Chapter 1
Romona the Elven Peacekeeper

Peace…hell, we've all wished for peace. That would be nice, wouldn't it? However, this is not a time of peace. This is a time of war. A great war! Some call it Armageddon: the war to end all wars! However, Lathanos knew better than to believe that this was actually Armageddon. No, this was different. Lathanos was told of this war five years ago…by a force beyond our very comprehension…

“Lathanos!” a booming voice demanded.
“Who…who's there?!” Lathanos asked, looking to his left and to his right. In front of him and behind him. Above him and below. Lathanos is average height, but at the time he was only five-foot-two. He has jet black hair, which reached down to his shoulders at the time, and deep blue eyes. He was wearing a brown, leather tunic and ice blue slacks. “Where are you?! I can't see you, whoever you are!”
“Neither who nor where I am matter at this time. Now listen!” the mysterious voice replied. “Five years from now, a great and devastating war shall break out amongst the territories. It will begin from a powerful and evil elf named Etheros. You are destined to defeat him! However,” the voice paused momentarily, “he will be way too strong for you to handle at that point in time. You will need to get stronger! Firstly, go to Bascal Village when the time comes. You will know when that time is upon you. There, you shall find an old man named Viscone. He will give you your next objective,”
“But, I'm just a kid! I can't do this! I'm no hero!! How the hell am I supposed to achieve something as huge as this?!” demanded Lathanos.
“You will know…in time… We shall meet again…”
Soon after, Lathanos woke up. “Oh man, that can't be real! It was just a dream after all,”

