Father Andrew thought he could catch me, but he was wrong. I out ran him so easy. I loved it, I felt so free. But I still had to rescue Sister Eva, who was now at town square ready to hang.
I was on the roof of a building, high enough where no one could see me, not ever Father Andrew. He was looking around for me every now and then as he read the charges against Sister Eva.
You’d think that she would be breaking down and begging for him to spare her and take me, but she stood tall, no fear or regret showed in her eyes. I knew deep down she was scared, she didn’t wish to leave me in his cruel world with no one to help me through it all, help me understand it. Even if I knew I could handle this world, my love for Sister Eva was going to make me fight to have her back, and make sure that she had her freedom back. Screw my freedom!
“ Do you have anything to say, Sister Eva?” Father Andrew asked her, after he read the last of the charges against her.
“ I do, Father Andrew.” She said with a sad smile.
“ What would it be, before I pull this lever, thus ending your sinful life.” Father Andrew placed his hand on the wooden lever, griping it tight with a smirk.
I let a small growl escape my throat, wanting to strike now. But it wasn’t time. I wanted to hear what Sister Eva was going to say.
“ Liebe, I know you’re here. I’m sorry this is happening to you, but please just walk away now. Let me go, even though it’s easier said then done.” She started to cry. She wanted me to run, and have a life, but I couldn’t do that. She meant to much to me.
“ Don’t talk to that demon!!! Don’t cry for him!!” Father Andrew growled out ready to pull the wooden lever. “ May god have mercy on your soul, Eva.” He yanked on the lever, and I struck.
My claws cut through the rope easily freeing Sister Eva I landed perfectly in the middle of the crowd, with a shock sister Eva in my arms. The crowd cheered for me, but soon they wouldn’t be.
“ Liebe! Oh Liebe you’re my hero!” Sister Eva cried clinging to my neck.
“ Sister Eva.” I said my voice had grown deeper as anger and power surged through my body. “ I’m going to put you down for a second and I want you to look away. Do you understand?” the pain of transforming started.
“ I understand, Liebe.” She nodded and I set her down behind me, so that the guards that were now rushing towards us couldn’t get her. I hope she looked away and not have to see the evil deed I was about to do if I had to.
The guards were holding guns, and swords as they surrounded me, but their weapons weren’t going to help them. My claws would have sank deep into their flesh long before they stabbed or pulled the trigger. If some were wise they would run as soon as I transformed. It wouldn’t be long now.
“ Little boy we’re going to ask you this once, come quietly and you and Sister Eva won’t get hurt. You don’t want her to get hurt do you?” The captain said, but who was he kidding. Him and his men were going to line us up against a building and open fire as soon as they got their hands on us. I wasn’t going to let that happen.
“ Little boy?” I laughed, without humor. “ Yeah, I’ll show you little boy!” I smirked devilishly at them, and at a pissed off Father Andrew.
I let out a pricing howl as the pain took over. Every bone and muscle in my body ached as they grew. My clothing ripped apart as well as my skin revealing the wolf that wished to rip every guard’s throat out. I bared my fangs at the guards in more than warning. They looked like they were about to piss their pants, if they already hadn’t.
A few were ready to run, but the glare that their captain flashed stopped them from doing so. Even if he was just as scared as his men he was going to his and his men’s lives on the line to stop me. That wasn’t a very wise choice, I would have run.
“ Okay, boy I see your answer and here’s mine. FIRE!” he shouted and the crowd ducked for cover.
Before the guards had a chance to shoot I had vanished from sight.
It was funny seeing their confused expressions as they looked around trying to find me, but that wouldn’t ever happen. I was running to fast for any human to see.
“ Liebe!!” Sister Eva shouted for me, looking for me. She didn’t want me to kill those guards, for they were only following the orders they were given. But truth be told I wasn’t going to kill them, unless they gave me a better reason. I didn’t care if they shot at me.
Father Andrew’s face looked like an overly ripe tomato. He was growling and grinding his teeth in anger and hatred. I knew he couldn’t understand how someone such as myself could out wit people old and more skilled than me. But it’s fair isn’t it?
“ Damnit, shot the girl then! He’ll come!” Father Andrew curse and ordered, and the guards pointed their guns at Sister Eva. “ Now FIRE!!”
“ NOOO!!!” Sister Eva screamed and threw her hands up to protect herself, but it would do her no good.
I grabbed her a second before the guards started shooting. I ran, suddenly felling weak and tired. I had to get to the woods. We would be safer there. Just a little farther, I just had to keep this form a few seconds longer.
“ Liebe? Are you okay?” Sister Eva petted my wolf nose. Her eyes were full of worry.
“ I’m not going to be able to keep this form much longer. We’ll have to run on foot then, well human foot I should say.” I said, groaning. I was already starting to turn back.
“ Will they catch up?” She asked, looking over my shoulder.
“ I don’t think so.” I said, suddenly dropping to my knees and howled, as I turned back to my 5 year old self. “ NO!” I shouted kicking a near by tree in half.
“ Calm down, we have to move!” Sister Eva took my hand and started to run, pretty much dragging me along like a rag doll.
We were so slow. I knew that I couldn’t turn again. We weren't going to make it now. It was all over for us.
I started to pray like the people in the church did, hoping that God would hear my plead.
‘ God if you can hear me, please let Sister Eva get away. Take me instead of her, please. She deserves to live more than me!’ I prayed, shouting the prayer over and over again in my head.
“ I see them.” Someone shouted not to far away. The sound of guns being cocked and loaded echoed through the trees.
“ Run faster Liebe!” Sister Eva yanked my hand as she sped up. She was trying so hard to run away, to save us both. But it just wasn’t going to happen.
The mod behind us was getting closer every second. There were at least 40 people, but when I looked for Father Andrew he was no where in the crowd. I thought for sure that he would be here to see Sister Eva and my death. To laugh at us as we take our last breaths.
“ Don’t look at them, Liebe! Just look ahead of us, and run!” Sister Eva said breathlessly. Trying to run faster even if her body wouldn’t allow it.
Then the shooting began. People were shooting at us over and over. Bullets whizzed by my head, barely missing me. The shooting didn’t stop. Didn’t they have to reload?
There was a loud bang and a scream of pain followed not even two seconds after. That pained screamed came from Sister Eva, who was falling to the ground, her hand falling away from mine.
I slid to a stop, and dropped to my knees beside her. Blood poured from the wound in her back, she didn’t move at all.
“ Sister Eva, please get up!” I begged, shaking her lightly. She didn’t respond. “ Sister Eva don’t leave me!” I cried as I checked for a pulse. There was none. She was gone, gone forever.
I wanted to stay and wait for the people to come and take me too. All I wanted right now was to be with Sister Eva and Mother Laura forever where no one could hurt us.
I suddenly found myself standing up, and the next thing I knew I was running. Running like a bat out of hell.
Something deep down told me that I had to live, to somewhat move on with my life. Then another thought past my mind. I was going to avenge Sister Eva and Mother Laura if I ever got the chance. I would kill Father Andrew for being the cause of their deaths. I wasn’t going to let their death go unanswered.
