
"Its just for a few hours that the pain lasts remember?" he said trying to cheer her up. She just groaned in response.
As they walked in silence he thought about what he was going to do once he got to Dralgo. He knew there would most likely be a trap waiting for him. Gnal's killer would most likely be there. He wanted him to become....stronger, and from what he heard, a tournament was being held in appreciation of twenty years of peace since the Great Divide.
"So...Kitan, why did you leave Thirsh" she asked mustering the courage to try and speak when her head was still pounding.
"I left..because I wanted revenge" Kitan said stopping and looking up at the sky. "A good friend of mine was killed and I vowed to myself, I would avenge him. No matter how long it took."
She stood there. He looked at her and wondered what she was thinking. "Lets keep going. The mountain path looks like its just around the next turn" she said turning back around. Later that day the two of them finally reached the base of the mountain.
A mysterious man suddenly appeared before them. He was a tall, bulky, man who carried a club and shield. "Welcome to the base of Lir, I will be your first challenge."
