Chapter 1: Krusnik

New Years Eve, 9,999 SE. Year 10,000 of the Solar Empirius was only hours away and fireworks already dotted the sky of Gladius III in the Xinthos System. A young Xinthosian named Zach cursed his luck at drawing guard duty today.

A few off duty soldiers walked past him on their way to the festivities. “See ya later, elf,” one of them called mockingly.

Zach bristled. `Elf' was a nickname given to his race by the humans because of a few similarities to the creatures of human fairy tales, and because `elf' was easier to say than `Xinthosian' to most. It wouldn't seem like too big of a deal, but his people were proud, almost to a fault, of their race. Xinthosians had pointed ears, and lived to be over 350 in Earth years. But for reasons unknown to anyone but his kind, after a Xinthos adolescent reached 22 years of age, their features stayed as they were for 300 or so more years before continuing to age physically once again. Not a single sign of aging occurred in that span of time. Zach's people also had four green rings tattooed on each wrist and ankle at two months old.

Zach himself had a special trait that only occurred in one out of every three trillion Xinthosians: he had wings. Science had shown that every pure Xinthosian had this DNA trait, but couldn't figure out why it triggered so rarely. He had never met another Krusnik, the name given by their ancestors to winged Xinthosians.

His partner, Seth, patted him on the shoulder, “Hey, man, just ignore that prick. He's so shot up on stimpacks he'll likely break his gravity regulator.”

Zach sniggered; the planets inhabited by Xinthosians had eight times the gravity of Earth, the Planet Dominus, or home world, of the Solar Empirius. Thus the weakest Xinthosian citizen was far stronger and faster than the best human athlete. During the 473-year war between the original Earth Directorate and the sectors around it, later named the Conquest of Order, the Xinthosians had held out the longest because the gravity of their solar system had prevented invasions and interfered with particle weapons fire. Until, that is, human scientists `acquired' the gravity regulator from a captured Felinx planet.

“You're right Seth. Humans are so pathetic, present company excepted, of course.”

Seth smiled. He was born on Elibe, a purely human inhabited planet in the Magvel Sector. Elibe was nearly identical to Earth in size, gravity, and planetary climate, making it the Earth Directorate's first target.

“10,000 SE, and about 14,200 Earth AD if the Empirius hadn't come along,” said Zach.

“You sound bitter, I thought you liked the Empirius, Zach.”

“I do Seth, but you have to remember that my race has been persecuted by the humans. I don't hope to ever become more than a Sergeant, and even that rank is aiming high. All I want is to serve the Empirius loyally but yet even after ten millennia animosity remains towards my people.”

Seth sighed, “I know, Zach. But it seems you've been treated well enough. I mean the Captain treats you the way he treats everyone.”

“Captain Leudast doesn't care what anyone is as long as they follow orders and are good soldiers. That makes him somewhat of a prodigy among officers. But my pay is still only two thirds that of even a Felinx,” Zach paused and looked at Seth hesitantly, “Sometimes I sympathize with the rebellion.”

Seth looked stern for a moment, and then realized the weight of Zach's confession. If he told the Empirius' inspectors, Zach would surely be tried and convicted of treason. He smiled, “Hey, don't worry too much Zach. Not many people in our regiment mind what you are. And nobody in our company cares at all. You are the best we have. And I know our squad is very glad you're watching our backs. I… look sharp, the girls are finally off duty.”

Both men stiffened to attention and looked as impressive as possible as the doors to the women's barracks opened. Women walked out in dresses, laughing and talking with their friends and squad mates. The ones that knew Zach and Seth sent them sympathetic looks and waved. Some of them even ran up to kiss Zach. Seth looked mutinous until one turned and kissed him soundly before catching up with her friends.

“Well, there is one advantage you have. The girls all want you. Hell, I heard you get lucky with Sergeant Yuya every so often. I mean, I wish girls asked me to fuck them as much as they ask you,” Seth smiled wide and winked.

And it was true. Zach never got lonely since joining the military at sixteen. He knew twelve girls just in his company that he could have if only he just asked. He wasn't particularly attached to them in any emotional way, nor they he for the most part, but he wasn't ever lonely. He chuckled and said, “Sergeant Yuya never asked. `Fuck me, soldier,' is an order, I believe.”

The other soldier snorted, “Well, that's the kind of order I would have no problem following. And speak of the sexy, shapely devil, here comes the Sergeant now.”

Zach snapped back to attention as Yuya came up. Even though she was in a short black dress, she had on her military dress cap, so the two still had to follow protocol.

“So you drew duty, Zach? Pity, I was hoping to have a good time tonight,” she looked disappointed.

“I'm off duty just before the Solar New Year, Sergeant,” Zach said.

