Cry On Me
Mai sat on the bed looking woeful. It had been five days now. Nikita came home of Friday looking worn out. He hasn't eaten or slept since.
“Baby, what's wrong?” she asked. Her husband didn't answer. He just waved her off and walked into his room. Mai followed behind.
It's now Wednesday. Nothing has changed. Mai doesn't know what to do. He won't talk to her. He doesn't even get out of bed for work. Mai had to call in and tell Yuri that something was wrong. Mai shook her head in the dark. The rain pouring outside didn't help her nerves either.
I don't want him like this, she thought. He's not fun when he's depressed. Mai looked over at him in their bed. Nikita looked to be asleep at the moment. The woman reached out and stroked his cheek. I wish there was something I could do, she thought in her own despair. Nikita-kun…
“Mai?” she heard a soft whisper. The wife looked up startled. A pair of deep blue eyes stared back at her in the dark. The Japanese woman blinked at him.
“Nikita-kun?” she asked. “What are you doing up?”
“Can't sleep,” he murmured.
“Aww,” Mai cooed. Her husband kept his eyes on her. She wouldn't understand. Mai gave him another concerned look.
“Want to tell me what's wrong?” she asked. Nikita shook his head.
“No?” his wife asked. He lowered his shoulders.
“It's too hard to explain,” he said.
“Try me,” his wife whispered. “That's what I am here for.” Nikita turned his face away from her. Mai breathed out heavily.
“How do you expect me to help you?” she asked.
“I don't,” he whispered.
“But, I need you!” Mai insisted.
“No, you don't.”
“Yes, I do! I am your wife!”
Nikita frowned at the ceiling. “You just wouldn't understand this one thing.”
“Try me!” Mai paused for a long moment. This is not helping us. I need to approach this from a different angle, she thought. The woman closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. She clenched her fists and opened her eyes.
“I just want to help you,” Mai said in a low voice. “Please.” Nikita shook his head.
“I'm sorry,” he whispered.
“For what?” his wife asked.
“You just can't help me on this one,” the man told her. “You just can't.” Mai didn't budge.
“But I have to,” she insisted. “I'm your wife. There must be something I can do!” Nikita turned back to her with skeptical eyes.
“How?” he asked. Mai drew her lips closed. She hadn't planned that far ahead. The wife had to think of something fast to help them both.
“Well…” she said. The woman looked down at her body. Bits and pieces tried to form sparks in her brain.
“Well…” she said again. Then she grabbed her thin, white nightgown and pulled it over her head. Nikita shook his head.
“Mai, please,” he said. “I'm not in the mood.”
“I know,” she said. She threw her gown down to the floor. The woman lied down next to her husband.
“What are you doing?” her husband asked. Mai slipped her arms around his strong, muscled body. Her face came within inches of his own.
“Just hold me,” she whispered. Nikita blinked at her.
“What?” he asked.
“Just hold me.”
“Why?”
Mai leaned her head on his chest. “Because, this is the best I can do right now.”
“Mai…”
His wife put her finger to his lips. “Shhh.”
“Mai…”
The Japanese woman stared deep into his eyes. “Don't talk. Just hold me.” Nikita closed his mouth. His arms reluctantly held her by the waist. Her bare breasts pressed up against his chest. Her skin felt so soft and warm. His eyes trailed down to her to her cleavage.
“Now what?” he asked.
“Try to sleep,” Mai whispered.
“But…” her husband whispered back.
“Sleep,” his wife pushed. “Close your eyes and go to sleep.” Nikita said no more after that. He rested his chin atop of Mai's head and slowly closed his eyes.
“That's it,” she whispered. “Just go to sleep.” Mai began to do the same thing as well. This wasn't much, but it would have to do for now.
