Chapter 3
The explosive roar of an engine being suddenly and violently revved jerked Tobias out of the slight melancholy attitude his mind had drifted into. He’d been feeling somewhat off base all day long. His emotions kept jumping about with little regards to whatever his current situation might have been at the moment. It had been particularly bad during the first half of the flight, though he’d mellowed out fairly well for the final few hours with a little help.
Said help currently sat in the driver’s seat of the luxury sedan that had been waiting in the airport’s overnight parking. The vehicle was amazingly similar to the rental car that they had taken to the airport back home, virtually identical as far as Tobias could tell. Which was probably a good thing as it meant the two cars probably handled the same. Aras’s driving was no less of a knuckle whitening experience today than it had been yesterday, and every little bit of rationale Tobias could summon to quell the instinct to fling himself bodily from the car in a desperate gamble for life helped. She hadn’t crashed the rental car, so it seemed likely she wouldn’t crash this one...right?
The ride had become far more tolerable once they had gotten away from the airport, and out onto the highway. It was only a bit passed midday, and traffic was pretty light, especially once they had gotten off the direct line between McCarran International and Las Vegas. The current roadway ran in a gradual, easy curve around Sin City, and even Aras’s petal to the floor driving style couldn’t be seen as all that perilous with nothing around but miles of empty desert.
It had been the simple, repetitive view that had lulled Tobias into an unfocused daze, letting his thoughts wander. They had, annoyingly, drifted into consideration of everything he had left behind. While a few hour plane trip was hardly an insurmountable obstacle that meant he could never go back again, there was a sense of increasing reality and permanence for the new direction he was heading. His old life was seeming further and further gone with every hour and every mile.
The pack of leather bound bikers that swarmed up behind the sedan rather nicely punted such thoughts from Tobias’s mind. He turned around in his seat, and could clearly make out the features of the foremost rider as the man rode up nearly on the bumper of the car. He had the worn, leathered look of a man who’s seen too much sun and wind, his skin pulled tight but thick around his large face. He was heavy featured, with a big nose, strong chin, and protruding brows. He sported a classic biker’s beard; long, wiry, and wild from the wind. His thick arms were sleeved in tattoos, and a bullring was set into his nose.
With a roar from his bike he swung alongside the car, riding on up on the shoulder as he pulled alongside the sedan, and reached out a heavy hand to rap on the window Keri had been staring out. She’d been looking thoughtfully out at the passing desert ever since they’d left the airport and hadn’t even seemed to notice the biker gang despite the thundering engines. She jumped a bit at the knock, and then glared through the glass in an annoyed fashion before stabbing a finger down on the controls.
“Hey there sweet tits!” The man called out over the rush of wind. “Miss me?”
“Like I miss a gaping hole in my head!” Keri shouted back. “You’re a pig Bill!”
“Aw, you’re too kind Keri!” Bill replied, grinning broadly enough to show off several gold teeth. “Hey, how about a race? Loser blows the winner!”
“Sure, and after that we can have an arm wrestling contest, loser hands over their ride!” Keri suggested.
Bill flipped his head down, causing his sunglasses to slide down his nose enough that he could look over the top of the shades.
“Shit, might be worth it!” He laughed, and winked at Keri. She rolled her eyes, but grinned slightly.
“You want me to run him off the road boss lady?” Aras shouted, loud enough to be heard outside the car.
“Aw come on now Aras!” Bill yelled in mock hurt. “Is that anyway to treat a guy who’s only ever said good things about your fine ass?”
“You’re making me consider letting her Bill!” Keri told the biker, who made a dramatic show of sighing.
“Never gunna win with you, am I?” he asked, hamming it up.
“Not a chance Bill!” Keri said, crossing her arms sternly and giving him an over the top scowl.
“Don’t know what you’re missing!” Bill informed her. His bike’s engine punctuated the words with a rumbling roar as he sped on ahead, waving one hand in fair well. Taking their cue from their leader the rest of the gang sped up, flashing by on either side of the car with no regards for the road markings.
“You...know some interesting people aunt Keri,” Tobias commented drily as the juujin rolled the window back up, drowning out some part of the thundering cacophony swarming around them.
Keri gave a small laugh, one hand running through her violet hair, tucking down the strands that had blown free. “Bill’s a little more interesting than most. Fortunately he and those like him are a minority in my life.”
“He seems nice I guess, in a crude sort of way.”
