2nd Dinner Party
“Honey,” Nikita said as was straightening up his tie in the mirror near the front door. “Moscow Tech Mail Support is holding a dinner party tonight, so you'll have to come along and dress up.” Mai looked at him with no emotion on her face.
“Okay.” Nikita looked up at her surprised.
“Really?” His wife nodded.
“Yeah.” Nikita took a step closer to her sitting on the couch.
“Are you sure? It's going to be very boring. It's just going to Stefan, my boss, and the rest of the boys in my company.” Mai shrugged at him.
“Sure.” Nikita raised an eyebrow at her.
“Are you sure?”
“Look if you don't want me to go, say so.”
“I'm not saying that; I just saying it's your choice.”
“Fine. I'll go.” Nikita nodded at her statement.
“Okay. Wear something nice, we have to be at Zhaov's house at seven.”
“Got ya!” Nikita looked at her surprised.
“Since when have you been learning Russian?” he asked. Mai grinned at him innocently.
“If you have noticed, since we first came home,” she said in sassy way. She playfully tapped him on the tip of his nose. Nikita looked on in nervous fear. His wife gave him a cute little smile.
“I'll go get ready,” she said in Japanese this time. Nikita's eyes widened in shock as she walked up the stairs to their bedroom. Fear began to invade his made like the Red Communist Party. “Oh shit!” he thought. “Mai now knows Russian. That means she'll be able to know what I am saying to my friends now.” Nikita hung his head and sighed. “Oh this is bad. Really bad. I'm screwed now,” he thought. Well, maybe it won't be that bad. They could talk to each other much easier now. No more botching up the Japanese language trying to find the right words to use. They could now just talk normally. But then, she would be to eavesdrop on him talking on the phone and to his friends. A sacrifice… it seems so close…
“How do I look?” a voice brought him back to reality. The Russian man looked up to see his wife standing before him, modeling off a black, red, and gold kimono. She twirled around once.
“Not too much?” Mai asked. Her husband held up his hand as he shook his head.
“No, no!” he said. “It's fine.” Mai grinned at him.
“Great, let's go!” she said. Then, she bounced right out the front door.
“Hey, no use getting excited over…” her husband began to say. But, Mai had slammed the door on her way out.
“It.” he finished up as if talking to him in the first place. Nikita sighed and put up his hands in defeat. It was all a draw. He sealed his own fate when he seduced her at the bar in Tokyo. Now, he was stuck with the bill. Oh well, might as well make it work for all it was worth—whatever the price. Nikita hurried out the door after his wife.
On the whole drive there, Mai kept asking him questions about his co-workers.
“Are they nice?”
“I guess…”
“What do you mean, `you guess'?” Nikita shrugged as they drove into the city.
“Just, I guess.”
“Do you hang out with them often?”
“No.”
“No one?”
“Just Stefan.” Mai's face dropped at that revelation.
“Oh.” Nikita noticed her tone.
“What? Why do you say it like that?” She gave him a sharp look.
“You know what I think about him!” Nikita pouted at her.
“Aw, why do you hate my friends so much?”
“They are pigs!”
“They are *cool* pigs.” Mai snorted.
“Annoying pigs is more like it,” she mumbled under her breath. Nikita pretended not to hear her as they drove on to the Moscow Tech Mail Support building.
The couple pulled up into the parking lot twenty minutes early. Mai looked out the window at the tall, thin snow white building.
“Hm, it's not as big as I thought it would be,” she mumbled. Nikita didn't turn around.
“Look, if you're going to be nip-picky about my job, I'll leave you in this car all night; do you hear me?” he asked. Mai stuck out her tongue at him.
“I'm just saying,” she said back. “Besides, you can't lock me in the car. I'm an adult; I can come and go as I please!” Nikita nodded a point. She had a good point, but he refused to admit that.
“Whatever, just get out so we can get this over with,” her husband said.
“Gladly,” Mai replied. She opened the car door and stepped out. Nikita snarled and pulled the key out of the ignition. This was going to be a long night. He stepped out of the car and joined his wife. Nikita walked Mai into the MTMS building. Yuri and his wife, Alix, and Minty were already there and waiting in the lobby. Nikita looked at the trio nervously. “Oh crap, Yuri is with his wife and mistress!” he thought. “What if she finds out tonight? What if she already knows? This won't end well.” Yuri stepped forward with a grin on his face.
“Nikita, my boy!” he announced with big, open arms. “So go to see you again!” He hugged his employee tightly. Nikita instantly felt uncomfortable and awkward at the same time.
“You just saw me earlier today, boss,” he pointed out.
“Don't call me `boss!'” Yuri insisted. “Call me `Yuri' tonight!”
“Okay… Yuri…” Nikita said as he tried to breathe through the tight grip. His boss looked over his shoulder. Mai stood there watching.
