Sato and Muma headed for the steps. Sato stopped momentarily to look back on the demon hunters as they faced off with the phantoms. Muma grabbed his hand suddenly. “Come on,” she commanded. “We have to save your grandpa and stop Kaiban.”

Sato nodded and they headed up the stairs together. The stairs spiraled to the top, growing closer to the tower as they went up. The heavy armor and sword that Sato carried weighed him down, causing him to grow weary as they moved up. Muma was in front of him the whole time. Sato couldn’t help watch her naked butt shake in front of him, but he tried to stay focused. He was here to save his grandpa … and all of Japan.

They finally came to the top of the steps. Sato glanced around and saw his grandpa tied to what would be the top of Tokyo Tower. He took a step forward and called out, “Grandpa!”

Muma grabbed him quickly and indicated to the side. Kaiban emerged from the shadows. He had a cut across his left cheek. The blood dripped down to his chin. He was adjusting his long coat, making sure it stayed securely over his right shoulder. He looked up at Muma and Sato, smiling.

“It’s about time you make it,” Kaiban said, sniggering.

Sato balled his left hand into a fist and raised it before him. “I’m here for my grandpa. Release him!”

Kaiban strode across the room at a gentle pace, stopped next to the tower and facing his back to Grandpa. He held out his left arm in a welcoming motion. “Come on, then,” he said. “If you want to free your grandfather, you’ll have to fight your way through me.”

“With pleasure!” Sato cried as he raced forward, dragging his sword across the ground.

“Sato, wait!” Muma warned.

Sato brought his sword over his head as he approached Kaiban. Kaiban waved his left hand through the air, creating a huge gust of wind that threw Sato off his feet. Sato slid backwards to where Muma remained standing.

“Idiot,” said Muma as she kneeled next to Sato, “I told you to wait.”

Sato placed a firm hand on the floor as he stood. “I have to save my grandpa,” he argued. “There’s no time to wait!”

Muma flicked Sato on the forehead. “Just stay back. I’ll take his attention while you get Gramps down.”

Muma walked forward calmly. She closed her eyes for a moment, breathing deeply, then opened them as she came to a halt. “I’ve waited a long time for this, Kaiban,” she said. “I’ve wanted for so long to put you down myself.”

“Is that so?” Kaiban asked. “Then why is it that you let that boy from the past seal me away?”

“Back then I didn’t have the power to beat you.” Muma clenched both fists. “But I do now.” Her eyes flared with fiery hatred. “You’ll pay for the pain that you put me through. It’s because of you my clan is dead. It’s because of you my mother is dead. And it’s because of you that I could never patch things up with my father like I had wanted.” Tears rolled down her cheeks. “He was all I had left back then! I didn’t want him dead!”

“Revenge was in your heart, dear girl,” Kaiban said coolly. “How was I supposed to know you’d go soft on me? Even now you’re soft, helping that pathetic human.”

“Sato’s the only one to ever care for me after my mother died. He’s given so much to me. I love him, and I’ll do anything for him!”

Sato gulped. What she was saying made him slightly embarrassed.

“Then prove your love for him!” Kaiban exclaimed. A new look had come over him. His eyes went red and his teeth became longer and pointier. His ears grew into a point, sticking out from beneath his long hair. A grey tint came to his hair. It fluttered outward, breaking from the band that tied it back, as energy rose from Kaiban’s feet.

“Here I come!” Muma cried as she raced forward.

Kaiban tossed his left hand heavily through the air, creating an enormous whirlwind between him and Muma. Muma slashed through the whirlwind, dispersing it as she dove at Kaiban. She landed before him and raised her left claw, slicing Kaiban across the face. She quickly went in for another attack, attempting a punch to the gut with her right. Kaiban caught her fast and chucked her into the air. Muma flipped backwards and landed gracefully.

“You’ve got spunk,” Kaiban said, his tone darker. “Try this one!”

Kaiban released a green ball of energy at Muma. She dodged fast. More came at her. She dodged, performing cartwheels, flips, and more of the sort. She tripped over her own feet then and cried out as another green ball came at her.

Sato rushed in and deflected the blast with his sword. He stared at Kaiban. He was breathing slightly heavy, still tired from the trek up the stairs, but he didn’t hesitate. He ran toward Kaiban, bringing his sword high. He slashed fast, but somehow Kaiban managed to block his attacks with his bare hand.

Sato continued to attack in rage. Kaiban gripped the blade of Sato’s sword and brought the young warrior in fast, lifting a knee and powerfully ramming it into Sato’s gut. He staggered backwards as Kaiban rammed him with his palm to his chest. The cut beneath Sato’s chainmail stung. Kaiban raised his left hand and struck Sato across the face. Sato spun through the air and landed on his stomach, blood spewing across the floor from his mouth.

“Pathetic!” Kaiban roared. “You’ll never beat me like that.”

“You sound like you want us to beat you,” Muma said as she raced at Kaiban.

