Rapture
Depressed people don't think straight. That haze blocks clear
thinking. They do things they regret. Nina was about to make a bad
decision.
Vince was the one to make the first move. More like he came to her.
She was alone at the time. He had just been assaulted. But Nina
didn't know that.
So how did they get here? Well…
Nina tilted her head. What was with this guy? They kept running
into each other. Not on purpose though. It would just happen. Nina
couldn't piece together why.
“Who are you?” she asked. Vince looked up.
“What?” he asked. She shook her head. The PI shrugged.
“No one,” he said.
“What?” Nina asked.
“I am no one,” Vince said.
“Heh,” she said. She felt like nobody too. Her friends tried to
convince her otherwise. Some days it worked. Others not so much.
Right now…
Nina shook her head. Two nobodies together. How… Strange? Odd?
Something else?
She rubbed her forehead.
“Kiss me.”
Vince lifted his head. “What?”
She did not know what she was thinking. Her mind went blank. The
woman leaned in and kissed him on the lips on the couch. It just
happened. Vince didn't push her off. The man just sat there. He
might not have known what to do.
That kiss didn't last more than ten seconds. Nina finally pulled
away. She sat there dazed. Vince blinked.
“Uh…” he said. Nina stared at him. She pressed her lips
together.
“Kiss me again.”
“Nina…”
“Please!”
He kissed her this time. She just took it. However, that was for a
short time. Nina threw her arms around his neck. He goes stiff.
What was this? It almost felt taboo. They shouldn't be doing this.
But why weren't they stopping?
It became a game. Who was going to make the next move? Who was
going to make it stop? Vince should do something, anything. He
grabbed her by the arms. Nina stared at him. He shook his head.
“No?” Nina asked.
“I'm sorry… I… I just can't.”
“What? Is it me?”
“No, no.” Vince took a breath. “Last night…” It didn't bear
repeating. He looked Nina in the eye.
“What?” she asked. They weren't that close. She closed herself off
from everyone. She never talked about herself. The woman would just
shut down. And now he was about to confess something horrible to
her. This would have been a good time to step. But he kept
going.
“Last night… I… I was assaulted.”
“Assaulted?”
Vince replayed the night in his head. Cook showed no mercy. The
detective wanted to vomit at his touch. His tongue made his stomach
turn. Vince wasn't allowed to scream. Cook stuffed his boxers into
his mouth. He didn't use lube either. Vince couldn't block out the
pain.
Nina pulled him into her arms.
“What are you going?” he asked.
“Shhh. Shhh,” she whispered. “It's okay. It's okay.” Vince wanted
to say something. His head rested against her breasts. Nina started
to hum. The detective drew his mouth closed.
“Mmm.” This felt nice. He closed his eyes.
Meanwhile, Nina doesn't know how to deal with this. She shouldn't
be doing this. Even she doesn't know why she's doing this. Things
have toned down, but this is the same game. Nina moved Vince to
face her. She leaned in and kissed him again on the lips. Vince
kissed her back in a haze. This certainly can't go wrong,
right?