“Oh, and who is this lovely young lady?” he asked.
“I'm his wife, Mai,” Mai answered with proper grace. She bowed likewise. Yuri gave her a hungry little smile.
“Polite with Asian manners,” he said in a matching tone. “I like that.” Nikita froze at those words. He knew how much of a pervert his boss was. They hadn't even gotten to where the dinner was to be held and he was already lusting after his employee's new wife. This was not good. Not good at all. Quick, break up the situation before Yuri goes any further with any sick plans. Already taken care of.
The men looked up when they heard someone clearing their throat at them. Everyone looked up to see Alix tapping her foot in an impatient way. Yuri slowly returned to being a fake gentleman.
“Oh,” he said unhappily. “This is my Alix and my secretary, Minty.”
“Hello,” Alix said.
“Hey,” Minty spoke with a wave. Yuri let go of his employee.
“So,” he spoke up. “Everyone is down the hall in the conference room. Follow me if you will.” Then, the man walked down the hall. Alix, Minty, Nikita, and Mai all followed behind. They all came to the door and Alix opened the door. The others walked in as he held it open. Yuri grinned to himself as her stared at Mai's ass once she walked into the room. “I would love to have me some of that with Minty's!” he thought like a horny little dog. He grinned to himself in a wicked way as he shut the door behind them.
The rest of company sat at the table waiting. Yuri stepped forward and clapped his hands.
“Good!” he announced. “We're all here now! Let the festivities begin!” The rest of the company cheered with weak enthusiasm. Nikita looked around the room. He spotted Stefan on the right side of the table near the window looking bored. A smile came to the other man's face. “Finally!” he thought. “Something good out of this night!” But before he could walk over to his friend, Yuri stood right in his path.
“Go on,” he said. “Make yourselves at home. Take a seat.” Nikita smiled at that one. “I was gonna!” he thought. Then, the men and women took their places at spots at the table. Only, the self-seating arrangement went rather odd. Mai sat with Yuri and Alix, closer to the middle, while Nikita sat with Minty and Stefan. Neither man was completely happy with who was sitting on their right. “This would be so much better if Minty was sitting with me and Mai instead of Lixi,” Yuri complained in his head as he watched his secretary with his employees. Nikita looked over at his wife and boss. “Oh this is not good,” he thought. “I get stuck with my boss' whore and my wife is sitting with the sleaze. I just hope she doesn't kill him before the night's over.” When both men caught each other's eyes, they quickly looked away. The awkwardness slowly crawled on with the hours. The conversations weren't much better either.
“So Mai, where are you from?”
“Japan.”
“Oooo! That's really far! Isn't Yuri.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“Actually, I was born in Taiwan.”
“Really now?”
“Uh-huh. I was considered to be a happy little second honeymoon accident.” Alix giggled.
“Oh, what an interesting story!” Yuri looked at Mai in an intrigued way.
“That must have been one hell of a happy accident!” Alix gave him a disgusted look.
“Don't be so tacky, Yuri!”
“But it's true dear!” Alix glared at him still.
“Look at him! He's practically fucking her in his mind!”
“No use getting upset about it, Nikita.”
“I know. But Yuri is a disgusting perv.”
“Don't say that about him!” Both boys looked at Minty. Okay was this chick really crazy, really stupid, or really blind? It had to be the second option because she was sleeping with Yuri himself. But how to point this out to her without coming off as rude? That one is a toughy. Stefan placed his arm on the table.
“Yes he is!” Minty began to look hurt.
“Why are you guys so mean to him?”
“Sweetheart, are you blind? Our boss is too much of a playboy. He doesn't like to be saddled down to one woman for the rest of his life. In fact, what the hell do you see in him, anyway?” Minty looked down at her nearly empty plate.
“Well… he's handsome, nice, funny smart, brilliant, charming, and a good man.” Stefan tried not to laugh and snort at the same time. Nikita kicked him in the shin under the table.
“Ow!” His friend gave him a sharp glare.
“That's enough, Stefan!” His friend gave him a sharp look of hate.
“Asshole!” Nikita glared at him still. Then, he looked at Minty still.
“That's nice and all, but don't you think that there are better and *single* men out there waiting for you to give them a second look? Maybe then, the women at the office here won't talk so badly about you.” The secretary quickly shook her head.
“No. Yuri is the only one that I want. He is my dream prince.” Nikita and Stefan looked at each other in disgust. Okay, that answered that question they had wondered about for months. Minty was just that stupid to believe that Yuri was really her handsome prince on a white horse coming to rescue her from her boring life as a secretary. Now, Nikita was stuck with her while his boss flirted with Mai. So yeah, this was a long and uncomfortable night. At least, they had food to eat until their plates were empty and the boring speeches to get out of awkward situations if needed. Other than that… yeah. Fun night to be had by all!