Muma raised a fist and punched at Kaiban. He caught it swiftly and flipped her over his hip, putting hard pressure on her arm as he sat her up. “What I’d like,” he said slowly, “is a decent challenge before I kill you.”

“Then here goes!” Muma cried. She lifted her foot over her head and kicked Kaiban. He released Muma and staggered backward. She quickly got to her feet and spun backwards, kicking Kaiban square in the chest. He staggered back more and tripped over Sato. Muma mounted on top of him and began punching him continuously.

Kaiban caught one of Muma’s fists. He let out a loud roar as he flung her into the air and stood. He became aware quick of Sato rising to his feet and struck him down fast before he could attack. Sato flew into the tower, more blood flying from his mouth as he dropped to the ground.

Muma landed softly and bounded at Kaiban. She glanced passed him at Sato and saw a horrible sight. She dodged Kaiban as he attacked and landed several feet from the tower, her jaw gaping.

Sato looked up and saw Muma looking in his direction in shock. He felt something wet drip onto his head. He leaned forward and twisted his head to look above him. His sword was stationary, stuck through the chest of his grandpa. Sato stood quickly, almost in tears.

“Grandpa,” Sato mouthed. He pulled the sword from his grandpa’s chest and stepped backwards. Tears swelled in his eyes. Sato walked slowly up to Grandpa and cut him down, putting him gently on the ground.

“I can’t believe this,” Sato choked. “Grandpa’s been killed, and by my own blade.”

“Sato, I––” Muma began, but cut off as she felt a large energy behind her.

Kaiban was charging a large ball of energy in his left hand. Muma charged at him fast to stop him. He released the energy and it swept up Muma. She let out a loud cry of pain as it tore at her skin. Sato turned his head far enough to see the event. Muma fell to the ground, a bloody mess.

“No, Muma!” Sato cried, but he didn’t want to leave his grandpa’s side.

Kaiban flicked his hair backwards in triumph. “It’s a shame, Sato. The fight has only just begun, and already you’re the last standing. Your partner’s down, and your grandfather’s dead. What do you do now?”

Sato lowered his head, looking down upon his grandpa. He came to his feet, lifting his sword with him. “You really want to know?” he said. “What I do now”––he turned and eyed Kaiban darkly––“is kick your ass!”

Sato charged at Kaiban. He swung his sword fast, but Kaiban was easily able to dodge. Sato swung again. Kaiban caught the blade and smirked just before driving his knee into Sato’s gut through the chainmail. Kaiban spun fast and smacked Sato across the face with the back of his hand. Sato twirled through the air and hit the ground hard, his sword sliding away from him.

Sato looked around to find his sword and made across the floor for it. Kaiban dropped from the air and planted his foot hard on the hilt, making Sato unable to lift the sword. Sato got to his feet and backed away, holding up his hands in defense.

“Hand-to-hand combat?” Kaiban said, narrowing his eyes.

Sato said nothing. He rushed at Kaiban again. He ducked Kaiban’s attack and rammed him hard with his shoulder, freeing Sato’s sword. Sato snatched the sword up fast and continued at Kaiban. Kaiban raised his left hand and released five red blades of energy. Sato was unable to dodge and cover himself fast enough, and three of the blades drove into his body. He let out a loud cry of pain as he dropped to the floor, holding himself. He was protected mostly by the armor, but the impacts were enough to overcome him.

Kaiban knelt on the floor, smiling at Sato, his left hand flat on the floor in front of him. A long row of spikes shot up from the floor, darting straight for Sato. He lifted his head and saw it coming. Sato rolled quickly to the side to dodge. He got to his feet, still low on the ground, and looked up at Kaiban. Kaiban stood straight now, holding up his left hand, a green ball of energy forming. The ball released at Sato, and he was unable to dodge.

Air released from his lungs. Sato couldn’t make a sound. The plate leggings and jeans beneath tore from him, revealing his bare legs. The chest of the chainmail deteriorated, leaving him bare-chested, the scar clearly revealed. Sato hit the floor, his eyes wide as he stared at the ceiling. He was unable to move. His vision slowly blurred. He felt faint.

Kisuro tapped his feet as he waited for the elevator to reach the top. He was extremely worried after feeling that tremendous trembling. He hoped he wasn’t too late. Finally the elevator stopped on the observation deck. He stepped out and saw Ryomaru fighting against the phantoms on the outside. He didn’t see Sato anywhere.

He looked around and found the stairs going to the top. He quickly raced through the broken glass and toward the stairs; his feet pounded hard on what seemed to be like skeletons. Kisuro jumped two steps at a time as he went up. He couldn’t sense anything up top happening, but felt the battle below continuing.

The stairs were long. He was winded by the time he reached the top. He wheezed as he looked around. Grandpa Kannin lay near the tower in a puddle of blood. Muma was to the right of the stairs, laying prone, a puddle forming beneath her. Finally Kisuro’s eyes fell upon Sato who was on his back looking toward the ceiling, shock across his face, his color completely gone.