Yuya looked at him severely, but with a small smile, “And just what are you implying by that, Private?”

“Nothing ma'am.”

She took off her hat, “Well then, Zach, why don't you come to my apartment when you're relieved of duty,” she kissed him and then put her hat back on, “Carry on, men.”

“Yes ma'am,” they chorused and she walked off.

Seth started laughing hard as soon as she was out of earshot. “You… you lucky… bastard. I envy you… tonight,” he said between wheezes.

Yuya walked into Gladius III's capital city, Anubis. She wandered towards the enormous park in the center of the city, where the biggest celebration was being held. She made her way through the throng of people gathered there until she was sure nobody was or even could follow her. Once she was sure, she found her way out of the crowd and ducked into an alley.

Yuya turned at random, going left, right, or forward in different patterns until she found herself at a dead end. She walked up to the wall and leaned against it prepared to wait for a while if need be. Luckily for her, she didn't have to wait long.

In a couple of minutes she saw a glimpse of silver a few hundred yards away. Then she saw it again, closer this time. The next second a woman dropped down in front of Yuya. She wore a skimpy looking outfit made of black and silver leather and had dark silver hair with identically colored fox ears poking through it. Waving behind her were two foxtails the same color as her hair and ears. She looked barely older than twenty. Her dark gray eyes had elliptical pupils. A crosshair rotated in the left eye.

“Hello Kasumi,” said Yuya.

“Hello Yuya, were you followed?”

Yuya shook her head, “No, I don't even know where I am. Nobody would have an easy time finding me without one our tracking devices.”

“Good, so is everything going to plan?”

“Yes Kasumi, I just have to take care of something first.”

“That Xinthosian?” asked Kasumi.

Yuya nodded, “Yeah, he deserves a farewell gift.”

Kasumi looked slightly confused, “I thought you were…”

“I am, but every now and then, well, you know. I'm always disappointed when you turn down my offers. But anyway, I know you would like him.”

“Really? But he's a loyalist isn't he? Doesn't that mean he's a threat?”

Yuya sighed, “Yes, he is a loyalist. But at heart all he wants is to belong. He's really a good person and a fine soldier and… I need to get a few more things ready before I go back to my apartment. Can you help me get out of here?”

Kasumi smiled, “Yeah, come with me.”

A few hours later, Zach was walking through Anubis. Some people stared at his uniform, for he hadn't changed. He preferred his uniform to civilian clothes, since he hadn't been one for fifteen years, almost half his life so far. His Gauntlet beeped and a hologram map showed him how to get to Yuya's apartment.

The Gauntlet was a somewhat new device in the Empirius. It was invented 170 years ago but was expensive back then, and was only produced for complete military use less than 100 years ago when new technology made manufacturing the thousands of nano-chips cheaper. The Gauntlet had three discs on it. The first one, on the back of the hand, fired a small laser or created a positron blade for melee combat. The middle one made a light shield and the third disc, nearest the elbow, displayed information. It could detect atmosphere, check life signs, act as a locator, or anything else a soldier might need.

Zach admired the buildings surrounding him. He could never hope to afford an apartment in this part of town. Yuya wouldn't be able to either, if one of her ancestors hadn't been a hero of the Earth Directorate, making her comfortably wealthy. But once he saw the building in which Yuya lived he stared in utter amazement.

It was by far the most grandeur apartment complex in the city. Over 15,000 stories tall, it reached into the upper atmosphere. He strode into the lobby and asked a concierge, whom plainly thought he had no business being within 1,000 feet of the building, what room Sergeant Yuya lived in. The woman told him and pointed to an express elevator. The elevator had to have inertial dampeners attached to it because it traveled at over 600 mph, a fact that made Zach smile, to get to the upper levels quickly.

“Suite 10,” he told the bellboy.

“Ah, so you're Zach. The Sergeant told me to expect you. Suite 10 is the top floor, so have a seat if you care to. It will be about a minute before we get there.”

53 seconds later, Zach knocked on the door to the suite and walked in. He followed a trail of clothes to the bedroom. Yuya was sitting on her bed, in only a black thong, silhouetted by the stars shining through the glass wall.

Taking note of this Zach smirked at his Sergeant's mostly naked form. He reached for the belt of his pants and wasted no time undressing. Yuya looked pleased when she eyed his growing erection with scrutiny. Zach could feel her eyes like hot pin pricks over every inch of him, burning pleasantly. It was hard for him not to be intimidated by her, but over many sessions with her his intimidation grew less and less.

Yuya stood before him; her arms nestled underneath her small but perfect breasts as if she was waiting for something. Zach had seen her look that way before, when she was inspecting the barracks. After a moment her expression grew lustful, and Zach knew he'd passed inspection.

