Serena Blood looked at the note that she had found in her locker. It was from a boy named Desmond Delgado, who was the hottest guy in school. 'Not like I have a chance with him. I'm the nerd of the school, although jocks do ask me out and every one of them tells me I'm downright sexy.' She put the note back in her locker and slammed it shut. Desmond watched her from across the hallway and sighed. "Man you know that she won't read it right?" Virgil Hunter asked. He was Desmond's best friend.
"Look a guy can hope right. She's just so beautiful." Desmond said.
"Dude she's turned down every guy's advancement on her. Did you not hear about my brother Eric?"
"What happened?"
"She dumped a red slushie over his head during lunch."
Desmond turned to look at Virgil. "You're kidding right?" He asked.
"Man, I wish I was. He was wearing his jersey too." Virgil replied. Desmond gulped and headed to his next class. It was his favorite because he sat behind the object of his affections. He walked into class to find that Serena was bad mouthing another kid.
"Just because I'm a nerd doesn't mean you can steal my homework and copy it jackass." She yelled. The jock was holding the paper over her head and she was jumping to get it. "Just give me a kiss sweetheart and you can have your paper back." The boy said. Serena growled but then smirked. "You can keep it. Considering that's not the real thing. Those answers are wrong." She said. She walked back to her seat and sat down. She slouched down in her chair and smirked again. 'I'm an evil bitch and they're just now getting it.' Desmond sat behind her and pulled lightly on her ponytail. Serena turned and glared at him. "Can I help you Mr. Delgado or are you just pulling my ponytail to annoy me?" She asked.
"I was wondering if you would sit with me at lunch." He said.
"And why would you want to sit with me? I'm not gonna let you copy my homework."
"I don't want to copy you homework Serena. I just want to talk to you."
Serena glared at him and got into his face. "You're just asking so that you can be the first guy I've actually sat with at lunch, aren't you." She said.
"Some people don't have ulterior motives Serena and just want to do what they say they want to do." He replied. Serena pulled back and began playing with her hair. "I guess it would be okay. Just know that if you piss me off I'll dump a slushie over your head like I did to Eric Hunter." Serena warned. Desmond nodded, but inside he was celebrating the fact that he would get to sit with her at lunch. Serena listened to the lesson with little interest. She had already known what they were talking about and was bored out of her mind. She wasn't fazed when the teacher handed back her homework with a large red 100 on it. When the bell rang she left the classroom and walked down to her locker with her friend Kiara. "So, word is already out that you're sitting with Desmond Delgado at lunch today. Is it true?" She asked.
"Yeah, it's true." Serena put her book into her locker and pulled the note out from the locker. "I need you to identify who this letter is from." She said. Kiara took it from her hand and looked at the writing. She pulled out a small book and looked through different signatures. "Looks like it's from the one guy you actually love." Kiara replied.
"I just have a crush on the guy. That's not love." Serena growled.
"Oh, now we have to sing it for the talent show. I'm sure Rekka and Kara will be happy to help us."
"No Kiara, we can't do that. If he sees me up there he'll laugh at me and I won't be able to handle that."
"You said that if you ever said you didn't love him we would sing "I won't say" in the talent show."
"Alright, alright, I'll do it."
Serena grabbed the note and stuffed it into her bag before slamming her locker shut and walking away from her best friend. Kiara stifled a giggle. 'We're not really going to sing it. I was just doing that to get her flustered.'
-- After School --
Serena had made it home without incident. She turned on her favorite CD which happened to be a collection of Disney songs. She lay down on her bed looking down at the note.

If there's a price for rotten judgment
I guess I've already won that
No man is worth the aggravation
That's ancient history --- been there done that

She turned over onto her back and looked up at the ceiling. 'Why can't I just open it? It's not like it's any different from the other notes I've gotten over the years.' She stood up and got out of her school uniform.