“Yeah,” Keri said, rolling her eyes. “He’s been that way ever since we met. I think his pride demands it or he’d still be pissed about me hanging his bike up.”
Tobias blinked at that. “What?” he demanded after a beat.
“He was piss drunk the first time I saw him,” Keri explained. “And making a total ass of himself harassing some girls. Long story short, I told him to knock it off and he got in my face over it. So I picked up his motorcycle and hooked the front wheel over a nearby street lamp. Left it hanging there and him staring in disbelief as I ushered the girls off.”
Tobias smirked. “How did he get it back down?”
“No idea,” Keri said. “I didn’t see him again for a few years actually, totally forgot about him, but he obviously remembered me. Approached me in a bar and...” she cut off, frowning. “Oh she had better not.”
Tobias followed Keri’s gaze and saw one of the bikers hadn’t just blown by them, but had pulled in front of the car. He dropped back so close they should have been hearing the rear wheel of the bike rubbing against the fender at any second.
A lithe looking woman was standing up on the back of the bike, one hand resting lightly on the helmet of the driver as the distance between the two vehicles closed. She was dressed in ragged and torn jeans, the legs unevenly cut off so that one came down to mid calf and the other stopped short of her knee. A hard worn leather vest barely covered her torso, the article of clothing clearly meant for someone several sizes smaller, or maybe someone posing for a dirty magazine. She wore it like a corset, pulled skin tight along the bottom half, the top half with the steel buttons popped open to display an ample amount of curved flesh, made to seem all the more sizable by being pushed up by her wardrobe. Thick, heavy work boots of a light tan had been cut down to just under her ankles. A half helmet barely covered any of her head, allowing reddish-orange spikes of hair to jut out all around the edge. Brownish tan stripes ran up the pale skin of her arms, four or five inch bands thicker in the middle and thinning out to points.
Tobias only had a second to take in the details, because as soon as the gap was closed enough for her to do so, the woman stepped lightly off the back of the bike and right onto the hood of the car. The biker waved a hand to her, and sped up to chase after the departing gang.
“Holy shit!” he exclaimed, and tried not to think about how fast they were going, or how much flesh the highway would take off someone who landed on it at such a speed. He glanced over at aunt Keri, who looked far more annoyed than worried as the redhead walked across the lengthy hood of the sedan and with careless grace swung down and in through the passenger window Aras had rolled down for her.
“You better not have put any dents in my car Raas,” Keri growled as soon as the window shut, cutting off the howling wind. Raas half turned in her seat, and flashed Keri a truly insolent grin.
“Aw, ease up Keri, I can pop em back flush, you know that,” she said in airy tones.
“That is not the point,” Keri replied sternly. “See if you take it so lightly when I put some ‘dents’ in your bike.”
“Come on, I was just saving Rich the trouble of dropping me off since we just happened to run across you guys out here.” Her eyes sparkled. “Though if you really want Bill and the guys stopping by...”
Keri snorted and glared, but said nothing. Raas’s smile widened. She then turned her gaze to regard Tobias.
“This him?” she asked curiously.
“That’s him,” Aras supplied after a few seconds of silence in which Keri elected not to answer.
“Cool,” Raas said simply. She leaned forward and stuck her fist at Tobias. “Raas.”
“Tobias,” he replied, raising his own fist and bumping knuckles with the redhead.
“Pleasure,” she offered back, then turned to Aras. “So, how is he?”
“Decent,” Aras answered. “Nothing special, but I think we can fix that; he’s rather enthusiastic.”
Tobias put his face in his hands as the context of the conversation hit him, and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
“Enthusiasm’s nice,” Raas said in tones better suited to discussing paint options.
“He’s a shameless perv too,” Aras added. “Groped me in public.”
“Really?” Raas asked with slightly more interest. She looked back at Tobias thoughtfully.
“That was a misunderstanding,” he managed to say by way of explanation...
-------------------------
Aras had been looking a bit tense that morning when they’d gotten on the plane, and a it hadn’t taken much to get her to admit to being nervous about flying.
“Nothing serious,” she told Tobias. “Not like a phobia or anything, I just...don’t care for it.”
She’d gotten more and more tense as the plane had taxied onto the runway, and even grabbed his hand during take off, her eyes closed and her breathing taking on the artificial tone of a forced rhythm.
“Sorry,” she said once they’d leveled out, her voice drained of it’s usual playful cheer. She let go of his hand slowly.