She slowly slipped her thumbs between the black strings of her barely there panties and slid them to the floor. She turned from him and looked over her shoulder with a seductive glance, beckoning to him with her eyes. Zach obeyed her unspoken call, touching the small of her back with his finger tips before wrapping his arms around her unfeasibly small waist. She leaned against him, reveling in the heat he seemed to force through her body, culminating in an intense pleasure crawling through her spine.

Brushing her blond hair aside Zach gently kissed his way from behind Yuya's ear to her pulse point and down to her collar bone, giving intermittent nips at her sensitive skin. Yuya arched her back against his chest with a soft, sighing moan. Seizing the opportunity, Zach slid his hand up the flat of her stomach, keeping his hand flat as he approached her rib cage, to cup one of her full breasts. Weighting it in his hand he continued to trail lazy kisses over her flesh. He took one of her dusty rose nipples between his forefinger and thumb, gently tugging at it and listening as her moans increased in volume.

His other hand ached for some attention; as he slid his free hand from its resting place on Yuya's hip down to find her swollen clit. Gently he pressed her lips apart to find her flower, dripping with nectar. Her hips bucked against his hand, begging for more pressure. Zach sighed into her ear as he increased the pressure of his finger just slightly.

Completely aroused by Zach's skillful ministrations and near to dripping with her passion's fluids she pushed away his hands. Spinning around in his arms, her hand came between them to grasp his fully erect member. Her lips caught his in a crushing kiss. Without breaking their passion filled embrace, Yuya slowly guided him to the edge of the bed where she reversed their position. Pausing a moment longer to savor the taste of his lips she pushed him roughly onto his back. Zach was caught off guard and tumbled onto the soft mattress, blinking.

Yuya was above him, her perfectly round ass pointed toward his face. Her lips glistened with a coating of her essence, which just begged him to have a taste. He could feel her impossibly tiny hands wrapping around his cock. He grunted as he plunged his tongue into her, then again when her tongue flicked his already sensitive head. He paused for a moment to revel in the sensations that washed over his body. Yuya however was not as patient as she wiggled her hips above his face. Zach took the hint and thrust his tongue into her core once again. Again and again he thrust his tongue into her, flicking it to reach the sensitive spot along her channel. Her moans filled the room in a sensual chorus of pure lust as she climaxed, gushing in to Zach's waiting mouth.

Lapping up the rest of Yuya's honey from her fold and within her, Zach became aware of his own imminent crest. Just as he was about to reach the point of no return Yuya pulled away, swinging her legs over his naked body. Zach grunted in annoyance as the black ocean of his own climax fell away. He gave her a pointed look, which she merely returned with a wicked smile. A small flame seemed alight in her hazel eyes. Before Zach could question it she had straddled his hips, his cock aimed straight at her dripping pussy.

In one fluid motion he was engulfed in her heat. Her muscles contracted around him as her body protested the sudden intrusion. His senses seemed lost in the tide of the ever looming dark waters of their coupling. The waves washed over him like flames; licking every inch of his being, reaching him at his very core. Instinct took over as he grabbed her hips, slamming them down and holding her there.

Yuya gasped softly out of surprise when he flipped their bodies over. She was impressed by the fact that he hadn't even seemed to miss a beat. But all thoughts were pushed from her mind as she felt the heat of her own climax come over her. She sensed it in Zach too. She attempted to wait for him, but the urge was too strong. Yuya cried out a broken version of his name as she came yet again. Hearing his name fall from his lover's lips at the pinnacle of her passion sent Zach over the edge and he let himself go inside her, coating her walls with his seed.

Tired and sated in the afterglow, they lay by each other watching particle beams arc across the sky. Zach looked at Yuya and she looked back like he was the only man she had ever made love to. He knew that was untrue. Yuya had a husband stationed on Earth. But he didn't fret over it. After all, he was here, her husband wasn't. But…

“Zach, I need to tell you something. I'm in line for promotion to Lieutenant. If I get it, I'll probably be transferred to a battleship.”

Zach just smiled and said, “Well, I guess I'd better make this night count.”

A week later Zach woke to a surprise inspection. He had two minutes to straighten his cot, get into uniform, and stand at attention at the foot of his bunk. He finished with 10 seconds to spare, a personal best, and stood when he heard the shout, “Officer on deck.”

Zach's hand twitched when he saw Yuya walk in with Lieutenant's tabs on her hat and collar. A young looking woman trailed behind Yuya in an Intron agent's uniform, her hair a dark silver color, as was the fur on the two foxtails playing out behind her and on the fox ears that jutted out of her head. Zach admired the shape of her Felinx body from out of the corner of his eye, not daring to move or let her know he was watching her. Intron was comprised of the best assassins and Special Operations agents in the Empirius. To be completely honest, she intimidated him.

