Chapter One
Zach
I hate my life. Most people would call me a spoiled rich boy who has everything handed down to him. I don't think I am. That job goes to my younger sister. She gets away with everything. She fails a class, she gets grounded for a month which is usually cut down to a week cause she somehow talks mom and dad out of it. I fail a whole grade and get near house arrest. I know...there's a huge difference between failing a class and failing a grade, but I get everything with worse punishment. When my sister screws up, I get in trouble for not looking out for her. Maybe it's a good thing she's dating my best friend. I can keep an eye on her.
You see my parents own a well established business that they expect me to run when they retire. I haven't told them yet that I don't want to. I want nothing to do with it. I want something that I can get on my own. My parents would probably disown me for saying that. They're really strict when it comes to the business. That's why they make sure I pass all of my classes before I can do anything. I'm probably the only one in my group at school that gets straight “A's”. The worst part of it all is that I usually, if I'm not out with friends, get stuck in my dad's office helping out with one thing or another. That just happens to be where I am now.
“Zachary, could you come here for a moment?” My dad calls. I cringe at the sound of my name. Why can't my parents just call me Zach and leave it at that?
“It's Zach dad. Why can't you just call me that?” I ask with an annoyed tone. I hate my parents. I wish I could find something that would really piss them off.
“That's not you name that's why.” He answers. “Now I need you to be respectful. We're getting a new intern today and I need you to show him around.” I roll my eyes. “I saw that Zachary.” Okay now I seriously think that he's doing that on purpose. “That's not the only thing, he'll be staying with us due to the fact that he's nowhere near home and that he lived on campus. So be ready for another person in the house.”
“Whatever, so when is this guy supposed to be here anyway? A couple of weeks.” I am so not looking forward to this.
“Today.” Dad answers flatly. Today? What the hell? Shouldn't you give people warning before people move in? As if reading my mind, he continues. “Jamie already knows.”
Oh yes, tell Jamie but not me. Why am I always the last one to know about everything? “Why tell Jamie and not me? How long have you known about this?”
“About a month. Now stop complaining he'll be here soon.” He says. Oh no. You're not getting out of this one dad.
“H...”
“Mr. Molland, a Mr. Roudes is here to see you.” My dad's secretary says, poking her head into the room. Why can't see call like every other secretary.
“Send him in.” My dad says. The secretary nods and leaves the room.
A moment later, a tall male enters the room. He's definitely ready to work today. He's wearing a nice black suit and his dark red hair is pulled back into a low ponytail. He looks a bit nervous. I can't see why. It's only my dad. He moves to shake my dad's hand.
“Nice to meet you sir. I'm Allen Roudes.” He turns and extends his hand towards me after he's done shaking my dad's hand. “And you are?” Dad answers me.
“This is my son Zachary.” he answers.
“It's Zach.” I correct him.
He ignores me and continues. “He'll be showing you around today.” I glare at my dad. He better not mean what I think he does.
“Um, excuse me, but by show him around, you mean around the building right?” I ask.
He looks at me like I'm an idiot. “No, you're showing him around town, unless of course you have something better to do.” He says in a tone that signifies I'll be grounded if I turn down the offer.
I sigh. I don't have a choice. “Fine I'll take him around, but you owe me.” I say and turn towards Allen. “Let's go.” I start to leave the room.
“Coming Zachary.” he teases. Okay, first chance I get, I'm dumping him somewhere.
“It's Zach.” I say through gritted teeth.
“Of course.”
He follows me out of the building and I realize that I don't have my car. Damn my dad for making sure that I don't try to escape. I look up at Allen, who for some reason is standing really close to me.
“You have a car right?” I ask. He nods. “Good then lead the way so we can go.” When we reach his car, I hold out my hand. “Give me your keys.” He raises an eyebrow. “It'll be easier if I drive. I know where everything is.”
He wags a finger at me. “Sorry kid, but no one drives my baby but me. You give me directions. Home first though. I need to get out of these clothes.”
“I'm not a kid.” I growl. “I'm eighteen.” He unlocks the doors and I slide into the passenger's seat.
“Eighteen huh?” He says as he gets in. “So you're legal then.”
I feel my face heat up. “Excuse me.”
“You're legal. Meaning that any older people that want you can take you without any repercussions.”
“Older like who?” I ask. I close my door and buckle my seatbelt. He does the same. Well, he closes his door anyway.
He thinks for a moment. “Older people like older women, older men...” He grins. “...me.” He's leaning close to me, his hands on my thighs. My body freezes up. I've never been n this sort of situation before. My brain jumps into action when his hands move up.
I push him away from me as best as I can and try to open the door. It won't budge. The bastard locked the doors. I stop trying to get out when I here muffled laughter. I turn to see him covering his mouth with his hands. I feel anger rise in me.
“Oh my God you're so easy.” He laughs.
'Oh my God I want to kill you.' I want to say. I bite my tongue before the words can slip out.
“You don't know when people are playing with you. You're so inexperienced. I've got to take you out some time.”
“Inexperienced? I am not inexperienced.” I growl. “I've just never been hit on by a guy before.”
I shift uncomfortably in my seat. Him placing his hands where they were is starting to affect me. Damn teenage hormones. I do not need this right now. I turn my head slowly towards him. He's grinning, his red hair falling loosely around his face. He let down his ponytail. There my hormones go again. Damn redheads. They'll be the death of me.
“Can we just go already?” I ask. “And stop laughing.”
He starts up the car and we head towards home. The drive is fairly quiet on my part. Allen talks about where he's from and other things. I'm not listening though. I'm trying to calm my slight problem. Allen doesn't seem to notice. Thank God. By the time we reach home, my problem is gone. I pull my key from my back pocket and unlock the front door, letting us both inside. Allen looks around in awe. Well it is a big house.
“Are you coming?” I call when I reach the stairs. He quickly follows me behind me. I lead him to a room and open the door. “You'll be sleeping here. Do whatever you want with it. My room's down the hall. My parent's room is that way. My sister's room is over there. You touch my sister and I'll kill you myself.”
He shrugs. “I'm not interested in little girls.” He says simply. Some how I know there's a double meaning to that.
I ignore it. “Um...shouldn't you bring your stuff in?”
“Oh yeah I'll be right back.” When he leaves, I head towards my room. I'm not taking him anywhere today. I flop down on my bed. I need a nap. Today was tiresome. Slowly, I drift off to sleep.