“It’s okay,” he told her. He still wasn’t certain why he’d done it, but he had reached up and started gently stroking her hair, running his fingers through the silken strands. She jerked in mild surprise at the casual forwardness of it, but quickly relaxed after the shock had passed and enjoyed the soothing sensation.
When his hand had brushed absently against one short furred feline ear Aras had sighed in a most content fashion and tilted her head at him, prompting him to focus his attention. He traced slow, gentle trails up and down along the edges of the offered ear while the catgirl gradually sunk lower and lower in her seat, her eyes drooping shut by slow degrees.
Then aunt Keri had looked up from her magazine, saw what was happening, and promptly folded the periodical in half and whapped Aras over the head with it, eliciting a startled “Ack!” out of the dark skinned juujin.
“What are you doing?” Keri hissed, taking a quick glance around to see if anyone was paying attention.
“What?” Aras replied defensively. “A girl can’t enjoy a nice ear rub?”
“You have no shame,” Keri whispered fiercely, jabbing the folded magazine at the catgirl. “And you are not teaching my nephew that such behavior is alright.”
“Whoa, aunt Keri,” Tobias broke in. “What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong is you might as well have had your hand up the front of her shirt,” Keri informed him. “I suppose I can’t blame you for not knowing, but a catgirl’s ears are...sensitive.”
“Oh,” Tobias replied, glancing at Aras. She returned the look with a far too innocent smile.
“Come on,” she wheedled at Keri. “How many people actually know that huh? I need something to take the edge off.”
“Order a drink then,” Keri suggested ruthlessly. “I am not going to have my nephew groping the help less than a foot away from me.”
---------------------
...“Total misunderstanding,” Tobias repeated.
“Sure wasn’t any misunderstanding later,” Aras hinted suggestively.
“Aras,” Keri said in warning tones.
“Oh?” Raas inquired.
“Raas,” Keri snapped.
“Geez Keri,” Raas complained, flopping back in her seat. “Since when did you have a problem with talking shop?”
“Since it involves my nephew, that’s when,” Keri informed her coldly.
“Seriously, that bugs you?” Raas asked. “Guess that means you haven’t considered seeing if he’d be willing to slip you some nice, hard...”
The rest of Raas’s sentence was abruptly cut off as Keri’s hand snapped out and slapped the back of the biker chick’s seat. The sharp impact transferred right through the fabric and padding and launched the unbelted Raas right out of the chair, sending her crashing into the dashboard with a startled “Oof!” Stunned, she fell down and became wedged down in the leg room under the dash.
Tobias stared at his aunt, and only realized his mouth was hanging open in surprise about a second before her gaze turned to regard him. He met her reddish-violet eyes for an instant, and then they both promptly looked away, pointedly not glancing at each other. An uncomfortable silence squeezed itself into the backseat with them.
“Damn,” Raas piped up after a minute of squirming about in order to extradite herself from the floor of the car. “Alright, objection duly noted.” She settled back into her seat and stared out the window. Minutes passed with nothing but the steady hum of the engine and the whisper of highway under the tires. “So what, mile high club?” Raas suddenly asked without preamble, and then ducked as Keri growled.
Tobias glanced up at the rearview mirror, and he saw Aras’s smiling eyes regarding him, and he felt his cheeks tighten as a slight grin crossed his features...
----------------------
Tobias hadn’t really needed to use the airplane’s restroom, but it had been a good enough excuse for a chance to stand up and stretch his legs a bit. Even with the comfortable amount of space provided by first class seating, Tobias could only stand to be sitting down for so long. He needed to get up and move far more than he really needed to use the facilities.
He had also needed to get away from Aras for a moment, to grab a few moments to compose himself. While there hadn’t been anything particularly erotic in rubbing the catgirl’s ears for him, learning what the act was equivalent to for her had made up the difference. Knowing that she’d been getting a sexual thrill off of it had given his libido a direct line to his conscious brain, and it had wasted little time in filling his head with certain thoughts and images.
Aras had not been making things any easier for him either. As soon as aunt Keri had gone back to reading her magazine, the chocolate skinned catgirl had launched a stealth assault upon Tobias’s self restraint. Between making sad puppy dog eyes at him while tilting her head invitingly his way, crossing her arms up high under her breasts to shove her cleavage towards him, and crossing her legs so that more and more smooth flesh was exposed, inch by inch as the fabric of her clothing rode higher and higher, she had managed to wind him up to a point just shy of qualifying as actual torture.
