[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

I want to tell you a story, a story about a world far beyond your wildest dreams. In this world the children are raised on music, reading, and arts. The people are peaceful in a land away from war, technology, and danger. This world is away from the threat of humans and every child is born with a special power. I want to tell you a story about how a mystical world helped to give one girl hope and faith in herself. My name is Elizabeth Victoriana and this is the Legend of Melodia.
Fifty years ago in a world that can only be reached in a young child's dreams a battle raged between humans and human-like creatures. These “creatures,” as they became known by the humans, were depicted as anything ranging from demons with blazing red eyes and black wings to shape shifters that took forms ranging from a glistening green serpent to a ferocious black wolf. In actuality these “creatures” were more human-like than even the humans that attacked them. Some were viewed with long flowing hair and eyes that ranged in color from a glistening golden to a piercing red. Others had short or medium hair with eyes that could be as blue as the morning sky or as black as midnight. This battle raged on for thirty years, finally ending with the death of the royal family of Melodia. The remaining humans left, the remaining people of Melodia disappeared into the forest and recreated an old village not far from the mansion of the royal family. Six years later noises were reported from the mansion, and upon further investigation the prince was found to be alive.
“Emily, come down to dinner you silly girl!” A voice called from downstairs. The girl sighed sadly as she slipped the pink ribbon bookmark into the leather-bound book. “Coming!” She called back as she shut the book. For a moment she stopped and just ran her fingers of the golden lacy pattern of words on the cover of the book. Oh to be in a world like that. She thought as she closed her eyes. She had always dreamed of it, to have a world of her own, her own wonderland, like Alice from the old fairytales her father always read her as a child. “Emily!” The voice called again. She sighed; only in dreams could she escape to a world like that. “I'm coming!” She screamed back as she set the book on her desk and threw her legs over her bed. She allowed herself to drop off the bed with a small `thump' as her feet hit the floor and slowly walked downstairs.
The rest of the night seemed to drag on as did any regular night in the family. Emily was happy to be able to finally get back upstairs, but when she entered her room she was greeted with a surprise. “My book…it's gone.” She said softly. She blinked again looking at the desk, was she imagining things? She rubbed her eyes and sighed looking at the clock. “Almost ten, I'll look for it in the morning.” She said as she climbed into her bed and buried herself under the black and red cotton comforter. She closed her eyes and rolled onto her right side, her back facing the desk. Slowly she fell asleep to dream about the mysterious world in her books, known only to her as Melodia.
She awoke to a cold chill of air blowing on her face. “What?” She mumbled as she opened her eyes and leaned up. She looked around, why was she laying on the grass and where was her family? “Hello?” She said softly. “Hello.” A voice echoed back and she jumped turning around. There standing with a basket of what looked like plants was a tall boy who appeared to be about sixteen or seventeen. She blinked lightly as she looked at the boy. His clothing was much different it looked like a Japanese kimono that she had seen before but with pants. The pattern was quite lovely, black with golden flowers printed along it. He had short dark brown hair and soft midnight blue eyes. Everything about him seemed gorgeous, but one thing in particular caught Emily's attention. Atop his dark brown hair were two black ears that perked up and twitched every few minutes. “Are those…really?” She said softly as she stood up. She walked over, completely forgetting her confusion at being there and slowly reached up. Slowly she ran her fingers along the fur on the back of the ears and traced her thumb along the inside. The boy squeaked and dropped the basket jerking back quickly; his eyes appeared to be full of fear. She gasped lightly as the boy suddenly backed away into the forest. “Oh, w-wait!” She called before sighing sadly. Great that could have gone better…in fact that could have gone a lot better… She thought sadly before looking around.
“Anyways, where am I?” She whispered to herself. She sighed and looked around, hoping to get a better look but she was greeted with a sword at her throat. She gasped lightly and looked up. “A human.” A cold voice said as the eyes of the sword's owner locked with Emily's. Emily's eyes narrowed. “What are you saying, you're human to, the only one of you that isn't is that…that…freak.” She said pointing to the boy with cat ears that she had seen only minutes ago. She couldn't think of what else to call him, but after saying that she realized how wrong it was. “You disgraceful creature!” The lady snapped pressing the tip of her sword further against the girl's neck. Emily gasped lightly. Jeeze Em, remember this lady has a sword. She mentally snapped at herself, it was stupid to snap at someone with a weapon and she knew it. “Up.” The lady snapped. Slowly the girl stood up, her legs visibly shaking now. “Sintein, her aura.” The lady said looking back at the boy with cat ears. The boy blinked and nodded. He closed his eyes, though he was clearly focusing on Emily. “Clear.” He said softly as he reopened his eyes. “She's pure.” He added. “Hmph.” The lady replied before sheathing her sword.
The lady grabbed Emily's hand, jerking her down some path. The path was lined with yellow weeds and purple flowers that she had never seen before, they looked almost like little baby dragons. Emily looked back; the cat boy had picked his basket up again and slowly followed them, his tail swaying back and forth behind him. His ears twitched and he shivered when he felt the girl's eyes on him. Finally they arrived at an old wooden gate, it didn't appear to be sealed, but it appeared to be quite heavy. She watched as the lady with the sword waved her hand and slowly the gate creaked open. “If you cause any trouble be warned, I will not hesitate to kill you.” Emily heard the lady say. Emily nodded lightly watching in astonishment as the gates opened to what appeared to be a completely different world. “Welcome to Melodia.” She heard the cat-boy, the one called Sintein, whisper softly.
