Arranged Date
-Isao-
I am not a fan of blind dates.
“Why am I doing this?” I asked. Kaz gave me a desperate look.
“The execs want to keep the peace,” he said. “This is just in good
faith.” I didn't like the sound of that. They basically want me to
lie. I sneered at that thought. Kaz looked like he was going to
cry.
“Please!” he pleaded. “Do this for me!” I rolled my eyes. This
again? I puffed up my cheeks.
So here I was at this restaurant in Kyoto. They went all out for
this. And they, I mean the execs. I sat back and wrinkled my nose.
This would be better if it was a blind date.
Only that's not it. I know who my date is. I looked at my phone.
She's late. Not a good look. I wasn't surprised. Maybe I could just
get up and leave? Seemed so tempting. I sighed and shook my
head.
Like they would let me go so easily.

-Mai-
I stood outside the restaurant. I don't one to do this. But they
making me go on this date. I didn't even want to wear this stupid
dress. I puffed up my cheeks and frowned. Might as well get this
over with.
I took a breath and walked inside.
The restaurant was crowded as I predicted. Most of the men inside
were dressed in business suits. None of them looked up. Part of me
thought I was invisible.
My phone buzzed in my purse. I rolled my eyes. Already, I knew who
it was. I pulled out my phone.
“What?” I asked.
“Where are you?” he asked. I forced myself to smile.
“I'm here. Where are you?” I asked.
“Head to the back,” he said. He hung up before I could speak. I
sneered as I looked at my phone. Really? We are really going to do
this? I sighed and forced myself to smile. I headed to the
back.

Meanwhile, Namiko sat near the entrance to the back party hall. She
had her “sources”. The matchmaker's niece spotted Mai walking by
out of the corner of her eye. Now was the time to act. Namiko
pulled out her phone to make a quick text. She smiled as she hit
send. All just in time for the waiter to come back.
“Are you ready to order?” he asked. Namiko turned to him with a
smile on her face.
“Why yes,” she said.

I looked up when I heard footsteps walk up to my table. Mai stood
on the other side with a creepy smile on her face. At least she
looked nice in her long red dress. I noticed it hugged her curves
in the right places. The skirt showed off her legs. The straps hung
onto her shoulders.
“What?” Mai asked. I quickly shook my head.
“Can you stop smiling like that?” I asked. “It's creepy.” Her right
eye started to twitch.
“Shut up,” Mai said through gritted teeth. She dropped the smile
much to my relief as she sat down. I cleared my throat.
“You look nice,” I said. Mai turned her head away, blushing.
“Thanks,” she muttered. I pressed my lips together. Oh boy…
