Everlasting

It's a cloudy stormy night in October. Lightning flashes across the dark sky and a roar can be heard coming from the distance. A minute later, a shriek can be heard as well.

A black haired woman runs through a dark forest with a bundle in her arms. The tears in her eyes, combined with the falling rain, make it hard for the woman to see, even though she could normally see very well in the dark. Lyra sobs as she remembers her husband Taki fighting off a dragon and shouting at her to run and save their infant son. She glances down at her little boy, who, for some strange reason was still asleep. The only sign that he was alive was the rise and fall of his little chest.

Lyra stumbles as she hears the anguished shriek of her husband and knows now that she's the only one who can save her child. The tears now gone from her eyes, Lyra quickly glances around to find the perfect hiding spot. A hole under a tree made by lifting roots was a few feet from the left of her. She gets on her hands and knees and crawls to the tree with the baby in one hand. When she gets close to the natural hole, she whispers something in his ear and lightly pushes him inside as far as she can.

The dragon roars again and Lyra jumps up and bolts for the mountains, a place where she could find a cave small enough for only her to fit in. Her only way to the mountains was through a large clearing up ahead. Without even thinking, she races though it, not noticing the strong winds from behind her. She doesn't even notice that the dragon is above her until he roars again.
Twice in one night, a shriek fills the night air.

The Amesha Drakkos Community A.K.A: The Immortal Dragons Community

Today is a sunny Monday morning. Everybody was already outside either gathering at the water well, or playing in the mud. All except for one young dragon…

“KIWA! Wake up!” a woman yells from outside of the boy's bedroom door. Kiwa growls something under his breath and turns on his side in bed. “And get your ass out of bed!” she shouts. The black dragon flicks his tail in the direction of his mother's noise and turns once again onto his belly. Outside of his door, a dark haired young woman growls at her son through the wood, her hands on her hips. Vickie turns her head slightly to the left when she hears the sound of four pattering feet funning at her from down the hall.

Rika, the youngest in the family and the only one with a bit of green in her hair, comes running at her mother with her older sister right behind her. “Mommy! Mommy! Can I help?” she asks with big blue eyes coming from Vickie's knee. Niha catches up to her sister and pushes her brownish black hair from her eyes, then sticks two fingers in Rika's side. “Can we help,” she corrects her seven year old sister. Vickie smiles at her two little girls. Niha acts like a grown up, but she was only a year older than Rika. Vickie nods her head and pulls the two into her arms while whispering instructions to them. The sisters giggle and Vickie gets up to open Kiwa's door.

Vickie slowly turns the iron knob on the light wooden door and says her son's name in a sing song voice, “Ki-wa…” Kiwa's long furry ears perk up at the different tone his mother used with his name. His ears go down in relaxation when he realizes his mother was coming closer to his bed. He knew that she couldn't wake him up unless she was in her dragon form. There wasn't enough space in his room for a medium sized male and a full grown female wolf dragon in his bedroom.

Vickie glances at the open doorway at her daughters, who were being, for once, the quietest things in the village at the moment. She nods at them and the girls leap into the air, aiming for Kiwa's bed, and transforming into their dragon forms on the spot. Niha roars and her bluish red body lands on top of Kiwa at the same time Rika's smaller brownish green dragon shape hits her brother's back. Her long prickly elbows stabbing him about an inch deep when she connects.

Kiwa jumps up with a howl and the girls yell in his ears “Wake up, big brother!” “Gaah! Get off!” he shouts, shaking his body and trying to stand in his bed. The girls only clutched on tighter, which means Rika's spikes dug deeper. Kiwa roars and tries to nip his youngest sister, but can't seem to reach her. “Big brothers gotta fetch the water!” Rika sings in his ear and Kiwa growls at her. “Get. Off.” Niha can hear the warning in her brother's voice and jumps off of him and hurries for the hallway. She doesn't make it in time for Kiwa to flip backwards and open his wings, making Rika fly off of his back and land on top of Niha's.

“Why do I have to get the water?” Kiwa whines. Vickie narrows her eyes, “Because if you don't, we won't have anything to drink,” she starts and Kiwa sits back down in bed. “And I won't be able to prepare the meat for breakfast.” Kiwa's out of his room in a blink of an eye. Vickie smiles and looks at her two daughters who are still trying to get back on their feet. “Go tell your father I'm gonna go into the forest for his herbs. And tell him to start the water,” she tells her girls and they both nod their heads with toothy grins. They get to wake up daddy now!

As the two girls race for Wolfie's bedroom downstairs, Vickie jumps over the railing and grabs her bag on the floor waiting for her. She then gets up and walks out the door for the Darkwood Forest.

Twenty minutes later…

Vickie's walking down the forest path when she hears a wailing noise coming from a tree on her right. Curiously, she puts down her almost full herb bag and walks towards the noise. The wailing gets louder when she sees a hole under the roots of a giant oak tree. As she gets on her hands and knees, she sees a white blanket stained with dirt poking out of the hole. Vickie reaches in the hole and pulls out a dark haired infant; who stopped crying the moment she touched it. She sits back on her knees in order to give the baby a once over. It was a boy; that much she could tell when the blanket moved off of him. He looked up at her with reddish brown eyes and reaches for her with his chubby hands.

Vickie grins and plays with his hand and mutters something in wolf to him. The baby cocks his head to the side and reaches for her fingers again. This time she lets him have her pinky as she pulls his lips apart with her index finger. “Do you have any teeth, little man?” she asks as she sticks her finger inside. The baby smiles and clamps his mouth down on her finger, sucking furiously. Vickie winces when four tiny pinpricks catch on her finger. “Yep, he's got teeth alright…” she mutters in wolf. Vickie's eyes then go wide when she realizes that the baby was sucking the blood out of her finger. Great, leave it to me to find a vampire baby… she thinks to herself as she holds him in one hand and pulls out her finger. She then reaches over and slings her herb bag over her shoulder and covers the baby back up with the blanket.

I don't see any parents around, so I guess their dead. “With the village being so close, it's no wonder…” But I'm not the kind of person who would leave a baby to die. Vickie thinks as she heads for the village. “Look out Wolfie; we have another mouth to feed…”
