Chapter 1- Falling
Fire on wind.
As Gabriel sat on the top of the canyon looking down at the battleground below that is what he smelt. The canyon was full of the sound of clash of swords, the screams of the dying, the smell of burning of flesh and the neigh of horses.
Horses for Pete's sake, devils and angels had wings it was beyond Gabe why they didn't use them.
Gabriel had a friend named John who was angel. Even though it was forbidden for them to talk John and Gabe disobeyed the rules - then again Gabriel didn't really follow them considering he was a demi angel and he wasn't even allowed to be alive - and still talked ever now and again disguised as humans. Over a game of cards in the human realm John had told him that he did not even know what the big battle was about they were just trained to fight. Most angels were told that they were going to fight evil for their supreme creator.
Fools, thought Gabe, getting up and starting to walk toward his house they don't even know what they are fighting for any more.
When Gabriel had asked what was good and what was evil, John had not known the answer. He had always assumed that the angels were in the right.
Gabriele ran his hands thru his long, silver hair and scanned the ground with his crimson eyes for the line barrier to see if someone had paid him a visit. He had a system set up around the little place where he lived. There was a gigantic barrier around it and no one -save a high level angel and John - could get in. when some did get past the barrier the line would disappear allowing Gabriele time to check who was there. When he could not find it Gabriele suspected that John had slipped away from the battle and come to say hello. As he cast out his senses to see if he was right he felt five other auras, none of them were friendly.
Gabriele swore. The smile he was wearing fell off his face. He felt the auras detect him and began to move.
Gabriele spun around and began to run back toward the edge of the canyon his raven black wings materializing and unfurling from his back as he ran. Reaching the edge of the canyon he jumped in to the air expanding his wings and allowing them to fill. His wings pumped harder as he tried to put more distance between himself and the other angels
He had been cocky, not to mention careless, that they wouldn't have noticed him. Why had the battle been so close to he was staying? He knew that when they did catch him then it would be all over. Though he may be a powerful demi-angel he did not have the power of a Seraphim, the highest power of angels. Gabriele knew that all of the First Hierarchy of angels were too much for him to deal with. He could take on any of the others just not the First Hierarchy.
The powers and the virtues in the second hierarchy were hard to take on but the hardest of all of them was the Dominations. These angel's jobs were to track and make sure that all the angels were doing their job. Gabriel found it difficulty to avoid this type of angel seeing how he was half angel and there was nothing he could do about his bloodline.
In mid air Gabriele did a back flip and looked to see how close his pursuers were. 100 yard away, at the most, he thought. Gabe bit his lip he knew that he might just make it away from them in time. When you say but there is always an element of risk that you can get caught.
Gabriel's wings pumped harder bringing him up higher. Something exploded on Gabriele's left wing and he pitched forward tumbling through the air to the war below him. Desperately trying to right himself, Gabriele latched a line of his power to a cave in the rock face, and, pulling himself up on his power, tumbled into the cave. Upon entering the cave he heard the flurry and beat of wings behind him grow uncomfortably close. Gabriele turned around and covered the large, jagged entrance with a shield spell, just in time as a large ball of air collided with Gabriele's shield.
“Nice try Gabriele, but your efforts are frivolous.” Said a voice. The voice was majestic! If I was human I would have been awestruck before it, thought Gabriele, but then again if I was human then I wouldn't be having this problem in the first place!
There was a loud cracking sound and suddenly Gabriele's shield shattered. Five angles landed in the mouth of the cave, looking at him wordlessly. Two of them came up to Gabriele golden chains in hand.
Gabriele focused on these two angels. They were lower class angels, the ones that would have delivered messages to the humans, but in no way the voice of God. I can beat them! They have lower power then me! Gabriele thought summoning his weapon. It was all angels', demons, and devil's birthright to have their own weapon. Gabriele was no exception to the rule his spear had a gold shaft, silver spear point and black inlay identifying him as a demi-angel. The spearhead had three points, sort of like a cross.
With a snarl Gabriele charged the nearest angel. Shock was written all over angel's face as Gabriele raced toward him. In panic the angel threw the golden chain straight at Gabriele. Gabriele laughed and batted the chain away with a flick of his weapon, bringing it back with a twist and right into the side of the angel. Golden blood poured over the spear as the angel shrieked in pain. Gabriele pulled his weapon out of the angel with a slick pop and the angel fell to the ground. Gabriele watched for a few seconds as the wound started to heal, then jumped over the fallen angel launching himself at the next angel.
Before Gabriele could reach his intended target, his spear clash with the blazing silver and gold of one of the other angels sword. Gabriele turned his head and took in the angels' appearance and weapon. Shock rocked his body and he dropped his weapon.
“John… but… why?!” Gabriele stumbled words not knowing what to say as his best and only friend brought the hilt of his sword crashing down on Gabriele's side. Gabriele stumbled away from John and fell on his ass. He heard a snicker from behind John.
“He can't hear you Gabriele. He can only hear the call of God now.” Said the angel who had spoken before. He had flowing blond hair to his waist that was tied back with a white ribbon and piercing blue eyes. The angel who stood next to him had shoulder length brown hair and green eyes. John's hair had grown from the last time Gabriele had seen it, the black locks now fell in front of his eyes. Gabriele shuddered as he looked in to John's eyes, which had once been filled with life and hope, were now a dull blue gray.
“What the hell did you do to him?” whispered Gabriele staring at his friend
“We did not do anything. When God found out that he had been, well for lack of a better term `hanging out' with you, He delivered a punishment as he saw fit.” Said the brown haired angel.
“You mean he brain washed him into forgetting ever meeting me!” hissed Gabriele.
“I imagine that it would have been something like that. If you had my personal opinion-“
“Which at this point, does not matter Raphael does not matter.” Said the blond haired angel, neatly cutting Raphael off.
“Though it may not matter, Mikhail, I can still express what I think,” said Raphael as he watched the second angel bind the chains around Gabriele, “ and what I think is that God should have given him the same punishment as our Good Friend here.”
“I never knew that angels could or were allowed to give their own opinion on stuff.” Gabriele said bitterly as he was dragged back to the mouth of the cave.
“Come now, we mustn't keep the Almighty waiting.” Said Mikhail, brushing off the question, spreading his wings he flew out of the cave closely followed by Raphael, John and the other two angels with Gabriele suspended in between them.
Gabriele let the two other angels take his full weight as he slumped between them. He wasn't much use anyways seeing as they had made him retract his wings. Gabriele let his head hang as he studded the battlefield one more time. Form his vantage point he could see the full front of the battle. There were large pools of gold and black blood mixing together as the angels and devils bodies lay twitching on the ground.
Despite the fact that he was hanging between two angels and on his way to receive a death sentence Gabriele laughed. The two angels supporting him looked at him like he was crazy.
Gabriele shrugged “Just think about the fact that when we die most of us aren't too picky about where we are laid to rest. Most devils and angels end up side by side.”
The portal to heaven was rapidly approaching and suddenly with a flash of bright white light they were through the portal and in heaven.
And now come the tough part thought Gabriele