It had been no small effort to tear his eyes away from her long enough to mumble “I need to use the restroom,” and escape while his legs were still under his control.
He barely had a moment to splash some water on his face and start trying to calm down when a bizarre crackling noise had sounded behind him, and he spun around to find Aras coming right through the narrow restroom doorway. A blue-white glow, like dozens of static shocks, danced where her flesh intersected with the door. She stepped through the plastic like it wasn’t there, and all but pounced on him as soon as she was inside.
The sudden impact of her body against his knocked him off balance and only the complete lack of space within the tiny room kept him upright as Aras molded up against him. She pulled his head down and kissed him as if meaning to climb into his mouth. Her hands quickly trailed down the length of his body to begin undoing the front of his pants.
Some small, proper minded part of him tried to balk at the notion. The restroom might offer some degree of privacy, but just barely. The thin walls and door would barely block sound at all, and the rearmost seats of the plane couldn’t have been more than a foot and half away. There was absolutely no way his sense of propriety or embarrassment would consent to such an idea.
So his libido did not bother to ask for approval or permission, and just plowed right on ahead. While she was busy pulling down the front of his boxers he slid hands under the bottom of her chauffeur jacket, pulling it up to bare her hips. He grabbed the waistband of her panties, and felt a sudden tingling sensation. There was a crackling buzz, and he was left holding the suddenly empty undergarment as it passed effortless right through Aras’s body.
She didn’t give him time to be get over the surprise. Shoving him firmly back against the rear wall, she lifted one long, smooth, delicately curved leg until her booted foot rested near his head. Tobias was all too willing to take the hint, tossing the panties aside and taking hold of Aras by the hips as she guided him inside her.
The wonderful, warm, wet, tight sensation from the night before once again engulfed Tobias, and he pulled the juujin’s hips firm against his. Aras’s arms wound about him, her head thrown back, bearing the slender, tantalizing lines of her throat. She ground her hips into him, rocking with sensual grace.
Tobias grit his teeth in an effort to smother the vocal approval that tried to climb out his mouth. Aras grinned at him, her eyes shining with a mirthful understanding at the muted groan. She restrained her own voice with what seemed to be entirely unfair ease as she rolled his length around inside her, staying utterly silent save for her steady breathing.
The moment went by quickly, the tight space and auditory restrictions leaving little options for play. There was a primal, animalistic thrill in the simplicity of it though, the most basic expression of the instinct to breed. There was nothing even remotely romantic or emotional about the act, it was sex for the sole purpose of shared pleasure.
As soon as she had gotten Tobias off, Aras reached down between them with one hand. There was a buzzing sound, and Tobias felt a tingling charge shoot right through to the back of his hips. It wasn’t exactly painful, or even unpleasant really, but very unexpected. He jerked, but didn’t have any place to pull away from her to. Aras smirked at him for a moment, then her face twisted in an expression of pure bliss.
The catgirl shuddered against him, and her insides clamped down tight around his member as her back arched. Bluish flashes of light pulsed where her fingers met her flesh, casting up strobing shadows that rendered her writhing in jerky images in the dim bathroom.
Once the light show ended and Aras got both feet on the floor again she leaned into him, arms around his middle, and just held him a moment as both of them brought their breathing under control.
“I needed that,” Aras said as she leaned back a bit to look up at him. “I must admit, I didn’t think you’d get this forward so quickly. One night of sex and you’re already inviting me to secret rendevous in bathrooms...”
“Huh?” Tobias asked, and the smile on Aras’s face turned slightly wooden.
“You...did invite me back here for sex, right?”
“I did?”
“Oh come on now,” Aras insisted, quirking a puzzled eyebrow at him.
“What? All I said was ‘I need to use the bathroom’. How is that a secret invitation?”
“...holy shit,” Aras said after a beat, staring at Tobias like she’d never seen the like of him before. “You really just meant what you said, didn’t you? And there I was, reading between the lines something that wasn’t really there.” She stared at him a moment more, then started shaking with suppressed laughter.
“What?” Tobias asked.
