Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Fiery Street ❯ Chapter 1

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

As she walked down the street, fire was pouring out of the sky and incinerating everything that was once familiar. Her shoes made a sickening squelching sound as the rubber soles melted onto the ground and tried to glue her feet down. The metal was so hot it starting to pool on the smoking ground. The heated air made the crackling lane shimmer as if she was having a nightmare underwater. She watched in despair her life slowly turn to metallic black, then a fine, white powder. She tried to save the simple wooden shop signs from contact with the flame for a token of her former life, but everything she touched writhed with red-hot energy and ignited on contact. The acrid smoke of the burning street and the fume of overheated tar were making her eyes water uncontrollably. Every tear that spilled onto the walkway below hissed and spit itself back up into the air, then fell back onto the ground and was boiled away. Suddenly, a spark caught her hair. There was a bright flash and a penetrating stench that poisoned the air around her. She felt the hot wind sting her suddenly bald scalp and the tissues on the top of her head start to swell. She started screaming, at last fully and horribly aware of what was really happening around her. The ear-splitting pops caused by the immense heat were drowned out by her excruciating shrieks of anguish. She finally gave up and huddled into the smallest possible ball on the pliable, steaming sidewalk, waiting for the heat to liquefy it so she could melt through and fall to the core of the earth.
