Chapter 8
She Yu
Act 1
Two days later at She Stronghold
The warm of morning sunlight entered into She Yu's bedroom, woke up the occupier from his long slumber. She Yu opened his eyes slowly to found himself was lying inside his own room on his comfort bed. It was quite. He followed the silence for a moment. His whole body was still tired from his long trip.
“You awake, finally,” he heard Li Qin's voice. Didn't give the beautiful woman an answer, he saw Li Qin was sitting next to the table in the middle of his room. She was preparing for his medicine.
“How long did I sleep?” he asked her after a moment.
“More than thirty hours since you save the girl on the cliff. Three days exactly if you count since your arrival.”
“Three days?”
Li Qin gave him her attention while she stared at him. “What happened? You had been gone longer than you had usually. When you came back, you brought an unconscious girl with you. Do you turn out to be a savior, now?”
She Yu didn't replied her mockery. He sat from his laying position. “Wu An was pretty good for hiding. It took me a while to find his hindrance,” he explained.
She approached her ward. “You are lucky enough this time, for your body could bear that long,” she said as she gave him the medicine. “Next time, do not act recklessly.”
“Don't act recklessly, you said?” his tone change harsh at her words. “I regret enough to let the last four alive when I saw them at Yang Hu Jin's funeral. If my body was stronger, I already finish them that day!”
Listening to his words, Li Qin took a deep breath. She looked him at his eyes and spoke in sadly, “Isn't it enough, She Yu? Will you end this?”
Surprised at the complaint, She Yu answered her angrily, “I will end this when there no one of them left alive,” and she knew better not to continue their argument. “Of course,” she backed off.
“Now, finish your medicine. It will help you recover.” Moved from his bedside, Li Qin walked out the room but stopped when he asked another question, “How is the girl?”
Li Qin smiled at She Yu's sudden question. “It looks like you have a mind for her.” Her smile widened, as she looked annoyed expression on the handsome face. “Her injured was quite serious but I am Ren Li Qin afterall. Do you want me to pass her your care?” again, she mocked him.
Still, he didn't follow the joke. “There is something I want to discuss with her. Bring her to meet me this afternoon at the library.”
“As you wish.”
Act 2
The same day, afternoon at She Stronghold
Yu Jie followed Ren Li Qin walked into the library. She saw a figure of a young man dressed in white sat behind a table. His silver hair shone in red by sunset. His skin was pale and his handsome face looked cold without expression, facing his book. Stared at the figure, unconsciously, Yu Jie held her breath. The very young man in front of her was White Devil, an assassin.
“I will leave you two alone so both of you could talk freely. If you need something, I will be in the next room,” Li Qin said as she walked out the library, leave Yu Jie alone with the young master of She Clan.
“Please, have a seat,” She Yu asked her without moving his sight from his book.
Yu Jie did what he asked. She remained silence a while, not quite sure what to say. After a long silence, she spoke up with trembling voice, “You are the wanted murderer, are you not?”
She Yu smiled at her question. He closed the book in his hand and looked up at her with his red cold eyes. “Is that what you say to a man who saved you two times?” My… What an attitude you have, Miss Fang.”
“Th..that's another matter. You saved me or not, you are White Devil the murderer,” she replied him.
He kept look at her and saw her fear through her beautiful brown eyes. “Are you afraid?”
“Who is not afraid to face a murderer?” she replied.
Again, he allowed his thin lips to smile. He rose from her seat and walked to the side pf an open window. His eyes looked outside the room. “How you found out my identity?”
“I… I saw the silver sword in…” She cut her words, “Ah, so it was my careless.”
“Please, let me go,” she paused to see his reaction. “I will say nothing. I give you my words.”
He didn't change his sight from the window. “I'm afraid I can't do that, Miss. You know my stronghold after all. I cant' let you go after I accomplish my mission,” he refused her without hesitant.
Yu Jie rose from her seat and begged him desperately, “Please! I promise…” but he cut her right away. “If you want to stay alive, you better act wise.”
“Please trust me. I…”
He turned to look at her with his still cold eyes. “We have nothing more to discuss. You can return to your room, now.”
Yu Jie silence at his words, understand that the young man's decision was final and she could do nothing to change that. Gave up, she walked out from the library.
Act 3
The same time at Wu Po Sin's Residence in Kaifeng
“So Tan Kong was right. Both the She were informers of the king,” Wu Po Sin said. He was having young companies visited him.
“From one of father's manuscript, the previous king sent them to Xia's right before the war started to make sure that the mission worked,” Xiu Juan explained. “The mission mentioned was charged by Chen Cao.”
Wu Po Sin nodded at her explanation. “Based on Chen Cao's letter sent to me, the mission failed because of traitors. The informers knew this and went to Kaifeng to report this to me.” He paused and Tan Kong continued his words, “But they never reach Kaifeng.”
“It was obvious. Chen Cao's death was a great opportunity for anyone who desires the sword. Whoever had the sword would be hunted,” Ching Yan agreed to his uncle.
“The closest possibility is that twelve superiors who fight over the sword killed the informers,” Shuhao said, came out with a conclution. “Somehow, they managed to hand over the sword before they was killed. White Devil is a She and he killed those superiors to revenge.” He paused for a moment. “There are three of twelve left. We have to stop White Devil before he kills again.”
Li Qiao sighed, not too excited with Shuhao's idea about stopping the White Devil. “We need Ren Li Qin to find White Devil but I have no clue of her whereabouts.”
Shuhao explained more. “White Devil will hunt those three for sure. If we found them first, we could stop him,” but Li Qiao replied, “Aiyaa! It's not easy to find them, you know! They were hiding now we don't know where their hindrance. Plus, we don't know who will be his next target.” Her voice sounded desperate.