“Sorry,” Aras choked out between muffled giggles. “It’s just funny. I’m so used to dealing with...well, people a lot more experienced than you, who’ve been playing at seduction for years.” Tobias grimaced at that, but Aras reached up to cup his face in her hands. “Aw, don’t be like that. I don’t mean anything cruel by it, just being truthful. Being inexperienced is not something to ashamed of, everyone starts off a beginner.” Her eyes suddenly shone with excitement. “And I have you. Oooo, I have you,” she repeated with a slow purr.
“Uh...” Tobias said.
“Don’t you get it?” She asked, and he could only shake his head. Her teeth showed as she smiled up at him. “Well, we’re going to be living together you know.”
“We are?”
“Oh yes,” She crooned. “I’m part of the live in staff, your aunt puts me up in her home so I’m always on hand. So I’m never going to be all that far away.”
“Well, I’m still not sure what point you’re driving at, but that much sounds good to me,” Tobias told her.
“The point,” she said, poking a finger at his chest. “Is that you’ve been freshly weaned off virginity, and are going to be living with me. Most people have to learn through trial and error, you however are going to get to drink right from the cup of sexual knowledge...me.”
Tobias blinked at her. “You’re offering to teach me about sex?”
“Offering nothing,” Aras told him. “I’m hijacking your education in this area, and not just about sex. You need to learn about women, human and juujin. You need to learn about seduction, how to act and how to handle things when you do talk a girl into bed.” She all but vibrated with excitement. “I will teach you how to please a woman, and how to enjoy sex more yourself. By the time I’m done with you, you’ll be the fucking god of orgasms.”
“Uh...” Tobias said, the catgirl’s intensity starting to get a bit unnerving. “Well, I mean...shit, what can I say to that?”
“You can say ‘Yes Aras, whatever you say, I submit myself to your tutelage and will do everything you tell me’” she suggested. Tobias snorted at her.
“I don’t know that I’d go that far, but fine. Even if I could think of a good reason to turn you down, and I can’t, I don’t think I could say no to that kind of offer. Though I have to ask, what do you get out of this? This all sounds like a lot of time and effort, what makes you want to go through that much trouble for some guy you’ve known for not even twenty four hours?”
“A few reasons,” Aras told him. “For starters, we’re going to be living together for at least the next two years. You won’t come of age until then and I’m sure not going to be giving up working for your aunt, so we’re stuck with each other until then and probably longer. That means I can either learn to ignore you, or learn to like you. And you seem much more fun to like. Then there’s just the challenge of finding out if I can. And bragging rights if I succeed.” She gave him a sudden, smoldering gaze. “And of course, I get all the fun of teaching you. There is going to be lots and lots of hands on demonstrations and practice. And if and when you complete my training, I’ll have my very own orgasm god, who will surely be willing to bestow his divine blessings upon his favored teacher...”
“Why, what selfless thinking,” Tobias commented drily. “I thought juujin were suppose to be the sex toys.”
“Nah, we just like to let you guys think that so you don’t realize how much we use you for our own fulfillment,” Aras smirked at him. “So how about? Do as I tell you, and I’ll turn you into the kind of guy who makes girls cream their panties with a look and a smile.”
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot,” Tobias told her. “What have I got to lose?”
----------------------------
“...this, is home?” Tobias asked, staring out the window.
“I’ll admit, it’s not exactly your standard three bed, two and half bath in the suburb deal,” Keri replied. “But once you get used to it I think you’ll find it to be perfectly homely.”
Tobias cast his aunt a somewhat dubious glance but said nothing as he climbed out of the car. The sedan was parked below a massive canopy, which had been decorated to resemble towering palm trees. The twin pillars holding up the sun shading cloth hadn’t simply been painted, but were encased in some synthetic looking material that wasn’t quite indistinguishable from real palm bark, but was close enough to pass as such under casual scrutiny. The canopy itself stretched wide enough to shade a few dozen cars at once, and was a mix of blue and green that suggested a view up through intertwine branches.
To either side of the covered entrance, a massive structure spread out. The building was over twice the length of a football field, and Tobias could only guess how far back it ran. It was built around a single sky scraping tower, blocked from view at the moment, but the equally high wings of the structure were quite visible as they swept off to either side of the spire, forming a slight angle between them like the arms of a wide set compass. A shorter but still impressive structure curved out to join the ends of the outstretched wings, the farthest edge of which Tobias now stood before. A crystal clear dome rose from the top of the outer curve of the building, climbing upwards and backwards until it reached the top of the towering wings.