The war has already begun. Demons and fiends are everywhere. Lathanos is now seventeen. Lathanos has become quite the skilled swordsman in the past five years. He has risen up to five feet eight inches and his hair is now down a little past his shoulders, though it's usually in a ponytail. He has since aquired a small scar over his right eye and a large one on his lower left arm. He wore a blue robe and faded red slacks. On his feet were straw sandals and black tabi socks. A silver obi clung to his waist. A katana with a black and silver hilt sheathed in a black, wooden sheath hung at his side. As mentioned earlier, his hair was in a ponytail secured with a blood red hair tie.
He was on his way to Bascal when he ran into Biathon, a terrible demon standing a tall seven-foot-two. He wore ragged clothes over his burnt orange skin. Black claws protruded from his fingers. Him and Lathanos have been fighting for what seems like days now…
Lathanos slammed to the ground. `Damn! This is the toughest demon I've fought yet!' Lathanos thought as he struggled to his feet, wiping the trail of blood from the corner of his mouth.
“Come on! Is that the best you can do?!” Biathon hissed. “You're beginning to annoy me!”
“Oh, don't worry. I'm just getting started!” Lathanos said as he readied himself. He swung his fist at Biathon for what seemed like the hundredth time. It probably was, too.
Biathon shoved him, sending him sprawling across the ground. “You are weak! You do not deserve to live!!” spat Biathon, gathering amethyst energy in his hand. He was about to fire at Lathanos, when an arrow pierced his skull, ending his miserable life. He fell to the ground, blood pooling around his lifeless corpse.
Lathanos looked up to see a woman with flowing, fiery red hair and eyes the color of amber standing no more than twenty feet away. She wore a white, long sleeved shirt and leather slacks; her clothes were made to show better. The young woman looked up slowly. Her eyes flared like the arrow she had just shot, and her hair billowed like flames in the wind. She began walking towards him. Her angelic grace was obviously elven, and when her ears became visible to him, that was certain. She smiled gently at him, her long bow lowered to her side. Suddenly, she spoke, “I am Romona, the Elven Peacekeeper,” She was still smiling.
The war in her eyes was brought on by the humans. She could, and would, wait an eternity until the war was brought to an end. She chuckled quietly as she was brought back to reality. She gazed down at him. Her eyes didn't miss a thing…yet. Her expression momentarily froze. She took a few more steps toward him. She was now standing beside him.
Her hand extended toward him as something flickered behind her. That's when Lathanos noticed her long, white wings stretched out behind her. The feathers were brushing against each other, making a sound like that of a gentle summer breeze. Her smile widened as she gladly noticed the stunned look on Lathanos's face. “Take my hand and I shall help you to your feet,” Her eyes flickered nervously, but her face was calm. She was, of course, an elf of the high court. She was also the daughter of Conner, head of the Elven Council. Memories flooded back to her, her hand still extended. Her manner toward Lathanos was strong, as most of her race loathed his kind. She continued to wait for Lathanos to take her hand. She was used to waiting…
Lathanos finally took her hand with a pleasant smile. She hoisted him onto his feet. “Thank you for saving me,” he said. Romona was silent. “I'm headed for Bascal Village. Would you like to accompany me there?” She nodded, remaining silent. “Well, then we'd best get a move on. More of Etheros's soldiers are bound to arrive, ones more powerful than the last one, I'm sure!” Romona looked up at the mention of the name “Etheros,” staring at Lathanos questioningly.
“…What?!” Lathanos asked her, staring back.
“Nothing,” she said quickly.
“Well, then let's be on our way, shall we?” She simply nodded, and they continued on in silence.
As they neared the village, the air around them changed. It was calm, yet darker, more sinister. `Oh shit,' thought Lathanos. `They already know we're here,'
“Well, well, well, what do we have here? A couple of wanderers, I presume?! And one is Elven! Oh, this is a pleasure indeed!” a voice behind them cackled. “You two are not welcome here!”
Lathanos turned around to come face-to-face with a dark red demon with short, stubby horns and liquid black eyes. He wore a simple leather tunic and slacks cut halfway down the shins. Romona was tense, yet it was obvious she was getting angry. “You're here for me, aren't you? Aren't you?!” Lathanos demanded.
Romona remained silent, turning around. She raised her bow, readying an arrow, when Lathanos raised his hand to block her. “This is my problem,” he said. “I will not allow you to get dragged into this!”
“I witnessed your fight earlier. You are gonna need help!” Romona argued. She moved to pass Lathanos, but he continued to block her.
“One of my friends ended up dead because I let him get sucked into this! I will not let another person die like that!” Lathanos snapped. “Besides, the last demon I fought had unusually tough skin. That should not be a problem with this one, as it is obvious that he's more…fleshy,”
“Alright, if you really think you can beat him, I won't stop you,” said Romona, lowering her bow and stepping back, “but if things turn for the worse, I will take over!” Lathanos unsheathed a fairly large katana. Romona's eyes went wide when she saw it. She hadn't realized just how large it really was.
Lathanos took a step toward the demon, who only stood there, laughing. “You don't scare me, Boy! I can sense your fear!”
“Oh, but it isn't fear; it's rage. Rage towards Etheros, and you!” Lathanos shouted.
“You couldn't touch him or him in the condition you're in!” the demon spat.
“I may not be able to compete with Etheros at this time, but I can most certainly take you down!”
“We shall see, Kid!” said the demon, still laughing.
“We most certainly will, Maswindos!” Lathanos replied, readying his sword.
“Huh?! How the hell do you know who I am?!” asked Maswindos, a surprised tone in his voice.
“What? You don't remember me?” Lathanos said, his grin widening. “I was the first one to defeat you in…I think you said…over a century?”
“Oh, that changes everything! I will rip you apart `til there's nothing left of you!!” Maswindos shrieked furiously.
Romona was stunned. `Wow! Does he really have that good a reputation?' she thought.
“Oh, you're gonna do that?” asked Lathanos, his widening in excitement. “Well, if you think you can…then do it!”
This angered Maswindos. He charged at Lathanos, blind rage filling his eyes. Moving to the side, Lathanos swung his katana, slicing open his cheak. Maswindos halted, his eyes going wide as blood oozed from his cheak. He wiped away the blood and jumped back. “How…how did you d-do that?!”
“Hard work and determination, Demon,” said Lathanos, no emotion present in his voice. He suddenly disappeared.
“What?! Where the fuck did he go?!” demanded Maswindos. Suddenly, Lathanos reappeared above Maswindos and shot down at him, Lathanos's blade pointed downward. Maswindos shot sideways just as Lathanos stabbed the ground, dust kicking up.
“Damn, so close!” said Lathanos. He instantaneously shot after Maswindos and began swinging. Maswindos continued to move back, dodging Lathanos's attacks, but only barely. “Scared yet, Maswindos?!” Lathanos asked excitedly as he kept swinging.
“Not by a long shot, Kid!” Maswindos shouted. He leapt over Lathanos and formed a handsign. Lathanos turned and his eyes went wide. “Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!” Maswindos called out. Suddenly, three copies of him formed out of thin air. “How do you like my Shadow Clones, Boy?!” he grinned, and him and his clones shot at Maswindos. As they neared, he halted and his clones disappeared. They reappeared behind Lathanos and on both sides of him. They each formed a different handsign.
They each shouted out a different technique. “Suiton: Daibakufu no Jutsu!!!” cried Maswindos.
Katon: Karyu Endan!!!” cried Maswindos's clone to Lathanos's left.
Futon: Kami Orashi!!!” cried the clone to Lathanos's right.
Raiton: Jibashi!!!” cried the clone behind Lathanos. Maswindos fired a huge water vortex at Lathanos; the clone to Lathanos's left breathed a huge stream of hot flames at Lathanos; the clone to his right fired a powerful vortex of wind at him, and the clone behind him fired an extremely powerful bolt of blue lightning at him. Lathanos looked to his left and to his right as the four simultaneous techniques got closer and closer. As they came in contact with each other, they spiraled around each other, turning white, and there was an enormous explosion.
As the dust cleared, Lathanos was nowhere to be seen. Maswindos cackled wickedly. “Yes! Yes!! I have killed you, Lathanos!!” He laughed even more. His clones disappeared in a cloud of white smoke.
“Have you now?” asked Lathanos, who was now behind Maswindos.
Maswindos spun around immediately. “What the!? How did you sur-survive?!” he demanded.
“Simple, I dodged your attack. I am a lot faster than you think, Maswindos,” said Lathanos.
Lathanos disappeared again. “Where the hell did he go now?!” shouted Maswindos. Suddenly, a blade was thrust through his back with a geyser of blood following. He slid off the blade and onto the ground with a thud, lifeless.