Kaiban approached Sato. Kisuro gritted his teeth and raced at him. He let out a loud war cry to let Kaiban know of his presence and sprang into the air. Kaiban looked up, bewildered. Quickly he swept backwards across the floor. Kisuro landed hard on the floor between Sato and Kaiban, his fist in the ground.

“This is unexpected,” Kaiban said. “I didn’t expect another fighter to brave my castle. Tell me, warrior, what is your name?”

Kisuro straightened slightly, licking his bruised knuckle. “I’m Kisuro Nabura,” he replied. A sly smile spread on his face. “You must be that Kaiban I hear so much about.”

“I’m glad my name is carried around. But obviously my doings don’t follow suit. I find it strange that a normal kid would dare to challenge me.”

“Believe me, I wouldn’t if it weren’t for this brat behind me. Ina wished for me to make sure he’s okay, so here I am.”

“Then so be it,” said Kaiban, holding his left hand before him. “Since you have no weapon, we’ll go at it hand-to-hand! Prepare to lose!”

Kisuro rushed forward. He swung his fists and kicked in a wild, unorthodox style, much different from when he faced off with Sato. Kaiban remained stationary, using his single left hand to block all of the oncoming attacks, even two or three at a time. He caught Kisuro’s fist and spun him, giving him a hard kick in the rear. Kisuro stumbled forward and spun around on his heels.

Kaiban glared at Kisuro menacingly. It was his turn to attack. He shot at Kisuro with amazing speed, using just his one arm to attack with. Kisuro mostly kept up with the speed, but a few of the attacks connected.

Kisuro dodged to his left. Kaiban’s hand shot right passed his cheek. Kisuro didn’t have time to react as Kaiban lifted his knee and drove it hard into Kisuro’s gut. Kaiban moved easily behind Kisuro and smacked the boy to the floor, standing over him triumphantly.

Kisuro held his stomach with one hand as he lifted himself with the other. Kaiban looked down at him, surprised. “So you still have some fight in you, huh?” he said.

“More than you know,” Kisuro said.

Kaiban came at Kisuro fast. Kisuro rolled to the left and looked up in time to see debris from the floor fly up at Kaiban as his hand drove into the bones and dirt. Kaiban rushed him again. Kisuro sprang into the air, dodging over Kaiban’s head. Kaiban turned to see as Kisuro shot for Sato’s sword lying on the floor.

Kisuro snatched up the sword, rolling over the floor until he came into a standing position, facing Kaiban with the sword raised. He lifted a hand up and gestured for Kaiban to come at him. Kaiban didn’t hesitate. He shot for Kisuro with his unnatural speed. Kisuro guarded fast as Kaiban tried forcing his claws at him. He gripped the sword and chucked Kisuro into the air.

Kisuro planted his feet against the tall ceiling and rebounded off it. The force added a great boost to his strength, and he used it to come down hard in Kaiban. Kaiban let out a horrible scream of agony as the blade slid across his chest. He staggered backwards and dropped to one knee, holding his chest. He stared at Kisuro in disbelief.

“Not bad for a human, huh?” Kisuro taunted.

“Not bad at all,” said Kaiban as he stood straight. “Unfortunately you lack the ability to use the full power of that sword, which is required to defeat me!”

Kaiban threw his hand through the air. A green shockwave of energy rose from the floor and headed straight for Kisuro. Kisuro was unable to block the attack. His eyes went white as the pain shot through his body. His sword hand went into the air, and he released Sato’s sword from his grip.

“Goodbye, human,” Kaiban said devilishly. “May you rest in agony.”

A gentle hand wrapped around Kisuro’s body and brought him gently to the floor. The clatter of the sword Kaiban expected to hear never came. Kaiban stared above Kisuro at Muma who stood over him. Her eyes were bright red. A red aura engulfed her naked body.

Kaiban became aware of another presence as he heard footsteps to his right. He glanced over and saw that Sato was on his feet once again, surrounded by a blue aura that emanated from his sword. Sato continued forward until he was proper distance from Kaiban.

“This is impossible,” Kaiban growled, wrinkling his nose. “You two should be dead!”

“Not so long as you’re alive,” Muma hissed.

“And not as long as my grandpa’s death is in vain,” Sato said.

Kaiban clenched a fist over the collar of his coat. “So be it,” Kaiban said. He pulled his coat from his body, revealing his slender physique. His right arm was badly charred. It twitched from time to time.

“What’re you doing?” Sato asked.

“No more going easy on you,” Kaiban said.

Muma called fast to Sato, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this!”

“Behold my transformation!” Kaiban cried. “No one outside of the demon realm has ever seen it. Consider yourselves unfortunate.”

Sato’s throat tightened. He gripped the hilt of his sword as hard as he could in anticipation. If this “transformation” of his also gave him more power, they were in big trouble.