Images flashed across the curved surface of the dome, a bit pale in the mid afternoon brightness, but still clear enough to make out. A pair of giant feline eyes, golden yellow with vertical pupils, stared out across the city for a moment, before giving a little bob and winking. The eyes vanished, and bold red lettering scrolled across the glass, ‘The Wildcat’. As the words vanished off the edge, the eyes returned.
“You live in one of your hotels?” Tobias asked.
“Hey, don’t knock it,” Aras pipped up before Keri could reply. “It’s not like we’re staying in the guest rooms, we have our own personal area at the top of tower set aside.”
“I know it’s unusual,” Keri added, her voice a bit softer than normal. “But please, at least wait and see before you judge?”
Something in her tone made Tobias pause. She almost sounded nervous, or perhaps uncertain.
“Okay, I’ll give it a fair try,” he said.
Aras tossed the car keys to a red vested valet who came strolling their way. The vest made a rather interesting contrast to the girl’s pale blue skin, and it did little to hide the slender curves of her form, especially as it was the only thing covering the upper half of her body; barely. Skin hugging black shorts just came down to mid thigh on her elegantly long legs. Her midnight blue hair, though caught up in a ponytail, was only lightly pulled back from her face, enough hanging loose to sway and bob on either side of her head. Five slender spikes rose out of her hair in a fan about her face, and a long, whip like tail coiled and waved behind her.
Her tail snapped out in a sudden blur of liquid smooth motion, and snagged the keys out of the air. She spun the keys around on the end of the appendage just as someone else might do about their finger.
“Welcome back Ms. Kirkwood,” the valet said respectfully.
“Keri, Miko. You can call me Keri,” the tall juujin responded with the precise tones of someone repeating something said many times over.
“I know Ms. Kirkwood,” Miko replied, and Keri let out a little sigh and rolled her eyes. The blue skinned juujin purposefully did not see or hear either. “Aras, Raas,” she greeted the two with calm friendliness and a slight smile caressing her small mouth.
“Miko,” Aras returned the greeting and smile.
“S’up?” Raas drawled.
Then the girl’s emerald eyes turned to Tobias, and a sparkle of interest flared in them.
“Tobias,” Raas provided absently, jerking a thumb at him before anyone else could speak.
“Tobias,” Miko repeated slowly, as if savoring the name, drawing out the s in a breathy fashion. She extended a hand to him, palm flat, fingers light spaced, like a Lady of old greeting a Gentleman.
“Nice to meet you,” Tobias told her, taking the offered hand. Her skin was amazingly smooth, almost slick, and slightly chilled despite the blazing heat of the day. Tobias hesitated a moment, then gave her a polite nod, deciding that even if it had been appropriate and what she expected, there was no way he could pull off kissing the back of her without looking like a doofus.
If she was disappointed, it didn’t show at all. Indeed her smile only widened, dark blue lips parting to revealing dainty teeth, perfectly square and straight, of a shimmering pearly white.
“So Miko,” Aras cut in after a few seconds in which the blue skinned juujin stared intently at Tobias. “You coming to the party tonight?”
“Of course,” Miko answered smoothly, drawing her hand back with casual grace, her fingers slipping from Tobias’s grasp like water. “Wouldn’t miss it for anything,” she added, looking right at Tobias.
Off to the side, Keri cleared her throat. “If we could please,” she said firmly. “It’s been a long day.”
“Right, sorry,” Miko said, clasping her hands before her waist and this time truly bowing at Keri. “Have a good day Ms. Kirkwood. Aras, Raas...Tobias, I’ll see you later tonight.”
She glided around the car, quick but unrushed, slid into the driver’s seat, and with a sure swing of her tail, slipped the keys in and started the engine back up.
“Come on,” Keri said as the sedan pulled smoothly away. “It’s too hot out here, even in the shade.”
The front doors to the hotel slide open as the group approached, and a virtual gale of chilled wind came spilling out, deliciously cool. The doors lead into a reception hall unlike any Tobias had ever seen before. Though it had a pair of check in counters on either side and a concierge desk in the center, the decor made it resemble less a hotel lobby and more a seaside cave.
The walls looked to be formed of water sculpted stone, smooth but irregular, and streaked with veins of various minerals. The tiled floor had the tone and pattern of sand, if not the texture, and potted dwarf palm trees were scattered about. The reception desks were set into the walls where the faux stone looked to have been scooped away, the counters each formed from a single massive slab of rock set within the holed opening, the surfaces smoothed and polished to a near mirror finish.
