Hang Up

Every couple has its problems. Soon and Mai-Pai are no different.

-Soon-

Why were they doing this movie? He didn't want to do this. But here they were. Why wouldn't she listen? Hollywood was a nightmare. Soon just wanted to go home. Mai-Pai's cheerfulness didn't help.

“Come on!” she said on the plane. “It will be fun! Think of it like a vacation!” A vacation. It didn't feel like it. Why couldn't she see his discomfort? He couldn't say what he thought. Not like she was going to listen.

Soon leaned back in his chair. Mai-Pai turned her head.

“Something wrong?” she asked. Soon looked at her. He didn't say anything. They have been doing this a lot lately.

-Mai-Pai-

Why won't he tell her what he really was thinking? Mai-Pai would ask what was wrong. Soon wouldn't answer. She doesn't know how to help him. The kids weren't much help. No, this wasn't their problem. Boyfriend and girlfriend should handle this.

Here they were again. Mai-Pai turned to him. Soon was leaning back in his chair. His girlfriend frowned.

“What's the matter?” she asked. Soon said nothing. His girlfriend walked over to the table. She slammed her hand down on the surface.

“Why do you keep doing this to me?” Mai-Pai asked. “Talk to me!” Soon stared at her. His girlfriend sighed.

“I want to help you,” she said. “But I can't do that if you won't talk to me.” Soon stared at her. He's been like this since they went to Hollywood. No, it was before then.

Now, Soon didn't talk much. She understood why. But Mai-Pa wants to help. She might not be able to do it alone.

“I think you need to see a therapist,” the woman said. Soon gave her a strange look.

“What?” he asked. Mai-Pai shrugged.

“I mean… might as well,” she said. “You need to talk to someone.” Soon frowned.

“No!” he said. It took Mai-Pai's all not to scream.

“You need help!” she shouted. “I want to help you, but you won't talk to me. How am I supposed to help if you won't talk to me!” Soon stood up and walked out of the dining room.

“Soon!” Mai-Pai wailed. He waved her off as he walked away. His girlfriend held up her hand but lowered it. She had her answer. Soon needed some help.

Actually, they both needed some help. This was normal for couples after all.
