When you woke up, it was dark and a cool breeze brushed against your bare legs and arms. You shiver, and feel something in your lap shiver too. You realized that it must have been Kazuko and wrapped your arms around him. But you also felt something like feathers brush against your arms. You opened your eyes and saw a pair of large black feathered wings surrounding you. You froze “What?” you thought. You looked down at Kazuko and saw that he had a pair of large black wings as well. Your eyes traveled up your arms, past your shoulders, and to your back, where you could feel blood drying. “Holy sh-!” you thought “I have wings!” Kazuko stirred in your lap and looked up at you and yawned. You gently lifted him up and slowly walked inside. You went up to your room and set him down on your bed, then you went to go take a shower to rinse of the blood. You came back out and, without meaning to, shook your wings dry, accidentally soaking Kazuko. “Oops, sorry.” You apologized. “No worries.” He answered.
Wait… answered? “Did you just say something?” You asked. “You heard me?” he asked. You just stared at him. “Oh my god!” you were completely freaked out; you thought you were going to go crazy! “Calm down. You're not going crazy. We have merely bonded.” he stated. “What?” you asked, a little confused. “When a Dark Person and a Dark Creature bond, they are enabled special abilities. Such as telepathy.” he says. “Then what about these?” you asked, pointing to the wings on my back. “What do you mean? Weren't you born with them? All other Dark People are.” he responds. You thought for a moment, then a thought came to your mind. “Clara!” You rushed downstairs and picked up the phone and dialed Clara's number. “… … … *click* Hello?” came her voice. “Hey Clara? Can you come over tomorrow? I need to talk to you about something. And bring that book too.” you said. “Alright… What for?” she sounded like she had just woke up. “I'll tell you when you get here, ok? Bye.” you said. “Bye. *click*” you hung up and went back to your room. “What was that all about?” asked Kazuko. “I'll tell you in the morning.” you answered, crawling into your blanket. “Goodnight.” you said. “Goodnight.” yawned Kazuko.
You woke up the next day to something licking your face. “Kazuko!” you moaned. “I'm hungry.” he stated. You groaned and sat up “Can't you give me five more minutes?” He whined “But I'm hungry!” You sighed and got out of bed. Then you made some breakfast. At about 1: 45pm, Clara knocked on your door. You cracked the door “Now, please don't scream or freak out.” you said. “Oh, hey! Cool tattoo!” she said, pointing to your forehead. “Huh? Well, do you promise?” you pleaded. “Yes, I promise! Now, let me in!” she pushed through and gasped. “Oh my gosh!” you looked down. “I-.” “Those are so cool!” she exclaimed. You looked at her like she was crazy. “What? They are!” she added. you sighed and sat on the couch. “Now… What tattoo?” you asked. She pointed at your forehead once more and said “Its just like what that fox had on its forehead.” You stood and went to the mirror in the bathroom and traced your finger over the crescent, it stung and you flinched. Your eyes, unconsciously travel down your arms and onto your open palm. “Holy sh-!” you exclaim.
Clara comes barging in and asks “What's wrong?” You stared at the strange mark on your palm. Clara follows your gaze “Oh my…” her mouth drops “How did you get that?” her voice was full of worry. On your palm was a large burn mark in the shape of the Star of David. The funny thing was that you didn't feel any pain, like your forehead. you touched it, but still felt nothing, just normal. “It doesn't hurt. But my forehead does.” you said. “Whoa.” she said. “'Whoa' what?” you asked. “The crescent on your forehead just turned grey.” she points. You looked back into the mirror and see that it did. “A mood tattoo.” you said. She giggles and you smile at her. The crescent turns orange, happiness.

You both go back into the living room and you asked her “Did you bring the book?” you sat down on the couch once more. She raises the old book over her head “Yup!” she smiled. She sat next to you and opened it to the picture of the fox creature again. “I read it and it said that once a Dark Creature and a Dark Person unite, or “bond”, they-,” you cut her off “They get special abilities.” She stared at you for a second “How did you know?” she asked. “Kazuko told me.” you answered. “Kazuko?” she looked at you, confused. Just then, Kazuko jumps onto your lap and says “Somebody call me?” you smiled and patted his head. “Oh, you named him Kazuko. Do you even know what that name means?” she looks at you with a serious face. “Hm? It has a meaning? It just popped in my head.” you stroked his back. Clara flips to the back of the book and reads out loud “Kazuko, one who brings comfort and tranquility; also the name of the brave Dark warrior from the forming of the New Age who sacrificed his life for his lover, the princess Serena.” she finishes and looks back at you. “And what do you mean that he told you? He can't speak can he?” she looks at him, quizzically. “I can only speak to you, Alexia.” says Kazuko. “He can only speak to me.” you said, then added to Kazuko “Just call me Alex.” He rested his head on your lap. “Well, he seems to trust you.” smiles Clara as she flips to another page. “I found out what that mark on your shoulder was.” You look at the book and go pale “I'm a… no, no I won't accept it!” you shouted, clenching your fist.
“The mark of the royal family… which makes you… a princess.” Clara said. The crescent turned red as you felt anger flood through you. “I can accept that I am a Darokei, but I will not accept that I am royalty!” you stood up, accidentally knocking Kazuko on the ground and he grumbled “What was that for?” Clara stared at you “How did you know that they called themselves Darokei?” you thought for a moment. “It just… came out.” you said. “Hm… I'm going to try and crack the code on that website. Can I use your computer?” she asked. “Go ahead. I'll make you something to eat. What do you want?” you said, heading for the kitchen. “Just some ramen and lemonade.” She said getting up and walking toward the den.
When you had finished making her ramen, you got a tray and put the bowl and a large glass of lemonade on it and carried it to Clara. “Thanks.” she says as you place the tray on the desk next to her. “No problem.” you smile and go to the backyard. It was late afternoon and the sun was on its way to set behind the mountains. You sighed and soaked in its rays. You felt something rub against your leg and looked down. “Don't tell me, your hungry right?” you smiled. “Exactly.” says Kazuko. You went to go get him some meat, but when you came back, he had disappeared. “Kazuko! I have some food for you!” you called, but there was no answer.