The concierge desk was modeled after a tiki hut, the wooden planks dyed and polished so the grain shone. The straw roof was an aged brown and just tasseled enough to look authentic but not ramshackled, and the poles holding it up looked like real bamboo. The desk itself was open on all sides, with a waist high ring of dark wood encircling it for a counter. A trio of torches set around it flicked with artificial flame.
All three locations were staffed by juujin, and they were all wearing as little if not less than Miko the valet had been. Some certain parts of Tobias began to consider that perhaps living at a hotel, at least a hotel like this one, might not be such a bad thing after all. He must have been staring a bit obviously, because Aras smacked him on the arm, and gave him a wry grin.
They hadn’t managed to cross even half the lobby before they were intercepted by a flustered yet relieved looking woman of middling years, silver creeping into her reddish brown hair. She was fair featured and well dressed in a business suit not much less impressively tailored than Keri’s. She also looked capable of chewing up nails and spitting out quarters.
“Keri, thank the lord!” the woman proclaimed as she homed in on the group with all the comforting reassurance of an incoming cruise missile.
“Rachel,” Keri greeted the woman, her face taking on an expression of concerned puzzlement. “What’s the matter?”
“Bah!” Rachel growled. “It’s Mr. Ashfield. The man is such a... ” She paused, taking a deep breath to calm herself before continuing. “He will just not be pleased. Nothing is good enough for him, and he has been demanding to see you since practically the hour you left.”
“Right, right,” Keri sighed, looking both disgusted and tired. “Where is he now?”
“Up in the casino, raising an absolute fuss of course!”
Keri nodded, and cast an apologetic look at Tobias. “I’m sorry, I had planned to show you around myself, but I really need to deal with this.”
“Sure, I understand aunt Keri,” Tobias said.
“Aras, with me,” Keri said, and the catgirl flinched.
“Aw come on Keri...” she whined.
“Don’t even start with me,” Keri ordered.
“But someone needs to show Tobias to his room,” she tried to argue.
“Raas,” Keri said in a falsely sweet tone. “Would you be so kind as to escort my nephew upstairs?”
“Yeah, sure,” Raas agreed, smirking at Aras.
“Thank you,” Keri continued in the same sickly sweet voice. Then she snapped her fingers at Aras and barked. “Move it!”
“So...” Raas said once it was just her and Tobias. “You and my sister have fun?”
“Your...sister?” Tobias asked uncertainly.
“Yeah, Aras,” Raas said with a jerk of her head towards the retreating catgirl. Tobias cast a glance after the chocolate toned juujin, then regarded the pale skinned woman.
“Uh, when you say sister, is that like...” Tobias floundered, trying to think of the properly PR friendly wording.
“Like what?” Raas asked.
“Well I mean, she’s kind of...and you’re more...”
Raas stared at him for a second like he was a babbling idiot, then a light clicked on in her head.
“No, not like that,” she said. “She’s not my Sista,” she told him, with a precise side to side jerk of her head. “She’s my big sister.”
“Okay...so who was adopted?”
Raas gave him another ‘you moron’ stare, then sighed and took off her biking helmet, revealing a pair of cat ears bearing identical striped markings to those on her arms.
“No one was adopted, she is my blood sister,” Raas said in those slow tones reserved for individuals who have trouble grasping simple concepts, like two plus two is four, and water is wet. “Despite how she looks, we come from the same parents. It’s just when we thresholded I got a tiger for my base animal type and she got a panther. I got stripes, she got dark skin. Get it?”
“Oh,” Tobias replied simply. He thought about it for a moment, than asked. “So, Aras is actually a white girl?”
Raas shrugged. “No idea. Guess it depends on what you believe makes a person black or white.” She studied him for a beat. “Does it matter?”
“Well, no not really,” he admitted. When she kept staring at him he added. “It’s just, I don’t know, I guess there was something...exciting about the idea of being with a black girl?”
Raas smirked at him. “I think the word you’re looking for is exotic.”
“Yeah, right, that.”
“So how is the way she looks any less exotic if she isn’t technically black? It doesn’t change anything about her appearance after all.”
“I...well...yeah, I guess you’re right.”
“Heh, you’re kind of a dork, aren’t you?” Raas said with a grin.
“Ouch, my pride,” Tobias quipped.
“Well at least you can take a hit without whining,” she said, her tone approving. “I still don’t see why Aras seems so suddenly taken with you, but I suppose I could give you a chance.”