Yang Xiu Juan smirked at her cry as she mocked Li Qiao, “My.. my.. Li Qiao. Aren't you ashame with your cry? You called yourself as Zhang Yi Feng's disciple, did you not? It is your change to proof your capability. Or perhaps… you were only jabbering?” It was obviously annoying and Li Qiao's face blushed as her rage rose after the mockery. “Why.. you…!”
Act 4
Several days later at She Stronghold
Yu Jie almost spent a week inside She stronghold. She was now White Devil's prisoner and not allowed leaving the stronghold. Almost of her times, she spent it to exploring every each places of the stronghold. Sometimes, she helped Aunt Su in the kitchen or assisted Ren Li Qin preparing a lot of medicine. What the medicine made for, she did not have the idea.
Today morning, she visited Aunt Su in her kitchen. She saw the old woman already busy with her work. Skillfully, she prepared a kind of special tea set, which she never acknowledged before.
“Good morning, Auntie,” she greeted her.
Su Hua gave Yu Jie a slight look and smiled to the young woman before she continued her work, “Why good morning, Miss Fang. I see that you give me another visit today.”
Yu Jie replied her smiled. She moved toward the kitchen table where Su Hua worked. “What are you preparing?”
“It's a special recipe tea made for Young Master,” she answered.
Yu Jie replied nothing but silence as the old woman mentioned White Devil. It had been quite a time since she had a conversation with White Devil in the library days before. After their first encounter, she hadn't see the young man again. In fact, she didn't want to meet him at all.
“Are… there anything I could help?” she offered a favor, not by her liking.
Su Hua chuckled. “That's too bad that you are late. The tea is ready but if you don't mind, I need your favor to tell Young Master that his tea is ready. I will prepare the tea inside the main courtyard.”
“What? Uh… I don't think…”
“Please,” she cut before Yu Jie could refuse. “I'm already late to prepare breakfast. It will be a good help for me.” She smiled. “Young Master is inside his training chamber now.”
Sighed in defeat, Yu Jie accepted her request. She walked out the kitchen only to reach the training chamber at other part of the stronghold. In short time, she already got there.
From the inside of the chamber, she heard sword moving sounds as she carefully opened the heavy wood door. Her eyes were wide open at the scenery in front of her. She saw a white figure was repelling Yin Jing in the middle of the chamber. The silver haired young man moved beautifully and exceptionally fast, trailing the huge space with his lean frame. The silver sword in his hand sliced the air surround him as he moved.
She Yu was aware of her appearance. He stopped his training. His red eyes pointed sharp at the young woman stood in the end of the chamber. He could hear Fang Yu Jie gasped at his stare. Said nothing, the girl's brown eyes couldn't turn away from his.
“You did it on purpose or not; walk in without permission?” his cold voice roared inside the chamber.
Realizing her rudeness, she bowed to him right away. “I… I'am sorry. I didn't mean to…” He cut her words, “Is there something you want to discuss with me?”
“No. It's not like that. Um… Aunt Su asked me to call you up. Your tea is ready and was prepared in the main courtyard.”
She Yu grazed a thin smile on his handsome face. “Ah… so it's already tea time, then.” He sheeted back the silver sword and walked out the chamber.
Act 6
A complete tea set was already prepared on a table in the middle of main courtyard. She Yu placed his sword on the side of the table and took a seat. Whe Yu Jie was about to leave, he stopped her.
“Please, have a seat, Miss Fang.”
“I'm sorry. I don't think I would…”
He prepared two cups. “It's not a request.”
Smiled cynically to She Yu, Yu Jie asked him back, “Are you going to kill me if I refuse?”
“Perhaps,” he simply answered as he took the teapot. “Please, have a seat.” She followed his order hesitantly and sat opposite him.
They were silence for a moment, waiting for She Yu to finish pouring the tea into their cups. The young man, after all, was the one who started their conversation. “I heard from Uncle Su that you spent a lot of your time to exploring our stronghold.”
“I was bored,” she explained short. Her opponent smirked. “Are you looking for a way out, Miss?” and his question shocked her. He stared sharp on her eyes, coldly. “Did I warn you to act wise?”
Trying her best to cover her fear, she stared him back. Her voice trembled when she answer the White Devil in front of her, “Your threatening didn't afraid me. I will try everything get out from this place and report your whereabouts to the courthouse.”
Smiled, She Yu cut their eye contact. He sipped his tea calmly. “No courthouse could stop me, Miss.”
It was another silence. Yu Jie saw him finished his drink and poured for the second cup. There were unanswered questions in her mind about him. Her small hands held her own cup as she collected her guts to spoke the questions, “Why did you kill the superiors?”
“My reason doesn't concern you.”
“How you could posses the silver sword?” she asked another question.
“Family heritance,” again, he answered fast and short.
Yu Jie smirked. “It's nonsense. Silver sword is always being Chen's.”
He didn't answer right away at her accuse. Slowly, he placed the cup in his hand. “Be careful with your words, Miss. You didn't have enough knowledge to get involve in this matter.” After he said that, he rose from his seat and started to leave the courtyard.
She stood up immediately and yelled at the leaving young man. “It will over by your death and I believe someone would able stop you.” Her words stopped him from walking farther more. He turned back to moved toward her and leaved only little distance between them. His right hand reached her chin and forced her to face his cold stare. “There will be someone stop me, huh?”
The closeness made Yu Jie to gasp. Her heart thumped fast while she looked at his red eyes. She was amused but not by fear.
His lips smirked. “We will see that.”