Who'd ya think you're kiddin'
He's the Earth and Heaven to you
Try to keep it hidden
Honey, we can see right through you
Girl, ya can't conceal it
We know howya feel and
Who you're thinking of

Serena looked at the note again and decided to do homework first. She would continually glance back at the note then go back to her work.

No chance, no way
I won't say it no, no
You swoon, you sigh, why deny it, uh-oh
It's too cliché
I won't say I'm in love

Serena stopped and listened to the song. 'I can't say I'm in love with him because I know that he just wants me because I'm beautiful. I want someone to love me for me, not my looks. My last boyfriend used me as a trophy.'

I thought my heart had learned its lesson
It feels so good when you start out
My head is screaming, get a grip girl
Unless you dying to cry your heart out
Oh

Serena looked back at the note and walked over to it. She picked it up and contemplated throwing it into the trash. 'What if he does want me for me?'

You keep denying
Who you are and how you're feeling
Baby, we're not buying
Hon, we saw you hit the ceiling
Face it like a grown-up
When you gonna own up
That you got, got, got it bad

Serena set the note down again and walked to the other side of her room. She ran her hands through her hair and left the room. 'Guys are all the same. They only want to be with me because I'm the most beautiful girl in school. That's why I dump slushies on their heads, to cool off their brains and get them thinking.'

No chance, no way,
I won't say it, no, no
Give up, give in
Check the grin you're in love
This scene won't play,
I won't say I'm in love

Serna walked back to the room and to her bed. She looked down at the note and picked it up yet again. She opened the envelope and pulled the letter out. She sat down on the bed as she read through it.

You're doin' flips, read our lips:
You're in love
You're way off base, I won't say it
Get off my case, I won't say it
Girl, don't be proud
It's O.K. you're in love
Oh
At least out loud, I won't say I'm in love

Serena finished reading the letter and smiled. 'I guess I'll just have to approach him tomorrow. I'm sure he's in for the shock of his life.' Serena put the letter in a bin with other small things Desmond had slipped into her locker over the last two years. She sat down at her desk and spent the rest of the night on the computer ranting at Kiara about joking around with her.
-- The next day --
Desmond was standing at his locker with Virgil and Eric when Serena approached him. "Good morning Desmond. Would it be okay if I sat with you at lunch again today?" She asked. Desmond was at a loss for words and just nodded. Serena smiled at him before walking away to go to her own locker. "Okay did that just really happen or am I dreaming?" Desmond asked.
"That just really happened man. Who would have thought that she would ask you to sit with you again?" Virgil asked. Eric was smiling and patted Desmond on the back.
"You just might get your chance with the hottest girl in school. I'll bet she's a wildcat in bed." Eric said. Desmond grabbed Eric by the collar of his shirt and growled at him. "If I ever hear you talk about her like that again, I will not hesitate to beat the shit out of you. I like her because she's actually a good person. I don't care about the looks; I actually want a girl who's willing to stand up to me." Desmond said. He released Eric and stalked off to his first class. Virgil smacked Eric upside the head. "Just because you constantly think with your dick Eric doesn't mean that we all do." Virgil said as he followed after his best friend.
-- Lunch Time --
Serena sat down next to Desmond when Virgil and Eric joined them. Serena slipped a note onto Desmond's leg before standing up to go get her lunch. Desmond read it quickly and smiled. "I'll be back guys, I'm gonna go get lunch." He said as he got up and followed after Serena. Serena was standing calmly in line when Desmond approached her. "That note was very enlightening my dear." He whispered in her ear. Serena smiled up at him then turned her gaze downwards. "Well I figured I would answer the questions in your letter with a note of my own." She replied. Desmond wrapped his arm around her waist and lifted her chin. "So you'll go out with me Serena?" He asked.
"Yes Desmond, I'll go out with you." She replied.
"How about we got to the park after school and hang out?"
"It sounds like a date to me."
Desmond smiled and hugged her closer to him. 'Yes this is what love should be like, in the arms of someone who wants you for you.' Serena thought as she hugged Desmond back.