“Well gee, how can I repay such kindness?” Tobias replied.
“Oh don’t even try that on me,” Raas told him with a crushing grin. “I hang out with bikers, those dudes have more attitude in one ball than you do in your whole body.”
“Well I guess if anyone knows about their balls...”
Raas pursed her lips thoughtfully at him, then nodded to herself. “I see now. Not a tough guy really, but you can stand your ground when someone pushes you. I can respect that.” She smiled evilly at him. “You’re still a dork though.” She punched him playfully in the arm.
“Ow!”
“See? Whimp,” she teased.
“Tell me you spend most of your time out with your little gang.”
“Aw, sick of me already?” She pouted, but wasn’t all that convincing with the smile on her face. She looped an arm around his, the one she’d bruised of course, and steered him bodily around the faux tiki hut. “Hope you brought some barf bags from the plane then, cause I think I’m going to stick to you all night along. Promises to fun one way or another.”
“I suppose it’s too late to run, huh?” Tobias asked drily as he let the juujin haul him out of the reception area and into the depths of The Wildcat...

Omake
220;And cut!” Phil called, sinking back into his folding chair with a weary sigh. “Finally, maybe now we can get back on schedule...”
“Well if someone wasn’t delirious half the time from ODing on his pain meds...” Keri remarked to no one in particular.
“Maybe if someone hadn’t needed a whole freaking week just to do a solo scene,” Raas muttered.
“Hey, does anyone else hear this little, whining sound?” Keri shot back.
“Bite me you wanna be prima donna...”
“Both of you shut the hell up!” Phil cut in, rubbing at his temples. “We’re done, we’re moving on, let it go!”
Raas and Keri glared at each other for a moment longer, before both turned away from the other and stalked off.
“Hey Phil, could I talk to you for a minute?” Tobias asked as the set began to clear out.
“You’ve got till I can hobble back to my trailer,” Phil informed him, hauling himself up on his crutches. He reached down and plucked up his Styrofoam cup of coffee and thrust it at Tobias. “Here, carry this.”
Tobias took the cup and fell into pace with the director. “It’s about that extra, Miko.”
“Yeah, what about her?” Phil asked, his mind only half on the conversation.
“Well I was talking with her between shoots, and I think she has some real potential.”
Phil scowled. “Potential? Tobias you’re an actor, sort of, not a talent scout.”
“I know, I know,” Tobias agreed quickly. “But...I might have promised her a chance to have some more speaking roles.”
Phil stopped in mid-hobble, and turned suddenly beady eyes on Tobias.
“You...did...what?”
Tobias held up his hands in a placating manner. “Just, give her a chance, please? She’s really rather decent, and she’s awfully cute, right? I think she’d be a good prefor...actress.”
“Oh for the love of...” Phil grumbled and resumed walking. “You just want her to have a bigger role so you can fuck her.”
“What?” Tobias said in a shocked voice that did not cast a good light on his supposed acting skills. “No, of course not, I was just...”
“Unbelievable,” Phil spoke right over him. “The current line up not good enough for you?”
“I didn’t say that,” Tobias protested.
“Good, cause I’d hate to have to downgrade you from idiot to moron,” Phil grouched.
“Come on Phil, she’s one of the more exotic girls we have on this production, main cast or other wise,” Tobias pointed out. “How often do you come across someone with her coloration or features?”
Phil rolled his eyes, but paused as they reached the door to his trailer. He glanced up at Tobias, then out across the studio.
“Hey! Miko!” He bellowed, and the girl gave a startled “eep!” and fell out of the rack of clothing she’d been hiding in. Phil gave Tobias a glare, who tried not to look sheepish. “Get your blue ass in my trailer, you have five minutes to convince me to spend any more film on you.”
“Really!?” Miko exclaimed, bounding to her feet. “Thank you! Thank you!”
Phil rolled his eyes, and wondered if it was possible to pull something doing that too much. He tossed one crutch into the trailer, snagged his coffee from Tobias, and hobbled on in as Miko came bounding over, giving Tobias a grateful hug before following Phil inside.

Notes: This chapter took a bit longer than I intended to finish, but it’s done. And we’re finally to the real setting of the story, huzzah!
Special thanks go to bsmart, for being a sounding board, and lately, an architect for the hotel. This monument to sin never would have been what it is without him.