Yuya inspected the rows of soldiers with a former Sergeant's trained eye, before stopping in front of him, “You're out of uniform, Sergeant. Where are your collar tabs?”

A ripple ran through the other soldiers and Zach could feel everyone's eyes on him, “Apologies, Ma'am, I do not seem to have received word of my promotion.”

Yuya placed her Sergeant's tabs and a holo-vid disk into his hands as well as a Corporal's tabs, “Take my old tabs and make sure this doesn't happen again.”

“Yes ma'am.”

“And pick your new Corporal, you've served well in your 15 years of service to the Empirius,” she saluted then made a smart about face, and walked out of the barracks with the silver haired woman in tow. But the Felinx paused at the door for a moment and stared at Zach, her elliptical pupils wide, before hurrying after the Lieutenant.

Everyone stood in shocked silence for a moment. Finally, Seth stepped forward and shook Zach's hand, “15 years, but you finally made Sergeant, and you even skipped Corporal completely.”

Zach laughed, “Speaking of which, here you go, Seth,” and gave him the Corporal's tabs.

Seth smiled broadly and put them on his collar before saluting, “What's your first order, Sergeant?”

Zach took a moment to put his collar tabs on. When he looked up, everyone was still staring at him, “Alright you pack of worthless shit bricks, stop gawking. You all have 30 seconds to finish straightening your bunks. And you'll all be sorry if I find just one wrinkle on anybody's bed sheet.”

Seth turned around with a grin, “You pussy-starved cock-suckers heard the Sergeant, straighten those bunks!”

Zach smirked, he'd had enough Sergeants and Corporals yell at him in that exact tone throughout his 15 years of service. And now he got to yell instead of being on the receiving end. He enjoyed it thoroughly.

30 seconds later he made his own inspection as promised. But as he was halfway down the barracks he heard someone murmur behind his back. He would have disregarded it if he hadn't caught the word `elf' in it. He turned around so fast that the offending mouth couldn't close quickly enough. In the next instant that mouth's owner was on the ground with a positron blade only millimeters away from his neck.

“Private Fredrick, the next time you speak out of turn, I will cut out your tongue and put it in the night's stew. Do I make myself clear?” he said, eyes glinting with malice and the hope he would get the chance to act on his threat.

The soldier's eyes widened in terror and he stammered out, “Crystal clear, Sergeant.”

Zach stood up and glared at the rest, “That goes for everyone in the room. Now assemble for breakfast.”

Everyone scrambled for the door, eager to get away from him. Seth paused at the door and gave a quick grin and salute before leaving with the rest.

Zach sat on his cot and put the holo-vid into the reader in the third disk of his Gauntlet and activated it. A small holographic screen appeared in front of him that contained a recording of Yuya, which said:

Hello Zach. Knowing you, right now Seth is Corporal, you've already threatened everyone with the most extreme punishment they've ever heard of, and you're watching this alone while everyone is in the mess hall. This message is just to say goodbye, and to let you know that I wasn't completely honest with you. I was never going to be transferred to a battleship. I'm going to be stationed on Earth. The Liberty Fighters Organization, a rebel group fighting against the Empirius, has managed to knock off some big shots. So now the brass wants their best soldiers and officers on Earth when they declare war on these rebels. It also means I will be with my husband from now on, and you and I will never be able to fuck again, sorry. I know we weren't in love, but I have to say you are the best lay I've ever had. I guess now I had better explain your promotion. I pulled a lot of strings to have you pushed directly to Sergeant. And I do mean a lot of strings. But since I probably won't see you ever again I figured the promotion would make a good farewell gift. I also got you your piled up leave, and I know you've never taken leave so don't deny it. I want you to use it. Take at least a month off, starting tomorrow. I recommend going to either planet Rausten or Frelia. And before you try to make the excuse, `I can't afford that,' you should know the difference between what a human private makes in 15 years and what you made in 15 years, has been added to your account. It all amounted to §1,594,000,000. Anyway, take a vacation. That's my last order to you. Goodbye Zach.

The hologram blinked out. Zach just sat there. It was true that he never had a vacation since joining. He wondered what he would do on his own. He was a dog of the military, it was his life.

A tiny voice appeared in the back of his mind, But it would be nice to get away. Rausten and Frelia are open to every race. You wouldn't be stuck around only humans. You might even find a girl.

But, said another voice, I don't even know how to be a civilian. I would go crazy.

Stop worrying. Worrying is the only reason you would go crazy. Nobody notices how anyone else acts while they're on vacation. Besides, the sun would do you good.

But what about…

Shut up! You're going to Frelia; it's real nice this time of year. Now get packed.
