Break Downs

This can't go on. Snow and Kenta have been talking. The drummer shifted in his seat.

-Five Days Ago-

Kenta couldn't sleep that night. He got up and wandered to the activity room. He sighed as he stared out the window. What was the point anymore? When did this stop being fun? He's known Shinta for years. This band thing was all his idea. For years, Kenta followed his lead. But now…

He looked up when he heard the door open. Hideki slipped into the room. He paused for a moment.

“Oh,” he said. “I didn't know anyone was here.” The young drummer narrowed his eyes.

“Uh… who are you?” Hideki asked. Kenta shrugged.

“Nobody,” he said.

“Ah,” the other drummer said. They stood awkwardly for a moment. Hideki walked over to the vending machine. Kenta watched him.

“How do you do it?” he asked. Hideki looked up.

“Hm?” he asked. Kenta lifted his chin.

“Keep drumming. Playing music. Touring. All of it, man,” he said. Hideki had a curious look on his face.

“I like it, I guess,” he said. “Why?” Kenta sighed. He sat down on the couch.

“I don't know, man,” he said. “I think I'm just tired.” The young drummer tilted his head.

“You drum too?” he asked.

“Yeah,” Kenta said. Hideki held out his hand.

“I'm Hideki,” he said. The other drummer blinked.

“Kenta,” he said. “I'm Kenta.” The older driver bowed his head.

“Oh,” Hideki said. “Really polite, huh?” The other drummer nervously chuckled.

“I guess,” he said.

Kenta looked at Snow. He hesitated. Then the drummer took a breath.

“I want to quit the band,” he said. Snow eyed him. Kenta blinked. Did he understand him?

“I want out,” Kenta said. “I don't want to be in the band anymore. I'm done.” He waited for a moment. The man studied his bandmate's face. Wait… Was he… smiling? Snow lifted his chin.

“Sure,” he said. Kenta blinked.

“Sure? And you serious?” he asked.

“Sure,” Snow said. The drummer sat back, blinking. Did that just happen?

“Wow,” Kenta mouthed. That was easy. Maybe too easy. That just left one thing. Kenta frowned.

“Oh,” he said. “Oh boy…” Oh boy indeed.
